The Master Mariner in Wirral

Drinks are very reasonably priced. Food is hit and miss. Tastes good but mainly served luke warm due to sitting under lamps and not served quick enough. Tables were left with dirty glasses on for ages and table cleaning was definitely lacking.

I visit the Master Mariner regularly and suppose I've come to take it for granted. It's only when I decide to try somewhere else (see my last review) that I realise just what a good deal and great expeience Wetherspoons offer. Great beer at great prices. Great value food that is consistently good. I've tried Wetherspoons all over the UK from Glasgow and Newcastle down to Cambridge. Tim knows how to run a business. Too many pubs and restaurants are only interested in making a sale. Wetherspoons and all good businesses understand that success comes from creating customers that return over and over again. I'm happy to pay premium prices for top quality food and drink but way too many venues don't deliver the premium product but are happy to charge the premium prices. I've been a happy customer of Wetherspoons for many years and hopefully many more!

Drinks cheap and cheerful. Staff don't appear to be enjoying working there as not a lot of smiles there

great service and good food and choices of beers all reasonably priced. great choice of breakfasts lunches and dinners and a balcony area upstairs with a really good view of the river and some of the Liverpool waterfront. also a raised patio area downstairs with table service.

Its been a while but now we are back and had to meet a friend up from London and this is the perfect place for it. £1.80 a pint ...... nothing to complain about and all food and drink comes with that super view of the Mersey.

Very busy but loads of young staff (mainly) on duty and they were very friendly and attentive. We ordered drinks and food via the Wetherspoons app so we didn't have long to wait and our meals were good value and piping hot.

The service was quick, food lovely, and the customer service nothing short of legendary. Shout out to the cashier and kitchen staff, my mates ordered me 10 portions of beans remotely and by God they delivered. Would highly recommend for both family dinners and meet-ups with friends.

We are normally regulars here, however we will not be returning. The quality of food has gone downhill, the tables are never clean and even when they’ve been asked if it’s okay to clean them they wiped over quickly and left them sticky. Considering we are in the middle of a pandemic I found this shocking. The wait time for food has increased dramatically in the last few weeks. We waited over an hour after our children had finished their dinner for our food which only came out because we saw it sat on the hot plate for 30 minutes and then realised it was ours even then the staff weren’t bothered including the managers. I would avoid at all costs they have lost some loyal customers.

This is a small pub in the marina. The menu is small but there is a good variety of choice. The chips were beautiful and I would give them 5 out of 5. The fish was disappointing bearing in mind we are at the coast. I would be happy coming back as generally the meal was fine.

The food used to be mediocre at best, which we didn’t really mind as it was nice enough for a cheap meal out. Massively gone downhill lately though. Everywhere is sticky and dirty, the tables are rarely cleared or cleaned, and the food is now inedible. Avoid.

It took 35 minutes for our food to arrive, and we noted others having the same problem. Staff very apologetic, but if only we’d been warned before we ordered. It’s a lovely spot on the Promenade. Everything was very clean, and it was busy on a warm August day. The food was standard Wetherspoon, tasty enough but not outstanding. We ordered prawns with sweet chili sauce, arrived without the sauce, and when we asked, were told the sauce wasn’t available, we’d have to help ourselves to other condiments. We do know many places are struggling with staff shortages, and by the time we finished, they were stopping anybody from coming in, so the place was full. But it wasn’t really as good service as we used to get from Wetherspoons.

Dirty uncleared tables, poor staffing numbers and badly trained staff that let most of the hard working staff down! Walked out after consulting the tiny lettering an reduced menu….poor, poor, poor! I know we don’t do service particularly well in this Country but Wetherspoon seems to degenerate by the year! Good luck opening the extension because you will have to rethink your whole approach!

A beautiful setting in the Brighton Marina. We had lunch from the bar menu, really nice sandwiches & great beer. Lovely host, thank you to all the staff & chef

Lovely food and drinks, however customer service was awful. Walked in, asked someone who looked like a manager (white shirt/black pants, radio, approx. 1:30pm Tuesday afternoon 20 July 2021) he just brushed us off when asking if we just take a seat or wait to be seated, really rude behavior, and completely unwelcoming. All available tables were dirty, and when our drinks got brought over the waitress didn’t even offer to wipe the table down. I manage a bar and am very aware of customer service and was very unhappy with the service and being completely unnoticed.

