The Mayflower Village in Southampton

Lovely evening for my work leaving party. Made booking in advance. We were very well looked after. Great food and service. Took advantage of happy hour 2:1 cocktails. Loved the games room. Played shuffleboard, table tennis and darts . It was just perfect Thank you 🤩

My son had his wedding reception here on the 21st of September's, everything was clean tidy, stuff for amazing. Gary was absolutely amazing made sure everything went smoothly. He also made sure my grandson was ok, he's disabilities. Gary and his staff for understanding. 100% recommend the Mayflower Village

Lovely food at a reasonable price. Every member of staff had a smile. Our first time there, will make it regular when we go to the Mayflower Theatre.

Good location for live entertainment

The mayflower villiage has been my haunt for many years as I am an actor performing on musical theatre tours around the country. Everytime i return to the pub the owners are so caring and attentive- as are all of their employees who work there. They have hosted the most amazing evenings for all of our cast and crew in the musicals which play at the Mayflower Theatre next door and I have always felt at home here. This is a unique pub which welcomes people of all different backgrounds, creed, colours and diversities. I have always felt safe in this place and the food is top-notch and fast and efficient service as are the lovely pale ales, and IPAs which I’m accustomed to amongst there plethora or alcohol they offer. If you’re looking for a pre-show meal & drink or just a relaxing Friday night chill or a vibrant Saturday evening with your friends I would look no further and make this a spot on your visit to Southampton as a as local visitor or a alike. We chose to have our wedding reception in the lovely basement bar underneath The Mayflower Village. We had such a fabulous time and are so glad that we chose to celebrate here. The staff were phenomenal. The food was gorgeous and the atmosphere could not have been better. All of our guests had a great time and many complimented the venue. I would definitely hire this space again for an event in the future, and would recommend it to anybody looking for a good venue to celebrate an occasion in Southampton. A big thank you to The Mayflower Village for making our special day perfect, and an extra thank you to Gary for hosting, Chelsea and Claire for organising, and Steven for his slippers, which were very much needed by the end of the night.

They had run out of Dough Unbelievable but every cloud has a Silver lining We found a lovely family run pizza place who make their own Dough 5 mins away Piccolo Mondo

A bit rushed. So we arrived at 5pm and were shown to our table. We were told to order at the bar. We were quite thirsty so decided to get some drinks whilst looking over the menu. Within about 5 minutes the manager/owner came over and told us to order food. We placed our order and it came fairly quickly. Food was ok, nothing special. We had ordered sharing bits and the waiter came and cleared the plates whilst I was still eating. We then felt a bit rushed to leave. Not the worse place I’ve been to but there are many nicer places over the road for a pre theatre meal. Probably won’t go there again.

Myself and my mum visited last night with the hope of having dinner before going to the theatre next door. We arrived to find that you were only able to accommodate drinks, we were disappointed but decided to stay for drinks anyway. I was served by the lovely Kieran (sorry if spelt wrong) who went above an beyond to not only help us get food when fully booked but spent a good deal of time throughout the 3 hours we were there bringing chairs outside for people as the pub filled. He never once stopped smiling. We were so grateful to him for our 3 small plates from the menu all of which were delicious and very reasonably priced. It was our first visit to this pub and I would definitely return when in the area. Very welcoming staff with a great variety of food and drinks at great prices.

Personal opinion, but I don't like the fact they play the music of the artist while your having a drink before you see them live....

Walked into an empty pub, had to wait at the bar for staff to finish up their weekend plans conversation before being able to order my food. Once I got my food I burned myself accepting the boiling hot plate from the server, without a warning, until after burning me. The nachos were very basic, just some meet and nachos with sauce, no peppers, sour cream, or salsa at all. Disappointed by this pub.

Took an age at the bar, 2 x bar staff taking food and drunk orders. Plus a few coffee's. 🤦‍♂️ 15 mins to get a pint. 🤷‍♂️

Had a fantastic meal before going to the theatre

We ate in here before we went to The Mayflower Theatre to see Miriam Margoyles, I had some light bites of chicken pieces and a very nice garlic dip and my boyfriend had a very tasty burger. Service was really good, it was busy but I suppose it always is being right next to the Theatre but we didn't have to wait too long, I guess they are very used to pre theatre food bites. The owners looked very hands on and were checking on their staff which was really nice to see which led to a great atmosphere.

