The Malt in South Derbyshire

Nice place, served quickly and bar maid was friendly. Has a nice atmosphere but yet another place allowing in dogs... One in there was about the size of a horse! Think they'd have something to say if I rocked up and took my horse in there!! The place had the fusty, smell of dog... It's gross. 🤢🤮 The restaurant area was separate and I assume they don't allow dogs in there but the smell carries... Stop allowing dogs in!! Not all are small, clean and quiet. It makes your pub stink!! Not a nice environment for a chilled pint at the end of the week.

There were four of us for Sunday Roast. We had a lovely time. Good service, nice food, served by pleasant and helpful young staff. The meals are plated - it is not a'carvery' type of place. We felt the turkey had the edge on the beef. There was a generous serving of vegatables and we all thought it was good food and excellent value. We all finished with their excellent fruit crumble. The Malt is definitely worth a visit and we recommend it.

Lovely village pub , lovely staff

First visit here today. Sunday lunch. Sitting in the sunshine with great food and a shandy. Doesn’t get much better than this. Very busy today but service was swift and very polite. Food was delicious. The meat ( pork and beef) melted in the mouth. Pudding was donuts with ice cream. Very naughty and very very nice. Will bring friends when we visit again and again. Thank you. Yummy.

A very friendly pub. This was our second visit with friends and both times we have been very impressed with the quality of the food and the friendly staff.

This is hands down one of the best pubs in Aston on Trent. The food and drinks are at a very high standard and the service and staff are friendly definitely recommend if you’re in the area.

The pub itself was heaving, always a good sign. We ate in a lovely quieter dining room, which was fully booked, again a good sign. Beer good, food good, service good and good value for money. A lovely evening.

Decided to stop here for lunch to break up our journey home. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We had the spring rolls, ham hock and donburi, with our little boy having the children's pizza. All of it was delicious and very reasonably priced! Couldn't fault any of it, just disappointed that we don't live closer. Hope to be passing by again soon!

Exceptionally good The Malt is a popular, traditional pub in the middle of Aston on Trent village with a wide range of drinks and fantastic food. Staff are friendly and helpful, the menu is sensibly priced with a wide choice selection. It's a real community pub, highly recommended with a great ambience

Wonderful dog friendly pub with great food. Friendly, welcoming and the right mix of traditional and modern pub styles. Highly recommend. Our little puppy Chutney loved his first outing as did we!

Unfortunately I was attending a wake but the staff were very helpful & friendly with nothing being too much trouble. They came out regularly to check the buffet was not running out of anything & we're very efficient clearing used plates etc away. The pub had a friendly feeling & was clean & cosy. The staff were working hard to make sure everyone was catered for. The food was tasty & there was plenty of it. Everything was fresh & attractively displayed. The pork pie & sausage rolls were delish & I was told food & produce were sourced locally from a near by village they only bought quality goods . It is not a pub I visit frequently but I will go back in the future & have a meal.

The best pub for miles around. Really friendly staff, great food and ales always a welcome. This put has a dog friendly area and welcome dogs our Retrievers love it as they get treats. Well worth a visit.

Delightful friendly staff and atmosphere. We were made welcome with our Golden Retrievers Nicky & Billy. Good ale and honest food, good selection on the specials board. Recommended for a good night.

Our first visit to the Malt - Friday evening, place was buzzing, very friendly staff squeezed us in fir a meal and so so glad they did!! Even though the place was very busy, service was excellent and food delivery was swift - the food was amazing, great portions and the taste - yummm, I had the rice bowl with Katsu chicken and sautéed greens - so tasty, my husband had pie of the day which he thoroughly enjoyed - squeezed in puff pastry apple pie and vanilla custard - shared between us - it’s a big portion - the pastry was so light, melt in the mouth. I cannot find fault with this place - would highly recommend Thanks The Malt!!

Loved this place. A Wednesday evening meal was ace. We were so relaxed chatting away we ended up being the last to leave but no hassle, staff were so nice helpful.

