We came down for the first time for bonfire event with our 1 year old and 4 year old! We got there about half 5 and got some drinks with minimal bar queue. The display was amazing! Really impressed and perfect length for young children, also great start time for young children too so thank you! Will be back next year! Might be an idea to have a bottle bar outside in the car park for when the inside bar gets busy, gives people other options for drinks.

'Vegan nut roast' on the menu - when it arrives it's with Yorkshire pudding and buttered mash. "Oh it's just the nut roast that's vegan, not anything else", plus no vegan pud despite a lengthy dessert menu.

We hired out the orangery room for our 10 year wedding anniversary party, we were allowed to use the room a few hours before the party as we wanted to decorate it ourselves, which was brilliant! In the evening we had pizza and Procecco which was perfect, all the staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble and the price for room hire, food, procecco etc was very reasonable too! I visit the Malt regularly for drinks with Friends, a bite to eat after walks and Sunday lunch with family and each time it's been great, since Katlyn has taken over the food and service has always been very good and staff always super friendly.

I have just read the below review (x5310nw Simon) and feel compelled to comment as I was present ( had been dining out with friends and had retired to the sofa area for drinks) and witnessed the event that occurred and would like to express my disgust at the exaggerated portrayal of the situation. The customer was very abusive and aggressive towards the young lady that was serving and the manager dealt with this customer respectfully in my opinion considering his attitude and rudeness. I have visited the Malt on many occasions and have never had any issues with the staff or the food we have eaten, it is always very well presented and home cooked food. The menu has a good range of options to suit all pallets, I myself am a vegetarian and do not struggle to find options on the menu. I am a very strong believer that we are all entitled to our options but also believe that there is a polite and respectful way to air our issues and concerns when they arise, you sir was aggressive, disrespectful and rude! Even the other guests at your table looked embarrassed! My advice to you sir , if you want a steak go to a steakhouse! I will just finish by saying that as a regular customer myself I can say with conviction that the new management team and staff are doing a great job and provide a very warm and friendly environment and great service

As a regular customer for the last 20 years was looking forward to one of the steaks provided by Ellisons with the malt taking locally produced produce .I was taken by surprise when we visited on Saturday night that there has been a number of changes to the menu and serving times . Firstly arrived just before 7.15 pm with no one on the bar we waited nearly 10 minutes and finally found a server who showed us to the table . Given 2 tatty menus to could not believe the small choice of food compared to our last visit. I asked to speak to the manager why steaks and other pub classics were not available and got a stern reply that NO ONE orders steaks any more and we throw them all away ..I am sorry but during summer a grilled steak is a must . I also enquired that on thier own website there is a full menu of 15 choices of pub classics and steaks , now the cut down menu lists only 4 pub classic and no steaks options . If the website had been updated we would have not booked not just for the steak option but the removal of a number of vegetarian meals ...looks like the Brown cow or the white horse from now on ..its a shame !!!

An extraordinary discovery in a beautiful part of Yorkshire. The Malt has to be one of the most welcoming pub/restaurants I've visited, and I have visited a few! The relatively new manageress has created an ambience that makes you feel at home even as you approach the door. Walkers, with or without dogs, drop ins and regulars mix in a friendly atmosphere of happy conviviality. There is a more formal eating area, though many choose to eat in the heart of the pub. There are many options from vegan through seafood to meat, and on a Sunday you will need to book for the outstanding roast dinner. Nutroast is also available. There is a range of beers, ciders and wines, perfectly served. In short, whether or not you are walking to the nearby and picturesque Goit Stock waterfall, if you are near Harden take advantage of this wonderful old pub.

