We stayed here overnight and booked the restaurant for our evening meal. Lovely staff, in a lovely surrounding. It’s a shame it was dark so we couldn’t see the views. Nice selection of starters, mains and desserts and we managed to enjoy all three. In the morning, the breakfast menu was plentiful and the sausage and bacon from a local butcher were very tasty.

£8 for what can only be described as not even a mediocre tinned soup served with a few slices of cheap baguette and pre packet butter.

Have been a regular visitor here over the years and went for Saturday lunch. Food was extremely disappointing and I left mine. My wife had gammon which had an egg with a rock hard yolk and white fat on the gammon, my baguette had undercooked bacon with a dull salad with lettuce that was quite bitter. A great shame because on previous occasions we have enjoyed eating here but this was extremely poor and not cheap so I don't think we shall bother again as there are plenty of better alternatives in Malvern

Mediocre but highly priced food. Not worth reviewing… but four staff members visible, but none of them seemed bothered to serve the max 15 dining customers and when they did it was either with a complete lack of enthusiasm or friendliness, or a false and forced hospitality facade. I’ve worked in this industry since I was 15 and I am rarely so moved to review the staff. I get it not anyone career option anymore, but if you’re going to do it, do it with a bit of class. Got I’m getting old, I sound like my Mother! Bloody kids these days. Avoid… shame, the location is amazing.

Genuinely shocked at what a rip off this place is. Yes it is a nice spot but seriously they should be ashamed of themselves. Never felt so ripped off by a pub before. A salad (‘main’ option) was a few leaves, couple of bits of beetroot and sweet potato and some dry old inedible chicken. It might look ok, but this was £21.45. Outrageous.

We visited for lunch twice whilst walking in hills. The staff were very friendly and efficient even when busy. Visited Yesterday after visiting all the time for a beer we booked for Sunday lunch. What a disappointment it was. It was a table of 6 at 4pm (the only time they had) in the restaurant with a view (or not as the case maybe) we were right in the corner, where the waitress had to lean over us to put plates down, it made no sense for us to have been made to sit there. We ordered 3 x beef & 3 x chicken I had the half a chicken, with pigs in blankets (which are tiny) Yorkshire pudding & cauliflower cheese. Two of our guests complained as soon as the plates were brought, there may have been a dollop of cheese sauce of the plate but the cauliflower was none existent. They did bring a small ramekin which again was quite a lot of sauce but not a fat lot of cauliflower. My roast potatoes were undercooked, cold & hard. Chicken was okay better value than the beef however the breast was quite dry. The beef was very thinly sliced served medium to well (not a pink bit in sight) The veg was two small bowls, with cabbage, broccoli & grey carrots We had to ask for more gravy twice & 3 of us asked for mustard & was brought 3 packets that were really difficult to get into and contained a small teaspoon if that. No one table checked, I had to ask for another drink & one of our party actually went to the bar to ask for more gravy. They also had a gentleman dining on his own who they decided to sit right on top of us even though the whole restaurant was empty. A real disappointment for a Mothering Sunday treat (a week late yes) Also it would be great if they dusted the shelf with the ornaments on it as one of them looked like it had some furry Stilton in the bowl. Average at best. Rather disappointing.

Awful!! Ordered 2 steak baguettes with chips. The steak was inedible. Cut far to thick and full of fat and gristle. We had to send it back. They did offer to replace, which we did with 2 cheese baguettes but they then arrived with no chips. I know it states on the menu that apart from the steak baguettes the rest don't come with chips but as we had ordered the steak baguettes to start with you would have thought they would replace the chips. For a place that seems to have a good reputation the food is very poor and not cheap. £15.95 for a steak baguette or £10 ish for any other baguettes with an extra £4 for chips.

Visited recently on my own for a coffee and light bite. Staff were welcoming and accomodating. Nice smiles all around and positive attitudes. Order taken promptly. This venue is full of character and has a very warm and inviting feel upon entry. A cosy feeling place with a good amount of space in the dining and general seating areas. Comfy seats too. I felt relaxed and in good spirits there during my visit. Had a coffee, then a glass of wine with my light bite. I have plans to perhaps stay here a night and see how that is but as I live nearby I will wait until the off peak season. Facilities are good and plenty of free parking. Take care if reverse parking by the stone wall near the front carpark entrance of the hotel as the top section of wall is set back further than the bottom so its hard to tell how close your car actually is to the lower part of the wall. Bump! Thanks for an enchanting experience, even if brief. I will be back soon!

Well situated opposite the car park for the British Hill Camp. A prime spot which quickly filled up after midday this Sunday. Seemingly a mixture of locals and tourists. One of us chose the roast beef meal, a fairly standard Sunday meal, nothing special. The other had dressed crab which was nice. Not entirely sure pickled onions suit crab but I guess it’s all a matter of taste. Sadly the ladies bathroom was upstairs which is not disability friendly. Oh, and they are dog friendly, so that’s a plus.

