The manor house in North Hertfordshire

We like Wetherspoons, and the lovely buildings that are used, this building was nice, but not as good as others.

Very low prices compared to other pubs. Plenty of seating while we were there (8-9 on Saturday evening). Service was friendly and efficient. As with all Weatherspoons, no music and for this place quite bright lighting with high ceilings all somehow contributed to a lofty, airy slightly echoey, rather than an intimate or cosy, atmosphere

Don’t park behind the Manor House unless you want a £120 fine! And there doesn’t seem to be anywhere else. AVOID!

Classic wetherspoon, just a chicken lunch for 3 but was pretty good value, food and drinks for cost of a sandwich. Filling and tasty. Summer so warm with outside seating, quiet for Saturday. Service was OK, maybe short staffed but we in no hurry.

Very long wait when ordering from app. Food arrives before drinks. Staff don’t seem to be on top of it. On the plus side, food is delicious and the drinks are insanely good value. My suggestion: walk up to the bar to get drinks!

Review is Not about the actual pub itself it about The building. Building is awful its all falling apart they got some sheets of something in the roof to cover up a hole in the cellar a lot of cracks on the celling in multiple locations wood is all falling apart in a separate part of the building

Very good service usual Witherspoon food

Compared to many weatherspoons, I would avoid Royston. Dirty tables all around, staff including manager, standing around chatting. No customer service! Breakfast missing items to be told that’s what you get despite paying extra for items. Dirty and disgusting.

Amazing breakfast and amazing service! Food came out very quickly and the coffee was really good! Will be back soon for the lunch menu which looked very good!

The food is awful. Used to be better, but gone downhill big time. Not sure what else to say about it. I'm asked to use at least 100 characters, but there is not much more to say. Food is awful. Presentation and the portions.

Very friendly Staff, and love their food. Never have to wait for long. And the best Orange and lemonade I ever tasted.

We went today with my husband and daughter and it was the worst experience I've ever had. The place seemed severely understaffed with tables not cleared for over 20 minutes. We ordered 2 chicken burgers and a chicken fillet with peas and chips for my daughter. We waited over 40 minutes (having paid in advance) and no one came back to update us when we asked. I saw 2 other girls ask about their food and leave before it arrived. My daughter became unsettled as she was very hungry. Eventually the food arrived. The chicken for my daughter was stone cold, unseasoned and dry as can be. She refused to eat it. She only had some peas and spit out the chips which were also dry and tasteless. Our "burgers" were day-old patties that had just been reheated and the chicken strips you can get in Tesco's. We have made similar sandwiches at home which were a lot better. We had to leave in a hurry as my daughter was really tired at this point and tracking down an employee to complain would take a stupid amount of time. We were on a spontaneous day out and thought we could just get something to eat without too much stress but this is what we got. Just shameful.

I visited the manor house today for the first time as I heard good things from colleagues. However just before 2pm I witnessed absolute shocking attitude and behaviour from the small, light brown haired manager that was on shift. She was screaming and shouting at another member of what I believe to be management team. This all happened whilst the dark haired girl was serving a customer. I could see that the girl was going to burst into tears at any second due to the unprofessionalism of said 'manager'. The saying 'lead by example', if this is the example that she is setting to the staff then I am utterly gobsmacked and really do feel for them. Another customer informed me that the managers name was ELLIE. They also said she just stands on her phone not doing what a manger should and is always extremely rude to staff and customers. I felt so sorry for the poor girl who was being screamed at and it has made me really question whether to come back here again. This experience really has bothered me to the point I felt I had to made an account on here and express how I feel.

Nice atmosphere, by seat the weekends, you never seam to queue for long, child and dog friendly but probably best during the day time for children. Nice and friendly staff, I have just one thing I would like to see, horseradish sauce for my steak 😁

Sexual harassment? Waiter cleaning up a glass's due to drunks being drunks. He then gets groped by wasted scum. Hire some decent security to stop this behaviour, surely you’ve got the funds?

