The Marine Hotel Restaurant in Canterbury

Beautiful window seat and view of the sea. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Very good full English and Eggs Royal and good coffee. Highly recommended.

We booked two superior rooms with balconies. One twin & one double. Lovely large rooms with great bathrooms with Super powerful showers. The view was spectacular. Wish we had been here the night before to see the Northern Lights. The hotel has a lift which was great for my parents. Our rooms were on the first floor. There is no lift to the second floor. We found a space in the car park ok, there were spaces out the front as well don’t know if there are parking restrictions. The breakfast was lovely lots of choice. The staff are lovely & can’t do enough for you especially Karen on the front desk. Would recommend this hotel & hope to stay again.

Very good food and service but being when I was leaving Was very disappointed as when i left the Duty manger Jordan told me not to bring my small Freind again when I asked which she responded you know who I mean having have work for the Marine for five year previously I found it a very bad insulate when i come in with fends as a customer I do not want VIP Treatment but more professional approach and was left with s very bad taste with me Harry Clarke

Fantastic food and great friendly service. Lovely ambience too. The food and wine was superb and came very quickly and it was a lovely meal.

Hotel in a lovely spot & had an overnight stay. Room was great, no problems at all. Breakfast however needs to be sorted out. Our waitress couldn’t have been nicer, but the food was actually served by young boys who were maybe new. Food was going to incorrect tables all over the dining room, my husband got his toast immediately, which was clearly intended for someone else as nothing else appeared for approx 15 mins. A pot of fluid arrived with the comment ‘your tea’. When I said we had ordered coffee he lifted the lid & said ‘oh yes, coffee’, but when it was poured it was so weak you couldn’t tell what it was. Fried eggs were VERY overcooked - completely solid, mushrooms were cold. Toast was cold, but all this said we made the best of it. Hopefully service issues will have been sorted out by the time we come again.

A lovely hotel in a great location. Food excellent. The rooms a good size but a bit shabby. The furniture and walls and carpets need updating. We booked a dog friendly room and there were a lot of stairs to get there, not great for someone with mobility issues.

Worst breakfast ever. One lump or two of what they called scrambled egg. One slice of toast each delivered on side plate. Coffee wasn’t hot enough. Very disappointed in the whole hotel apart from the staff.

I thought the afternoon tea here was very good, especially for the price of £20 a head (which included one pot of tea each). The atmosphere and decor are nice, the staff polite and efficient. It’s not got the panache of Claridges, but then it’s not £90 per person either.

Had heard that this was a good place to eat. Reception weak and underwhelming. Service very slow. Staff appeared disinterested. Male senior staff member no help to the waiting staff who were busy. Food mainly very basic apart from a salmon dish that was enjoyed by one of our party. Gave 3 out of 5 for the salmon dish otherwise would have given 2. Stayed on a winter overnight stay with 3 course meal and breakfast. And apart from having a job to park, and going around the block twice to find there car park, which you get to via the 2 tennis courts up a very unsuitable very deep pot holed strip of land and then finding no room to park at all. Finally parking a way away. On checking in the whole experience was very postive from then on. The lady checking us in was lovely even though she had been feeling a little unwell . Our room up on the second floor was very clean. Furnished well. And looked out to sea..the shower took a little to work out to get hot without getting to wet via the overhead shower being on straight away. Ended up using my toes to miss the cold water. Meet our friends in the bar had a little wait for our pre booked table as the previous diners had slightly overrun. This was not a problem .but i did feel the waitress tried to push us towards the breakfast area and told us a few times our table was by the toilets. We wished to wait and on seating we had a lovely round table no where near the toilets. Our waiter Jacob a young lad who i do not believe had been there very long. Was so engaging and very polite and friendly, took our orders and drinks orders and engaged each time he served us. Our meal was cooked lovely and presentation good. The choice on the menu found we all had good options covered. After our meal we had a good nights sleep. Went down for breakfast which once again the choice was very good. Our lady serving us was friendly polite and efficient. On checkout once again quick and friendly service. I would ask only for 4 English tea bags in room as only had 3 but i had peppermint tea once .otherwise an extremely pleasant stay. And location is ideal .

