The Mandolay Hotel in Guildford

Upon arriving at the hotel we had a small problem which was rectified immediately by the really kind and helpful staff. (Anu and team mates, I’m talking about you!) They really have made our stay enjoyable. Rooms clean and welcoming.

I checked in using link on a text message, but my checkin was not recognised when I arrived at the reception. As a result the allocated room was not ideal. The hotel is however amazing. Hotel has gone above and beyond to make it pristine.

Great stay, excellent breakfast and polite and efficient staff.

I and my friend went to the nice Italian restaurant you suggested and enjoyed the nice carbonara there. We attended a conference at the university of Surrey. I booked the hotel as we held the Celebration of my Father's life there. We booked about eight rooms and every single person found the hotel to be of the highest standard, including service from ALL the staff. As this was such an important occasion it was a great relief that we were looked after so well.

Rooms are so quaint and gorgeously decorated. I loved the smell of the Molton brown products in the bath and including popcorn and candies was such a lovely touch! Would stay here again if I ever had a need to be in guildford 🥰

If you have luggage the stairs are a death trap. Narrow and winding they are carpeted with no handrail on either side.

My favourite place to stay when I’m in Surrey. I was greeted by Scarlet at reception. She was so helpful and made such a fuss of my dogs, a very warm welcome, fab rooms, super friendly hotel. Can’t wait to return!

The staff here really do take care of the guests. Absolutely lovely. Scarlett in reception is so approachable and helpful. The lady in the bar was fabulous! Sorry, I didn't catch your name. Breakfast was ‘ok’. But decent tea means all is forgiven!! Thank you for a lovely stay.

Beautiful hotel in a perfect location ample reasonably priced parking across the road at G live. The rooms were lovely and clean, we were given an upgrade to a suite which was very spacious. There was a great selection at breakfast and the food was tasty.The bar area was bright and very modern. A lady checked us in named Scarlet she was very friendly and helpful, as were all the staff. We were given complimentary brownies on arrival and shown to our room. I will definitely return.

Yet again the Mandolay Hotel doesn't fail to impress. I was upgraded to an executive room which gave me more space. The bed is so comfortable; I had the best night's sleep in a LONG time. It's always quiet in the hotel. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and the waiting staff are always attentive and accommodating; they are happy to give recommendations that don't make you always choose the most expensive option. The breakfast choice is amazing; so much to choose from at the buffet and then a brilliant lacarte menu. The hotel is always so clean throughout. There is often parking on site, however if there is an event in the hotel, you might have to park in the G- Live Theatre opposite. This is honestly home away from home.

This was our second time staying at the Mandolay Hotel. We took our friends with us as we had such a great time the 1st time we stayed. The hotel is lovely. The staff are so friendly and attentive to any needs and the bar area and food was great. We were given an upgrade which was so kind of them. The room was beautiful I couldn’t believe it. It definitely made our stay extra special. Also Scarlet and another lady (sorry i didn’t get a name) on front desk was so lovely and friendly and very helpful. Thank you so much. As an American visiting I wish the rooms were a bit bigger. Service was great 👍 I got sick my last day there and reception was really nice to keep making sure I had everything I needed at all hours of the day. Shout-out to Scarlet for making me feel well taken care of. Thanks!

Second time staying here! Music going on until gone 12.30, rung reception and couldn’t be more unhelpful , said “it’s only going on for another hour then you’ll be alright”, not really good enough when you have a seven year old with you! Spoke with morning receptionist couldn’t be more ruder, Paid £140 + £20 parking for a room you get 3 hours sleep in ! Really disappointed!