Literally a bar that will unlawfully check you. With no warning and no actually evidence against you. Only to be wrong on the camera.

Went in today with my wife and 2 grandchildren they little ones had pizza's which were fine and they enjoyed their meal and icecream. I had cod and chips and my wife had steak and kidney pudding our food was cold and at best barely edible. Add on to this the attitude of the bar member who was rude and unpleasant and said well you just have to put up with it. Not good we haven't been in there for a while and probably won't bother going there again.

New to the area. Came back from London wanting to eat out, stopped off at the trustee Wetherspoon. Parked up round the back, I think it was their car park, and walked in. It must of been a busy day as we passed two full trays of empties left on a table. A party had taken place outside, kids were running around all over the place. Food and drinks ordered using the app, drinks took an age to arrive. Food took a little longer but arrived with an apology for the delay. We decided that next time we'll try another restaurant to eat in. Ok, it was the end of the football season and the main conversation in the bar was how well, or not so well, the teams had done, but there was no TV screens which is why people go to have a quiet meal.

This was a surprising little gem. Gardens front and rear, its an old Manor house in the middle of a small town. Highly recommended

Cheap as chips beer but rubbish atmosphere! Only go if trying to save money!!

If you wish to hear noisy ill behaved children go here on a bank holiday. A well behaved quiet dog is forbidden however. Wetherspoons need to reassess their policy. It's a pub , not a creche.

The food was great for the price, service is hit or miss depending on who's working, the females working there seem to have bad attitude

Decently sized pub with nice decor, good prices and good service from the staff. Most of the clientele were tradesmen and it was quite loud so not as family friendly as some pubs but it does have some quiet nooks where non-regulars can sit undisturbed

The Manor has a bright and airy feel. A good range of beers, but as ever, the upstairs toilets are a downer for the older clients who are not disabled. Found the picture of a namesake astrologer/astronomer attached. Did not sample the food this time.

The food was super tasty and the waiters were very kind and the seats were comfy and there were old pictures from ages ago that make the place look cool would go again.

Cold and burnt breakfast with burnt beans Disgusting 🤮

Went in and place was very quiet. Two staff behind the bar. One a young lady who looked as though she didn't want to be there was screwing the nozzles on the pumps. The other server looked at me and disappeared. After about 5 minutes he came back and served me. The young lady had finished the obviously difficult job with the nozzles and didn't even acknowledge me. Do Weathersoons ever do customer service checks? Doesn't look like it.

I like a good 'spoons but it was a bit cold and the heating didn't seem to be on!

Brilliant pub great ales ,top staff

Normally the "Spoons" breakfast is very good, but today the scrambled egg on toast was spoilt by the toast not really being toasted and was wet and sodden, very unpalatable. The traditional breakfast was OK but not warm at all.

It's what's expected from a whererspoons, pity about the toilets.

Ordered for 4 people and said I ordered for 3 although they never had what my husband wanted and I had to reorder but says I didn't

3 out of 4 meals were wrong. Food was of poor quality. Packet cheap ham with 9 chips smaller than my little finger. Took it back where the new manager was very rude. I ordered a jacket potato believe it or not it came with cubes of mozzarella cheese I was expecting grated cheddar. And no butter very dry . Another meal completely tasteless and missing an ingredient. Won’t be using the place again.

Standard Wetherspoons with the twist of a couple of TVs, which is rare! But great process as usual!

The woman behind the bar - Ellie- couldn't have been more rude. Dreadful dismissive attitude. I've never experienced such poor customer service. We were a complete intrusion. Definitely won't return.

Excellent value for money, it's always clean and warm in there, staff pleasant, very occasionally there maybe something not available but always a good standby.

Went to spoons Thursday and had my usual burger and chips and it was the best I've ever had the burger was cooked nicely the salad was nice and so was the chips and even the bum was toasted full marks today hopefully it's a new chef

Congenial atmosphere and pleasant company makes an enjoyable time.