Does The Malt have new Management as I visited with 2 friends last year when the food and service were very good. However, last night, 25/05/24, I found the food to be substandard with raised prices which we did not mind, had the food been good. We were advised by the waitress that the specials were "off" and that the fish pie was also not on the menu. The online menu was not up to date and the remaining offerings left on the menu were a few choices. My steak and ale pie: The steak was dried out and the ramekin with the mushy peas was floating in the boiling lumpy gravy on my plate. The mashed potato had formed a skin on the top from over heating. This cost £14.95. My friend ordered a beef lasagne ar £14.95 which consisted of tomato puree, pasta and cheese. My friend found perhaps 5 tiny pieces of mince in it and thought it might be a vegetable lasagne, but no veggie lasagne was on the menu. When the waitress came to clear our table she did not ask us whether we would like a sweet and we waited perhaps 15 minutes for her to return, but she did not. We decided to leave. When we approached the bar two waiters were deep in conversation with their backs to us. A gentleman perched on a bar stool kindly called them to our attention after waiting awhile. The bar was not busy there was no one else waiting to be served. The waiter asked whether we had enjoyed our food. My friend advised that him the beef lasagne had no beef and lots of tomato puree. He asked me how my food was and i asked for the bill. He said he had not charged me for the lime in my lager and asked if we would like to speak to his Manager, but by then we just wanted to leave. This Tuesday 4 of us had planned to return to The Malt as one lives within walking distance and it is her local. However, we will not be returning and will book elsewhere.

Took the opportunity to stop for a wine on my usual dog walk as the weather was fabulous and the beer garden is amazing. However, when it came to pay, my card would not work after numerous attempts!! What could have been an awkward and embarrassing situation was quickly resolved by Julie giving me my wine while I sat outside frantically trying to retrieve my pin code and providing me with her bank details so I could transfer the cost of the wine without further awkwardness!!! Felt so welcome I had to stay for 2 wines!!! Wonderful place, with wonderful staff. I am looking forward to see what the summer holds at this pub. Side not, also really accommodating for the dogs, bringing water to the table in the hot weather without request x x

Bank Holiday Sunday lunch. Table booked advance and we said there we would not be any dogs with us. On arrival we were sat in a corner by a dogs water bowl. There were at least 6 dogs in the area where we were eating at any one time. Not ideal when owners let them continually sniff around all the tables. The food was average. The two course offer makes a difference of just 5p to when you pay separately? Not sure what the point of this 'offer' is? (In fact, maybe even 5p more). When we mentioned this to the waiter his reply was 5p is 5p.... how rude.

The food was lovely , and unlike so many places it was hot ! Perfect Steak Pie and Gammon , only feedback to the chef was to hold off the excess pepper in the soup . Great to have Old Peculiar on the pumps and it was well kept . Minor criticism was the price of soft drinks , £4.05 for a 1/2 of lime and lemonade is a stretch especially when a pint of beer is only a few pence more .Thanks again Caitlin and see you soon.

Meeting up with friends for lunch. Service was good and they gave us time to chat before ordering. The conservatory room however was cold with no heating on and only one other couple eating there. The menu looked good but the food certainly did not match it. While my beef sandwich was good the posh fish finger sandwiches were far from posh, cheap fish fingers in cheap white sliced bread. The same bread was used for the cranberry bacon and brie sandwiches resulting in just a soggy mess. The accompanying chips contained a few edible ones in amongst in amongst some fatty crispy slivers . We decided not to risk any desert. It is such a shame that this wonderful building and beer garden is ruined by the cuisine.

We came here today to try the place out. Immediately we were met with an incredibly warm welcome and sat by one of the two cosy log fires. We ordered two types of sandwich and they were exceptional, bread crunchy and soft, with great flavours and came with chips and salad. Great value for money. The place overall has a really nice atmosphere and the service was second to none. Especially by one staff member. Overall it's a great place and I would highly recommend this historic pub. We will certainly be back. Thank you.

My only problem is that when ordering a meal it says it comes with a Drink, but no drink show up. Then when i called he stated that the meal does not come with a drink you have to order the drink separately, had i known that, i would of.

The pub interior and exterior was very welcoming. The food was excellent. I had the sea bass and my Mum had the vegetable penang curry. I thought that the sea bass dish could have had a bit more potatoes and veg but otherwise it was very tasty. Jess provided outstanding service and was very friendly. When we wanted our puddings and coffees brought together Jess did this and even added a small flapjack with the coffee as my Mum likes. We enjoyed the meal very much and will be back.

Slightly disappointed to arrive on a lovely Saturday afternoon at 3.00pm to find the doors locked and nobody around. The opening times are too varied and not clear enough.
