The May Tree in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

We were staying at the Premier Inn and went her for dinner on Sunday evening and breakfast on the following morning. Although the menu is standard Brewers Fayre, it was well-cooked on both occasions, the breakfast in particular being one of the best I've ever had at any Premier Inn. What really made this place special was the fantastic service with both meals, each time the person serving us was welcoming, friendly and efficient. My 11 yo son said it was the best service he had ever had and made sure that I left a tip twice, praise indeed from him.

The food was nice chef Carley cooked brilliant steak and the service from Chloe was excellent. Would definitely recommend the May Tree. Had a lovely meal.

Although the food was good when it eventually arrived the service was slower than slow. We had children with us who became irritable with the long wait, spoiling it for all of us. After waiting twenty minutes we had to go and ask them to clear our table and get our desserts.

We visited The Maytree for breakfast with our family and so glad we did. The booking system online was super easy. We arrived to be greeted by a waitress called Kayleigh. She was super friendly and welcoming. All the food was available and the cooked breakfast was hot and tasty. Not only is The Maytree fantastic value, but a great family restaurant with top notch waiting staff like Kayleigh. Thank you!

After being turned away from two carveries for a roast as they were fully booked ,fortunately we were due to pass the May Tree and decided to call in on the off chance. How lucky were we. They were over the lunchtime peak and our roasts were perfect as was the service and ambience. Thank you May Tree.

Went here two nights in a row, food excellent, service excellent, staff friendly and efficient couldn't fault it, even the prices were reasonable, highly recommend the mixed grill, excellent find.

Very busy little place, we turned up accidentally half an hour before our booked time but our table was ready anyway. Staff were amazing, food came out quickly and was lovely. Perfect little stop off if you're in the area.

i absolutely love eating at The May Tree when i come down to Cornwall, it’s just such a lovely pub. from the incredibly friendly and attentive staff, to the amazing quality of meals, this is why i love this pub so much! it’s also an amazing bonus that it’s a 30 second walk from the Premier Inn across the road. if you’re staying in the hotel, don’t forget to book ALL of your meals here as it can get booked up pretty quickly. thank you to all the staff here for making our meal so lovely!

Das Restaurant oder der Pub, ist irgendwas dazwischen, liegt direkt neben dem Premier Inn. Hier kann man schnell noch Essen gehen, wenn man neben an eingechecked hat. Auch das Frühstück vom Premier Inn wird hier morgens serviert. Unser Abendessen, zwei Pizzen, Salat und Chicken Nuggets mit Pommes, waren soweit ok, und vom Preis her in Ordnung. Die Bedienung war sehr nett und hat uns all unsere Fragen zu den Details der Speisekarte beantwortet. Auch das etwas rustikale Ambiente hat uns ganz gut gefallen.

Lovely staff. Very friendly and welcoming. Nice meals and good prices. Sadly the restaurant desperately needs refurbishment as its scruffy and the chairs and carpet are badly stained.

Casual evening out. With the usual pub fare. I had fish pie which was delicious and my husband had Gammon. All very nicely cooked. Good, efficient service.

The May Tree is aligned to the Premier Inn and services the customers of the PI. 27th June 24. We stayed at the Premier inn on 27th June arriving at 1030 pm after a long and exhausting day. 1040pm went into the May Tree for a refreshing night cap. We were informed the bar was closed, they had cashed up and called orders 30 minutes earlier. Clearly not customer focused service. I will not be returning to this public house and this premier in has lost my business

Had lunch from the main menu. I had the platter and my wife had curry. Both excellent. Service was also the best we have had here. Very good visit and would strongly recommend.