Absolutely awful, waited ages as assistant wasn't at the the desk to be seated, ordered our drinks which never arrived so had to ask again for them. Food...hmm my partners steak wasn't as requested completely wrong which he couldn't eat and our pre starters on table prawns never arrived....Nice environment but Absolutely ruined my birthday!

We were pleasantly surprised with the hotel it was really good. The customer service outstanding service n all areas. The location is fab, right next to the beach with parking. We only are breakfast but that was delicious. Our room was large well presented. Coffee machine and good selection of hot drinks. Great lounges to read in. Would stay there again. Very dog friendly.

Just returned from a great lunch at The Marine. Very impromptu visit. The bar staff super friendly and excellent knowledge of allergy menu. We both had the fish and chips , mine Gluten free which I must say was one of the best GF batters Ive had. Totally recommended. (It wasn’t shown on menu - but I asked what options they had and was very spoilt!) Thank you chefs! Perfect lunch visit. Will be back. Thank you

I booked the Marine as part of their winter escape deal for £150 as a surprise for my husbands birthday. Eventually found the car park down a pot holed alley and we went to reception to check in. I had stated on the reservation that it was my husbands birthday celebration and the receptionist clearly stated the price then handed me the card reader. Surely it would have been more appropriate to hand me the card reader and ask me to check the amount? All a bit awkward! We were given a flask of milk for teas and coffees as there was no fridge and we headed up to our second floor sea view room, The room was small, clean and comfortable with a lovely view of the beach. The bathroom was a bit of a disaster with the shower going hot and cold and one of the shows doors has come off its rails and was hanging precariously. The window safety catch was also broken and hanging off. The three course dinner was nice and breakfast was really good. Wait and bar staff were friendly and attentive. When we left in the morning, we were ignored by the two ladies on reception as we said goodbye and put our key in the drop off box on the reception desk. It was worth the price as part of the deal, but not at any other time.

Stayed at the Marine Hotel for 3 nights. Made reservations at local restaurants for the evening meal. After the first day at the hotel having breakfast, we decided to have dinner as well . The quality of the food and service was excellent, no need to go anywhere else!!

Booked to go with friends from North Yorkshire, was lovely as allowed dogs and even had a doggie bag when we got there and even got a sausage at breakfast! Room gorgeous and bathroom but the room was really hot! Had air con on as cold as could get it but it was still warm. Had a meal in evening and food was delicious and breakfast which is included was really good and lovely to be able to choose what you like! Been before and will definitely book again! Lovely hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay The room was clean, warm and comfortable, the food was delicious and the staff were exceptional. Everyone from reception, to bar and wait staff, to the cleaners we passed in the corridors were so friendly and helpful.

From arrival, we were impressed with the whole package. The outside was very well kept, wooden tables and heat lamps keeping guests warm in the winter breeze. Inside we were greeted by a lovely lady named Karen, who was very welcoming and helpful. We were lucky to have been upgraded to a higher room, and were not dissapointed at all. The decor was clean and tidy, the view amazing across the estury with a balcony. The bed was a king size, but had a memory foam matress, which isnt something we find comfortable, but others do, it was good quality. The bedding was well dresses and again lovely quality. The bathroom had a nice size bath and shower. Plenty of tea, coffee, buscuits and hot choc, however a lovely touch was the espresso maker, but sadly, the coffee cups were too big, and so it was a faff to use, but thats just a silly thing. Food service was amazing too, our waiter (Josh) was welcoming and very cheerful and helpful, all the staff were eagre to make us welcome. The food came timely, and was well worth it the prices. We had a burger and steak, the burger was amazing, juivy perfectly cooked, the steak wasnt the best cut, but was cooked to perfection. My wife did try the chicken escolop, but it was a tad dry for her, but staff changed it quickly and with zero fuss, very professional, and that was no reflection on the cook at all, just her image wasnt the same. Breakfast was also great, I had the full English, and my wife had eggs benedict, both were great, although the "crispy" bacon was more like leahter (a bit old) and the beans had a heat skin on them. Again great value, wonderful coffee too, but odd it coming in a teapot, as anyone who doesnt like tea will tell you, we can taste it! We had this night on a Winter Deal, £150 for 3 course evening meal, bed and breakfast for 2, so value was amazing, great for a night out. The location is quiet in the winter, if you like walking theres miles of beach paths and being dog friendly, they would love it too.