Just to say a huge thank you to Scarlett and Ash for looking after my son’s passport that he had left at the hotel a week ago. It only became apparent to our son today when he tried to look for it. I phoned the hotel and they confirmed they had been looking after it for a week and tried all efforts to track him down to return it. The staff at the hotel are so lovely and friendly and will certainly be recommending the bar and hotel to all family and friends. Thank you so much again 🙏😊

Classic Afternoon Tea - came for a birthday treat! Excellent value for money, attentive staff - particularly impressed by the service of Fatemeh and Sasha who were warm and welcoming. Beautiful, fresh food and incredible selection of teas (unlimited tea and coffees). Beautiful, clean restaurant has been recently refurbished and great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!

We've had the pleasure of staying at the Mandaloy on two separate occasions — once during summer and again this past week in winter — and both stays were fantastic! The first time, we found the "crash pad" cozy and comfortable despite its size. This time, Joyce warmly welcomed us and generously upgraded us to a larger room at no extra cost. The second room was absolutely superb — spacious, impeccably clean, equipped with a mini fridge (a lifesaver for travelers with medication), and featuring a wonderfully comfortable bed. The hotel's charm and convenient location within walking distance to town make it an ideal choice. We will definitely choose the Mandaloy again when we're back in Guildford. Thank you again, Joyce, for the excellent hospitality!

The hotel was located around 15 min walk from Guildford train station through the town. Lovely hotel and welcoming. Rooms were small but cosy enough with some compliments but a lot of stairs up and down to get to room. Restaurant was lovely and service was excellent as well as the food. Breakfast was nice enough and staff were helpful throughout my stay.

Very unhelpful staff towards my mum for her Christmas work dinner. Arrived and had issues parking with the ring go app not working and they did not help what so ever. Very poor service

We went for the festive afternoon tea which was delicious and looked fabulous. Fatemeh looked after us beautifully - she is so attentive and friendly! We will definitely be back.

Avoid basement rooms at all costs. Poky and noisy until late at night and then first thing in the morning due to the staff pacing the floors. Impossible to sleep. Staff are very nice and the breakfast is excellent. Manager was going to look into my complaint but despite several prompts didnt bother to reply. Would not stay here again.

Update: Monday 30th Sep - 2 days after my booking. The email I received (regarding my complaint) from the Guest Relations Manage, Ian, is different to their response on my google review! Ian has completely neglected the reason why I have not stayed in: moth infested room and the damp/stale smell. Still haven't received a refund! I've been given room 42 at the lower ground level. The room had a very bad smell and clear moth infestation. I killed about 5 moths in the first 3-4 minutes of my stay until I called the reception for a change of room. They first said that there are no other rooms available, then they said there is another double room which they will move me to and asked me to wait. After waiting for a while and not hearing back, I went to the reception with all my luggage to then be told that the room they wanted to move me to is not available anymore! This is after the reception made me wait for 1 hour - from 11:30pm to 12-40 am! The receptionist offered me a 'room spray' to fix the matter and completely ignored the moth infestation. Not to mention, I have also booked (and prepaid) a parking spot at the back, and when I arrived, I found out that the car park was full with no available spots for me to park. I asked for a refund and decided to check out as there was no way I would say in an infested room. They handled the situation with a bad attitude and rude body language. Will never return and do not recommend.

Very close to the town centre. Comfortable and clean rooms although a bit cramped in the attic. Busy bar and poor acoustics. Ecologically wanting a bit.

My boyfriend and I had an amazing time thanks to lovely Fatemeh. Her great energy and humor made our afternoon even more special. The food was spectacular and the tea selection is to die for! Can't wait to go back.

The hotel is cozy and it is well designed the rooms were comfortable. The staff are good especially Fatemeh and kayce the were so nice they took care of everything before you even ask.

Excellent traditional afternoon tea. For £25pp, the selection was excellent and very tasty. Would highly recommend and we will be coming back. Fatemeh was extremely friendly and very attentive. Excellent staff to have and want to highlight for senior management.

Visited this establishment, celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday with a fabulous afternoon tea. The place was amazing and our hostess Fatemeh was the best ever!!! She was so kind and helpful and made our visit rememberable. The location was beautiful and we both enjoyed our brief stay. Will definitely revisit in the near future.