Visited The May Tree on 17th January for lunch. My friend and I have enjoyed many meals at The May Tree, we both chose to have Fish & Chips from the 2 for £10.99 menu. I enquired what was today's fish, the reply was pollack, no problem I thought, I will spend another £1.99 and have haddock, this has been an option for many years. I was informed that this NOW is only available on the main lunch menu at £12.99. We both decided to stick with the 2 for £10.99 menu, however what arrived was a compete disappointment, the size of the fish was comparable to eating 3 fish fingers. We were both very disappointed with our meals. On returning home I checked the online menu for The May Tree and it states that you can pay the extra £1.99 and chose haddock when ordering from the 2 for £10.99 menu.. SO WHO IS RIGHT,CUSTOMER BEWARE.

The staff were fantastic. Incredibly welcoming and considerate of all their diners. Advice and warmth was given throughout my experience.

For the first time we booked a Christmas day dinner and it could not have been better, it was spot on. The service and meal was excellent and we really enjoyed ourselves. So much that as we had family visiting for the new year we booked again for a New Years Day meal. Unfortunately it didn't go as planned and didn't start well. We were shown to our reserved table but the seating was really shabby and badly stained se we asked for another table. I am not a fussy person and rarely complain but I felt that our family deserved better. We ordered food but when mine arrived, the steak I had requested medium to well done was under cooked, rare to medium and red in the middle. I could not eat it and they agreed to replace the complete meal. Twenty minutes later came the replacement and the steak was exactly the same, could have been the same steak. I could not believe this, the steak was still red, not even pink. By now the others had finished their meals so after complaining again I could not wait another twenty minutes so I ate my meal less the steak. I think by then we had been labelled as possibly troublesome, as usually we have visits to the table during the meal to make sure everything is OK but this time we were ignored. in fairness, they agreed not to charge me for my meal but by then the whole occasion had been spoilt. I took a photo of my steak and have been told that it was rare, edging slightly to medium. My previous visits have been in the evening when things are not noticed in the shadows but in the daytime you see things differently. It is getting shabby in places and the seating could certainly do with a thorough deep clean. It has been open now for 15 years I believe and it's probably time for a bit of a makeover. The staff are good and friendly, cannot fault them, but after this latest offering I am afraid it will be awhile before visiting again. Such a shame after our Xmas day experience but it is the bad and awful ones that get remembered the most.

First time returning since 2019 and such a disappointment. Zero charm. Despite being a freezing cold January night, not one of the contemporary fireplaces working. Apparently they’re too expensive to run. Menu is derivative; beige and fried. Used to offer more premium options; salmon, sea bass etc, alas no more. Staff were pleasant however, just not a particularly pleasant place to dine anymore. Shame.

Many restaurants next to Premier Inns are mediocre - but we were very pleased with the May Tree. We had a very good value dinner and an excellent breakfast. The quality and choice of food (especially for breakfast) was great and the staff were really friendly and efficient. Highly recommend 👍

I visit many premier inns around the country and don't do reviews. However my experience here compared to other Whitbread establishments attached to premier Inns has led me to make the effort. There is an exceptional staff team here all are polite and welcoming, this is a rarety know in post COVID usually all you hear is we are busy or we're short staffed and other text book excuses. Its a credit to the management and staff that they all work together and for each other. Well done

Four of us meet up 5 times a year (4 birthdays + Christmas) and we always go to The Maytree. The food is what we expect for the price we pay, the service is always first class, the staff are a credit to The Maytree and Whitbread Inns.

Since my previous review some time ago .. THINGS HAVE CHANGED ......My latest visit for lunch at the MAY TREE......was an absolute delight ...!! We were served by RACHEL who took our order with absolute professionalism and in a genuinely delightful manner .........which set the tone for the whole meal .......The food was clearly prepared by someone who knew what they were doing in the kitchen ! .....My food was attractively and beautifully presented .....was piping HOT ....and was absolutely delicious ......I would now highly recommend a visit and commend the management and chef ....for making this establishment so very much better than on my previous visit ......Thank you 👍💥