Came for lunch to find out they weren't doing food. Ended up at Subway

The restaurant was very nice and the atmosphere was good however, ordered the gravy burger and was disappointed to find that the burger was gravyless! The smallest amount of gravy. So room for improvement

Perfect pub! We came here as we needed a place to eat before watching SIX the musical and as soon as we walked in we got a homey atmosphere with some outstanding food. Jokes were made here and there from our waiters Steve and Gary witch is something you don’t see enough. The good food names were cracking like “stick a flake in me I’m done”. Food was the perfect amount. I think the waiters made this the best tho. 100% recommend for everyone.

Steve & Gary were very welcoming and set a fantastic atmosphere. Really great place to eat, drink and socialise before or after a show. Definitely will come again!

We hadn’t booked, but got a nice table. The food and service were excellent. I Will certainly recommend to friends.

We visited today 20 th July and I’m in a wheelchair I was greeted warmly and staff was very polite and friendly food was superb and Steve and Kieran were so nice x thanks we will be back x

Parked our bikes outside on a visit to the theatre. Got speaking to a lovely gent (possible manager) who was really helpful. Found all the staff friendly and went that extra mile. Although they were busy service was very fast and we waited only seconds to get served. They poured a very good Guinness which went down a treat. The atmosphere was very good helped by the friendliness of the staff. The toilets were down a small flight of stairs but were very clean. Well worth a visit. Next time we're in Southampton we will definitely return and try their food.

We were late in our b&b and just in time for a dinner here. We had a marvellous pizza and stayed all evening here with a few drinks, wifi and the football games! People were friendly and helpful! Very nice and relaxed place to be!!!

Bit pricey but OK very busy with pre theatre crowd. Staff looked rushed off their feet but still happy

Stopped in here for lunch before a show at the theatre. Got a table without a reservation, and was seated immediately, (midday, saturday). All the staff were excellent, and the food was amazing. Pricing seemed reasonable given the area. Would definitely recommend

Some of the best food I have had in a while! Very generous portion sizes, does not seem like you are having pub food it is that delicious and very well presented! 😁 amazing waiters as well! 😁

Booked my family for a meal before going to the theatre for an evening performance. Table was reserved, ready and waiting for us. The food was excellent and some of the dishes have great names 😉👍 they have great staff, and it is very clean & modern. We will return again in the future 🌟

Frequent here quite a lot, normally for drinks. Booked dinner before a show. For gastro pub prices, we were shocked by what we received. Portions were shockingly small and the food was bland. However, the manager was appalling. I asked to complain at the bar about the food and they said they would send the manager over. He came over and his introduction was, 'they said you wanted to speak to me'. I stated I wanted to complain about the food, explaining that the portions were very small. For example, an £8 calamari starter with 8 small pieces. Gary the manager abruptly explained that's the portion size. After back and forth I pointed out that I didn't understand why he was being rude. In the end he sighed and asked what I wanted, I did ask that I wasn't sure, what can he do? In the end he took away two starters and a main and we patiently waited for them to be remade. Later one of the bar staff came over with cash for a refund. I explained I didn't realise we were receiving a refund, he just took the plates away? When asked if I could speak to the manager as the bar staff wasn't sure what was going on they replied he probably won't come back out. Safe to say, we didn't see him again and left after our drinks. It appeared the manager had no customer service experience and should not be in hospitality.

Great location and good atmosphere. Come here frequently for drinks. However, worse experience we've ever had in a pub this evening. Food was subpar for the money paid. I asked to make a complaint and Gary came over. Instantly obstructive and quite frankly rude. Blamed the bosses and company. He went away, then one of the bar staff came over and provided a cash refund. This wasn't discussed, I assumed we were getting food remade. I asked the waiter what was happening and he said he would ask the manager but he might not come back over. We took the refund and waited, no one else came over. Absolutely awful.

I booked a table for pre theatre food and drinks for a group of 10. The hosts were amazing and very helpful. The food was really good. I had a burger which was delicious and we had a great time before we went to see Wicked next door. I will definitely come back again next time we are down for a show!

Came in here before seeing Wicked last Thursday. The owner is hilarious, always nice to me and my friends who is in a wheelchair. Only thing that lets it down is it a bit pricey.

i came to the mayflower village before we attended a show at the mayflower theatre, i have to absolutely commend all your staff who were working, especially Steve and chelsea, nothing was too much trouble for them, helping out with little things that i asked and even things I didn’t, you should be very proud to have these people on your team, as they are an absolute credit to your workforce, will definitely be telling everyone, and will certainly be back

Nice pub right next to the theatre. OK prices, food was decent. Lots of drink choices. Gets you in the mood for your theatre trip.

