We had a spontaneous trip out and stopped at the Maltsters Pub , we were hungry so decided to order the Roast Beef. Oh my God was it good, the Beef melted in the mouth and it looked as good as it tasted. Staff were friendly and did their very best to look after us while we were there. We will be coming back to try more, my waistline may not thank me though. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of my food as I was hungry and tucked in!

The pub itself is lovely in a lovely location but WARNING stay away from the curry! If you are somebody who likes spices, this was just so bland and boring. Tasted more like a watered down tomato soup! Disgusting!

Just had awesome bangers & mash at the Maltsters - great grub and great service, too. Mark & Amy took over the pub earlier this year and are putting in loads of exciting improvements to attract custom. Will be back again soon! [Also, Hobgoblin Gold on tap]

We were moored for a night and booked in with the knowledge that the pub had been taken over and my goodness it was amazing. The meal I ordered (salmon) was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. My tastebuds were dancing with flavour and it was well worth coming here. I appreciate good food and was not disappointed at all it was the best meal I’ve had in a long long time. We will return here for sure :) The staff were professional and efficient, they brought some fresh water for our dog and provided free snacks for him too. Highly recommended

Alright, let’s be real—The Maltsters has had its “interesting” phases over the years, but under the new management (finally!), it’s blossomed into a gem of the Broads. And, being the responsible adult that I am, I’ve taken it upon myself to rigorously test this place over the past few months with friends, family, and anyone else I could drag along. All in the name of “research,” of course. First up, the drinks. The days of staring blankly at the same old flat pint options are long gone. Now, there’s a drink selection so good it almost feels like you’re cheating on your usual order. Craft beers, gins that’ll make you question your life choices (in the best way), and I’ve personally sampled most of them. You know, for quality control. The music? They’ve nailed it. Enough to keep the atmosphere buzzing but not so loud that you feel like you need to start a conga line (unless you’re into that—no judgment here). It’s perfect for those “one more drink” conversations that turn into three. And the crowd? Somehow, they’ve managed to create the perfect blend of locals and tourists. It’s like a social experiment where everyone forgets who’s from where after a few drinks. The locals have even graciously allowed the tourists to join in, as long as no one asks where the best fishing spots are. (We have to draw the line somewhere, folks.) In short, after months of, ahem, “extensive testing,” I can safely say The Maltsters is the must-visit pub on the Broads. The new team has done wonders, and let’s just say, I’ll be back regularly—for more ‘research,’ of course. Don’t judge me, I’m doing my bit for the local economy.

We made use of the pub car park to stay over in our campervan, as it's very handy with the toilet block open all night. Free park up is OK if you use the pub, which we did for dinner and drinks. It's a relaxed pace of serving, which is good if you are on holiday. The food we had was above average pub-grub, And came in good portions. Nice local beers can also be enjoyed. If you stay over, or are visiting the area, take a trip up the tower at St. Helen's Church, the view is well worth it.

Moored up at Ranworth whilst on holiday on The Broads. We had visited the Maltsters a few years ago and it was (not to put a finer point on it) absolutely disgusting. As we knew it was under new management we decide to give it another go and we were not disappointed. The food we had was absolutely delicious. I had a steak and it was cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and helpful, so if you are moored up at Ranworth give them a look. The cocktail was also mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

This place is amazing! They’ve just got it completely right. All the staff are very welcoming, friendly and nothing is ever too much. You can see they work extremely hard. The pub is set in the beautiful scenery of the Ranworth broads, great decor inside and out! They hire a variety of regular live music monthly and it’s such a great atmosphere. My partner and I have enjoyed many nights with our friends and family here. We have dined with The Maltsters twice now and the food is delicious. We tried their Sunday roasts this weekend and wow! Best roast I’ve ever had in a pub restaurant. It’s really nice to sit outside in the sunshine with a drink too and enjoy the scenic views. If you haven’t been to The Maltsters yet, I highly recommend it. Well done The Maltsters, you’ve made Ranworth even better!

