Have been wanting visit the Three Horseshoes for some time - it was worth the wait. A mix-up that could have been serious was handled professionally. The locally-sourced tasting menu was delicious for all preferences with just the right service to maintain a pub-like atmosphere. Bottled rather than draft beer was the only disappointment, but at least it too was local. A special occasion venue for most - we will save up to return.

What a great experience. From the moment we walked through the door the staff were attentive, polite and very welcoming. The tasting menu was superb. The food was excellent, and the accompanying wine matched the various dishes. There was no menu, but this enhanced the experience as each course was a surprise, but presented and explained by the passionate staff. We went to celebrate a birthday and it did not disappoint. We have already recommended it to our friends. Thank you The Mash Inn.

We had visited the Mash Inn previously. Our next visit was a gift, using a voucher which was intended to cover the cost of the meal and wine, according to the price shown on the website for the tasting menu. Unfortunately we ended up paying nearly as much again because they said the price was different on a Friday evening. This was NOT made clear in any way on the website, nor by any member of staff during contact for the booking or during the evening. We attempted to recover some of the cost and a protracted exchange took place between ourselves and the owner -who was exceedingly unpleasant - and who resolutely refused to acknowledge the problem. In the end, a gift card was offered, but it was not for the full amount we had paid. We were prepared to accept a cash refund of this amount, but the owner has always refused this. Why he thinks we would ever visit this establishment again after the very unfair, and frankly bullying attitude he displayed is beyond our comprehension. The whole thing ruined what had been a perfectly good evening, which was supposed to be a celebration, and the subsequent interaction with the owner caused us both great distress. A very sad episode indeed.

This was a fantastic dining experience. The menu has no choice aside from dietary restrictions but the food quality was superb - innovative, not over-worked, brilliant execution and superb seasoning and balance. Every dish was superb. Service fantastic - friendly, knowledgeable and great ambiance - Nick himself is a great host. Expensive on the face of it but not for this quality. No idea why it does not have a star - better by far than many of the local restaurants that do

Fantastic food. My husband and I spent the night here for our wedding anniversary. We paid for a bed, breakfast, dinner package. The rooms are simple (warning no sound proofing in rooms we could hear everything) The general Service was good, food was fantastic but the only thing that put me down was that they charge a 20% service fee and also charged us for tea and coffee which I thought (wrongly) would be included in the bed breakfast and dinner offer. I paid for it with no complaint as I didn’t want to end the experience on a sour note but i wasn’t expecting that so thought I should warn other. Otherwise I had a lovely time.

This is fine dining in an old pub full of character. Hosted by the wonderful Jolly who puts you at ease from the moment you walk in. No stressing about what to choose as that decision had been made weeks in advance, we were salivating at the prospect! A short wine selection but a perfect accompaniment for the food if you are happy to take a recommendation from the experts. The snacks/amuse bouche were superb and got us off and running before the starters arrived - a celeriac and cheese custard heaven! The pork and turbot mains are to die for and the desserts are from the gods! Well done The Mash team - we will be back!

We came for a birthday dinner. It was a very relaxing experience starting an hour or two before dinner, having some wine in the cosy fire-lit bar and afterwards, just rolling upstairs to stay in a sweet and comfortable room (with a lovely slipper bath). The service was friendly and efficient. It''s great to have a succession of dishes you'd only really find in the UK with each taste something different and truly delicious. My only disappointment were the wine prices - the wine we had was good and also a bit different, with choices from Germany, Oregon and Austria. But please find some slightly less expensive choices. And it wouldn't hurt to have a printed menu so that we have a clearer idea of the interesting ingredients to come (and which were homegrown) and could select wines accordingly. Breakfast the next day was also very good. The inn is located in a particularly beautiful part of Buckinghamshire. The charming St Mary's Church is worth a visit.

Best to arrive a little early to enjoy a drink in the bar or outside. There is an outside wood burner, which adds to the atmosphere. The food includes some great ingredients and combinations in a unfussy manner. We were very contented by the time pudding came. The local Eau de Vie is also a real treat. We will certainly be back.

