One of the worst places I've stayed in a long time. Incredibly noisy! The noise from the bar downstairs was so loud in my room I may as well have been in the bar - a combination of loud music, terrible karaoke & shouting. Impossible to sleep. There were no staff members to speak to - the only ones available were very busy working at the bar. No breakfast the next day. I wouldn't stay here again.

Unfortunately a very poor second visit after a great first visit last year. We came last year and had a great meal and amazing service, coming back with hopes of a meal just as wonderful as the first. However, second time round and our food was unfortunately overcooked, dry and cold.

A one night stay, we upgraded the room size and for £85 one night stay it was good value. Staff were friendly in the bar and food was decent 👌. Only things to note is they don't do breakfast but as you're in the middle of Reading it's no issue at all. My hotel feedback would be pillows are very firm, the tea and coffee shelf could do with a light and no spoons ?! No issues tho and would stay again.

A roomy venue let down by expensive drinks, unfriendly staff and a dead atmosphere. Looks great, but isn’t.

I have regularly used the market house for monthly work drinks / food and never had a problem before however, my experience yesterday was terrible. Initially called 3 times to book a month in advance with no answer or call back. Eventually booked online and was called back 3 days later to say that despite accepting the booking they couldn't do the 6 o'clock booking but could move it to 7 onwards to which I agreed. I then had a call back saying they could only hold the area for 20+ people if we paid a £100 deposit which I did. On the night we arrived and there were already people in the area to which the manager did clear people out and got the area sorted for us only to tell us 10 minutes later we had to leave (very rudely) as they had double booked the area with a Christmas party. If they had apologised and asked us nicely to move this wouldn't have been as much of a problem. We calmly protested and were told tough luck. We asked for a table downstairs instead and after some protest they then moved another group of people to make space for us on a table barely big enough for 10 people. The party they had double booked us with were 6 people who could easily have fitted on the table we were moved to. My company will not be using market house ever again due to the rudeness of the manager and poor handling of the situation. Picture attached of the area we booked 3 weeks in advance and were told to leave due to a party of 6

We held a party here in the vault for work colleagues. It was a great night and I cannot fault the food or drink. The service on the night was incredible. Special mention to Ben and the team for being so helpful and welcoming. We are looking forward to returning next year for another party!

Not great at all. Asked if the rooftop bar was open, told ‘no’ (nice sunny day). Asked what time it would, told ‘don’t know.’ Shufflepuck game thing was £15per hour to play. Pretty unwelcoming all round. The beer was cold is as good as it got.

Should have known how the evening would go when told the lift was out of order and our table was on the terrace. Food was late being served so don't see the point of having us pre-ordrer. Starters didn't come out at the same time, no sauce with chicken wings, no cutlery brought to table. Same thing with mains. A couple of people got theirs way after the rest of us had ready started. Burger came with pickle even though it was ordered without. Replacement came and was cold. Eventually the 3rd burger appeared but everyone else had already eaten so told them not to bother. If you wanted draught beers you had to walk down stairs to get them as bar upstairs doesn't do drafy. Totally ridiculous. Staff attitude was poor and really didn't seem to care. Food was average to say the least and very over priced. Would not recommend at all.

Typical hedge fund owned sh!te. When it opened, it promised craft beers, good quality drink, something appealing. Now? - no craft beers at all (“we have Estrella?!”), not a single cask beer, just cheap lager & cider. Poor aervice, staff have very clearly given up. Swerve it.

Quick check in, no working lift. Good décor in a spacious room. Very nice bathroom. Didn't like the wooden slatted window arrangement, I felt trapped, unable to open a window or see out. No breakfast but a couple of cafes nearby. Short walk from station.

Grim: Cold, noisy and uncomfortable. We booked an overnight stay at the end of January intended to leave us fresh and relaxed before a long flight from Heathrow the next day. It turned out that our room was directly over the bar where a very shouty entertainer was in action. We asked for another room but were told none was available, so we just had to wait until it ended 2230ish. Neither we nor the duty manager could make the bathroom heating work, and the "quirky" handbasin was impossible to use because the tap was fixed in a position rendering it inaccessible. The floor was so cold I rolled out two (no doubt quirky) yoga matts stashed in a corner to provide some insulation. We'd paid in advance and the dm said she'd reimburse half. But we've seen nothing yet.