Went here for a quick bite to eat with the family. Ordered two cheese and ham panninis, 2 fried chicken and mayo wraps, a scampi and chips, and a round of drinks. They sent out 2 tomato panninis, (think they were supposed to be cheese and tomato), but there was no cheese on them. One wrap had no mayo on it. The chicken was dry. No side salad or anything with the wraps, and panninis. No condiments given, or offered. Food is very, very poor. Pub is in a great location it’s a little sun trap in the front and it is currently being extended. Would I eat there again? no, would I have a drink in there again? yes.

We often come to New Brighton and visit weatherspoons for breakfast. We’ve not been fr 18 months due to Covid but went today and must say that the place needs a full deep clean. We sat in the alcove area and the seating was filthy...

When in New Brighton all ways head to the weatherspoons staff nice and friendly and food nice and reasonable and management all ways go out of their way to make us feel welcome this particular time it was a young woman called Jo or Joanne...

We followed staff advice and ordered what they called "substantial food" only to be told we couldn't have any more drinks with our meal. We accepted this however we were then abused by the manager and told to shut up. She called us children then...

We came here for a drink after a walk down new Brighton promenade. They have a good track and trace system for COVID but then you get inside the pub and nothing is clean so pointless to be honest. Won’t be coming back any time...

... infact not people friendly atall. Attempted to take blind wheelchair bound mum into the pub via disabled entrance, gate was locked and bolted. Walked further down to be met by a rude member of staff shouting at people to queue up down the side...

So food was very much as expected, good value and we enjoyed. But I took my 3 year old to the mens toilet. 2 cubicles was available. One had a massive poo in and toilet wouldn't flush. so went to use the other one that...

My twin brother Stephen and I were pub hopping and decided to drop into The Master Marina Pub along the promenade of New Brighton and what a very pleasant visit we had.Set over two floors with an outside upstairs terrace looking out onto the busy and popular promenade and sea beyond,your typical Wetherspoon decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options, a good Wetherspoon pub indeed. My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Saturday afternoon, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of the staff, we gave our details of name and phone number to assist with the governments track and trace system and then sanitised our hands and we were led to a table, we ordered a buttermilk burger and as part of the burger meal deal we were entitled to a beer each,we chose bottles of Devils Backbone Brewing Co ipa, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and we just kicked back and took in the great pub we were in. My beer was really good, a crisp, well balanced ipa bursting with taste, very easy to drink, a beer style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond of, while sipping our beers our burger meals arrived and what a treat, burger was superb,a tender cut of chicken smothered in breadcrumbs, a more than generous topping served between two fresh tasty buns, chips were also delicious, coupled with our delicious beers made for a great dining experience in a cool Wetherspoon pub. We really enjoyed our burger meals and beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The Master Marina Pub is easy to locate along Union Terrace along the Promenade. Opening hours are;Monday to Thursday, 8am till Midnight. Friday & Saturday, 8am till 1am. Sunday, 8am till Midnight. A great pub,if your in the area most definitely well worth a visit .

So this is my favourite weatherspoons to go, i always have the same food and the place is always clean.this is lovely fast service,the workers always work hard to make the food nice and I never had a problem ,you have really nice restaurant

Two of us called in for drinks ,we sat outside in the sun had to fill in a track and trace form,we ordered drinks via the app,there was a one way system in place ,tables were clean and sanitised, the staff were very professional

Impromptu breakfast visit .....Typically cheep and cheerful. Fairly clean and felt safe. The food was much much better that we expected and for a tenner for two large cooked breakfasts with unlimited coffee (again much better quality than expected) we were to say the least extremely chuffed we made the right decision to pop in. My only recommendation to others is to go early (like we did) as the place fills up very quickly. By the time we left the staff weren’t (unsurprisingly)looking as cheerful hahaha!! Thank you to the extremely kind, attentive and entertaining staff