We stayed overnight in the Snug room in July 2021. The room itself was, as described, snug but had everything we needed and considering it was a one night stay with dinner taking up the entire evening the size wasn't an issue at all.The dinner itself was fantastic - from pre dinner drinks on the hillside terrace (accompanied by some delicious snacks, I've been trying to recreate the nuts since to no avail!) And then onto dinner under the beautiful canopy, which felt both atmospheric and unique. Blankets also supplied for when it gets chilly! The dishes were interesting, unusual, well thought out and not too finicky (as can sometimes be the case with fine dining where it can be style over substance) but most of all, delicious. The truffle and cheese pizette was to die for and the pork tacos brought a real sense of fun and something different as a DIY break inbetween the many courses of beautiful and delicious food. The service was also fantastic, with our host recommending an array of delicious drinks to accompany the meal (and never just automatically the most expensive!) And we had such a fun evening.Breakfast the following day was also a feast (not that we needed it really after such an incredible and extensive evening meal!), Everything was homemade and served in a gorgeous picnic basket. It certainly wasn't cheap but having eaten at many disappointing and overpriced Londo restaurants, this felt like a breath of fresh air and really memorable. Can't wait to visit again!

Had a family meal here and was very disappointed. The location and restaurant itself are lovely but the food was very average and in some cases - bizarre! Two courses had these strange ‘lockdown’ pickled vegetables which were frankly, horrible. Then there was a bowl of sweet corn with a few mushrooms chucked on top?! Seriously I could do that myself with a can of Jolly Green giant and a few mushrooms! The main was a huge disappointment. Pork with inedible hot sauces and a few tiny wrap things that were like this cardboard! The only courses that were ok were the garlic bread with cheese and truffles and the pudding. Other than that a thorough disappointment and a total waste of a hell of a lot of money! Never again!

We came today for Saturday lunch, and we were delighted at the overall experience. The food itself was fantastic - the perfect combination of experimental/unusual dishes to start, all of which were pleasantly surprising (particularly the smoked watermelon). To follow we had some variations of more classic dishes - such as the leek with ‘bog butter’ hollandaise which was accompanied by a fun and interesting explanation by the delightful waiting staff. The scallop and rainbow trout ceviche was my personal favourite, a special for lunchtime! Despite feeling slightly full for dessert we made room for the pineapple bao buns, the pineapple apparently a signature for the Mash, and it was definitely worth it! The drinks were fantastic and our waitresses (alongside the owner Nick) were all fabulous and really made us feel comfortable, as well as being extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

We were so excited to eat and stay for a very , very special first joint birthday celebration.BUT SADLY No room on the terrace for a drink, despite being directed there. A hasty two dining room chairs were put on a slope in the sun and as our drinks, amuse bouche and snack arrived we were struggling without a table. Then a meagre and at times very poor succession of food. The main event - pulled pork with very ugly and overpowering tacos was awful. The wine, though expensive was delicious, the young team of waiters/waitresses were polite and knowledgeable. The room was rustic but comfortable. Breakfast -weird in the room- go downstairs- we felt this was discouraged but wished we had been assertive. No tray and awkward food to eat in the bedroom we were crestfallen to see couples eating at a table when we left.I love the concept of eating foraged, home grown and different food. But this was woefully disappointing and I expect to feel replete after an expensive meal

Our first visit to this lovely country inn, and we were very impressed. They are only open 3 nights a week Thurs- Sat plus lunch on Sat too.We booked at relatively short notice, perhaps 10 days in advance only availability was a table for 1900hrs, which is actually earlier than we would normally dine. You are offered to arrive around 1800hrs for pre dinner drinks & nibbles, The views are stunning, and we were shown to the garden area where there was outside seating. Due to the pandemic the restaurant had erected a large and very stylish tent for outside dinning, it was lovely and they have made such an effort to make it so pretty, welcoming and comfortable, with sheepskin's on the chairs & blanket for comfort should it get chilly .Basically the service is for the whole restaurant (approx 32 covers) and is based on a tasting menu, with obvious variations catering for likes/dietary requirements etc. Each course was interesting, beautifully presented and simply delicious. There were several flavours/tastes which were new to us and we thoroughly enjoyed them. There is a good if somewhat limited wine list, but it has some unusual and very delightful wines. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, welcoming & efficient. The seating was well spaced and there was hand sanitiser available on all tables. Many thanks for a lovely evening, we shall definitely return, and hope to see the inside of the inn and the open wood burning stove once the Covid restrictions are fully lifted and the restaurant will reopen it's doors properly.

