The grounds are stunning. The manor house impressive. Staff fantastic. The Manor - restaurant was great service but VERY expensive. The mains are £28 - £32 each and does not include the potatos or veg. The mains are tiny portions. The potatos £6 for a side dish

On our on time arrival we waited 11 minutes to be seen to a table, then waited 16 minutes to be asked what drinks we would like, at which time we ordered soup starters, fish for my wife and a medium rare steak for myself. We waited 16 minutes for the drinks then a further 24 minutes for the soup. On finishing the soup we waited 21 minutes for the soup dishes to be cleared then a further 32 minutes for the fish and a medium to well steak to arrive. The steak was not hot, the cooked three time chips were not cooked through, crispy but hard inside. All of the above on the bill of £99.50, including £15 for a glass of very oaky Shiraz. So, all in all I would not recommend this establishment. What was supposed to be a celebration of out 18 wedding anniversary quickly became very disappointing.

Bad service, food OK but lukewarm. No organisation after you are seated at all. We were the first guests in and still took 35 mins for the menus to be given to us and then another 30 mins for our drinks to arrive (after chasing a couple of times) which was after our mains were delivered. Staff spent more time chatting behind the bar than checking on everyone and a lot of fed up faces (guests and staff). Shame as the food would have been lovely if hot. Sticky toffee pudding had congealed before it was sent out. Very kind manager who offered to take all the service charge off but as some were working hard we left it on (it wasn’t much!) Need to get your front of house sorted out!!

This place is a beautiful old manor in incredible grounds. That’s where the positivity stops sadly. We arrived for Sunday lunch about 10 mins early for our booking at 14:15. We were told they were busy and to sit in the bar until our time(!). Went to the dining lounge to queue and then be told to wait in the bar with a complimentary drink. Eventually we were seated an hour late, then to be told (after ordering) that the starter we wanted had run out. I spoke to manager to learn what went wrong but ultimately everything was disappointing and I can’t recommend it here. Food was fine but can’t make up for the poor hospitality. For goodness sake, get a consultant in or something to sort it out.

Service terrible. Waited an hour for our starter. 45 mins later we still had our empty plates on the table, I had to ask a member of waiting staff to remove them! We were not offered a second drink so unfortunately had to make the most of the water on the table. We decided after half an hour of waiting for our desserts, we would forfeit them and leave. This was for my husband’s birthday. We will not be returning again.

So disappointed as this was an expensive treat. I would like to say that the surroundings and staff were lovely. Cauliflower soup was good. Beef Sunday lunch was dreadful. Beef was full of grisle and I could not chew it enough to swallow, so had to spit it back out on my plate. Veg were good but not enough for the two people eating. Whole plate and food was lukewarm at best. Gravy was really salty. The waitress that collect my dinner plate did ask if I enjoyed it and I told her that the beef was dreadful and I suggested that the chef try to cut it to see what he thought - no response from anyone. Sticky Toffee pudding was straight out of the fridge. Sauce was on top of the sponge and not moving because it was so cold. The waitress that collect my dinner plate did ask if I enjoyed it and I told her that the beef was dreadful and I suggested that the chef try to cut it to see what he thought - no response from anyone. The whole meal took just over 3 hours, such a long time between courses. Such a shame.

We had afternoon tea in the Manor House today. It was one of the best I’ve had for ages. Fresh sandwiches, tasty sausage roll, perfect warm fresh scones (rare these days) and the small cakes were a delight, so full of flavour. It was. Travel Zoo voucher but we will be back again without a voucher, The room and ambience was lovely too with a polite waitress.

