The Marlborough Arms in Cheshire West and Chester

Proper old school pub,big wood tables,great atmosphere.

The things I like about this pub is that it's quiet. I've been coming here on and off for twenty years or so and it has all the right ingredients for a nice pint. They have a good selection of beers, the barman is always friendly and there's comfy chairs to sit. This pub has changed a little bit over the years as the interior keeps changing a little bit each time I come. It's a bit of a challenge to see what's different. Look out for the notice board outside before you come inside, there's always a gem of wisdom chalked on the board.

Been here a few times but put off going again as we Waited at the bar to be served by 1 of the 2 barmen that were drying glasses and a group of guys came in after us and 1 of the barmen immediately serves them, when I ask what is that all about and we were waiting first the other barman responds with "you get served when you get served" , what a crappy attitude, we just left saying forget it then and even the doorman who had seen this said sorry about that.

Good boozer with good selection beers and good service

I think if I found myself sozzled and falling out of a place like this at 4 in the morning then I would seriously question my life choices. It seems pretty flimsy to justify an extension on the grounds of serving those in the service sector who work unsociable hours. But hey, maybe it's this kind of drinking that's behind the current government's looking again, at the whole question of licencing hours. Not before time.

Visit quite often, definitely our favourite pub for a shopping drink.

The title name here doesn't quite tie-in with what is to be found on the pub's sign outside. This deliberate error is no reflection of a great little pub on the outside that is not so little when you enter. Perhaps it should be known as the Tardis Arms.

Mostly a industry location. Open till late. Bit expensive though.

Sells the Stonehouse range of beers. Quirky olde world pub. Great if you like something a bit different. Seem to have trouble deciding how to spell the name. Says Marlbororough on some of the signage outside. They don't do food so it's drinks only here in a convivial atmosphere where the conversation flows.

Quick cheeky pint here LGBT , was fine in here as a trans person .

It was a quiet bar on a Friday afternoon, I imagine it gets busier later on in the evening, cosy enough pub with some good music playing at a volume that does not intrude on conversation, situated in the city centre so convenient if your staying in a local hotel.

Watched a fantastic lady tonight singing for 2 hours. Wow. Thankyou.

Most judgemental bouncer I’ve come across! Two nights in a row. “We’re shut” but still let others in! If you’re someone “normal” don’t come here! Never judge a book by its cover!

Good pub for a pint and something to eat. We was looking forward to the cask ales but only 1 out of 5/6 was on which was disappointing. Well worth a visit in.

Great little atmospheric pub just off one of the main shopping streets in Chester. Dog and child friendly, certainly during the afternoon.

Good old pub in Chester with a banging playlist (if you like Ozzy, Pink Floyd, etc). Reasonable prices, nice vibe. We'd go back.

Very rude barman....only had a couple of drinks and we left. First time visiting Chester and loved the place, this pub let Chester down. 👎

Great little city centre pub right off the main drag. Enjoyed a couple of real ales in a cozy atmosphere listening to a decent music mix at just the right volume. It was busy when we arrived but most of the people left for the horse racing that was taking place that afternoon. All in all an enjoyable visit .

Always Welcoming. Best pints In Chester. One of the last bars where you can just talk to people. Update 2023* I was not allowed in because I don't work in Chester anymore (regardless of the fact I work in a pub), the doorman asked to see my payslip, which could well be illegal as there is sensitive private information on my payslip. Very disappointed. Such a sad downfall for a good place.

Not very clean stuffing coming out of sofa smell was terrible toilets disgusting staff fine had to come out before finishing our drinks ppl were walking in and straight back out needs improvement wouldn't go back again

Cozy pub plenty choice of ale on tap and open till 4am. I like it !

Don't let the cosy/ small size fool you. Gets really busy towards midnight and limited patrons are allowed in. Once you're in though, the music and the beers hit you like no place else! Always had a lovely time here whether with my mates or office colleagues. Fun fact: only pub in Chester with a historically incorrect spelling name... Let me know in the comments if you spot it? 😂 Blew my mind too!

Yeses itit wasas alriright inin thethe Marlbororough. Me and my crew needed somewhere Q to talk business. Didn't want to bump into too many posers, quasi posh people or old fuddy duddies. This fitted the bill nicely.

My go to bar if I go out for drinks. The Marlborough Arms has a great atmosphere, excellent staff, quality music and most importantly a large and high quality selection of drinks

Cask ales from Stonehouse brewery are on the pumps here. I would say that I popped in on a Saturday night when there was a lul in trade. No food on offer here apart from the normal crisps etc. Large television takes up the focal point. Good beer, obviously from a well kept cellar.

Amazing pub around Chester City centre. Was introduced by some bloke and came here. Open till 4am as well. Recommend here and its definitely a place I'll visit again

Too expensive even for a city centre pub. £8 for a pint beer and half a coke. Poor choice of ale.

Bloody good selection of top class Whisky.

Was just passing, whilst on a trip to Chester. Never seen this place or heard about it. The guy that served us was very friendly, he even gave my wife of a draught cider that she'd never heard of to see if she liked it. I had a porter, brewed locally, and I was mightily impressed. I'm normally a Guinness man, but this was very nice. Would I call in again, yes on another trip, would definitely recommend it to a local.

A little oasis in a very hot city a cold pint then onward to get bus back to hotel and cool off.

Hidden gem, looks not much from the outside, but inside is cosy, friendly and they let you get artistic on the tables

I always visit here when in Chester. Had an excellent IPA. Good atmosphere and nothing is a bother for friendly staff. Love the historic building and the rustic-look. So worth a visit.