Decided to sit upstairs in the sun, but told upstairs was by the app only, had a go, got so far but could not get payment approved, bar staff were ok as the card was registered now and they had helped and saw the problem so I was then able to paywith the card. . I hate this method and stuff paying with an app. And the picture is not what the place looks like either

My twin brother Stephen and I were having a great day out in New Brighton when we decided to drop into The Master Mariner Pub, a great Wetherspoon pub facing the marina.Set over two floors, great decor and furnishings including a cool looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling marina area ,theres also a cool upstairs outside terrace but with the blustery weather we opted to sit inside. We luckily managed to get a table were we ordered a chicken burger each with chips,as part of the burger meal we were entitled to a beer each,we chose Devil's Backbone Brewing Co " American ipa " these beers were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and we just chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. The beer was excellent, a light,hoppy and well balanced ipa bursting with taste,very easy to drink, after a short wait our burger meals arrived and what a treat, lovely lean chicken burgers ,a light coating of breadcrumbs, a very generous filling served between two fresh tasty buns, chips were also superb and coupled with our delicious beers made for a first class dining experience. We moved on after our burger meals and drinks and as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The Master Mariner Pub is easy to locate along the marine promenade on Union Terrace Marina Promenade. Opening hours are;Monday to Thursday, 8am till Midnight. Friday & Saturday, 8am till 1am.Sunday, 8am till Midnight. A great Wetherspoon pub, well worth checking out if your in the area.

Had tea here before going to Floral Pavilion, took advantage of the Steak night deal. Both our steaks were excellent, cooked as we wanted and service was very good. Called in after the show for a few drinks, quite busy for a Tuesday night, staff were friendly and service was good

Went for lunch today Tuesday 3rd March, it was steak Tuesday, what a disappoint ment. The Sirloin steak was barely edible, tough with NO flavour.

It always seems a puzzle this one. There are 8 hand pumps on the ground floor but only a choice of 4 ales as each set of 4 are identical but come off individual casks (I asked about this) and upstairs the same 4 ales ....... why not 8 at the bar downstairs? as all the other Wetherspoons around Merseyside don't double or triple up the cask ale ranges and often offer up to 10 - 12 different beers ..... a conundrum.That said ..... a pint today was £1.49 maybe because it was the day of Storm Denis. This is not a complaint ..... just an observation!

We popped in for lunch on Saturday and again for breakfast on Sunday morning. Both very good and excellent value for money.

My wife has Terminal Cancer she has been out of Hospital for over a week after spending over a month in there for a reoccurance of the cancer after being unable to go out the previous two weeks prior to admission so its nearly 8 weeks since she has been out, today the 30/1/20 we managed to get out weather being quite nice we decided on a walk around the Marine lake and the Prom then go to Weatherspoons for a meal and a drink no such luck when we got there we could not see any apparent wheelchair access whatsover not much more to say is there my terminally ill wife is not welcome at Weatherspoons New Brighton

Very good service , lovely fish and chip dinner,Met the duty manager by the name of Mike and Told him this pub is one of the best iv been to,The kitchen staff where all clean and tidy,Cant wait to call again.it deserves the 5 stars..

I avoid this chain like a plague so to actually visit one is remarkable. As a chain the outlets always seem to attract a boozy or noisy crowd - wouldnt want to offend but not my scene. This pub however was neither so that was a relief but the place is all bits and pieces - there is little cohesion in the design of the place - very odd. Order for evening meal taken 3 starters and 3 mains. Not expensive but all of the starters and mains arrived at the same time!! That seems normal having questioned it !! So now the food well it was just OK. 2 mixed grills had without any doubt been under the heat lamps for a long time. Most of it was just OK but the steak and pork loin were so dry. Staff were pleasant enough. The place was clean.I only visited this outlet because I had a voucher present from last Christmas but alas I wont be revisiting Wetherspoons.It came down to expectations.

Me and my partner visited on Friday morning for breakfast. The place wasn't overly busy but there was a lot of tables with dirty plates so we had to go into the big room at the back for a table. Didn't have to wait long for our breakfast two small traditional ones. The plates were nice and warm so the food was not cold only thing was the coffees go cold very quickly but with the free refill option you can go and top it up with more hot coffee. We enjoy going out for breakfast as it is nice and quiet and you can go shopping afterwards.