Don’t get me wrong I love a spoons and this one’s no exception. Great products, great prices and great service especially with the app BUT no dogs allowed!!! Come on Tim. Don’t be such an a’hole. I can watch tramps fighting but I can’t bring my dog in. Really?

Quite a long wait time, apart from that a good pub

Food we had was very nice. However, quite a few items weren't available from the menu. Ie all beef burgers, it was curry Thursday and a number of curries weren't available. Various drinks including bottles of water weren't available. The food we eventually had to settle on was very good but not our first and in some cases not even our second choice either. Also felt very sorry for one member of staff who was trying to serve behind the bar and sort out food orders on her own as her other colleague's were at lunch! This was just after midday. Surely they shouldn't be on lunch at that time of day. It was starting to get very busy.

A very nice clean Whetherspoon's in Royston Hertfordshire. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff.

*EDITED 22/12/2023. Wow, how the quality of food has gone downhill so much here. Shrinkflation has truly got into this place. We ordered the American cheese burger and fried buttermilk chicken burger. Prices for the meals are £7.33 and £8.97 respectively and that's with alcoholic drinks. Well, the portion sizes are childrens sizes, food is still wetherspoons "meh" quality but the portions have shrunk drastically. Burgers are tiny and chips are half portions now. The whole idea of wetherspoons was a cheap meal and cheap drinks. That is CERTAINLY NOT the case here any more. In the current state of the world you'd expect a "no-frills" establishment that traded on cheap food and drink would keep to that mantra. Not any more. If like me you're a person that requires a decent sized meal this is no the place unless you order the small extras. Good venue, indoor and outdoor seating. Prices are standard. No on-site parking though.

It's a Wetherspoons - OK food at OK prices. Bit slow to arrive though. BUT this one has a major drawback if you have a disabled badge. The car park behind is NOT attached to the pub (even though it has the little beer garden there and is even called 'The Manor House' car park!) and there are no notices to say this. So the disabled spaces for you to park in, with disabled signs, are not for you. You will have to park elsewhere and if you have mobility issues, a 5 min walk for some just is not the same. And if you are not disabled, don't park there at all either, do the walk and save £60 !

Great pub food service and atmosphere

Order never turned up. Gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited (and waited) until I had to make my way home. Fortunately it was only a couple of drinks.

Love going into old buildings that might otherwise be pulled down. One of the cleaner Wetherspoons I've been to.

This was my third visit in recent weeks and although the ambience is fine and beer excellent, the food is a huge let-down. I'm sure not the fault of the Manor House but Wetherspoon policy. The steak and kidney pudding I had the first week was starter size, the fish and chips ok, and the five bean chilli today ... was literally that. Half a bowl of mostly sauce with a few cracked stale tortillas on the side. Plenty of rice, though not the best itself - a rip-off for what worked out around £8 for the food itself. Wetherspoons used to be excellent for food, I won't be planning to eat in one again.

It is what it is Staff seen to genuinely care. Food is cheap and cheerful but if they have what you want in stick it is great value Can get very loud at busy times but I try to go when it's not so busy Some parking for blue badges would be great!!

Every time I go I hear babies crying or shouting, food is literally MICROWAVED, ordered sausages and mash and half of the plate was cold and the sausages and the mash were HARD I couldn’t even cut them!! Awful, I used to love Wetherspoon but not anymore.

Food was sub par, even for wetherspoons. Parts of meals missing, drinks took over 20minutes to get to table from app order. Recommended anyone finds another place to go if eating. Especially with children.

Stopped by for a pre match drink on my way to see Halesowen Town play Royston. One of the nicest Spoons I think. Decent ale and a good atmosphere

Ordered a steak and American burger, both meals terrible the burger and bun were hard, steak was meant to be medium but came out pretty much still alive. Second time we've tried the food in the last 3 months both times sent the food back

It's a Spoons pub, so you know what you're getting. Nice and clean. Has a good selection of drinks to suit all tastes, food not bad either. I really like their American breakfast. Still reasonably priced, even after the recent price increase. Only reason I didn't give it five stars was because every time I try to order through the app, it comes up with an error message at payment and won't take my order, so have to go to the bar.

