We cannot praise this restaurant enough. The flavours of the sauces, the quality of ingredients and the panache of the cooking was epic….we are in a quiet and beautiful part of the world and yet, after a fabulous walk, are able to enjoy such high quality food. Do please visit it will blow your mind and taste buds!

Camped here about 8 years ago so booked again. Such a shame the 'pub' (now Indian restaurant) wasn't open on a Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday ( tried checking on websites and social media which was very confusing - closed but footnote said open Tuesday - Sunday in peak season or open Friday -Saturday?) Campsite was fine once we found where to pitch our tent as the Map was hidden in an overgrown bush. The facilties were lacking any cleanliness or maintenance. Two showers one of which was out of order. The other could have done with a good scrub and the drain being cleared as I ended up standing in 3inches of water but good powerful shower. No toilet rolls just empty rolls and the 'lady bins' were full to the brim so the smell was awful! Good points were that they had an electic plug so that you could charge a phone or use your hair dryer. If it was maintained better it would be great. Shame the traditional pub has gone but we were looking forward to an Indian meal which was a shame too.

We noticed when looking on our check in email that the site was expecting us to just pitch up next to the dustbins at the back of the carpark as a 'non electric hardstanding'. This meant our 2 year old daughter would have free access to run straight into the main road as there was nothing but a 2ft grass bank to separate. Thankfully after trying a few times we got through to the manager/owner who said shed talk to clemmie who sorted the pitches and move us onto the main part of the site. Told us to park up where was empty and theyd call later to allocate a spot. Got told to go on pitch 1 and to pay to upgrade when the bar opened. Set everything up to then be told clemmie hadnt checked properly and that we would need to move to the grass opposite as the hard standings were booked. Not a problem as it was us who had booked the car park. Silly us for thinking you couldn't class the space next to the road and bins as a pitch. We got set up for the 3rd time, had a good evening. Then went to bed and noticed the electricity had tripped and turned the fridge and everything in the caravan off. Husband looked and there were live wires exposed from the electrical hook up, literally could touch the copper inside. Hence why the bag for life was drapped over it. This hook up was tripping every 5 minutes so come the morning we had to join a few hook ups together and use a socket across the other side of the site, even the one next to us was broken and just a few cables taped together in a tesco bag. Cant believe they actually made us pay extra for electricity that wast safe and wouldn't stay on! Move on to the facilities... have to walk past a big pile of junk and old racking no doubt full of rats. Only one mouldy shower works and that has rusted screws in the switches and the locks hanging off. The toilets, shared with the pub were left with no toilet roll for over a day, the hair dryer pipe has melted away and nothing has been pat tested in over 12 years. The waste disposal was just a toilet bottom concreted in to a lean to with a short hose pipe which was just left dangling in the pan. No soap, sanitiser and tap to wash your hands with after unless you go back inside the pub toilets. As for the hosts, they are no where to be seen so the site os basically a free for all and when we spoke to clemmie in the pub to pay for the hook up before we knew it was broken she was very rude and clearly didnt want to be there to the point we heard her shouting at another bar tender for asking her to come and help us. The location was perfect for walks but absolutely ruined by the horror show of a site. I dont see how the council havent shut this place down.

I have long been disappointed with the quality of the Indian food available in Hereford, which tend to feature just the standard dishes. You know the ones: tikka masala, bhuna, madras, korma etc. I recall eating at one place were the four of us ordered different dishes and when the arrived found they were virtually identical in flavour and colour. So I was very interested when a friend recommended the Marlbank Inn, which claims to specialise in authentic Indian street food, and had to give it a try. Booking on line, using their web site, was quick and easy, with the system returning with confirmation emails. The place is pretty unassuming and the dining area very basic with no frills or pretensions. The floors were uncarpeted, and so all the hard sound reflecting surfaces meant that can be quite noisy. It was in some ways reassuring that the menu was quite short. To be honest, I didn't count, but guess there were half a dozen different starters and about eight mains. There was also a "specials" menu with another four dishes on it. As a vegetarian, therefore, the choice was a bit limited, but my wife an I shared the two main vege starters: leaf pakora, with two dips and a chaat dish with three hard round biscuits with a savoury topping. These were both delicious and a long way from what you might get in your typical Indian restaurant. For our main course we had a paneer jalfrezi, a vege "sizzler" dish (one or the specials) and a tarka dahl, with a nan bread and pulao rice. I would have preferred plain boiled rice, but they don't offer that. Neither do they offer poppadums. The pulao rice, thankfully, was a lot less oily than I've had elsewhere. The nan bread was served cut into diamond shapes and did not appear to have been freshly made, but was OK. The jalfrezi was delicious with a tremendous depth of subtle flavours, although slightly over-salted for my taste. There was little texture in the sauce as I guess all the ingredients had been blitzed together. The dahl was OK. The star of the meal was undoubtedly the "sizzler", which consisted of a large very hot plate with a huge selection of vegetables stir-fried in a spicy sauce all sizzling away on the table. The plate had aubergine, peppers, cauliflower and probably other vegetables too. The flavours and textures were perfect and delicious. Highly recommended. The table service was very friendly and efficient. Because of the limited menu, I asked how often it was changed and told this usually every three months or so. I like the idea of a limited menu and very high quality food, but would like it to be changed more frequently so that when I come back (which I surely will!) I don't have to eat the same food again. To summarise, a delicious meal, well served in fairly basic surroundings. Not the Marlbank's fault, of course, but the meal was marred a little by a very noisy group on the next table, including a voluble gentleman whose voice from 12 feet away was far louder than my wife's only three feet away!

