Came here with a great mate last night for a change of scenery after talking about our lifes issues and struggles at the moment. Great Blues band and atmosphere, great efficient service and atmosphere. Been many many years ago but seemed to of forgotten about the pub, will be back.

i was there!!! sunday mothers day twenty twenty four!!! in a small space but still got all eleven of us at a table and a small child and a live band right beside us!!! ha ha!!! it was very sweet and humble effort!!! the food wasn't too shabby too!!! the band even kicked off their set with that 'down under' diggy sunday drive tune!!! all in all!!! stress level wise!!! i think it was the best sunday mothers day dinner i've ever had with the people i live with!!! thankyou to the management so much for helping to make it go okay!!! (i had two coca-colas and a roast dinner of which i did choose lamb but i don't know there was a bit of a mix up of beef or lamb dinners i still ate it i was too hungry to keep complaining by the time it was mentioned i was half way through it!!! and a cheese board for dessert which even came with grapes!!! top service for styling the plate up nicely!!!) (from looking at the platform tavern website it appears they have had and still have many different bands playing!!! so!!! if that is too nerve wracking while eating and drinking it's not the ideal place for you!!! anyways!!! in particular the band that time were a male and female with guitar skills and vocal skills all quite good!!! the only thing that struck as a negative was the female looked like she had left the painting in the back room for a bit and started mucking around on the mic while it dries!!! i mean!!! really really really going there with me!!! i prefer to see the whole thoughtful visual going there too with the performers for their audience!!!)

Stopped in here when passing for a bite to eat, what a jewel in the city!! Food was incredibly tasty and the service second to none. Highly recommended, see you all again very soon.

Booked a table online a couple of weeks back, got an automated confirmation email but arrived to find it was closed due to a fire the previous day. Been looking for a great Sunday roast for ages and this place did not disappoint. Fantastic food, it was a good portion, hot and tasty. The staff were lovely. Definitely will be back.

We stopped in with 5 minutes till kitchen closed , put in an order of fish and chips , best fish and chips , Nice minty garden peas , lovely friendly staff . Not on the tourist row but worth the effort to find . Had music too . Highly recommend

Our group called by here because of the RMS Titanic connections. We did not eat here but will most probably return some other time.

Best pub remaining in the town...fantastic live music - roots n blues ..not a chavvy Karaoke machine in sight ...food is fab so are the staff ...

Ordered the Sunday roast to have before watching The Hedgehogs. By far the best roast I have ever had and well worth the money. Friendly, smiley, attentive staff in particular thanks to Frankie who looked after me so well and made sure there wasn't anything else I needed. I absolutely love evenings spent here. Good music, relaxing atmosphere and good food. What more can you ask for?

What an incredible place! The decor is brilliant, extremely fascinating. The food is delicious - the Sunday roast is an absolute must, I’m drooling as I write this. And lovely and friendly staff to top it off. Will certainly be returning, regularly.

After leaving hungry from Dancing Man, we headed here for something to eat while we drank. The north wall of the establishment was actually part of the original town wall from 1350ish; the building itself was from the 1870s; and it was the last on-land berth for at least one Titanic crewman. Here, finally, we found food. My sausage and mustard on ‘grainy’ bread was really good, and Brenda’s fingers of fish on grainy bread was pretty good, but we’re pretty sure they came from Ye Olde Freezer and from far away. That said, our lunch special was the best value of any real meal we’d had in Southampton. Very engaging and helpful barkeep. Possibly our favorite of the four pubs we visited while in town.

Honest Pub grub. Large portion of good quality food...the steak pie was full of chucks of tender beef! None of that, "veg is an extra £5"... all included at a good price. Frankie the barman was friendly and helpful too.

Had lunch here 2 days on a row. First day as part of a business meeting, second time with colleagues. Great pub food both days, and more locally/inhouse prepared than at most places. Good service and great mood overall.

While a little tired and rough around the edges, it gives you that well loved feeling. I'm not a local, and to be honest, I'd rather drink somewhere with a more diverse beer selection, but there's something about this place that makes me think I'd spend a lot of time here if I had the opportunity. I had a couple of pints in the afternoon on the way to somewhere else, but would love to see this place on an evening with a band on - I bet it has a great atmosphere.

Sunday lunch was delicious! Large portions, crispy potatoes, lamb cooked to perfection, all freshly prepared. Great selection of beers. Highly recommend!