I would first like to say that I have been to The May Tree many times and, food has always been very good and we've always had a good time. Several of these good times have been Christmas Day lunches which were always spot on. Therefore, this review is born out of pure frustration. I booked our Christmas Day lunch in July and received a confirmation email. Great, all sorted, I thought. I called in September to confirm once again as I had had no further communication (very early yet, no cause for concern just me being careful). One of the ladies at the restaurant said 'yes, not to worry, you're on the system' I asked about the lack of deposit as we live in South Wales but was assured our booking at The Premier Inn was sufficient guarantee of our attendance. Great. Several more weeks pass and I receive a phone call asking for my order. All done! Then, a bit more time passed and I received a voice message from a lady saying I had not confirmed and I was in danger of my booking being cancelled. I immediately phoned and after half a day of trying, someone picked up. That person said 'No, don't worry, I see you on the system. You're all sorted. Ignore the call'. Fine. Until Monday, when I received yet another voice message telling me I hadn't confirmed and unless I got in touch by close of business that my booking would be cancelled. As this lady left no number we assumed we should call the restaurant direct. Cue two days of constant phone calling (no pick up whatsoever) emailing both the May Tree and Whitbread. Calling Whitbread (in India) who hung up on us. I even sent a Facebook message to Whitbread and voice message to the restaurant. The ONLY response was from Whitbread Facebook page asking us if we'd tried to email The May Tree directly (genius!) as they couldn't help us at all. Today I received an email from The May Tree THANKING US FOR CANCELLING! Livid is not the word. After a year of hospitalisations this was to be a welcome break away from our troubles but as it stands, our Christmas plans are in ruins. We have now even had to cancel the hotel as we couldn't find another restaurant to take a Christmas Day booking at such short notice. I honestly couldn't have done any more to prevent this from happening. I have never experienced such poor customer service from so many different departments. I don't want a reply as there is nothing that could be said to redress this matter. I have actually only come on here as it's the only outlet I can think of to let The May Tree know exactly how their lack of professional and lack of communication, with each other and with us has caused a holiday, five months in the making, to be thrown out of the window and engendered such anger and disappointment that I've resorted to writing an entire essay on TripAdvisor just to feel heard, God knows, no phone is ever picked up to have an actual discussion. Abysmal!

I have visited The Maytree many times as it is local to me and have always been very satisfied with the food, service and the polite friendly staff. Therefore it was with confidence I booked for my family of six to celebrate my grandson's 10th birthday on Tuesday the 28th of November. Again the food was excellent. However, I had previously telephoned them and asked if I could take a birthday cake up and if they would be kind enough bring it out with the candles lit in between courses. They readily agreed. It was a complete surprise for my grandson and indeed his mum, dad and sister when the manager, and approximately six members of staff brought the cake out, lit and all singing happy birthday. Obviously we joined in as did quite a few customers sat near to us. To say my grandson Theo was overwhelmed was an undertatnent. He was clearly very emotional. Maytree staff, thank you so very much for making Theo's birthday extra special. We will continue visiting you and recommending you to everyone. A special thank you to our little red headed waitress who was excellent.

Food is exceptional value before 6 pm. Same as the standard menu but with cheaper food. The food is good for a large chain and the service friendly. This restaurant can be busy and it can be wise to book a table

My mum & I took a chance on getting a table without booking, Tiffany quickly showed us to an available table. We were very speedily served with drinks and our orders taken. The food was good and arrived hot and presented well. Tiffany was friendly but professional. Dessert was great! Kayleigh took our payment, she was also very friendly and professional. She advised us that by using the tasty rewards card we could earn points. Overall a really great experience for an impromptu visit!

Whilst the ambience and really helpful staff hasn't changed the value menu certainly has ! The amount of food served, for instance the smothered chicken which I often choose, has been cut drastically ! There is now no coleslaw or salad served with this meal when ordered from the "value " menu. It is now more of a snack than a lunch and would make me think very carefully whether I came back or looked at one of the many other local lunch venues !
