Went with a friend. Cafe is small but clean and tidy. Limited range of food. They need a proper coffee machine (my capacchino was very bitter). Friendly staff.

I walked out of York on the Sustrans track, which took me along the river and over Clifton Ings to Skelton. This cafe is 4 miles from town and the perfect place to stop for coffee/lunch/tea. It’s within a little garden centre. It was clean and quiet with clean toilets. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I enjoyed a large bowl of homemade soup followed by a piece of wonderful, soft, chewy marzipan and cherry flapjack. I’m wishing now I’d bought some to take home. I then felt refreshed and ready for the return walk. Or I could have bused back from Rawcliffe Park and Ride.

I have just visited this cafe and I can honestly say it was the worst value for money ever - and the staff should be sacked! I just paid £2.75 for a slice of cake so thin it was unvbelieveable. It was so laughable I took a photo and sent it to my friends! And the coffees were cold. The young girl serving was nice but obviously new, but needed help and the blond-haired woman was so miserable and unfriendly - do they not know how to be nice to customers?? No wonder this place hasn't had any good reviews for the last few years. Just a matter of time before it goes out of busines (hopefully!). Do not go here, you will only regret it, and their prices are a complete rip-off. Only £3 for a crappy sausage roll! They need new staff, some training, better portions and better value food - desperately!!!! We're in the 21st century yet there are still terrible places like this!! Please close down and do us all a favour!! This would get a zero rating if there was a 'zero' option available!

We actually weren't aware that this garden centre had a cafe, until we visited this weekend on a rainy afternoon to buy some plants. The plants by the way are really good value and good quality and we bought quite a few. After wandering around for a while making some tough decisions, we decided to have a drink and regroup. What friendly service :) the home cooked scones were fresh too. One of the ladies in the cafe whipped cream freshly for us for our scones. It's quite a large cafe, quiet when we visited and very clean. Place recommended for food and plants!

Was very extremely shocked today when I went into the garden centre to buy a present for a family member so I decided to get something to eat in the cafe, I ordered my food from the waitress who to my delight I was friends with and haven't seen for a while! The managers daughter 'helen' came over as I sat down and was very abrupt. She was very very rude towards me and the waitress.. She told me it wasn't a social event and basically didn't want me there when I was paying money to eat my lunch in their cafe. Not in my life have I ever been spoken to the way this rude individual did, I hope that she will learn the proper way to have good customer service because as a young women of 19 years old I can brush it off but not everyone can, apart from the horrible attitude of Helen the food was lovely and the garden centre has some wonderful gifts but I will not be returning until this women has left.

Upgraded our Groupon voucher to include sandwiches. Freshly prepared with plenty of fillings, we were not disappointed, and only paying £3 for the two of us. Fruit scones, butter jam and cream with my favourite ginger cake. A really nice addition to the platter is the fruit trifle, really loved this. I am pleased that after our last visit the cafe seemed to be quite busy. The staff are welcoming, working hard to make your visit pleasant and enjoyable. The garden centre is stocked with a good selection of plants, again it seemed to be busier on our visit. We will definitely be coming back, the scones and cake are really worth a try.

We visited using a groupon voucher for afternoon tea for two. We also took along a family member who ordered separately. The cafe is only small and seems to be a recent addition to the garden centre to earn extra money as it was all very quiet. The lad on the till appeared terrified and was painfully slow - it may have been his first day, at least I hope it was! The one lady doing all the cooking etc appeared efficient although it did take a long time to get the jacket potato and we had nearly finished our afternoon tea. All was presented very nicely. We ordered a cheese sandwich to share for an extra £1.50 to go alongside the tea and, although we ordered it in white bread and it came in brown, it was good to have savoury alongside the sweet items. A slice of ginger/Parkin cake (would have preferred the coffee and walnut), a fruit scone with butter, jam and fresh cream and a small trifle in a shot glass with a pot of tea was all presented on a nice wooden board. Certainly plenty for two and a good offer with the voucher. A nice garden centre/ cafe and would go in again if in the area but would not make a special journey.

Like many of the recent reviewers we went for afternoon tea recently with my parents for their birthday having found a very good offer through Living Social website.I have to admit my expectations were not high but we came away very pleasantly surprised and quite full on a Sunday afternoon. There were 6 small sandwiches each, a scone, a piece of chocolate cake and a piece of flapjack. The sandwiches were prepared fresh when we arrived and so were not sat around all day getting soggy and the cakes all seemed fresh and were mostly good, the scones were the least good and the jam was just in a small sachet but I guess that is just a small niggle. The staff were very accomodating as one of us wanted cappuccino, one earl grey tea and the other two wanted their tea after eating the sandwiches so we were not a straightforward group, all were served with a smile. The atmosphere is not the most appealing, it is nice enough but not what you would call cosy.So great value at the price we paid, not even bad value at twice the price and well worth a visit if you are passing.

Well I found this little hidden gem via a Living Social deal of afternoon tea for two for £6. Since my first visit my friends and I have visited twice more to sample their food. The afternoon tea at full price of just £6 per person is the best I've ever encountered. Sod Betty's tea room! The food is exactly as the previous reviews have stated. Presentation of the food is on a lovely wooden board. A great selection of freshly made sandwiches in both white and brown bread. We each had 2 triangles of cream cheese and cucumber, grated cheese and chuntney and ham salad (has onion so please say if you would prefer without). A huge fruit scone with jam and cream, a slice of cake...we had chocolate on two occasions and coffee and walnut on another. Also we had a piece of flapjack on two visits and a piece of rocky road on another. All washed down with a generous cup of tea or coffee. Whatever you can't finish the staff will kindly bag up for you to take home. The reviews are true. It is brilliant. If I had to critisise anything it would be that as the cafe is in a conservatory it lacks a bit of atmosphere and cosiness but don't let that put you off. They even have a small amount of toys to entertain the kids whilst you enjoy your meal and it's big enough to feel your not sat on top of the next table and you can hold a private conversation. All in all I would definitely recommend this place and will be visiting again shortly. Thank you for reading x

There were 3 different sorts of plentiful sandwiches on both white and brown bread. Then we each had a massive freshly baked scone served with butter, jam and cream. Then some delicious home made Victoria sponge, by now all 3 of us were flagging so we had to ask for our rocky road to be wrapped up to take home. We got two big pots of tea and the offer of hot water when we needed it. All this for the princely sum of £6 each. I cannot recommend it enough. The best afternoon tea to be had in York. My wife and I had a splendid afternoon tea for two which was on a special offer £6 for two. The food was nicely presented of high quality and was very tasty. There was more than enough for two persons, comprising of three rounds of sandwiches in brown or white bread as required. There was a cheese spread and cucumber, a ham salad and a cheese with red onion pickle, all were freshly made to order and were delicious. Also served on the large wooden platter were two scones with butter, jam and fresh cream, two slices of coffee and walnut cake and two slices of a chocolate and marshmallow on a biscuit base covered in dark chocolate. Again, these were delicious but we took the cakes home to eat later as there was too much for us to eat at one sitting. They were wrapped for us to take home. A large teapot of Yorkshire tea was included, providing us with two cups each. The cafe is light and pleasantly presented and the owner was attentive and courteous. We highly recommend this cafe on the basis of this meal.