This was hands down the best place we stopped at, to eat, during our Broads holiday. We stopped for lunch on our last day before heading back to Wroxham. Unlike a number of pubs we visited the staff were super friendly and could not have been more helpful. In addition the food was really great with special mention going to the fish & chips which were absolutely delicious and by far the best we have had within our collective memories.

We had high hopes that the mushroom pizza we ordered was going to be made with fresh ingredients in their outdoor pizza oven. How wrong we were, as it was the most disgusting greasiest pizza we have ever eaten. We only persevered with eating half of it because we had paid for it in advance (£13), and because we were hungry after hiking in the area. If I were the owners, I'd be embarrassed to serve such disgusting food and even more embarrassed to call it a pizza. I have only given it 1 star because it is not posdible to rate it any lower.

We have been coming here on our annual boating holiday for nearly 15 years and it has been a reliable hostelry until about 5 years ago when a new landlady came in when quality and ambience went through the floor. We witnessed her berating the chef - who turned out to be a youth with little experience. Staff kept walking out and the whole operation was really terrible This year, the owner of The Granary (which is excellent) took over and our visit last evening was really great. Wonderful ambiance, enthusiastic staff and some great food. We had the hummus starter to share and then F&C plus an Italian chicken burger which was a really inspiring in its flavours Finished off with my favourite - a waffle It’s nice to see this pub back on its feet and serving such good food with charming staff. Strongly recommend both the Maltsters and The Granary at Ranworth Staithe

Went to try out after reopening. A previous experience under the old management was appalling. This time the welcome was friendly but after that the service was relatively poor. The food acceptable but not outstanding. Hope they will learn from feedback and go on to develop a thriving pub which is pleasantly situated on the broads.

After three months closure the Ranworth Maltsters has a new licensee at the helm , we went to the opening evening and at 17:00hrs there was a queue to get in , the ladies behind the bar were quick and efficient, the real ales on tap were well kept and for the area were reasonably priced (£5.50 a pint which is normal for broadside pubs), although the kitchen hasn’t opened due to a massive refurbishment being needed the newly fitted out pizza den was operating and despite the volume of customers we had to wait only 20mins for our pizzas which were tasty , hot and very enjoyable. Well done to Steve and your staff for resurrecting The Maltsters we will certainly be regulars when afloat .

Was very disappointed as paid £46 for two Sunday dinners, with two drinks. Yorkshire pudding was slightly burned. The young lad asked if we needed ‘any sauces’. Not sure what sauces one would have with a Sunday dinner, but did ask for extra gravy for both of us. As both didn’t have enough and the dinner was dry without. Was told no, I would have to put extra gravy ‘though the til’. Would have meant leaving my meal, which wasn’t piping hot, queuing at bar and waiting for the gravy. After paying around £ 16 each for sunday dinners, I expect enough gravy, simple as that. Added an extra star as they played Noel Gallagher on the wireless.

Have been to this pub multiple times over the last few years and have always been impressed. Tonight was a different experience, menu was the same as previously but quality of food hit rock bottom. When explaining the issue to the bar person he offered a replacement but I'm always dubious about sending food back and having it replaced so I asked for the meal to be returned. When asking to have the meal credited I was advised that this can't be done and can only offer a replacement order, when challenged and asked to speak to the manager I was then advised they could only offer 50% credit as my opinion (as the customer) didn't count as the chief always presents the food this way all the time. So if you visit this pub please expect the beef burger to be tough dry, hard to cut and indigestible. But for £16 what a bargain. What a shame but this location is not what it used to be.

Beautifully located pub especially if you're on a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads. I had pre-booked a table a couple of months in advance but actually it wasn't overly busy although I suspect this wouldn't be the case in the summer. The food overall was very good. I had the smoked haddock chowder to start, which although very tasty, could have done with being hotter. One of my friends had a prawn and crayfish salad starter, which was huge and could easily have been a main-course portion in some pubs. We were well attended by the barman and I would visit again.