First timers. We booked a table for Mother's Day and was fairly impressed. Not the cheapest but well worth the money. The plates were full to the extent you couldnt get any more on them and the food was absolutely delicious. We will be eating there again

My boyfriends two friends recommended coming here for a roast dinner so we thought we would try somewhere completely new to us for a roast. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to the recommendation we were hoping for. The restaurant was quite cold & there were chairs & tables stacked around the room which didn’t give it a massively cosy Sunday feel. We had the roast beef as there was no chicken. The beef was so stringy and fatty I had to ask for another portion. The gent was lovely and brought another large portion which was appreciated, however the roast potatoes weee quite hard and not crispy, the veg was hard & the whole meal was Luke warm. By the time I was half way through it actually went cold so I didn’t want to finish it really. It’s a shame really as their live music evenings are great and The gent who served us was lovely and so was the lady at the bar. But for the quality of the meal for £45, we won’t be returning for a food again unfortunately.

Dog Friendly!!! Wandered around Southampton trying to find a dog friendly place. Even a cafe that said they were dog friendly - didn't allow dogs 🤣. Finally came across the Platform Tavern - dog friendly, with treats - and when I saw their Roast dinners I thought "must come back here". Great beer - loved the Red IPA- and will definitely be booking a table for Sunday lunch.

We booked a table for my sons 25th birthday, the staff were excellent, food was amazing, would definitely recommend. Love the atmosphere. Definitely will be going back to try a roast.

Ate here last night and didn't have high hopes tbh. However, I was very wrong. The fish and chips was probably one of the best I've ever had. The triple cooked chips were perfect. Crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The young man serving was lovely. Friendly, attentive and looked like he enjoys his job. Such a change from most places. The duo singing were very good too. 👍

Have eaten here on several occasions in the last 6 months and the meal has always been good. Went with friends again this evening but unfortunately they were out of pie, so we went for 2x burgers and 2x fish and chips. The burgers were good but the fish and all the chips were overcooked, greasy and virtually inedible. We told the waitor guy (who was lovely) that our food was poor, which was evident from the amount left on the plates. He spoke to the manager about our dissatisfaction but she was unwilling to make any adjustment to the bill. Really upset that all we got was a glare from the manager and not so much as an apology. We will not be returning. Such a shame.

One of the best pub in Soton! Remerkable indigeneous decoration! Although, almost no vegan food chooise.

Booked here on a whim the night before a cruise and so glad we did. Service drinks and decor was great but the star of the show was the food. That beef pie is a thing of beauty and probably in my top 3 ever. Opted for chips instead of mash and again, so glad I did as they are great, so crispy. Wife had a salad with halloumi and was also very impressed. Hopefully will be back again at some point as need to tackle THAT pie again.

We booked this table for dinner and it was lush! We were visiting the area and stayed all night as we went on to enjoy the live music after our dinner. Great, prompt service, lovely atmosphere - we enjoyed it so much we came back for dinner the following night too!!

Arrived at the Platform Saturday evening about 7pm, was shown to a table then went to the bar to get drinks. Asked for a menu, was looking at it as drinks were being poured, put it down to pay for drinks and it was snatched away by passing waitress ! Took drinks to table and returned to bar to ask for another menu, was told they didn't have any more, they were waiting for some to be printed. Had noticed lamb shank on my earlier quick glance and asked barman if it was available and he said he would find out, sat at table three quarters of an hour, barman didn't get back to me, never saw a waitress or a menu !!! Walked out hungry and disappointed, remarked to the barman that they needed to get some menus in a hurry if they want to sell food, to be fair to him he did apologize and he enough to do manning the bar. Not sure whether to call it poor service or an understaffing issue, but all it takes is someone to say we're very busy at the moment, we will get to you as soon as we can.

I always look forward to visiting Southampton for work as it means I can eat a meal here. I have as yet to have a bad meal and I’ve visited half a dozen times. My favourite so far is the beef and Guinness pie- this...

Ordered the pie of the day . Took 40 minutes and then pie was burnt and tasted bitter . I complained and they replaced it with another slice of burnt pie . Very disappointed

If you want a roast dinner that’s a good size and tasty this is the place to go. Lovely. Vegan pie was lovely. We will go back for sure.

Decided to try the Platform Tavern on the spur of the moment whilst walking the dog and seeing that there was a table free outside. So glad we did. A real pub with friendly staff, good beer and fantastic food.

It’s a hidden gem that’s not really hidden at all. I found the Platform Tavern a year ago when I was lost and had a lovely meal. Trouble is on this visit to Southampton I had no clue where it was and as usual I was stubborn and thought If I wander long enough I’ll find it. Who needs Google Maps! Success, a great meal and a gorgeous cider (two) later and I am more than satisfied. After chatting to the owner I discover they have live music three nights a week. Sold. Next time I’m here I’ll book a hotel.

Had Sunday lunch today .Lots on the plate but could have been hotter.( we’ve been here before and it’s been good ) I had beef which was gristly,and a tad tough.veg was ok but roast potatoes could have been roasted a bit more .Hubby had pork with crackling which wasn’t crackling as it was soft .

