Stayed for one night with a group of colleagues. The bedroom was very dated and unattractive. The dining room and bar area were dingy and uninviting.

One expects a pub to be generally open, but they have limited opening hours (open late shut early on weekdays) Otherwise it is more of a decent B&B than an inn. Rooms are functional (not sure how they would be on a hot summer’s day) & bathroom is basic. Wifi very good. Shower max height was abnormally low so had to squat to wash my hair

Had a fab stay here. We stayed for a couple of nights as we were attending a family wedding in the town. From start to finish we were made to feel so welcome by Wendy and her team. The food was great and the staff friendly. The decor of the hotel is a little dated but that adds the charm. The hotel is in a great location.

Visited with members of my walking group for Sunday Carvery. Excellent food and great value. Staff very friendly and serious about COVID precautions. More people should discover this place. Have lived in this area for 35 years and had never visited before.

We ended up at the Malthouse for Sunday lunch because the pub we intended to go to didn't work out,but we're very glad we did. The carvery was really good value for money. We had a choice of pork, turkey, beef or lamb and the portions of meat were generous. A really good selection of well cooked vegetables and plenty of gravy left us very full but we did manage to squeeze in puddings, which were again very tasty. The staff were welcoming and attentive and we will definitely be returning.

We stayed here for 2 nights, the first night we enjoyed a lovely meal in the bar, which was served hot and a very good serving and tasted delicious ( I had the malt house steak and ale pie and my husband said his gammon steak was the best he had ever had!) The bedroom was very clean and we were able to walk the very short distance to the castle for the wedding Breakfast was very good especially the perfect poached eggs!! Very friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble, I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed here for 2 nights with friends and family to attend our son's wedding at Berkeley Castle. The hostess Wendy was fantastic -we asked at short notice if we could leave our cases at an earlier time than check in and our rooms were ready and available. We ate in the Malthouse on Friday evening and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We also had a number of friends and family joining us for a drink and Wendy kindly reserved an area for us. The bar staff were really friendly and we had a great evening. We also got the chance to play skittles which was great fun! Breakfast was really nice - I had the best poached eggs ever! The rooms were very comfortable and very clean. A great stay to complement a perfect weekend.

Comfortable, clean. Narrow double bed. Adequate facilities. The full cooked breakfast was excellent. The alternative continental breakfast was limited but adequate. We were attending a wedding at Berkely Castle, so our priority was somewhere to stay within walking distance of the Castle.

2 rooms booked for a 2 night stay for a family wedding down the road at Berkeley Castle. Friendly & accommodating staff. The owner Wendy is so friendly, chatty and a very accommodating hostess. Very comfortable bed, freshly cooked & good choice of breakfast, good value evening meals with lots of choice & reasonable prices. Definitely recommend this pub/ hotel for its homely feel & close proximity to Berkeley Castle if you’re attending a wedding there, especially if you take all the rooms like our extended family did. Have a go in the skittle alley whilst there-great fun! Thank you Wendy & staff for putting us all up & putting up with us - lost keys, extra fans etc! We had a fab weekend.

Called in for Sunday lunch on a recommendation, haven't been there for years, quiet bar, busy restaurant area. Several very young inexperienced girls waiting, pleasant and helpful (but not trained) lady at the carvery very pleasant and welcoming, choice of 4 or 5 home cooked meats, she cut thick slices, just as much as you wanted of what, The vegetables, were excellent and poor :- the best selection of obviously fresh home grown I've ever come across, BUT they were only warm at best which was the only drawback to the place. Should the manageress resolve the vegetable temperature this place will get packed to the rafters.i

We were made very welcome although we arrived just before serving finished at 8.30pm. The menu was interesting and varied and the food was well cooked and attractively presented. There were good vegetarian options available. The chicken in almond sauce and the Thai crab cakes were both delicious. Conveniently situated quite near the M5 between J12 and J13. We hope to visit again on one of our journeys between Birmingham and Bristol/Devon.

Booked last minute for a family birthday, our first time to the Malt House despite being local. Restaurant has a nice feel to it, split onto two levels with plenty of beams and exposed wood and stone to give it a degree of charm. A nice warm welcome from the waiting staff and we were shown to our seats and ordered drinks. There were a surprising number of diners there, giving us a good feeling that the food must be half decent!Carvery lunch was £9.40per person, not cheap, but we found the quality to be good. The portion size of meat was generous, then it was help yourself on veg and potatoes. Plenty of choice of veg and the staff were quick to refill when running out - in fact the waiting staff told us at the table when all the veg had been replenished.Staff were attentive throughout, and a surprise ice cream and candle for the birthday person was a nice touch.Improvements? Well, the gravy could have been a touch hotter and the staff could have waited until the restaurant was empty before emptying the carvery keep-warm serving unit of water. But minor points.Overall, we'll be back!If anyone from the Malt House reads this, please put details of the carvery and your evening menus on your website, save us having to ring for details!

I had the Halibut Steak with mash and salad which was gorgeous. Was tempted by the sausage and mash (there was a whole page of different sausage options to chose from) but the fish won in the end. Not disappointed at all.

This is not a flash establishment in any way. However, the welcome is friendly and the rooms clean and adequate. The decor is quite old fashioned and the fittings are not modern and stat of the art. If this is what you seek then 'The Malt House' is not for you.The restaurant menu is excellent - good and plentiful pub grub with a wide choice. The staff were friendly apart from one young girl whi said next to nothing as she produced our meals - she needs some training to help her liaise in a more friendly manner with customers.Overall we had a good stay and I would recommend this to others.

We had a meal here as it was one of the restaurants accepting our Taste card, this gives you 50% of your food. My husband ordered a pie, which was clearly with one made of a frozen pastry tops you put over a dish, & I had Lasagna & chips. The chips were pale & under cooked, the Lasagna itself watery. We found the prices to be very expensive for the quality we'd received. We'd previously had a really good meal there sone years ago, so we felt disappointed. Whether it was the chef having a bad day, or a change of hands I do not know. We won't be rushing back there again.

We had the Sunday Carvery on the 24 August, the choice of meats and portions were excellent.Similarly the choice of veg was good and tasty, my only comment is that I would have liked some boiled new potatoes. The service was great & the staff were very friendly. We were only visiting the castle and are not locals but we would come here again for the roast dinners!