Stayed in New Brighton for a couple of days to catch up with friends. Weather was terrible so decided to nip into the Master Mariner. I've always been put off with this chain as ours in Essex looks like a 1970's bingo hall. However, I couldn't fault this place.Open kitchen and friendly staff. Good choice of ale at a low price and evening meal specials. During our visit we stopped off here for breakfast, afternoon drinks and evening meal. My friend thought it was so good that he plans to try a couple near him in Hampshire and London. It certainly woke us up and changed our view on things.

Decided on last minute tea out here. Food was served quite quickly and by a polite and helpful member of staff. Partner had chicken and ribs combo and I had cheese jacket potato with side salad. Plus opted for a few onion rings. Food was lovely. The only little disappointment was that I was informed that they no longer serve coleslaw, which I usually order with my meal. Relaxed atmosphere as usual. Would recommend a visit.

Been to this place many of times and always had a decent enough service by today's standards but, today, I had a pretty outstanding one! Georgia L is a great multi tasker. She had me served and the service paid for within about 2 minutes, no messing about! Very efficient, pleasant and professional. Thank you Georgia :-)

Two couples regularly eat here throughout the year. Good staff, good value food, often with drink included. Sometimes difficult to get a seat, but generally OK if you go early.

Arrived after a meal nearby. Typical spoons menu and prices. Good service but lacked a atmosphere in the evenings. Didnt eat but food was available.

We called in for a breakfast ahead of a long day. It was standard Wethies fare, which is fine. Good value and prompt service. The tables were clean and tidy. The communication system was down apparently which meant I couldn’t have Hash Browns taken off the plate. I despise them. The plates were cold which meant the meals were too. I ate mine but my partner sent hers back, to be replaced with a lovely warm breakfast. Georgina was the waitress and she was great! Good staff can make such a difference to a visit.

Staff are really kind, Cheap prices good service have a laugh with the staff. Food was filling, presented well. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

We order 3 teas one pot came out with no lid cups were dirty we ask to have clean cups to be told that it’s not the waitress job and the evening staff had not done their job and they couldn’t find things , very bad attitude , we had our money back not even offering a apology, nice place Shame about the staff.

We were very disappointed in their service this visit... for a couple of years now this has been our favourite place to eat .. I know it was a bank holiday Monday... but we usually do go there on a bank holiday Monday.. so no different for us... tables were not being cleared of empty glasses .. staff collected plates but tables were really full of glasses .. when I went to the bar to order food .. I asked if someone could just wipe our table down .. as it was very sticky..I got passed a wet cloth to do it myself .. then when the meal came the waiter looked stressed .. I asked for ketchup.. salt.. and vinegar.. as I couldn't find any that you usually are able to help yourself too. He came back with a brand new ketchup from the kitchen.. fine..but then I asked for the salt and vinegar ..to then be told quite rudely.. flinging his arms out ..saying .. to go and find it yourself from any table as he couldn't find any.. then he walked off .. a lady from a nearby table looked round at me ..and kindly said we could use theirs .. lastly I went back to the bar which wasnt too busy .. and got ignored.. they kept serving people that were taller than me .. and came to the bar after me.. a gentleman kindly told the bar keeper it was my turn to be served .. so no thank you Wetherspoon's of New Brighton.. when we next visit New Brighton ... we will be eating else where

I recommend that place. Good cheap food nice atmosphere. Fast and nice service. Clean toilets. Friendly place for couples and families.

We decided to take our grandson (6) out to New Brighton Fair stopping off at Wetherspoons.

Anotger straight forward weatherspoons with no complaints. Refillable coffe for me and american pancakes for her. Win win.

Went there last night, the place was very busy but the staff were very good at seeing who was next in the line waiting to be served and the door staff had everyone in control, good atmosphere apart from a few idiots in the male toilets, went there this morning for a cold drink and unfortunately the cleaners hadn’t been in because I was sticking to the floor haha but staff where still helpful

Yes ..... the upstairs has the river views but only ever one person on the bar. Two of the Real Ales lines were empty but the same ales were on downstairs but we were not told that and to find out for ourselves later ....... and when a person wanted a coffee / tea the barman had to go downstairs to bring up a single mug leaving everyone waiting upstairs. Why not bring a tray of mugs up? ....... I don't know ..... the staff were not interested at all today ........ maybe an off day perhaps or Saturday part timers.