My husband ordered gammon egg And chips but was served what was the thickness of Lidl bacon egg and chips for over £17. His chips were rock hard and anaemic looking. I had sausage and mash with veg it was ok but very dry with minimal gravy. Veg was ok but tasted like frozen carrots to me. Not once did any staff member ask us about our food or made any attempt to clear up when we had finished so that I would have the opportunity to complain. Unfortunately I had paid prior to eating otherwise I would have refused to pay in full! Staff appeared to be plentiful preferring to chat amongst themselves and obvious friends at the bar. We used to regularly visit here for lunch or supper but never again. Standards have dropped considerably and prices have rocketed! No wonder there were only 2 other tables eating at 6 pm on a Saturday night.

Myself, my partner and my daughter went on the hills the day it snowed. We went into the Malvern hills hotel for lunch. We were already in the pub and had been there for at least 20minutes and had ordered. My dad arrived with his 2 younger children after walking from welland which was a complete coincidence as we had been sledging on the hills. We were told very abruptly that we had to leave as it was obvious we new eachother. My dad said that we had not come together and he would happily go and sit on a table away from us or in another room. This was still refused and the waiter we were talking to had an aggressive manner. He told us we obviously hadn’t read the government guidelines. I tried to explain that I understand people can’t mix indoors but we did not come together and are happy to sit the other side of the restaurant. I said that I know a lot of people in Malvern and am going to say hi to people. I also pointed out that due to the snow there are a lot of people on the hills who would come here for food so should he throw out anyone that comes in that I know? He didn’t explain himself he just said we weren’t getting what he was saying. When I said I didn’t understand he got more and more aggressive and at one point stormed over to me and was clearly getting angry. I am 30 weeks pregnant and with a 3 year old and his manner was completely unacceptable. He gave us no alternative, if it was the case we weren’t together that we could sit apart and not talk across tables. We left feeling embarrassed and like we had been personally attacked. Malvern hills hotel is in a wonderful location and has been done up nicely. However, they need to address the staffing as this is an unacceptable way of treating customers.

We had steak baguettes which included thick chips, the steak was cooked perfectly and not chewy as it can be. The 3 sausages and mash with onions and gravy equally as delicious with the sausages all locally produced.. Good selection of drinks on offer. The hotel is popular with walkers being near British Camp and various walks across the hills despite this both the inside and outside never became overcrowded due to the well spaced tables and attentive staff. Overall a great place to have a meal or just drinks. Thank you

Just had a weekend away at Malvern Hills Hotel and really cannot find fault with any of it. Wonderful location, extremely friendly helpful staff and an enormous bedroom/ bathroom with a shower I really didn’t want to leave! We ate there on Saturday night and the food was excellent. The refurb they’ve given the hotel is very smart. This wasn’t our first visit - it definitely won’t be the last. We going back in May and actually can’t wait. Thanks Malvern Hills Hotel we’ll see you next year

Made has a last minute booking and certainly no regrets. On arrival the greeting we received was warm and welcoming. The room was superb with excellent views across the hills. We used the restaurant each night and the food was always good. Great care taken with the current Covid requirements. All in all very enjoyable very comfortable and will definitely be returning. In fact all was groovy

Been here a few times for lunch with the misses and I always like to try something different from the menu. I have not once been disappointed and my partner is fairly picky and likes to swap and change a few items. This has never seemed to be an issue and the staff are always happy to accommodate us.

Popped in for lunch after a walk in the hills. I wanted to sit inside and luckily despite not booking we managed to get a table in the conservatory area. Staff very friendly. We had one of the specials which was dressed crab. Very nice and lots of crab meat. They were doing the Eat Out scheme which wasn’t a factor in going there but a nice bonus!

I had duck which was overcooked and fairly tasteless. The veg was red cabbage and again ...void of any taste. My friend has a ploughman's lunch which was ok but then its hard to spoil a ploughman's.Ive been coming here for years and never really had a great meal. This was the first time that I had dined in their restaurant and it is a lovely room but simply not matched by the food. The veg curry was off (even early in the evening )

The food is fine, beer was good, if not a little pricey- but you are paying for the location. No attempt at Track and Trace. Otherwise it would of had a 4 rating.

We visited on the 15/08/2020 our experience was made really special by one of the excellent waiter staff. Ieuan (I think thats how you spell it) dealt with us and I can honestly say that his enthusiasm, kindness and energy really made a lovely meal great! He made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much for him, he worked so hard to make sure we all had the best experience we possibly could. He is an asset to the team and truly made our day!The food was also beautiful and the perfect amount! It was such a lovely meal. We cant wait to return soon for another lovely meal!