I have always said that when a restraunt doesn't have a vast menu what is served is so much better quality. Our friends who are regulars chose curry which they said was and certainly looked delicious. My husband and I had the Mixed Tandori platter. I only ever choose tandori or tikka because I prefer food without sauce so I consider myself a bit of an expert in this field. Hand on heart I honestly can say I have never tasted better. Lovely selection of quality meat, every item cooked to perfection. I never usually eat the shishkebab but this was delicious. The cost was extremely reasonable and the staff couldnt have been more friendly. Thank you. We look forward to returning.

Stayed in the restaurant's camp ground overnight in our camper van. The food was superb, we had lamb rolls, chicken chettinad madras and lamb "estew". Found the place a little confusing, it says it's a country pub but it's an Indian restaurant. It also seems to have three names The Marlbank, Pandeli and Shak. For campers there's two hot showers in basic but clean and perfectly decent shower rooms and ECU is available

Didn’t get off to the best of starts… I had booked 5pm instead of 6pm.. luckily the lady still found us a table and was lovely. That smell of top notch food hits you as soon as you are seated. We thought we were in for something good but it was so much better than good, complimented by lovely staff. We had to try starters based on the aroma that hit us so we went for XO Chicken, Tandoori King Prawns and Lamb Rolls. Lamb rolls were a wee bit hot for me but the XO Chicken and Juicy King Prawns were divine. Our mains 2 of us had the keralan lamb curry. Lamb full of flavour and so succulent, no gristle just brilliant served with a hypnotic coconut sauce. My mouth is still dancing. Plus Coconut King Prawns which were plentiful and juicy. Just as it can’t get any better we had the best black truffle naan. Finished off with smiles from the staff, they looked after us and kept our drinks topped up. We weren’t rushed at all and had a wonderful time here

We’ve just eaten the takeaway Indian food from The Marlbank Inn and it is hands down the most delicious Indian food either of us have ever eaten, absolutely everything was perfect, Old Delhi Makhani Chicken was flavourful with wonderful depth and incredible silky sauce, the Lamb Rogan Josh was soft, melty and utterly divine, soft naans, gorgeous crisp fries, tasty lamb kebabs with salad and perfectly cooked Pillau rice, all beautifully cooked, if anybody has given this food a low rating I suspect some local sour grapes, this food is OUTSTANDING.

Great communication from the site from the initial enquiry, very helpful staff. Nice little site with all expected facilities. Ground a little waterlogged, however to be expected in February. The restaurant is highly recommended, with some more unusual choices on the menu. Decent ale on...

Really amazing food, great place! Highly recommend. Lovely staff and will definitely be back. Only negative was that it was cold in there, but other than that a great experience.

It's been a few years since our last visit and the interior has changed. But the service and food was great even though I'm not a spicy food lover. We camped in vans on the site next door to the pub, electric hook ups and...

Great spot for camper vans. With shower facilities that are great. The service is lovely and the food here is unsurpassed. Many thanks to Connie and Joe who made us feel welcome.

Exceptional food and service. I booked the Marlbank for 7 people on a Friday night. I had looked into the history on the website and being Indian myself don’t tend to eat out at Indian restaurants (for fear they don’t do the food justice) however...

Lovely stay with friends in our Camper Vans. We walked from the door up the hills to find spectacular views. We enjoyed 2 delicious meals with very good service (Joe deserves a mention!). Would highly recommend and hope to return.

I visited The Marlbank pub one Wednesday evening, where I met up with a good friend to enjoy one of their excellent curries, plus a couple of beers/ciders. Before ordering, I thought I’d ask a member of staff which curry was the most spicy on...

Saw this place advertised on Facebook. Trip advisor reviews were very promising therefore booked for myself and husband. What a disappointing meal. Starters were I’d describe as messy. I ordered the special chicken dish as my main. First mouthful I had to spit it out...

Was so excited to visit here from reading others reviews, even local food bloggers recommended it.. Unfortunately found it to be below average, and (I’m comparing to dishoom/mowgli/bhoomi kitchen not the local curry house) the chicken makhani tasted like a tin of tomato soup, whether...

Great food and staff! We went for Sunday lunch! Roast beef dinner was delicious, followed by the lovely desserts! All very good!

The menu was poor, their had been no changes since we stayed last year. My husband ordered the risotto, he didn't expect to have to pull sticks of heards out of his meal.

Checking out what would be local during the week with my son. Fabulous reception by owner, great pub for a drink! Actually quite refreshing to have a pub that just sells drinks too for a change! All the customers were in good spirits, hopefully will be my local, just have to keep fingers crossed!

After having a lovely roast at the kings head we sat in their garden having a drink. Really unprofessionally the manager came over from the star inn and asked us to join them because ‘the drinks are cheaper’ Maybe but the live music is awful and your pub is empty - we now know why. So rude. Really unprofessional and an awful attitude to have towards another local business Absolutely no business coming from our large group who would have happily spent money behind the bar.

Came for a family Sunday roast. The beef was to die for, as was the rest! Staff really friendly, all in all a lovely chilled atmosphere and I would absolutely visit again!