Really disappointed by this place. Visited Sunday nice looking pub, this was our first and last visit. Asked for menu and young lad pointed and went “there”Menu very minimal, no Sunday lunches, long wait for drinks one person behind bar, no ice or fruit in gins, Food came with no cutlery, had to go back and ask for cutlery. my partner had hunters chicken, large piece of chicken. Was reheated and dry, no presentation, I had white bait as only thing on menu I would eat, can’t go wrong with whitebait, the other couple had 2 pizzas that they said were nice although one was served wrong but quickly rectified. All in all wouldn’t go here again

I decided to have the vegan burger “special”. Nothing special about it. Cheap, doughey bun, wouldn’t be surprised if bought from the local supermarket. Tasteless dry patty: For £15 a complete joke. Rest of the group had choices from the main menu - again all very very basic. The waiting/bar staff could not give the impression of caring any less if they tried. I can only guess this place has a guaranteed stream of business from the people on holiday, so doesn’t have to make much of an effort.

AVOID……Sunday lunch, what arrived on my plate I could’ve put it all on a serving spoon !! & £16 !! Other than it tasted fine the portions were small for even a child’s meal !! We only went back because the previous owners served amazing roast dinners & we thought we’d try it now it’s in new ownership !! What a mistake ! No starters, no desserts ! We complained & received 10% off the bill, but for the minuscule amount of food it should’ve been 50% !! Very very poor, won’t be returning ! Should’ve read the reviews before going ! What a mistake ! Do not waste your money here unless they significantly up their game !!

To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Vegan burger very dry, served on a bun with a slice of tomato and two tiny pieces of lettuce. Came with onion rings and flavourless chips. I had ordered a side salad, which was okay but nothing special, at least it provided some moisture so I could eat half of the burger, My partner ordered slow roasted lamb shank which supposedly came with roasted vegetables. It arrived in a sea of gravy with no evidence of roasted vegetables, after fishing in the ocean of gravy, my partner found what he thought was possibly a piece of carrot and a small amount of cabbage. Overpriced, poor quality food, we will definitely not be returning.

I don't often write a negative review. My partner my son and myself went for lunch here yesterday. My partner had the lamb, my son had a burger and I had cajun chicken burger. My partner was offered mint sauce, but the waiter came back and said they had run out! The burger meal was OK. My chicken was burnt and very dry. While serving mine, the waiter pushed an onion ring onto my plate that was hanging over the edge with his fingers! We asked for ketchup and mayo which was brought to us. The ketchup was all but empty. We were brought another bottle with the plastic bit under the lid still on the bottle! No one came to ask if all was OK. I found all of this unacceptable especially given the price we paid and won't be returning

4 family members went to eat after choosing their selected evening meal from the online menu. On arrival, 3 of the 4 dishes were not available, including the seafood platter and lamb shank (the higher priced choices off the menu). Very disappointed that the whole family had to leave and eat elsewhere after ordering drinks and a bottle of wine that we had to take with us. If you intend to eat here, I suggest you call ahead and check what they have in stock or you may be duped into sitting down, ordering drinks and be then told the menu options advertised are unavailable.

Visited here with a groupon this evening with family and had a nice 2 course meal. Lovely setting and nice country feel especially the open log fire. If I’m honest, had I been able to view the menu before booking, I would have avoided it due to lack of healthy non meat mains options and menu items such as prawn linguine and vegetable salad being mentioned on groupon but not actually on the menu. Non the less, I had the butternut squash soup starter and vegan burger main which were nice. The young man running the bar and restaurant was very helpful, friendly and attentive which is always a bonus! Undecided if would warrant a return visit but enjoyed my evening, just think there is room for improvement with the food menu as would be nice to see some healthier options on there.