Our party of 4 (2 adults, 2 young teens) called to book a table in the morning and the only time available was 8:45pm, which we booked. I was encouraged by this, as I felt that if they were so busy, the food must be pretty decent... *SPOILER ALERT* it wasn't.We ordered the Gammon (with pineapple, fried egg and triple cooked chips), Lasagne (with side salad and garlic ciabatta), Homemade Beefburger (with bacon, cheese and triple cooked chips) and a Trio of local sausages (wish mashed potato and onion gravy). Unfortunately, all of it was disappointly sub-par.The triple cooked chips were crisp on the outside, but lumpy and 'chunky' on the inside, rather than being soft and fluffy, as you would expect. The beefburger was very oddly shaped (some of which is to be expected, after all, it was home made), but it was so thick in some places and so thin in others that it had cooked unevenly, and most of it was extremely dry and it crumbled everywhere. The sausages were bland and there was not enough gravy. The worst meal by some stretch, however, was the lasagne. The only bit that had any flavour was the cheese on the very top (of which there was very little). It had very clearly been made a while ago, then frozen in portions, before being reheated in a microwave. No effort had gone into even pretening it was fresh - for example, they could have sprinkled some cheese onto the top and put it under the grill for a minute. The side salad was dry - it had obviously been chopped first thing in the morning, and served to me 12 hours later. It consisted of a small amount of lamb's lettuce (the only really edible bit of the salad), chunks of chopped red cabbage - not even shredded!, grated lumps of raw, dry courgette, old, dry gratings of carrot and a couple of cheap, not-quite-ripe-yet baby salad tomatoes. The garlic ciabatta was dry and so burned on the sides, that I could only eat the very middle of it. Very disappointing. We decided to spare ourselves the pain of dessert. The waitress, however, was lovely! If she hadn't been so personable, I would likely have sent at least the lasagne back, but seeing as we were only visiting the restaurant as we were staying locally on a short holiday, so won't be going there again and the waitress was so nice I din't want to add to her workload on what had clearly already been a long day for the staff, we just left it - so I do admit that I didn't give them the opportunity to rectify anything. It's perfectly possible that if I had brought it up, that they may have been able to resolve things to my satisfaction.

England's Gate is a traditional British Pub and should be proud that it lives up such expectations. The food and the service was excellent. My wife had a steak which was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which was exceptional (especially for those who wish to have some comfort food occasionally . Pity more is not made of the 'pie of the day' as it was obviously hand crafted and had a very generous filling of tender and tasty steak. I was a little unsure of what I would get when ordering as the description and lead me to believe it might be 'brought in'. Top marks when it arrived and looked and tasted great. This (and perhaps other great items on the menu) should be heralded as a special dish (as it clearly was) . Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back and sample the food and atmosphere again. Super place, well above average food.

Service excellent , food hot and O.K. Car park very dangerous with large holes, Marstons need to repair urgently before someone falls and claims compensation.

My wife and I live close to this venue but in the two years plus that we have lived here, we had not been to this establishment. My wife booked afternoon tea as a ‘special occasion’ as it was our anniversary. The afternoon didn’t start too well as there was no sign of our reservation. Although we had an email confirming the date, it wasn’t in the “Kettle’s” diary. Well it was, but for the following week. We got the impression that this was our fault. We agree that the views are very good and the staff polite but young and not that efficient, certainly not experienced To be direct, a flask and a pack of sandwiches is as good as an alternative as you can see as much of the views if you walk up one of the hills. It is with some regret that my review is honest and offers some direction in terms of improving what is on offer. 1. The whole building is ‘tired’; rather grubby and in need of a complete refurbishment. The outside seating needs completely redoing and the windows definitely need some attention. 2. The ‘tea’ (as in drink) was excellent - hot and tasty although £4 for a teabag and hot water if bought individually seems excessive to me) 3. The food, whilst fresh consisted of 3 small finger sandwiches - well filled but nevertheless small (equivalent to less than a full round of sandwiches), 3 extremely small slivers of cake - very sweet and quite artificial tasting, it did not amount to a whole slice and 1 small fruit scone with jam and decent cream. All for the bargain price of £22.00 each. To put this in perspective, that is: Pot of tea (c2 cups); 2/3rds of a round of sandwiches; half a decent slice of cake; a small scone with cream and jam. This is not a case of affordability but a case of value for money. And this certainly wasn’t. We were not given a choice of bread type or of sandwich fillings or what cakes were on offer. We don’t have any allergy issues but do have likes and dislikes of what sandwich fillings we like. One might argue that this is the price that you pay to eat and drink here and yes, you do have a choice to take it or leave it but at these prices, I’d expect 4 star service and food but sadly, this is just a cafe and I guess they can get away with charging what they like as people will use it. Given that we could have chosen other venues such as The Abbey Hotel, Cottage in the Woods which offer such ‘teas’, this was disappointing to say the least. Sometimes, profit is more important than quality and quantity. Sadly, I don’t see the latter being the priority here. Overall, my wife regretted booking this venue and we will not be rushing back.