First of all, I cannot detract from a perfectly lovey evening in a cosy setting. However, given the hype and price tag that comes with the MASH I simply expected a whole lot more. I was left feeling underwhelmed by all of the dishes, unsatisfied and frankly unimpressed- the only one worthy of note was the bar snack style fried beef tendon- but being frank it was just a fancy bar snack. The pudding - a lemon sponge in custard - was reminiscent of a bad school dinner. Finally the wine - the best bit - was very overpriced at £60+ a bottle at the lower to medium priced on their list. Service was fine, marked down by constant interruptions which meant you could never actually enjoy any atmosphere. I liked it, but won’t be eating here again, even if someone else paid.

Fist of all it wasn’t all bad - some of the food was amazing (radish in hay mayo especially) and the staff were polite but bearing in mind the room was just under £500 (dinner bed and breakfast) and the reviews have been amazing, I expected a little piece of perfection. The toilet in the restaurant was unfinished, no lock on the door and dirty. The main course was a flaccid piece of chicken with soggy underdone skin and the pudding was a lemon muffin in custard. The sheets didn’t fit the bed and were raggedy. Just poor for the hype, and when I mentioned it at check out was told I’ll pass it on. It’s hard to complain as everyone eats the same thing at the same time and you are in a small hushed dinning room. Maybe Covid has been unkind to them, 10pm last orders and no tv. But it was overpriced and over hyped and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Marked as a Pub by the O.S. and named as an 'Inn', it is neither of these things at least not in the traditional sense. This is a private dining restaurant with accommodation and it is no more than that. Serving no doubt delicious food and drink inside as well as a pint or a cup of tea to you dear traveler even at an empty table outside appears not currently to be within this establishments spectrum of hospitality. My advice is not to waste your time climbing three horseshoes hill to find out personally. Alternatively, Tea from a flask in the nearby and beautiful St Mary's Church yard is recommended...

We did the short menu, basically you get to choose your main only from a choice of 3, the rest just comes. They do take particular attention to ask if there is anything you don't like, and then they amend the many starters to suit. They are also so accommodating that when one of our party didn't actually like one of the provided courses and looked across enviously at the alternative which I was enjoying, so they just picked hers up and brought the the alternative, no fuss. And what food, an adventure, delicious. Not cheap, but you walk out feeling you had an experience in old fashioned British food with the best ingredients and actually that was value for money. They do have a strict policy on under 16's, ie no-one under, just so that you are aware.

I’d booked a table at The Mash Inn not really knowing what to expect - Long menu/ short menu - table in the Snug, hmmm sounds different! Well we arrived to a warm greeting and welcome. The table in the Snug was great - sufficiently removed from the main restaurant to be a bit quieter but still feel the buzz of the place. We were invited to see the kitchen, food prep area and met the Chef. We chose the short menu - no less a menu than the long one - just fewer courses but even then it was full of surprises - little additions that tempted the taste buds! And a stunning wine list! What an experience - stunningly superb food - all locally produced - cooked perfectly and served by a team of engaging hosts - you really can’t describe them any other way! Loved it. My wife, 2 friends and myself walked into this place on a sunny day from a public footpath, wishing to have a civilised drink. The place is called an 'Inn' which by definition is a place where travellers can seek lodgings, food and drink. We asked a polite lady behind the desk if we could have a drink. For some reason, the proprietor came over to enquire if we had walked or driven to the premises. I’m not sure why this mattered but we advised that we had walked there. He then proceeded to tell us that his establishment was closed. This confused us because it was the middle of the afternoon and there were a number of patrons being served at tables. He then told us that there was another establishment 40 minutes away that we could go to, which confused us further because we had already walked past one 10 minutes before and it was in the opposite direction from his instructions. I’m not sure why we were given factually incorrect information. We made the assumption that he did not want our custom. Perhaps if the Mash Inn wants to be an exclusive bookings establishment, there should be a sign at the door to prevent embarrassment to those wishing to spend their money. Reading other reviews, it appears that others have had similar experiences.

Nice meet and greet from the owner, quick look at the kitchen and we were sat down..... only choice on a Saturday evening was the long or short menu.... we went long but I think the short was the better option as I walked past someone having fillet steak on the way back from the loo and it looked great...... we had a selection of mini portions on scratchy plates thinking we were going to get a decent look at what the chef could do with a whole plate of food - it never happened! The wine was over priced.... I was in Salzburg two weeks ago and the same white wine in a decent restaurant was a quarter of the price! The second best red on the list (which a friend had recommended) was thin and not worth the £60+ a bottle! The waiting staff were very good but overall the food was way too salty (and I like seasoning) and mostly burnt, lack of veg apart from the appetisers and complete lack of choice. We were really looking forward to this treat ( it is very expensive for outside London) and were so disappointed.