We stayed here on a winter deal - £150 for a double room, breakfast and 3 course meal - brilliant value! Our dog was made so welcome too. We left the car in the car park and walked into Whitstable - then back the other way and stopped in at a local pub for a pint. We checked and in room 30 was cute. Nice touches like the coffee machine. We enjoyed a drink from the bar and then went down for supper in the lovely orangerie. I enjoyed duck salad, seafood pasta and we took a cheese plate back to our room. The room was lovely and warm. Dogs are welcome in the restaurant and we were offered a sausage for our pooch at breakfast. We enjoyed the full English and smoked salmon with scrambled egg for breakfast all served with plentiful orange juice. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. We are working our way round the group making the most of the winter deal but we will definitely return.

We were out for walk with our friends and our dogs and as the weather was rubbish, we stopped in The Marine Hotel for a late lunch (4pm'ish). They have a lovely lounge which is dog friendly and we found a table in one of the bay windows. Whilst we could not see much due to the weather the lounge was very nice. We ordered drinks from the bar and looked over their menus. The lemonade had to go back as it tasted strange, but they swapped it out for a tonic water. Finally deciding on our food, back to the bar to order. Two roast lamb Sunday dinners, a chicken schnitzel and mushroom risotto. The roast lamb and chicken were nice, but the risotto lacked flavour. Overall, it was OK.

Stayed on 29th November 23- hotel was quiet and very gratefully got a complimentary upgrade to a sea room which was a lovely touch. Room was modern but felt incredibly homely, felt like the hotel could've charged more for how nice is was. My only peeve was that the staff presentation didn't match how nice the hotel was, felt like a nicer uniform could be provided, most team wearing scruffy trainers (again just an observation) Breakfast room was stunning and my Eggs Benedict was really tasty! Will 100% be returning if I stay in Whitstable again :)

Clean, friendly and the breakfast was out of this world. We have just booked to go back!! The view is amazing and the light in the restaurant is a joy.

It's OK, having said that a bit rundown and lacking in any real ambience. Relies on it's location which is more spectacular than the hotel. If the hotel were elsewhere it would be considered very average, possibly scruffy. Stayed the night to celebrate a family members birthday and the bed was very, very uncomfortable. The bathroom was very dated and in need of modernisation. Would I go again? No to be frank I wouldn't for a special occasion I was expecting it to be smarter than it was. The bar was a bit limited in respect of alcohol free draft beer and the service was slow. Breakfast was fine and the waitresses were excellent.

Beautiful location yet the lack lustre food ,choices way too pricey for normal pub grub. I wouldn't go back again, which was is a shame

We stayed for a Saturday night for a weekend break. Everything was lovely - staff, location, our room - we were in room 7 - breakfast was just right for us too. Thanks to the hotel and lovely team there we had such a lovely stay.