I visited here with my elderly parents and my brothers family from spain. Nice day out on the beach and to here where we had loud sky high idiots( this is before 6pm on a Tuesday) trying to fight a 70 year old for a chair even though their were 5 chairs free. As we were leaving they were bumping into us and wanting to fight at 6pm. Great family day out what bunch of muppets and the staff had the blinkers on. Superb advertiment for wirral.

I think the service and one of the staff I got his name Charlie was absolutely shocking he walked over without even greeting us he didn’t say please or thank you he was swearing under his breath like he didn’t want to be there he was very very rude we come here a lot with our family and the children and it’s safe to say you’ve lost good custom I hope Charlie seriously has a think about his attitude

Came in for breakfast - we were not disappointed. The mushroom and egg hollandaise was lovely. Those in the group that had the large breakfast struggled as it was very large.

Called in here with my daughter for a quick drink and dessert and wish we hadn’t- the place was filthy!!!! Even my 8 year old daughter said ‘don’t touch the table it’s disgusting’

Family of 9 went for breakfast ( normally really nice) today however it was awful! We were informed that our meals would be about 50 minutes (presuming cos it’s Father’s Day) and we got them after about an hour and 10 minutes later. Food was cold and 4 of the orders were wrong. 2 of the orders didn’t get the toast and 2 didn’t get the black pudding that we’d paid extra for. When we mentioned it the black pudding came but only for 1 of the meals. At this stage we thought we’d give up!

I’ve been here plenty of times before, we often eat at various Wethies for convenience.

Excellent service and good food. Staff very helpful. Tables cleared quickly and some good offers. Nice outside seating area.

Called there for lunch with wife and two grandchildren. Had to queue to order food for ten minutes as only one staff behind the bar. Food was really good and arrived within ten minutes.

Quickly served, really well priced, on a sunny evening ate outside on the balcony. Very good , and a great spot

Caravanning on the Wirral gave us an opportunity to dine at another Wetherspoons after a walk along the promenade. It was Chicken Club Day so we had one of our favourites,10 Spicy Chicken Wings served with chips, coleslaw and a choice of sauce, sticky barbecue for me and a hot Sriracha for my husband and it was reasonably priced at £7.70 including a drink. We enjoyed the meal and it was very filling. It was a very cold wind so we couldn't sit on the balcony but it was pleasant sitting in front of a window overlooking the promenade.

Just popped in today hubby myself and the dog not a sole sitting outside so we sat there away from the pub. Hubby went in to order the drinks, I was approached and told to leave with my very well behaved dog .I was sitting outside what is your problem weatherspoons. They have erected a sign on entrance no dogs allowed, unfortunately for us we went in via disabled entrance were there were no signs. Won't be going back will go the seahorse over the road who welcome dogs.....

The food no probs ..... the Pizza and Chicken and Avocado Salad were fab. However its getting a bit dark and shabby now and needs a revamp.

Met friends here for a day out...pleasantly surprised...excellent service and good value....the lady who served me drinks at the bar was very polite and that goes a long way...burger was lovely...one thing though...the child's pizza..dont just throw it on a plate..it looked inedible until we put some salad with it

We where supposed to go on a walk but being prevented by rain ended up having a late breakfast instead. Sitting upstairs, the view is excellent! The service was quick even though the till screens were down. Waitress very apologetic but had no reason to be. Excellent food for reasonable price! Sat chatting, making the best of our refillable coffees.

Arrived at about tea time for a bite to eat before going to the Floral theatre. It was fairly busy, but found the tables that were not occupied were full of used crockery and glasses. It was obvious that the tables hadn't been cleared for a while as people coming in had moved dirty items from the table they wished to occupy. This is not an isolated incident as we are regulars to this place and each time we attend have to move item either to the bar or to another table already full of used crockery/ glasses. Yes it's ok for food/ drink for the price, however, am truly getting fed up of the dirty surroundings. Will be going elsewhere.