In need of a refurb. Staff are wonderful as usual.

I was not expecting it to be great but it was terrible. We like to think of "spoons" as being cheap and cheerful. It was cheap, probably too cheap. But I was looking forward to Fish & Chips served by the biggest Fish & Chip chain in the UK. But it was not cheerful or edible. The fish which is claimed to be "Freshly Battered" on the menu was about 3mm thin and the poor thing was battered to death, dried up and unedible. The Mushy Peas had the consistency of green Artex. The chips had lost the will to live. The segment of lemon was OK. I did not complain as I dont think anyone would have cared. This could just be a Royston thing, but a weekend spoiler. I've eaten in many other "Spoons" around the country and its been good. But not this one.

Standard Wetherspoons experience. Good unpretentious food, wide selection, great prices. Service fast and accurate. Shame the app blew up and we had to order at the bar, but that's not the branch's fault. Great big car park!

Standard Wetherspoons - dirty tables, decent quick-service food and convenient. A solid spoons that I frequent often with the fam - plenty of parking options available behind and nearby.

Nice clean, welcoming pub. Had steps to get in which was a little difficult eurgh the pram. Light,bright pub. Food came quickly.

Stopped here for both a dinner one evening and breakfast the next morning whilst walking a section of the Icknield Way between Letchworth and Great Chesterford. Pub was quiet on both occasions, food was excellent and served quickly.

Cheap and cheerful. Visited as we were at the zoo when it started raining heavily. Had fish and chips, which we ordered via the app. It came out promptly and was actually delicious! Staff were friendly.

I visited here today with my family my mum is disabled and is in a wheelchair, wasn't easy to get in the building with her wheelchair as it's not the bog standard size one so we asked for help to moved stuff which was blocking the double doors we had to use to get her through. We had breakfast here, my mum wanted poached eggs and then later got told they don't have any and when it came out was served them.... but were cold The rest of us had a large breakfast which was served with scrabbled eggs instead of fried as apparently they didn't have any eggs but we weren't told this. Other wise breakfast tasted nice but was on the cold side unfortunately. The staff who served us at the bar was very friendly and helpful

We simply loved it and we will return.

Cheap & cheerful, you get what you pay for

Stopped to have lunch during a long bike ride. Easy to order via the app get the lunch served outside in the sun. Service was quick, food was tasty, and they had low-alcohol beer too.

Waited at the bar and staff just ignored us so walked out and went to another drinker

Love a Wetherspoon and this is a lovely one... Such a beautiful building inside and out...loved the staircase and the light fitting coming down from the centre, there's also original fireplaces in a few of the rooms... Lots of history There's a small beer garden at the rear and a few tables out front

Need to sort ya half spicy chicken out, supposed to come with hot sauce in seperate pot You guys drown the chicken and chips in sauce, even head office says you are not serving it to spec. more like sauce soup with a chicken topping. Asked for a seperate plate to put chicken and chips on so they didnt go soggy, nobody returned, had to ask again.

Standard Wetherspoons menu, but one of the few places in Royston where the ales are actually the right condition. Staff is friendly and efficient.

Wonderful service by Kate and her team. Professional, helpful and gave great suggestions on food with attentive detail. Highly recommend :) We had char grilled half chicken with hot and spicy sauce with chips and apple pie for dessert and a warm cookie dough sandwich. Thanks again!

Typical JDs great place good food

A really friendly place with great staff. There appears to be a competition amongst the team to produce the perfect pint of Guinness, so I tried one yesterday. It was as good as any pint of the black stuff I’ve had in Dublin (and a lot cheaper). I’ll definitely be going back!

Good. The best thing is food is served until 11pm. And always a good choice of drinks, hot & cold, and a very detailed menu. Service is good too.