Although we couldn’t fault our food for flavour & presentation, the helpings were small for the price paid & temp at best luke warm. The vegetables were served in dishes but with no serving spoons !! We also found it very strange that although this is a 3 course Sunday Roast, that not one of the tables was laid for 3 courses ?? When our orders were taken we both ordered the same meals, however when it came to the dessert only one arrived without a spoon to eat it with, we questioned where was the other one, only to be told there was a glitch in the ordering ? suffice to say I’d finished mine by the time my husbands came! The coffee’s that we ordered also arrived luke warm and with no sugar. On talking to a couple sitting next to us the lady had ordered the Roast pork which on the menu came with crackling however she told us & mentioned to the waiter that it was missing, but didn’t get a satisfactory answer. We saw for ourselves that previous review’s mentioned the lack of service and this clearly is something that the management have failed to address, and clearly not enough staff to cope with the numbers booked. This is such a shame as an establishment such as this, visited by many people who have in some instances travelled a long way to celebrate special occasions, but who on leaving feel disappointed & let down. Its probably pointless having written this review as it would appear that nobody is responding to them. One would expect better from an establishment such as Champneys.

Our first visit to this restaurant and overall was a good experience. It was a long trip to get there but that was our choice. We had Sunday lunch with two friends and we all thought the meal was of high quality and very enjoyable. Wine and drink prices quite high. We had a couple of small issues, one being the refusal of the staff to serve an extra portion of vegetables ( there was only two smallish dishes for four) and also no change could be given if you paid cash…” we don’t carry a float” was the explanation. We happened to bump into the Guest Service Manage and mentioned the two little niggles and she totally agreed with us that it should not have happened and would educate the staff involved. Her name was Shelby and she was a role model in how customer service should be carried out. Very pleasant and comfortable dining room created a very nice ambiance for our meal. Overall a nice day out.

Stunning location, beautiful building. The restaurant, sadly, is devoid of any character - detritus on the floor from an earlier service is totally unacceptable. The waiters trays on which they carried drinks and cutlery were grubby to say the least. A fifteen minute wait for drinks order to be taken, that despite numerous staff robotically swanning around doing very little. Interesting, but small menu. Food well presented, reasonable portions but everything tepid (I note this has been mentioned already, but obviously not yet addressed), apart from a good selection of well cooked vegetables .... which were hot. Not once were we asked is everything was top our satisfaction !!!. Upon leaving we had the pleasure of speaking to the Food & Beverage Director and were able to relay our disappointment personally. He took on board our constructive comments , already aware of some of the issues we raised .... stating that was working to address them, although I notice that this is a theme that has mentioned on this forum, but not yet yielding visible results to the paying customer. If some of these issues, particularly the co-ordination of staff, showing some personality together with related duties and hot food, then this would make a huge difference. In saying that will return later in the year to hopefully see some improvements.

Boy oh boy. The staffing in this restaurant needs a major reshuffle. Indeed perhaps almost a 100% change. For with the exception of one young lady called Jessica the rest of the team would be better in a takeaway. I really am struggling to believe the experience that my wife and I received today in what used to be a regular haunt of ours for Sunday lunch in years gone by. I keep pinching myself thinking that’s it’s all a bad dream. Shockingly filthy menus, wine lists. Bottles of water with detritus on the outsides. Finger marks and dishwasher marks. Absolutely filthy. Tables being left uncleared for periods of upto 30 minutes with visible evidence of the last guests food left on the table. A member of staff simply turning a table laden with crockery on its side allowing the tables wares to crash to the floor. Having to approach the desk having waited 20 minutes for the water ordered when sitting down. The bottle sat in the bar opened for 15 minutes. Aaperitif requested well before starters ordered and nothing fancy. Just an Aperol spritz. Arrived after duly sitting on the bar for 20 minutes , just as we were tucking into our 1st course. My Pigs cheek delicious but luke warm so). My wife’s salon was lovely. No effort what so ever made by Morgan to put in place the very basics of table control. Words further to the above fail me at this late hour. But suffice to say I will be advising my dining associates to steer well clear of Champneys Eastwell Manor , which is a shane as clearly the chef has the right idea. But £35 for Sunday lunch with this lack of service is deplorable shocking. And what makes it even worse when writing to the hotel late evening to express my concerns - not a dicky bird. Now that really does say something to me. Shocked saddened and simply lost for words. Ineffective management, inefficient processes , lack of awareness, lack of respect for guests. Lack of table hygiene And a total shambles. And no reply to my sincere email.