Friends coming to the market house hotel in Reading uk. I have been here for more than 15 days because my house is undergoing maintenance and repairs, everything started very well, they gave us a beautiful flight and the hotel is beautiful! but then Miss Andrea manayer, and the cleaners have a more than disrespectful and disastrous character, it is a pity that such a nice hotel has such bad attention, the customer service is lousy and the hypocrisy is enormous in the service, at At first we thought it was good but it was all a lie, one sometimes thinks that the longer it stays the better it will do the service. To say that we put the do not disturb sign because we had worked until very late and at 9 in the morning, they did not knock on the door, they entered without knocking, I repeat having the do not disturb sign. Sometimes we spend up to three or four days without having room service, because we ourselves, in order not to disturb them, tell them that it is not necessary. And at the time of checkout they claim that we asked for food for the agitation and that the sighting does not have windows so it smelled of food. So it is our fault that the hotel does not have an extractor fan or a window? And if we have food, obviously there is going to be garbage and we put it in a bag so that the cleaning lady can take it away! One day in one room, the coffee maker does not work, in the other the coffee maker was not, and in the other the shower did not work and the other did not have cloths for the shower, and we did not claim anything. But Andrea and the cleaning girls tell us that we have to leave a hotel room more than clean when we haven't even complained about anything and we haven't used the cleaning service for the room. but obviously when one leaves there is garbage. And their answer in Google is a Pitti answer. Sad for the owners they have employees that cant even Accept their mitakes

A warm welcome from the doorman, which set the tone for the rest of our stay. Rooms were lovely, very nicely decorated and ‘quirky’. We were delighted to have air on on such a hot night. Lovely selection of quality tea and coffee. Large shower and fluffy towels. The bar are was great, good food and atmosphere. We would have booked into the rooftop bar if we have realised we needed to book. Good selection of drinks and food.

We stayed here for 2 nights to attend a friends wedding. We had asked prior to our trip for an early check in if possible as we had been up from 2am. We arrived in reading at 12pm and were told our room wasnt ready which was fine. We popped and got some lunch elsewhere. We came back at 2pm and purchased two drinks which were extortionately priced. The lady who served us could be described as having the personality of a dead goat. At 2.30pm we asked again if our room was ready and the staff member disappeared and came back with keys announcing to another member of staff all the rooms were ready. The other staff member checked us in. He was happy and he apologised if he was unsure of things as he was only on his third shift. He was a breath of fresh air in comparison to Miss Personality. Our room was small, perfectly immaculate with fantastic air conditioning and a nespresso machine. Downside to the room was that after a 5 minute shower the shower began to flood. We rang the number provided however there was no answer or returned call. There is bottled water available on the unmanned reception area. This was a great perk however several times we checked there was none left. On the morning we checked out again we left our luggage behind the bar until we were ready for our flight. The staff again were just lacking enthusiasm and any desire to be there. The accomodation is lovely and i would recommend a stay. Dont however expect a smile or any chit chat from the vast majority of the staff. I can only hope the new bloke sticks around to sprinkle around some happiness.

I was stunned to see how beautiful Market House is inside. I opened a bank account here in the early 1990’s and it’s unrecognisable from that visit. They’ve kept the old vault door at the back, which is a lovely touch and a nod to the history of the building. It’s a shame they didn’t give this place a more imaginative name (maybe a bank related one) as it’s often confused with a similarly named venue in a grubby warehouse on the outskirts of town. The two are worlds apart. We checked out downstairs and as it was a lovely evening, headed to the rooftop bar. Once up here, the excitement waned somewhat when the very inexperienced staff struggled to make our drinks from a complicated set of instructions. After waiting nearly 20 minutes for two drinks, they were so disgusting that we couldn’t drink them. They were supposed to be daiquiris but were more like a nasty bitter Mojito, with no sweetness or flavour at all. We took a mouthful at the bar and found them undrinkable. The girl on the bar was nice about it and gave us a partial refund, but the man who had made such a mess of producing them was snappy, telling us with a scowl and a shrug that they were meant to be like that. He was so off about it all that we left, rather than waste any more money. Other customers were, like us, just having a quiet drink straight from the office. There isn’t much atmosphere, but with drinks and service like that there never will be. I might give it a try in the future when they find their feet. For now, it’s two stars for decor and location. But none for drinks, service or fun. I hope this place improves, because I want to like it.

Fab quirky hotel. Rooms beautifully decorated, comfortable beds with plenty of space. The bathroom was wonderful, with a really powerful shower. Great base to explore the town. No parking, but a pay & display which was reasonably priced only a 5-10 minute walk.