I have been a regular customer at the Marine, mainly Saturday lunch for many years. Have they changed the chef, because I had Sunday Roast a couple of weeks ago with a friend and the Sunday roast was disgusting. I was told the roast potatoes were cooked that day. They didn't even look roasted and had a terrible taste. My chicken was more bone than meat, so I sent the lot back. The potatoes were just as bad, I am sure roasted the day before. My friends Lamb was that tough I bought it home for my dog.,and she left the disgusting roast potatoes. We will never go there again for a meal, sad after all these years, but I will not pay £ 17 for a Sunday roast that was so badly cooked

We clocked this place while walking in Tankerton and decided to give it a go to have lunch. I’m very happy we did as we both loved it. Lovely food, friendly staff and great service. Whatelse can you wish for? Well, a reasonable bill offcourse 😉

Stayed in the Hotel for one night while in the area for a week. Most Excellent Full English Breakfast the following morning. Very High Quality breakfast and fantastic service while we were seated in the conservatory on nice sunny morning. A Big Thank you so much to the entire team. The evening meal of the night we booked in, not so good. However, we survived :-) Overall, a very good experience. Thank You.

My dinner was appallingly bad … chose the burger which had been heavily microwaved … couldn’t even cut it … didn’t really apologise… said bring you another one… by which time all 7 of my friends had eaten theirs… the dessert was cheese board… once again unhappy two small pieces of cheese…small not fresh grapes… way overpriced

Meet friends here for lunch today. Having only been a few weeks ago we didn't expect a different menu. 2 of us ordered the chicken breast with a mushroom sauce which i had had before and it was lovely. When the food came both pieces of chicken were undercooked. Sent them back excepting fresh to be cooked in the time we waited. However this was not the case as the same pieces returned but this time cooked of course this meant the sauce was cold and the potatoe cake hard. We didn't want to send it back again as the men had all but finished their food. We were not offered any compensation. We do eat here quite often and in the past have had to return undercooked food. The tables in the orangeare really need replacing they are very worn peeling and don't look very nice. On a positive the waiting staff were very nice. My husband and friend both enjoyed their meals .

As locals of many years we used to enjoy meeting other local friends for drinks at the Marine plus attended many events there over the years. No longer though as it does not feel welcoming as a pub but just a hotel for visitors. Made a rare visit for lunch today with an elderly friend. Lovely bar staff and menu good. My chicken Caesar salad also very good. Friend only wanted a starter - pate with sour dough. This came with one small slice of sour dough toast only. I asked if she might have a second slice - worried look between bar staff “ the kitchen don’t like it “. One further slice however brought out by ? Member of kitchen staff and dumped grudgingly on table. Well done Sheperd Neame for appealing to tourists - certainly no longer to locals.

Fantastic meal, something special abourlt this hotel. Duck first lunch, steak pie second lunch, both gorgeous Staff friendly. Accessible at rear of hotel. Sea views. Drinks overlooking the sea. Choice of where to eat we ate in the bar and conservatory. Drinks on the terrace, made a day of it.

Booked a high tea for our Aunt’s 95 birthday 🎂 Everything was well presented and she had a fabulous time. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely evening at The Marine celebrating my mother & father in-laws wedding anniversary. The manager and staff made it so special for them. Our waitress Vicky was friendly and attentive and the food was great. Would highly recommend for a special occasion.

we telephoned and said we have a vegan birthday girl ! no vegan starter no vegan pudding, well actually ice cream but the others had a yummy looking pud 😪 the thing is it’s so cheap and easy to do vegan , not even a salad , bit disappointing, i wish they had been more honest and said only vegan mains which were nothing special 😪 however staff were really lovely and very kind . my niece said nice portions 😬

Had a lovely lilunch at The Marine today. Very airy inside and menu was varied. We opted for the halloumi open sandwich and a bowl of very nice fries. Friendly staff. Nice decor. We saw that they did afternoon tea too so may check that out next time.

Often call in for breakfast. Staff friendly. They seem to have stopped doing back bacon and is now streaky bacon. I would rather pay more for a decent piece. This is just cheap. Toast on the thin side so the butter makes it soggy . eggs and everything else okay. Even abroad we get back bacon. A very British breakfast. Lovely setting.