As a birthday treat, my son bought a combined hawk experience and afternoon tea at Eastwell Manor. Firstly, I have to say that the hawk experience was fantastic, definitely worth a visit. Afterwards we returned to Eastwell Manor for our afternoon tea, held in a small rather grand room and although the food was a little uninspiring, we were generally enjoying the occasion. Halfway through the tea, I left the room and spoke to a member of staff explaining that we had a voucher for the afternoon tea. She explained that I needed to talk to the waiting staff but I couldn’t find anyone. I left to use the toilet and when I returned my husband said that we had been presented with a bill. I returned to the foyer to try to explain about the voucher. It took about twenty minutes to resolve this issue, which ended up being discussed in front of all of the other guests having afternoon tea. It was extremely embarrassing; we were treated like we were trying to get out of paying! It completely spoilt the whole occasion and we couldn’t wait to get out of there. My son was particularly upset as he had used his Saturday job money to pay for this. When I returned home, I emailed Eastwell Manor and received a reply from Vernon (F&B Director) asking to discuss the issue further. I replied, providing my contact details and heard nothing. Very disappointed. This is not a cheap day out, the overall customer service is extremely poor. I would not recommend and won’t be returning.

Dining at The Manor was once a real treat. It had beautiful surroundings, well dressed tables with tablecloths, the full works, even a pianist in the evenings. It now looks like it is crammed to the maximum with small square tables (no cloths) lined up like a school canteen or a large Nando’s. A whole fleet of them. A service bar at the side taking up unnecessary room. The beautiful wood paneling is still there, but now hidden and trashed by the massed tables, its whole atmosphere ripped away. BUT, we thought, perhaps the food and service would recompense. I had scallops with pork belly. The ubiquitous small squares of pork with slightly warm scallops, no flavour at all. My husband had pressed foie gras (about the size of a 50p and unrecognizable as foie gras), wrapped in ‘pulled’ duck. Dry and tasteless. I didn’t dare risk lamb or beef as I guessed it would be below par for the prices and nothing I saw appealed, so for the first time in my decades of dining out, I tried the Wagyu beef burger – I know – I almost hid under the table when it arrived. But we had Wagyu steaks so… It was dreadful. No flavour to the burger and so thick and hard in places, it was difficult to cut it (be interested to know just how much of the burger was Wagyu). Skinny chips were mediocre and went stale within minutes. My husband thankfully, had something decent for his main - the hake, but again, nothing special and exorbitant at £28, but I accept fish is booming in price. The only decent thing was the 250cl glass of wine, an Australian chardonnay but then it should be, costing £15. (£9.99 a bottle at Drink Supermarket – so is that at least a £35 plus profit on each bottle?) Couldn’t find anything on the dessert menu which was worth risking another disappointment. Service was, to say the best, sketchy, slow and confused, but most were young and obviously still learning the trade so some room for understanding. We were charged for three tomato juices instead of two, corrected when pointed out, and we seemed to wait an age for plates to be taken away. A peculiar portion of three small pieces of bread for a table of two and the usual meagre portions of butter – in foil. I see no hope for this place except for people getting a DB&B deal who have no interest in good food or have more money than taste. The last time we visited before this latest incarnation of poor Eastwell was around 8 years ago. Unless a new owner takes over, we won’t be back.

I was totally disappointed and appalled by the service I received from eastwell manor. I booked an afternoon tea for 4 for my friends 30th birthday. Booked a month in advance. The morning and 3 hours before our table I called to check all was ok and was told that the reservation had been cancelled earlier in the week!! I had not been advised of this, no call or email absolutely nothing!! I had friends travelling down from London and I was totally disappointed due to the fact our event was cancelled (which I understand was due to lack of staff) with absolutely no advance notice of warning! Thank goodness I called before we travelled down. I called Chilston park who were more than accommodating even though they were fully booked the squeezed us in! Their service was impeccable and I will be returning to Chilston not eastwell, really did not expect that from a reputable hotel.