Although didn't look overly busy, was made to feel unwelcome until we said we just wanted drinks

Had our football end of season do here, we hired out the basement and it was great. Food was excellent and the staff couldn't help enough. Cassius was our bartender for the evening and was so helpful. Will recommend the Mayflower village to everyone I know.

I love this pub! Came down whilst waiting to go into Bonnie and Clyde and was immediately greeted by the most amazing man! The food is incredible and the location next to the theatre is very ideal! I am going to return every time I see a show! EVERY time!

Beautiful place, excellent for customers who are dye to watch a show in the Mayflower Theatre as it is only next door! Staff dress up for The Rocky Horror Pictures Show which created such a fun atmosphere!!

Came here this evening (20/2) before watching a show next door. It was fully booked at 5:30ish and super busy but they still kindly fit us in! We shared pizzas and chips which was tasty (goofy movie cheese pull!) And the staff were so lovely and attentive. Will be back for sure - thank you!

Great place for a drink before the theatre

We stopped and had food here on 18/02/24 on our way to the theatre, we were shown to our table and told how to order food , when our food arrived we were quite surprised at how small the portions were for the prices , when a senior member of staff walked past our table and noticed my husband had finished his food he said ‘wow someone was hungry , you must have inhaled that food because you’ve eaten it so quick ‘ , I am a very slow eater compared to my husband , we were really not happy with the way he spoke to us , my husband was mortified and embarrassed by this man , I work in customer service and I would never do that to one of my customers.

Went with friends before a show. Pre-booked a table for lunch. Have to order at the bar. There were massive queues and place was heaving. Music was pumping and with amount of people and music we couldn't hear each other across the table. When food arrived. I and friend had the bun less chicken it was so dry it just shredded when tried to cut it. Another friend had halloumi burger which she thought ok. And our other friend had chicken strips which she liked. People next to us had pizza which looked raw and they left most of them. Returned after show for a quick drink before heading home. Waited ages at the bar while everyone around me was served. When bartender Steve asked who was next and I said that would be me, he then complained to me about having an attitude for speaking up and that he would serve everyone. Quite happy to wait my turn, but when the person beside me has been served, replaced and new person served and another person served. I have fairly waited. As an ex bartender myself there is a tried and tested method for ensuring everyone is served in order. Guess, Steve has yet to figure this out as well as good customer service. Overall place is adequate at best for something to eat and to grab a drink. There's a reason why I was able to book a table 2 weeks before a show when everywhere nearby was sold out. We won't be rushing to go back.

This is a great place to drop into before or after going to the theatre. The atmosphere is brilliant and welcoming.

Booked the downstairs room for a private party at a very reasonable rate. Very good space. Service was friendly and good. A very good experience.

Visited, due to reading the reviews, on a trip to the nearby theatre. It didn't disappoint. Very friendly person centered staff who genuinely care about their customers. Good menu and nice range of drinks. Helpful staff who advised on good drinks for my Dry January (non) tipple. Tasty food served in the correct time frame. Good tongue in cheek banter with the staff too. I would recommend and will return. Many thanks to all who recommended it and thanks also to the staff who work at The Mayflower Village for going the extra mile for their punters.

Lovely food and great service. Ladies toilets let the place down, desperately in need of a refurb. Try to avoid the left hand cubicle as the seat keeps falling down. Have to hold it up with one hand and get your pants down with the other 🤣