We were very excited to be checking out this restaurant as we had heard so much about it. I am trying to make some allowances for the fact the restaurant was full but that said our experience was very mixed. We had the set menu the food was very nicely presented but on the whole could have been hotter, every hot dish from the soup through to the steak was lukewarm at best, this certainly impacted the main course. The star of the event was the desert bun, and was actually hot! The service started off very well but as the evening wore on it was a matter of trying to grab someone as they went past, the bill came quick enough and as per the other high end eateries around the area is a significant dent in the wallet... though I do feel the others justify with the quality of cooking.

My partner and I had dinner and stayed overnight for my birthday - what a special experience to treasure in the memory bank! Friendly staff - the barman is Jolly by name, jolly by nature and they know their stuff. Started the evening with one of their gin infusions which was delicious. We chose the long menu (so no decisions to be made over what to eat!) and each course delighted the taste buds as well as intriguing the eye. I couldnt believe it could all be done in the cooking area, which is fully visible and includes a fire pit constantly burning. The use of their own grown vegetables, herbs etc adds to the attraction. 12 courses, so cant begin to list, but stand out for me was the spiced pumpkin soup - amazing. Even for breakfast everything was homemade, even the turmeric and ginger beer served in place of juice.

My husband and I are on a mission to discover gastro pubs with rooms that are accessible from London. The Mash Inn is in our top 3 (out of 14). Food was simply delicious (favourites being the artichoke soup, the duck parfait, the beef with cabbage, sake). And we felt so welcomed by every member of the charming staff. Our garden room was small but overlooked the pond with ducks. We had a fantastic stay - and would return and highly recommend! P.s. Thanks for the special treatment at the “chef’s table” (aka the library table).

A very special experience for many reasons. Firstly the location which offers magnificent views over wooded areas - a family of Red Kites soared over us in the late afternoon sun a s we slowly sipped the exquisite G & Ts. The rooms all individually furnished with subtle finishes that delight. The resturaunt setting with the trifold doors seemingly opening the whole of the side of the building and offering an opne view of the naked flames of the kitchen. The incomparable Nick Mash who explained to us why he had created a formula for people like us.....and then of course the food, as ggod as it gets!

This restaurant had been highly recommended to us so we chose to visit to celebrate my husbands Birthday. We had the tasting menu and it was very disappointing. The food was either over-salted or not seasoned at all. We have experienced many tasting menus but this was to the extreme. We left feeling like we had had 12 mouthfuls at the most. There was no bread on offer to fill us up either. The service was slow and not at all proactive. We had to wait 15 minutes just to ask for our bill, despite trying to get the attention of the waiters several times. The maitre d' was completely preoccupied with one table for our entire meal which made it very hard to get any service. As it was a celebration I informed the restaurant on booking, and then when they called to confirm our booking the day before our visit, they confirmed that it was a celebratory visit for my husbands visit. However, at no point during our visit did they acknowledge his Birthday. I thought that this was a real shame and a missed opportunity to improve our experience. Once we finally got tired of waiting for our £300+ bill we went to the bar to pay. Once we had paid there was no 'goodnight, we hope you had a lovely evening' There was nothing. We left feeling let down and that the 'hype' surrounding this restaurant was completely unwarranted.

Heard a lot about this place and yes it’s as good as people say, very nice local produce cooked perfectly, nice venue tucked away in the middle of nowhere. Not far from us so we went for lunch and enjoyed the tasting menu, friendly staff along with the passionate owner was welcoming. Would we return yes, however dropped half a star as £285 for lunch with a bottle of wine makes this a Michelin star price bracketed place matching London fine dining such as the Core, Arros QD, Sabor, Ledbury etc. Yes will be back, but not on a weekly basis as priced for that special occasion destination. Great food, nice location, higher end costs. Nice place.