This could be a very long review as we had not been since the current owners took over, the service was almost non-existent and who on earth thought it was acceptable to have a one-page menu in tiny print that even wearing reading glasses I could not read. We sat down at 18.30 and did not finish till 21.30, there was a very limited choice of food and mine was almost none edible, the children had Pizza one of which came out burnt. Since they have taken over it has gone downhill and is not a patch on the previous owners' very high standards. The service was terrible and even in the bar where it was table service we waited about 15 minutes before we ordered and another 10 to get our drinks. This place is very expensive and we will not be going again, I could go on for a long time but just to summarise, it was rubbish and not worth the time or the money.

The breakfast was raved about by most people we asked in the area. Disappointing is a generous term for the experience we had in the restaurant. 30 minute queue because the empty tables weren't cleaned when people left due to staff shortages (on the weekend!), and an hour wait for food once we had ordered. Toast arrived cold and burnt, cooked food arrived cold and overcooked. What a shambles of a place!

We were staying in the Mews Cottages for the weekend. Booked into the restaurant for afternoon tea and also dinner on Saturday evening. The staff here are so lovely and attentive (special thanks to Cathy who gave us a great laugh as well as top-notch service throughout our stay). The room that tea was in probably could have been a little cosier (I love the room behind reception and that would have been a better room for the tea) but the tea itself was great and really good value I thought. The sausage rolls homemade in the on-site kitchens were heaven and I couldn’t fault the sandwiches, sweets or scones. Dinner was really lovely as well... I had the soufflé and the tuna loin which were exceptional. Good selection of reasonably priced quality wines and the service was amazing.

Went for afternoon tea with friends who had a voucher for themselves . We paid full price of £27 per person ( without fizz) as it was a Friday it was more expensive . Bread for sandwiches dry , cakes not very impressive and the thinnest scones I’ve ever seen. One of the cakes left an unpleasant after taste so I asked for a glass of water. We were brought an in house bottle of tepid tap water for which they added a charge of £3.50 - I have never been asked to pay for tap water anywhere before but when I asked if that was correct I got a shrug of the shoulders and no positive reply. Most of the staff gave the impression that they just did not want to be there and this in itself was off putting. My family and I have had many family afternoon tea parties at Eastwell Manor including our Golden Wedding anniversary , we have always been delighted and indeed it was at our suggestion that our friends were given their voucher as a gift. We felt a embarrassed that we had spoken so highly of the lovely times we have had at Eastwell and regret a return visit will probably not be happening.

My husband and i went to The Manor today for lunch. Whilst the surroundings are stunning and the food quality was good, there are a few things that we feel need attention. £20 for a foie gras starter for the size it was we felt was over priced. I'm gluten free and the waiter wasnt sure that the starter contained GF bread, although he did offer to go and check, i think its important to know what's on the plate you're about to serve. There seemed to be a long wait for everything, drinks, food and had to ask to order. Little things like no spoons offered with sauce and a distinct lack of ambience made us question if we'll go back here given the price point.