Visited for a Xmas eve meal before a show. Family of 6, 3 adults 3 teens. Greeted on arrival and shown to our table, informed that orders taken at the bar, which was fine but proceeded to tell the children it’s like the old days and no apps allowed, possibly humorous but came across as quite condescending and our daughter questioned why he presumed she couldn’t use a standard menu. Went to order and told one of our choices wasn’t in stock, so picked another. Not a big deal but wasn’t a polite and friendly apology, was just a blunt, we don’t have that. The bar tender wasn’t particularly friendly anyway barely made eye contact and very much felt like a chore taking our order, bar was quiet so he was not rushed and just made us feel really unwelcome. The chicken burger, chin dribbler and the quorn burger were all enjoyed although chip portions were quite small for the cost. Informed by our server my bacon and Brie pizza had been burned but another was on its way, when it arrived it looked a little undercooked and had very little bacon, it wasn’t particularly nice, was very dry and minimal sauce which was a shame as I’d heard pizza was really good here and at £14 I expected something special. Left 3/4 of it as it really wasn’t great. Server did ask to box it up and I said no thanks. Didn’t ask why though. My youngest daughter ordered chicken strips and chips and the chicken was pretty over cooked, to the point she struggled to get a knife through it, again a shame because it sounded nice on the menu but was burnt. At the end of the meal, our table was promptly cleared and we were browsing the deserts, we were informed there were none being served so don’t bother( exact words), they were short staffed, Christmas staffing has been a nightmare and they just can’t manage deserts as one of the team was about to go home too. While I appreciate the situation, I don’t really feel like staff issues should be the concern of guests, maybe even more so on a special evening. Would also like to have been informed before the start of the meal that there was no desert menu as we would have likely have gone somewhere else, maybe just let people know when they come in what’s not in stock and what’s not on the menu, would save any disappointment and give people the choice. All in all, promised a lot but delivered very little and isn’t a place we would visit again in the future, a shame because it’s so close to the theatre.

Pretty poor response to a group of guys just wanting a drink. The guy in charge was pedantic and non responsive. I would not recommend this this place. Funnily enough my wife got a terse response on the phone when trying to book a table for 4 ladies in their 50s.

The restaurant is not cheap, but it is good value.

Went in for pre show drinks. It was busy, but we were ushered in by the doorman and shown to the mezzanine seats. The man bar staff were friendly and attentive.

Food is delicious. Drinks too. I was going to see David Bowie and somebody left me a note. It made my day.

Very convenient for the theatre but you need to book in advance. Staff were lovely but the meal was mediocre (not bad but not great). I would go again though if going to the theatre as its so convenient and I liked tha atmosphere and staff.

Always an enjoyable experience. This sat 11th November especially. The food is good, but its the atmosphere created that makes it so good. Love that the kitchen staff get a mention as well.

We booked a table for seven for lunch before we went to see The Full Monty, we all had great meals, lovely cocktails, great atmosphere, staff very friendly and even a bit of entertainment 🤣🤣. Only downside was that we couldn't get in after show for drinks and food as they were full, our error should have booked another table, oh well tesco express for meal deal then before train home.

I'm amazed there wasn't any dark beer here ie Best bitter etc, when I asked, she said do you mean Newcastle Brown, I said something darker than your 20 larger on offer, not even bottles. However nice place for private party

Fabulous lunch in here today. My first visit. Couldn't fault a thing. Me and my granddaughter had such a good meal she couldn't manage a dessert, and that's a rarity!

Went in pre theatre hosts were fantastic great banter fantastic atmosphere staff friendly welcoming a must to go to if in Southampton absolute 5 star even tho we didn't book still they let us have food brilliant

We stoppped here on 25 August 2023 while en route to Southampton Port. There is paid street parking a few metres from the entrance. There are different sections in the restaurant to choose to sit. Great selection of beers. Pizza was pretty good and received them quite quickly. A good choice to visit if you undecided where to eat or pop in for a quick drink.

We hired (part of?) the basement bar for a stag do (we made the booking months in advance). The space generally was great, the games and food were brilliant. The atmosphere was excellent, until 2 gentlemen outside of our party were seated at a table in the basement with us. For some reason, their TV was put on full volume, which really clashed with the music that was playing and ruined the vibe a little. I thought, when booking, that we had reserved the whole space it as a private function. It wasn't made clear that we would be sharing the space. And having both the music and TV playing loudly seemed really weird. I asked a member of staff about this, she agreed it wasn't ideal and offered to fix it. Sadly at this point, another member of staff turned off the music completely! Kind of killed the vibe for a stag do. Instead we had to listen to some random sports on a TV extremely loudly until I went up and asked again for someone to fix. In the end I had to help another member of staff get the music playing in the basement bar again. They were not able to turn down the volume on the TV for some reason, so again we had both audio sources blasting for the last hour or so. Really weird. I think it would have been nice to have some communication ahead of the event that we would not have the whole space to ourselves, just to set expectations. But as above, playin TVs and music at the same time is a bit of a conflict of interests.