My mother came to visit me in Guildford. We found this hotel at a good location. The service was top notch. They did not let us have any issues during the stay. The staff - Joyce , Megan and Kate were helpful all the time. We needed special assistance and they were there to help. I would visit again when I will get the chance. Thank you for all the service and help during my stay. Definitely felt good

Very comfortable stay, and a convenient location. Staff was all lovely and took extra time to make sure we were settled in. Restaurant was accommodating, high-quality and safety conscious with food allergy. A bit noisy with doors slamming and other guests leaving early hours. Very nice linens & toiletries.

Nice hotel overall but due to an event in the region the hotel has doubled its prices. This is unacceptable, especially since there was no fitness center, all the rooms (basic, triple or deluxe) do not have enough storage. We booked all 3 types of rooms. The Deluxe room is really spacious and I recommend it but there is only one wardrobe. How come there is no dresser. There would even be room to add a small sofa. The bed is a little narrower than my experience in other hotels. Good English breakfast. The staff is friendly and smiling. In the Deluxe room, in addition to the iron, there was a steam machine to remove wrinkles from clothes. It was very practical. Nespresso machine and kettle in the room. Beautiful bathroom with bathtub. For the basic rooms there is really a lack of storage for clothes. The room being very small, you have to keep the suitcase open and this considerably reduces the passage. I recommend the basic room for a single person but not more than 2 nights.

First of all, a huge thank you to the staff that made our stay enjoyable. The room was very clean (thanks to Sijo), and Scarlet on reception have us a fantastic greeting and orientation before directing us to our suite The suite itself was a very nice room, but is the reason this review got 4* overall instead of 5*. In a hotel room, you basically want somewhere nice to sleep and somewhere nice to wash, with accessible plug sockets so you can charge things up, be a comfortable temperature and have good tea /coffee facilities. The room scored 3/5 of these. The bed was tiny for a suite, and made for an uncomfortable night. If one or both of you are above average in height or weight, this isn't for you I'm also surprised at the design of the bathroom. It chooses beauty over function. The hand towel holder is directly above the bathroom shelf, the shower curtain cuts off half the floor space in the bath making it feel like you will fall over at any moment. The bath is also very high to climb into. Good points include wonderful accessibility of plug sockets, great room design, very nice drinks facilities. The wider hotel was also enjoyable and I have to say the breakfast selection was easily the best I've come across in a long time.

Good location. No issues getting a parking space on either of the 2 days we stayed, but it did cost £15 per day to park at the hotel. Service was excellent throughout, especially Kayce and Fatemeh at breakfast who went above and beyond to provide gluten-free options each morning when I arrived. Room was very comfortable and quiet, with excellent, quiet air-conditioning that we could leave on overnight.

Our family of four arrived at the Gilford Mandolay Hotel after a 14-hour flight to attend an acquaintance's wedding. Although it was an unfamiliar environment, thanks to the bright smiles and staff who showed us the room three times, especially Joyce Yeung. I was able to stay comfortably. The semi-basement room that was first offered was not suitable for me who is sensitive to air, but I was very grateful that they kindly recommended another room.

One of the best hotels I've ever visited is safe, clean, luxury, excellent price and close to all activities, main street and main mall Joyce receptionist is nice and high-end handling. I got married at the Mandolay Hotel last weekend. Tami and kieron from the events team were amazing and helped make our day beautiful 😍 The ceremony and function room were both decorated beautifully 😍 they really listened to our ideas and created the spaces to suit our needs ❤️ All the venue staff were amazing 😊 especially Morgan who was also so polite and helped in any way she could 🥰 our families kept saying how amazing she was with them ❤️ and how much they really liked her 💖 Thank you for making our weekend amazing..💕

The reception staff where dressed professionally and most helpful. Bar staff were most obliging nothing was to much trouble and the same for breakfast staff.

