Great pub , fantastic range of real ales

The Food was incredible the staff are very friendly and they take good care of yourself even if you have any intolerances to food and the Atmosphere is first class it’s a must Recommended place to come for food even if you have no where else to go

Went to see my best friend Jordan, came all the way from Ireland and the vibes in this place absolutely didn't disappoint, lovely little spot and the distillation of the Geordie spirit: drink, sound people and warm atmosphere. The drink is also ridiculously cheap, but that's probably because everything in Ireland is costlier than a crypto meme coin.

Very busy pub for a weekday early evening which is something unusual for this day and age.

Paulicarus tells me that he knows a couple who are so old that they got married in South Shields in 1980! Been back many times but only been in here a couple of times. Now a real ale Mecca. Eight handpumps, seven in use on this visit. A CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2025 pub. Also regularly wins local cider pub of the year. At least 4 on offer. Pool and darts. TV's. Started on a pint of Golden Plover, a 4% golden ale from Allendale bresery. Excellent. Then a 4.4% 80 shilling pint of Heavy from Stewart brewery in Scotland. Also lovely. Then Ossett White Rat, a 4% Pale Ale. Apparently food is also excellent but too early to eat.

decided on chance to try the food in here ..the Marine doesnt look much from outside but was so suprised by the food ..the really warm welcome ..my partner had sunday roast.meat was tender and succulent..proper yorkshire pudding and mash!!!great choice of ales too.Definiteley revisit .

Great food, excellent chicken, and smoky bacon with a barbecue sauce. Really filled up the bread, I ordered chunky chips with hindsight, and I could have left out of the order. Washed down with a pint of Madri and some cracking background music. 👌

We went here for a meal after a walk on the beach. The marine had the look of a standard pub, so I was expecting standard pub grub. However the food was very tasty and the service friendly. It was a relaxing visit.

The staff are wonderful and the food is delicious. However they've taken the Full English Breakfast off the menu. Hence the 4 stars.

£6.10 for a medium glass of wine rather expensive have paid less in Newcastle

Food, brilliant, atmosphere, brilliant, real ale choice, brilliant. The owners are so friendly and you can take your dog's in too.

Went here 5 days ago there was 4 of us two if us had lamb shank whitch was absolutely disgusting 🤢 couldn't get the knife through it and the veg was cold we had to send it back so we picked something else we eventually got something else which wasn't much better after waiting a age the other couple had had finished there meal which they didn't enjoy either and had to wait for us so we were really disappointed

Pictures of Jimi Hendrix on the wall betray a connection. Chas Chandler's son owns the pub. If you're going to a restaurant on Ocean Road it's a great dropping off point.

Quite disappointed.. Went there with a friend, we waited forever, even though it was in the afternoon and the place was pretty much empty. I paid £17 for soda water and fish and chips. Really overpriced for a place like that - service was average, food wasn't the best either. I don't think we'll be going back there.

Family of four with all meals “see images” of excellent produce . Excellent service. Only issue was the £24 bottle of house wine.

Lovely roast from the Marine today. We both chose Lamb and it was all cooked perfectly. The vegetables were all fresh and plentiful. Will come again.

Had the best gluten free fish n’ chips ever, plus gluten free onion rings which were amazing! My husband had steak & ale pie & said it was the best he has ever had! The staff were so welcoming & helpful. Have just moved to the area but will certainly come here again. Apparently the choice of beers is fabulous too -according to my other half!!

First the lady who was table service was brilliant. Long brown hair. Meal, fish and chips. In a road where there is 3 chip shops this was 2 out of ten. Massive fish and chips. Alas all batter and lots of bones. Not good. Fish obviously frozen. Massive heavy metal music coming out of the kitchen. Second chance at marine today but that's it. Shame.

Reasonably priced drinks. I didn't eat so can't comment on the food. It was nice to see this place so busy. Service at the bar is slow though. Lots of staff on but not enough serving. Nice atmosphere 👌

Went to Marine this evening after reading good reviews Nice pub very busy and good atmosphere We ordered food and drink but after waiting over an hour we asked where our food was. The bar person named Jenna said we had not ordered food? I found this very confusing as I watched her put in our order for 4 people and take our table number. When I said this to her she was very defensive and more or less called me liar If she had apologised I would have understood we all make mistakes but instead she insisted we had not placed the order then after reordering she practically threw our cutlery on the table When the food arrived after over an hour and a half my Lasagne was very tasty my husband said his pastry was undercooked on his pie mince and dumplings ok but preferred this dish at Harbour Lights steak ok but all in all will not be returning due to the service I received from Jenna

Always a good selection of beers.