If you’re early for the ferry you’re in luck. Excellent in every way. Red velvet ceiling, iguana lampshades crawling up the wall,, padded armchairs, proper restaurant, tiny stage,, friendly staff, even a customer said hello. Thank you for perfect halloumi and chorizo, exquisite chips with skin on.

Great staff and food. We had lunch on a hot Sunday. We didn’t really want too much to eat, and the menu looked great but with big dishes. The staff very kindly gave us the weekday lunch menu instead. We had a really good door stop sandwich and some great tapas dishes to share.

I went here with a friend last night, the glazed pork steaks were presented to a Michelin star standard, full of flavour and a decent sized portion, I ate the whole lot. I recommend this small but cosy pub to anyone atmosphere was great and the service was to a high standard.

I would just like to thank Stuart and his team at the Plaffirm Tavern. Had 3 wonderful roast beef dinners delivered by Stuart himself. The beef was tender and full of flavour and the Yorkshire pudding best we ever had. Stuart delivered it lovely friendly guy. Please please do yourselves a favour try the food here. The pub itself is beautiful and has such a warm welcome. Well done guys.

We decided to go to Southampton for a couple of night to cheer ourselves up.We arrived wet and miserable, had a walk to the harbour, lost my hat due to 180mph winds.On the way back to the hotel we found this lovely looking pub.Upon entry i noticed it wasa real English pub, after signing in with the covid stuff we were met by Dan, His knowledge of the Ales made my heart warm, decided on an Ascot stout while the Mrs has a largery type drink.Had a good chat and found out it was a real local pub, lots of stories from Dan about the local legends and trade etc due to the times.Anyway off we went.Next day the Mrs decided it was time for shopping (wahoo)We covered most and finished up in Ikea, 3 hours later with arms filled with bargains we eventually found an exit and returned to our hotel.My lovely wife then decided we should go for a walk.....Cunningly i misguided her back to the Platform Tavern. PerfectAfter a warm greeting from Dan we sat and were soon joined by one of Southampton's legends Harry.He has been drinking in the pub since he was 14.We had a lovely chat and our quick half pint turned into a few more.It must be said that this was one of the best parts of our visitAles were well looked after and the place was clean and tidy.I hope you survive the latest instalment of Covid and we will be back some daySay hello to Harry for us and we hope to return sometime.Cheers all.

Decidimos ir a comer en un pub y este lugar parecía tan bueno como cualquier otro. Sin embargo, nos decepcionó un poco ver que lo que estaba en su sitio web no es necesariamente lo que se le ofrecerá. - creo que se remonta a 2018. El personal parecía tener mucho cuidado con las condiciones actuales, lo que te hace sentir más cómodo. La comida era deliciosa y buenas raciones, tuve la enchilada de ternera, que disfruté muchísimo. El único inconveniente fue la falta de variedad de postres, solo helado o queso y galletas, mi hija estaba muy decepcionada porque no tenían existencias del brownie de chocolate.

Pub atmosférico cerca de los muelles. Excelente selección de cervezas y vinos. Nuestro grupo de cinco adultos, incluidos dos 'vegetales', disfrutó de un agradable almuerzo dominical aquí. Los asados de panceta de cerdo y la ternera estaban magníficamente cocinados y los vegetarianos dijeron que también les gustaba mucho su comida. Personal muy amable y eficiente. ¡Vale la pena una visita!

Comimos aquí durante la iniciativa gubernamental "Come fuera para ayudar".Muy acogedor y el bar tenía un poco de carácter. El único miembro del personal que vimos fue agradable y servicial, un DJ se las arregló admirablemente con lo que se convirtió en una velada bastante ocupada.La comida era comida de pub de buena calidad y vale la pena lo que pagamos. Teníamos el pastel del día (carne con cerveza) y una hamburguesa de carne y pollo. Mucha comida y sin esperar.Habíamos pasado por West Quay y por High Street, donde todos los restaurantes estaban llenos y hacían cola afuera, lo que parecía un infierno.Recomendaría este bar a cualquiera por su calidad, variedad y un poco de vida que no se ha fabricado como muchos de los otros restaurantes.

It doesn't matter if your on your own or in a group your always made to feel welcome and safe. Excellent hygiene measures in place and really good food too.

Decidimos entrar en The Platform Tavern cuando pasamos y notamos que estaba siendo renovado. Qué increíble golpe de suerte. Medidas de higiene en su lugar y el miembro muy cortés del personal, Chloe, preguntó dónde nos gustaría sentarnos. El menú tenía muchas opciones, pero ambos optamos por la hamburguesa doble con queso. Esto no defraudó. Las papas fritas tenían piel, la ensalada de col tenía un toque único y la hamburguesa era tan jugosa acompañada de un pan suave ligeramente tostado. Estamos muy emocionados de volver y probar el resto de lo que se ofrece. Bien hecho. Comida increíble.