I’m lost for words! The ambiance, the food , the wine and not forgetting the staff all played their part in making lunch probably, (actually there is no probability) it was was certainly the best experience in a restaurant I have ever had. The dishes that came from the kitchen were an experience, each and every one. I’d try and put them into words but there aren’t enough adjectives in my vocabulary. Let’s just leave it there. To top it off we were staying locally, so a stroll down the hill was swiftly followed by a snooze on the lawn in the afternoon sun. Thanks you all at the Mash Inn, happy days.

The front of house host was helpful and kindly suggested the best option on the menu for us. When the food arrived it was simple but delicious. I loved the 'snacks' that you receive at the start of the meal, it was such a lovely surprise and addition to the meal. Yes it is a bit more on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for! Wife's birthday with some friends and having moved into the village thought it was time to try out The Mash. The welcome was warm and friendly, albeit not all of the staff were quite as friendly as the others, however, overall it was all very professional, unobtrusive and attentive. The food was superb - lobster outstanding, lamb was very good, tomato consomme amazing, followed by nightmare inducing cheeses - we were on the cusp of being moved when we finally finished drinks, good and varied wine list, supported by one of the local breweries for the beer drinker, as they were setting up for evening service around 5pm .. which is fair enough. Something this good is never going to be cheap, but in our minds was good value for a superb afternoon.

Its hard to find a restaurant where everything works as it should - great food, fantastic service, convivial ambience - The Mash Inn has it all (Sunday lunch) - It transcends fine dinning creating a unique and magical experience for those fortunate enough to have booked a table at this remarkable eatery - The service is consistently superb, the art of being utterly professional while as casual and easy going as a sunday afternoon should be. There are surprises afoot with the minimal menu "snacks" were a series of delightful mini courses combining seasonal freshness and stunningly complementary flavours, the main courses were similarly superb. All in all a sublime culinary experience - Not cheap but worth every penny! Thats not something you get to say everyday of the week and certainly not on a Sunday.

Pretentious rude landlord with nothing but contempt for ordinary people. Had a furious row as refused to be treated like a second class citizen. Just popped in for a post walk pint but met with rude disinterested staff, then told to go through the front door and around to garden despite fact we came through the restaurant being completely empty. If you want to be a posh restaurant or yoga retreat fine but take down the pub sign and gate it. Deserves to go bankrupt but the landlord clearly a trustafarian so no doubt he will be bailed out anyway.

We had waited for a long while to be able to eat at the Mash Inn since seeing an article on it in good Food magazine. The wait was well worth it as we were treated to some wonderfully cooked food from a short but well thought out Daily Menu. They catered perfectly for one member of the party who doesn't each radish, providing a lovely, freshly picked, salad as a replacement. The Monkfish and Suffolk Cross Lamb, that we had as main courses were very tasty especially as they had been cooked over the wood fire. A perfect all-round experience that we would gladly recommend to anyone and it won't be long before we return.

The set menu was limited but its what we would have chosen so we were happy. For £25 per head plus drinks was a steal, good portions, great cooking, friendly and supportive staff it was heaven and no rush to push us out as its also a hotel. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, the chairs for once were comfortable. We had a 45 min drive to get there but we shall go again, I can't believe its not fully booked across all sessions. Very relaxing place to spend time with friends, overlooking adjacent farmland, if you haven't been you are missing out.

I booked a table for two for Saturday lunch and had requested a lobster; when I arrived I was greeted by the patron Nick Mash only to be told that I had no reservation and they had just sold out of lobster. His partner Hanna pointed that I had booked for the following Wednesday my fault not theirs. Nick Mash pressed a complimentary glass into my hand take a seat in the small bar by the woodburner and I will seat as soon as possible. He did find us a table in this busy place. We kicked off with a few slices on Magalitza ham with a Gewurztraminer from the Alto Adige followed by some home made Burrata pickled Ramonesco and raw rape seed oil and a delicious chicken liver pate with yarrow an cucumber, which was as light as a feather. Then we had the Rotherfield venison with smoked aubergine and a marinated cod, sunflower and salty fingers washed down with an excellent red from Puglia side orders were duck fat chips hispi cabbage and a garden salad with cows curd locally. most of the cooking is done on a large old fashioned charcoal grill. we finished off with a grilled quince and almond tart and an apple crumbIe with local cream. a truly delicious lunch. They also have would describe the décor as contemporary rustic. The patron has had the special table and chairs made that are very attractive but also comfortable. The Mash Inn has rooms and views of the pretty valley in the hear of the Chilterns an area of outstanding natural beauty.