Didn't order food, just drinks. Was told to leave as apparently me and my friends were doing coke. None of us were on it and I personally have never done it. Really unpleasant experience, we left straight away.

Great place for drinks and ales. Food needs a little bit of work. The frozen chips were the best part of the meal.

We called in on a Monday afternoon and ordered from the menu. We had steak and ale pie and minced beef and dumplings. The food was served promptly with a smile and the portions were enormous and tasted as good as they looked, and were great value for money. We can definitely recommend The Marine and will return when back in the area. The Beers although are quite expensive.

We dropped in for a drink, and it was welcoming, with good value, and I would recommend it.

Never trued the food in this pub but from what we have seen it looks good. We always call in here for a pint or 2 before going for a curry. Propper drinking pub with good beers and largers. Well Worth a visit!

In the day this was a traditional big pub with bog standard keg ales - what a change!!! Great selection of cask ales, friendy and chatty staff, and in a busy traditional setting. What a transformation.. rate this with the Alum Ale House, and the Steamboat as a MUST go to for real ale drinkers in Sandancer land

Little cramped , or it would have had 5 stars all day long , one of best steaks I've had , not the biggest , but not most expensive either , nice for a treat

Difficult to get a seat now on a Sunday with people playing dominoes. The food is nowhere near as good as it used to be which is a shame! The few vegetables you get are bland and the chips are not real potatoes. If you like Yorkshire puddings the plate is filled with a massive one but hardly anything else! Ok selection of Beers.

Fabulous public house. Decoration and staff are congenial to a great meal or drink out. Only one fault - please change the gravy - it needs to be put on life support it’s so painfully thin and anemic - such a shame.

Excellent dog friendly park opposite Marine Park. The food is excellent, possibly the best pub burger I have ever eaten! Great value for money too. Highly recommended.

Had read reviews and put this pub on my hit list on my visit to South Shields. From the outside the Marine is a bit underwhelming which is a real shame as it nearly preventing me from going in with my 3 friends. It badly requires some tlc with a splash of paint! However it didn’t deter us and the interior is quite the opposite. A very traditional bar but immaculate inside with lovely comfortable tables and chairs. Great choice of lagers and great real ales and features regularly in the GBG. Great food and home made snacks to boot. Wine reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend

Been ages since I've been here, but thought it was canny when I went in.

My favourite place for a pint in Shields. Friendly staff, great range of cask & keg beers at a decent price. Music is good with pool/darts available.

We called in for a few drinks with friends. The staff and customers were friendly and helpful. The food looked really nice but we did not eat. We will be going back and would recommend it. Also very dog friendly.

Dog friendly and great people. Actually found a cousin there I never met before! The food is wonderful as are the people. I highly recommend it!!!

The Marine has been Pub of the Year since 2017-2023, a very good selection of Local Beer's, good Food selection, excellent Staff.

Visited today for lunch with my husband, we have to say that the fish and chips are the best we have had in a long time, would definitely recommend a visit, staff friendly and the music was good too

Visited with a friend for her birthday. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this place. Staff are friendly, chatty, polite and helpful. Had some good banter and a laugh. Service is quick, efficient and professional, all with a personal touch. Had some real ales even got a free one with the pubs loyalty card. Food was 1st class had the snacks 3 plates for £15 excellent value. Nachos were real tortillas not just Doritos with stuff on. Would highly recommend. Plus dog friendly.

We decided that we would try the Marine for tea, been in lots of times just for a beer or two before. We both chose the burgers chicken and the classic, got to say the staff were great and freindly/helpfull .My beef burger was one of the tastiest that i have had and nicely presented with chips and a salad.My wife had the chicken burger she said was very nice. We both agreed that we will come again and try something different from the menu. Also a great selection of real ales well worth a visit.

Had a hard time finding a good place that offered glutten free food for my daughter who has celiac disease. Found the Marine! Fit the bill and a real fun place! Staff was amazing.