Came here on an late Friday afternoon at 4pm for a family tea - decided to give the heavily advertised within the pubs app - which promised table service without having to leave your seat - eventually placed our order - app isn’t the easiest to navigate by the way.

Regular visitor here since it opened, food is good don t know why they stopped the half roast chicken, staff all very nice and hard working, drinks were chilled, BUT the carpets and chairs were smelly and stinking , come on master mariner get the place cleaned up we sat downstairs in the corner all 12 of us , that room needs a complete cleaning smelt so bad it puts you off your food

Excellent meals for about 30 of us in a group. The one problem was that we were not allowed to book the tables.

The food is alright, its what you would expect for the price and for spoons. The service is fine. It good for a last minute meal out.

Ordered from the app and several items missing from the order and one main arrived as a starter. Very young inexperienced staff with no supervision or management evident. Not the staffs fault, poor training and poor management. Dirty tables and food all over the floor. A real hell hole when busy so best avoided at peak times.

The Master Mariner has a good location. It is not far from the Theatre. I have been here a few times before I saw a show at the Theatre.

Have to give credit to Josh who hasn’t stopped all lunchtime on the top floor. He’s been rushed of his feet and was super efficient. Food was good as always. Well done Josh 👍🏻

We visited late on a Saturday and were surprised how busy the pub was. We had a couple of drinks and enjoyed the atmosphere.

They had ran out of Pannini's (I ask you) but they offered to put the menu'd filling in a bloomer butty or toastie ..... so that was good. Still the best place in New Brighton but my gripe is still .... please open upstairs in the morning as that's where the views are. And what has happened to the mirrors in the Gents ...... 5 are missing!?

Arrived at pub at 11.45 just. Before breakfast stopped. Nice brekkie with unlimited tea/coffee. Just the job. Place was clean and staff quick with breakfast. Empty Plates were left on table a bit long although we were in a booth in a corner.

Never visited before, but was informed by a family member that the food was good. Was not disappointed, thoroughly enjoyed a late lunch after most of the day out shopping. Staff polite and helpful and served relatively quickly. I chatted to another customer that was seated near to me and she also said she had enjoyed her meal. No complaints, will be returning again.

We meet here after swimming in the New Brighton Marine Lake - good breakfast and the unlimited refills on teas and coffees are welcome as we warm up

Always have a great night, meal and staff very friendly and helpful. Recently celebrated a birthday and staff only too happy to reserve a table and service was with a big smile! Food was fresh and tasty!

Been here twice recently for food and a drink no heating on and doors wide open . Had to put my coat on to eat my food bloody ridiculous. Get the heating fixed!!

After finishing a great day out with the lads ended up last few drinks in this cheap and cheerful drinking hole got served late on the very angry bouncers/ really angry half men wanted us to drink up 1 minute later don't serve me if I don't have time to drink it customer service training desperately needed

Went for a drink on a Friday night and while myself and two friends were able to buy a drink at 00:50 on a 1 am bar the door staff became overly agressive and just after 1am continually asked us to drink up and surrounding us, perhaps they had somewhere else to be, but it was intimidating and totally un-called for.

We ate there yesterday as a family. Within 5 hours my partner and I were seriously ill with sickness and have both been ill all day with food poisoning.

Phoned Thursday morning to reserve a table for the following Saturday night, and was told yes that’s not a problem. Arrived Saturday to find no table had been reserved because they hadn’t wrote it down, no apology just ‘nothing they could do’. Really bad customer service won’t be going back!

Booked a table two hours before over the phone only to be told when we arrived they have no record and have no table for us. Managers attitude was just to walk away and ignore us.

We like to have lunch here and visited again yesterday. The Master Mariner still has a great position with views of the Mersey, typical Wetherspoons value and quality. However where we sat yesterday on velour seats near the servery was very grubby, seats covered in dried up food remnants. The area needs either a deep clean or a refurbishment, I hope that JDs does not let its standards slip.

First time visiting this Wetherspoon. Food was quick and tasty. Service was great. Tables were quite clean. No complaints. Will be back.

For a quick basic meal and a drink you can’t fault the price at all. I went for the Chicken Tikka Masala which was nice enough but the Naan bread let it down it was quite hard and not nice.