A big group of us visited the Mandolay on Sunday for a hen party and we had the lovely Morgan who was there to help us. What a credit she is to your hotel. She was so attentive, friendly and funny. We all said how much she added to the overall experience. The food was delicious too! So just want to say a massive thank you to Morgan!

I have forgotten the name of the lady at reception but she was amazing. Had the best experience. Good bed and great location. There's a Korean BBQ place close by which was also yum 😋

On Saturday we were warmly greeted by Joyce, who efficiently checked us in and even escorted us to our Double Executive room. We had 1 small glitch that the heating wasnt working, but this was quickly resolved by reception resetting the controls. Joyce ensured that our front of hotel parking ticket was checked so that we could gain our 1 free drink at the hotel bar. The 'free beer' was good for my husband, whilst I enjoyed a very nice French rose. The bedroom was comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was 'cosey' , and for us was suitable for a night or two and it was a treat to use the Molton Brown products. At breakfast the next morning, we couldnt have asked for more. Once again the staff that attended to us were 'sunshine' friendly and helpful. The buffet (English and continental) breakfast was of great quality and very tasty....a pastry is a must to go with a choice of coffee. All in all a value for money and relaxing stay

Great room, really fantastic staff, walking distance to town. Really reasonable price. We got an upgrade and parking which was great. I cannot fault the atmosphere and decor. Clean and fresh. We didn’t eat or drink at the bar but they looked very nice including terrace at the front. The best place by far in Guildford. Highly recommended!

The Mandolay is the place any travelor would like to stay in. Smile at the front desk will wash away the tiredness of the trip. The room is cozy clean and comfortable. As if it was made for you

On checking in I was “upgraded” to a suite. The mattress was horrendous. The middle of the bed sunk and had a huge dent in it. The “upgraded” suite had a single bed in also. So I’m certain the hotel put me in this as a young person, as a tactic to free up a room. Not the service or the quality of sleep I expected from this hotel. Poor experience.

Beautiful little boutique hotel. Perfect location in Guildford and very nice and very clean rooms. Loved everything about this hotel. We stayed for 7 nights and the entire stay and visit in Guildford was perfect. The staff was amazing. I want to give a shout out to Joyce and Thiago. Always super helpful and friendly.

We visited the Mandolay for afternoon tea to celebrate my Mum’s birthday. Everything was fantastic. Ela gave us a warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. She was friendly, hospitable and attentive throughout. The food was lovely and the portions were much more filling than initially though! They also catered to our dietary preferences very well. This was actually our second visit; we remembered having a great afternoon tea experience many years ago, and wanted to return. Thankfully the team didn’t disappoint, and it was even better. Much better than recent experiences at other local hotels! Thank you again

Stayed here for a few nights eith work training and from start to finish it has been fabulous! Nothing too much trouble for the team and particular Arvi, scarlet and joyce were super friendly and helpful! Very welcoming and kind, have reccomended to anyone I know for when they stay in Guildford!

Good service, acceptable prices. Good hotel in the "exurbs" of London. Rooms were a bit small and cramped but clean and nothing was missing. Service very helpful, at any time of the day. The hotel is just 5 minutes walk away from the train station. The only drawback is the quite expensive parking lot in front of the hotel (£15/day).

We had a super welcome from Yudis at the Mandolay Hotel and our rooms were excellent. The breakfast was great and the staff serving were very helpful. Super place to stay if you are visiting West Horsley Place to see where the BBC series Ghosts was filmed.

I've stayed at the Mandalay 4 or 5 times now for business, and I've always been greeted with a smile. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are well decorated and maintained. Yudis has been a regular feature of my checkin and stood out for his exceptinal customer service. I'll be back!

Great welcome to this ideally located hotel by Arvi at reception, made check-in so easy and a real positive start to the stay. The hotel has good kerb appeal, looks inviting and clean and classy. New place, good service but a bit far from the surrey university and no lift.