Laura and Team Malt did an amazing job catering for my late mother in laws wake. The staff were kind and friendly. Everything was taken care of so we didn’t need to worry. The best thing though was the quality of the food especially the sausage rolls & the yummy chips. I don’t usually like sausage rolls but I had 2! Thank you Laura from all the family x

We have just had my Big birthday party here. It’s a lovely venue for a small/medium sized party. We were in the restaurant but the weather was lovely so spilled outside too. Laura did us a gorgeous buffet . All my friends agreed and commented on how good the food was. Lovely food and so well displayed and served. Thank you Laura

We dropped in on the off chance. Staff were nice and friendly. Loads of choice on the menu and chose the hake and the pie of the day, both were superb. Had the banana bread and butter pudding which again was great. Excellent value for money and will definitely be make a return visit.

Had a lovely meal last night, the owner was very attentive, friendly and had great knowledge around allergies. I am gluten free and the person that served us talked me through the menu. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was perfect. Afterwards we both had a caramel espresso martini, which was amazing and made to a high standard. The Malt has a lovely atmosphere of a traditional, but gastro vibe. It is a hidden gem in a lovely village.

Had a great Sunday roast whilst passing through the area. Booked via email in advance and received a quick response confirming my booking. Service was excellent, really welcoming, friendly, quick and helpful. Food was delicious and good value. The premises did have some external building work in progress but it didn’t detract from a great experience. Would definitely visit again.

Absolutely loved it as a first time grown-up family dining on Bank Holiday. Nothing was too much to ask for from the service point of view and the full variety of the menu was available. Very stylish, cosy gastro pub, totally modernised, clean and reasonably priced, very good selection of beverages too.

Fantastic meal as always at The Malt, couldn’t fault it. The sliders from the specials board were amazing, everything perfectly cooked. Mark is an excellent chef, try the home smoked haddock pie and the pulled pork bun. Laura’s team are spot on.

Found this close to East Midlands airport before our holidays, what a little gem!! Food excellent and very friendly and helpful staff, see you all again in November. Many thanks.

Excellent service and food, worth every penny !

Good pub with a good selection of beer. Only down side when we visited one room was closed off because of a party and they had another party in the other room. When we tried to order food was told because they had two parties on they were not doing food. To rub salt in our wounds they brought food out for the party guests leaving us starving. So not the best experience.

This is the second visit in less than two weeks, the food was so good I went back and I wasn’t disappointed. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. Generous portions but not to large that you are put off. The staff are friendly, and very efficient nothing too much trouble. The place was buzzing and there was a great atmosphere loved it.

Great local pub with a nice selection of beer and real ales. Plus they have Birra Moretti which is a personal favourite of mine.

Cracking pub, definitely worth a trip

Went there yesterday with family, there was 16 of us in total to eat the food was served hot and none of us had to wait for others to be served the table was served all together which was lovely. The waiting and bar staff are very friendly and helpful and catered to our needs even my 92 year old nan enjoyed herself as we were able to have the family sat together. Food was perfect no one had a complaint about it was all plates were completely finished. Just the right amount of food too. Definitely going back there again.

Had a delicious home cooked Sunday lunch here. Great portion size. Big Yorkshire pud. Good selection of veg & fab roast potatoes. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend.

Set in a back lane of Aston on Trent, is this lovely pub and restaurant. Dogs are made very welcome, the garden is compact with covered seating. Staff are incredibly helpful and welcoming. We went on a Sunday afternoon, for a quick drink and the food looked really appetising .

A bit unfair to comment on the food or service as I was at a funeral. It all looked good.

We were lucky to get a table with it being Mothers Day but the set menu did not disappoint! Chicken liver pate to start, followed by roast rolled leg of lamb. So full couldn’t manage a desert. Well worth the money. Will definitely go back.

No atmosphere, greasy food, served by someone wearing a tracksuit who had possibly been for a run. Man at bar smoking inside. Really disappointing. certainly won't be returning.