We've been coming to this piece of Norfolk Broads heaven for 20+ years. Despite changes to owners & interior, it remains an idyllic hotspot for locals like us & the tourist trade - all of whom seem welcome. We came here on NYE & opened a bar tab and enjoyed the typically amazing Woodfordes Wherry along with Vegetarian Burger of cranberry, parsnip & gin; together with the classic 6oz beef burger. Both came beautifully presented with onion rings on a spike. Fries served in cute buckets. We had a shrimp starter as a main course accompaniment, which was no fuss to the staff, & so tasty.Waitress really nice & friendly, likewise bar staff servers. Toilets (often the key indicator of how clean the back of house is -cellarage & kitchens etc) were spotless, as has been the case for 20+ years.Theres an outdoor pizza den, open in summer, which we fully intend to utilise. We love the Malsters.

We arrived at around 12.30. Food took around 30mins to arrive no problems with that. We both had beef roasts. The beef was lovely and nice veg, however the roast potatoes tasted really strange. I'm not sure if they are fried or how they are done but can't say they were overly pleasant. As I said though the rest was really nice.Probably would not visit again as I do think £13.00 is too much for a roast.

Arrived at the pub, about 330, food was not served till 6, so we decided to stay for a few drinks. Atmosphere was quite good, staff friendly even the pubs cat was friendly. My husband went up to order food at about 620, and didn’t have my selection, so he ordered me a steak medium well done, explaining he didn’t want any blood in it but not burnt either!!! When the steak arrived, from the first cut at the edge there was blood, so my husband took it back and they said they would cook a new one. When it came back it didn’t look like an 8oz steak and looked like it had the same cut mark on it that I had made in the first steak. I only noticed because I had cut it at an angle. My husband really not happy by this point went back to the bar to complain about it. The landlord, then came rushing out of nowhere, saying he heard my husband order the steak medium rare, after 23 years of marriage and a few steaks sent back in this time, why would he order medium rare. The landlord then asked us to leave or he will call the police, because he didn’t like my husbands raised voice. We were getting our things together and he even picked on our 15 year old son who is on crutches as he broke his leg in 3 places 2 months ago and can’t move the quickest, by saying that includes you. We were asked not to return. So if you go to this establishment I would advise you not to complain about the restricted and expensive menu.

We were recommended that the food here was brilliant and so weeks before our trip on the Broads we booked a table so we weren’t disappointed. As we were on a boat we tried to moor nearby but everywhere was full so we went to Acle and moored by the Ferry Inn. Undeterred we booked a return taxi to the Maltsters. The trip was £50 return in a taxi but if the food was going to be good it would be a treat. IT WASN’T. On arrival we were produced with a list of things that weren’t on the menu tonight - no steak, no cod, no sausages, no chicken and leak pudding - and the list went on. We grudgingly chose our food. My son had the enchiladas and said they were lovely. Myself and our eldest son had Prawn Linguine - severely average with huge chunks of sun dried tomato and generally just bland nothingness. My husband was reduced to having Scampi - well Scampi is Scampi. Not exactly a treat. Anyway... we spent £76 and were told by our server that they had an exceptionally busy weekend and that’s why so much was off the menu - this was Monday night and I’m not local but I’d assume shops open on Mondays in Norfolk and good as simple as fish could have been purchased before Monday night? I’m sure this was not representative of the usual offering but it would have been more sensible to not do food than offer something so average. By the time we left the staff could verbally list what was left on the menu... shameful.I can only give a review that reflects my experience and I’m just totally disappointed.

This place used to be amazing. It’s clearly under new ownership as there are differences - it’s much more ‘pub’ with pub food now, rather than pub with restaurant. The usual choices, quite well cooked but quite ordinary. No specials board. Lacklustre lighting and layout. Bare tables. Very bright lights behind the bar. No drinks menu???? There’s not much inviting stuff other than an open fire. That said the food was alright. Same prices as the fur and feathers at Salford broad though. I wish we had gone there, it’s amazing! Nice staff. Loud locals. So worth a visit if you’re at Ranworth broad but no longer a destination. And the local shop is closed after October 27th so ranworth is probably a miss in the winter, along with the pub.