Having eaten in the Manor Restaurant a few years ago, we chose to dine again, with friends, for my birthday. This is a decision all four of us came to regret within 5 minutes of arrival. It began at the bar, as we were a little early. We asked the bar man the price of one of the whiskeys, his response was that he didn’t know, he didn’t actually offer to check for us. One of the drinks we ordered was a Pimms, which he said he didn’t know if they did that, despite the fact that we could actually see the bottle. This barman clearly didn’t know his drinks or have any professional service skills in his area. Four drinks and bill of just under £50 and less than perfect service or friendliness, he just didn’t seem too bothered. We sat in the bar area, waiting to be collected for our 18:30 dinner reservation. Come 19:00, we gave in and just walked through. That is when the entire night went from not great to about as bad as it gets! This is the point we should have just left.We walked into an overly chilly and brightly lit restaurant and were sat at a table with a couple of extremely bright spotlights above us, within half an hour I had a terrible headache. We were totally amazed that there wasn’t a single table cloth in sight, and the, what used to be, the beautifully decorated round tables, were now square and cheap looking. The grand piano had long gone, there wasn’t even gentle background music, nothing. All of these things put together are what gives a restaurant a bad atmosphere instead of a warming one. As the place filled up, the lack of music highlighted the background chatter, comparing the entire ambience to a Friday night at Pizza Hut. I expected more, as anyone would with a restaurant of this calibre. We finished our drinks that we’d brought with us from the bar, no one came to take a drinks order from us, so now we have a cut rate tablecloth-less table full of empty glasses. Eventually, a sweet but very young girl and clearly inexperienced girl, who had clearly had NO silver service training, came over to ask what we wanted to eat. I pointed out that no one had taken a drinks order from us, she said she could do that for us, which she did after taking our food order. Ordering was interesting, not the good kind. The starter menu was great if you like sea food, but if you don’t, have fun picking something! The mains menu was far worse, unfortunately. I have high expectations from a place that claims to have high standards and is above average priced. I would expect the menu to claim that you can have a choice of potatoes, ‘seasonal’ vegetables. But no, steak and chips, or veal and mash, no option with the potatoes whatsoever, very disappointing, and very typical of a Harvester type restaurant, which they are not, well, they're not supposed to be. The entire menu was underwhelming. The wine menu was equally dire, compared to the wine menu you once had. Both the wine list and the menus were extremely ‘dog-eared’ and tired looking, so the menus really suited the tablecloth-less tables and the plain and tarnished cutlery (soup spoon included when it eventually arrived, but I’ll come back to that in a moment). After a period of time, the starters arrived. No drinks, just food. We had to ask again, and it was another ten to fifteen minutes before the promised drinks made an entrance. I’d ordered a bottle of Pinotage (which was comparible to a mid priced supermarket bottle, it was not outstanding and I have certainly had better!). The incredibly young and untrained waiter asked me if I wanted to try it, of course I wanted to try it, I explained that you try wine to ensure it isn’t ‘corked’. His response was that it couldn’t be corked because it was a screw top! I had to explain to him that ‘corked’ means that the bottle wasn’t sealed correctly and the air had gotten to it, turning the wine into foul vinegar. Do they seriously not train their staff in anything?? The fact that he even asked me IF I wanted to try it, it is standard practice to sample the wine prior to accepting and he clearly didn’t know anything about this. My friends drinks orders were, and this bit is important because we will return to this topic shortly, one glass of rosé, two TINY bottles of coca cola (enough to fill one normal sized glass), and one pint of lager. When I say that the starters came out, I should clarify that two of the starters came out, there was a three or four minute delay before the other two arrived. So two of us had cold starters by the time the other two materialised. One of the starters was soup, and guess what… the cutlery on the table consisted of starter knives and forks, and mains knives and forks. Did the soup come accompanied by a soup spoon? It did not, in case you were wondering. We had to call the 12 year old waitress over and actually request a soup spoon. I’d like to say it all ended there, but there is so much more. All four of us, at this table, were smokers. After our starters, two of us went outside for a cigarette. Eastwell Manor is a listed building, pointing out the obvious here. Smokers get fined for dropping cigarette butts on the street in public areas, it is littering. And we are ok with that, we use the bins provided. However, a member of your staff actually told us to drop the cigarette butts on the ground outside the entrance as there is no smoking bin or receptacle of any kind outside the doors, nothing! So we were told to drop them, on the ground, outside the entrance, in a listed building area! Lovely! Nothing says ‘charm’ quite like cigarette butts all over the floor! We returned and the starter dishes still hadn’t been cleared. Of course. We were well into seeing a pattern emerging by this point. I’d also like to point out that all our dirty glasses from the bar were also still on the end of the table too!Eventually, the starter dishes were cleared, and two of the mains arrived, just two. So two of us sat there for a few minutes waiting for the other two mains to arrive. Eventually we all started on the luke warm food. No further drinks were offered, despite 3 empty glasses, and the four empty glasses from earlier, so 7 empty glasses so far. We finished the mains, went out for a cigarette, threw more cigarette butts on the listed stone floors outside and returned. Dishes were eventually cleared, but still not the glasses. We sat there for AN HOUR. No glasses were cleared, no dessert menus were offered, no further drinks were offered. At this point, my birthday ruined and our entire night a succession of disappointments, I snapped and marched over to talk to the ‘manager’, who had apparently only been there a week himself. Which was told to me by a 12 year old waitress, who also told me that they were hideously understaffed. Just what you want to hear when you’re set to spend in excess of £300 for a meal for four people. On approaching this manager, I told him we were disgusted and reeled off the above. He looked at me like a rabbit caught in the headlights and offered dessert menus. I told him I’d lost interest in dessert over half an hour ago, he offered to take another drinks order, I told him we wanted drinks an hour ago! I also pointed out the array of dirty glasses that had been there the entire time, and he offered to have them moved, a little late for that too! I wanted the bill and I wanted to leave. I had had enough, and so had the three people I was with. I believe he took something off of the bill, but we still paid £50 in the bar and another £200 in the restaurant. £250 for the worst night out I’ve had in years! I then wrote to the owners, stating all of the above and got the most shallow and pathetic response with no offer of recompence or heartfelt apology. I've read the other Eastwell Manor reviews on here, and there are sadly a lot of stories very similar to ours. It's a shame that Eastwell Manor have no interest in listening to us all and making some sort of concerted effort to make the much needed improvements to get themselves back to what they once were.

I’ve already written a review about accommodation in which we highlighted the slow service in the restaurant. Quite a few unhappy customers. To me it came across very much as limited number of staff doing their utmost to do a sterling job but struggling to achieve it. Needs in my opinion more staff at front of house with a good team leader. Food varied from superb to mediocre during our stay.

Lunch was a huge disappointment. Highly overpriced and staff who simply don’t care. No review of whether meal was ok. Which was not. Limited choice. £30 for 2 courses. Had to go and prompt one of 6 waiters to get a beer which we ordered. There were only 4 tables after all! Wasps seemed to like our table Killed one but staff took not a blind bit of notice. How have they allowed such a good hotel to go downhill??!!

We were on a midweek spa break and had dinner in the Manor restaurant (on a weekend you have it in the spa restaurant). I preferred having dinner in the Manor restaurant due to the ambience and so you are not dining in the same place for lunch and dinner. It was busy so had a buzzy atmosphere. The food was excellent. I had the artichoke salad to start, fillet steak for main and rhubarb panna cotta for dessert. We then went to the bar for cocktails which are very good.

Arrived at 8:10 for our 8:15 booking and our table for 9 had been given away to a table of 6. Was asked to wait at the bar where we could have a free drink while we waited which was fair enough. Get to the bar and after a 15 minute wait a barman finally arrived to serve us and the other queue of people. Finally at 8:30 we get seated on a table meant for 8 (2 people had to share 1 tiny bit of table). No menus given eventually 15 minutes later we get menu's to share between us as they didn't have enough. After asking twice to have our order taken eventually another 15 minutes pass and they take our order. We then asked for some water for the table which we had to ask for 4 times over 40 minutes we got some from a lovely guy named Neil who was in shock about this and was so fab he brought us water within 3 minutes. we had to ask for Bread as we only had butter on the table and had it was now nearly 10pm and not even had our starter, plus having a diabetic with us who needed to eat. The girl serving the Bread Brooke was lovely and new so wasn't very confident but she was so polite. We finally get our main meals at nearly 11:15pm and 1 was forgotten by the chef so by the time we had finished our food this 1 was arriving at the table. Then after a lot of complaints it still took ages to order desserts and be served them. We didn't get out of the restaurant until midnight. We went to complain to the manager to be told there wasn't 1 in. It ruined my sisters Hen do!

I came here for part of my hen weekend for a spa day and an afternoon tea. Starting with the spa, having read bad reviews I was nervous about visiting the spa but it was ok (no better, no worse). Now we move on to the afternoon tea, which was undoubtedly the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We were asked to sit in the bar until our table was ready - despite us arriving early, we were shown to our table late. The tea cups on the table were dirty, I requested a clean one and this took so long to arrive one of my party had to get up and get this herself. The tea and coffee was plonked onto our table and spilt by the waitress - milk did not arrive for another 20 minutes or more, by which point the tea and coffee we had poured had gone cold. Our sandwiches cakes etc did not arrive for well over an hour! How can something that is prepared in advance in batch take so long to be served? When we enquired about the wait we were told that ours would be "the next one out" even though we saw second rounds of cakes being delivered to two tables next to ours - eventually ours arrived, the cakes had condensation drops on them from being in the fridge/freezer and some of the sandwiches were so cold to touch and frozen solid. The only nice thing I can say is that the scones were good. The waitress was extremely inexperienced - we were not asked if we had any dietary requirements until after the food was put on our table!!!! The waitress was trying to explain to us what the cakes were and what were in the sandwiches - she couldn't remember and kept shouting across the lounge to a colleague for help. It was embarrassing and uncomfortable to listen to - especially when we had waited over an hour and were starving hungyry. We expressed our disappointment of the delay and the awful service and we were told a manager was busy but would be down to see us and the bill would be reduced by 50%. The manager never bothered to visit our table and apologise in person. The bill was reduced by 50% but a service charge was still applied!!!! My future mother in law had snuck off to pay our bill in full secretly as a treat for my hen do and as she was in a rush did not have chance to check that service had been added. Disgusting. What was supposed to be such a lovely occasion was completely ruined by Eastwell Manor and I am extremely upset and disappointed by this. Would not recommend this place in a million years.

Came here for an afternoon tea with my sister, which I had bought as a gift last year (you can purchase gift cards). It took us some time to get a table because three times we had tried to book, it had been fully booked. It was a good spread four finger sandwiches, two scones and four small cakes each, plus a good selection of tea. The small cakes at the top were a little underwhelming but the rest of the spread was very good. You have the tea in a cute library so it makes it feel very cosy.

I've really struggled about what positive elements to say about our recent visit for lunch with friends to celebrate a special birthday. Its been a few years since our last visit when the manor restaurant was considered to be one of the best in the area with silver service, nice linen table cloths etc, as well as an extensive menu choice. Its all changed now since being acquired by Champneys last year. The restaurant is closed for lunch Monday to Thursday, the lunch menu now consists of just three starters, three mains (one fish dish, one pasta, and a beefburger) two deserts and cheese and biscuits. To be honest, despite the lack of choice, the food was very nice, but we came away thinking that an opportunity had been missed to offer more. Our friend with the special birthday treat was clearly disappointed, had we had known in advance what things were like now, we would have gone elsewhere.

The breakfast menu consisted of Continental Breakfast as a basic which was very good with melon cheese, meats, croissants, preserves and Juices. I celebrated my birthday with my parents here last week. The food was delicious although the menu only had 3 options for each course which was disappointing. The service was brilliant and the food arrived in good time. We felt it was a little overpriced (2 plates for £25) so we stuck to water instead of soft drinks or wine. We were in a rush to leave as I needed to catch a train and annoyingly we had to pay at reception where there was a short queue with all of the guests in front of us having long questions. All in all though, the meal was beautifully presented, prepared and it all tasted lovely. If you have a special occasion ahead of you and can afford splashing the cash then this is for you.

Tiny portions, partly raw turkey, dreadful service (kept having to ask for every little thing, asked for black pepper got salt, no butter, no cranberry sauce, had to ask for drinks - at no point did someone say can I get you anything) Coffee was Nescafe or similar. See the photo attached for the vegetarian option, worth £25? They are having a laugh. Have been going here for years under previous ownership, sad to say not even a free meal would tempt us back. To be fair Gary the duty manager did refund part of the bill but even so it still ruined what should have been a family treat. A decent restaurant would have learnt from it, taken it on the chin and scraped the bill.