We have been here many times in the past couple of years and as we have family visiting we decided to eat here this evening what a disappointment menu was very limited and most of the dishes on the menu were unavailable it took 4 choices to find something they actually had ended up paying £14.00 for a burger I didn’t want which I could have got locally for half the price and was very poor quality The only positive was the young lady who served us that kept trying to be cheerful every time she had to tell me the food I chose was unavailable It will be a long time before we return

The pub whilst having an extensive bar restaurant menu also offers a pizza shack cooking 9 or 12 inch pizzas in their own ovens. You choose your own bases, sauce and up to 5 toppings plus cheese. The pizzas cooked to perfection and really tasty. You can eat outside or in pub and in conjunction with bar meals too. Unfortunately not available all year round but this rates amongst best pizzas anywhere in my book and far better than most.

We have visited this pub way over 30 times over the years and its always been a firm favourite, we visited yesterday evening and we were so disappointed at the standard of the food, we had 2 burgers and lamb koftas to share, the koftas were nice but obviously frozen. The burgers were horrible, tasteless and cheap quality, this has definitely changed since the last time we were here as we have had the burger before and enjoyed it.I really hope that they go back to being a great pub but until then we won't be back.

Staying locally to celebrate our 20th anniversary, Maltsters had a roaring fire and a friendly welcome. We ordered our drinks and meals; fish and chips and a burger. Husband said his burger was ok, but my fish was tasteless. The batter was greasy and this soaked through to the chips and peas. I informed the waitress but she didn’t offer a solution or an apology. We won’t be returning.

Staff friendly and service good, food not good. 2 Burgers £27 - Macdonalds would have been better value. Cheap supermarket onion rings and burgers, frozen chips..... the only thing that had any taste was the BBQ sauce which we paid extra for. Disappointed as we were on holiday on a hire boat, and the meal out was a treat, we didn't bother to have a desert as we felt £27 was already enough to spend on a mediocre meal - what a shame as this pub is in a lovely location as has the potential to get lots of return business - won't be ours though and we won' be recommending it. Also the ladies toilets were dirty, and although I didn't use it, the toilet brush was disgustingly filthy

Away for the week on a boating holiday, see the Maltsters a few times and decided to come for our friends birthday dinner. Not sure of times and actually arrived 15 minutes after dinner closing time, however they were happy to serve us and really pleased they were as the meal was gorgeous. Service and food were excellent and all the staff were lovely. Would highly recommend and we will be back for another meal before we leave for home

stopped halfway through our day on the boat, nice pub, staff were excellent smiling and friendly.there were a few of us so ordered the food and drinks.i had Hunters chicken, but was a bit disappointing. the chips tasted like oven chips, the onion rings were just normal frozen bread crumb covered. but the chicken was nice.it wasn't cheap either for 2 adult and 2 children meals, 2 cokes and 4 fruit shoots came to just under £50. to be honest i expected more. i get a better meal from brewers fayre and get salad and coleslaw.

We paid a visit here to get free parking for the Broads. We picked the hottest day this year ! We sat outside to sample the Pizza Den. The service was very slow. The Pizzas themselves were satisfactory.

Arrived by boat for pizza and unfortunately we left disappointed. We completed the order slips with details of what we all wanted .. looked good do far. Then we had to wait 45 minutes for four pizzas and some garlic bread. The place seemed quite quiet with less than half of the tables taken. When the order arrived, two of the pizzas were not correct and we were missing a portion of garlic bread. The pizza was also drowning in tasteless cheese - and I normally like cheese.Couldn't be bothered to try and sort out the problems as we had to return a hire boat and didn't want to wait again.

Visited here for lunch. After waiting 45 minutes for our food we asked a waitress how much longer it would be, she went to find out and never came back. When it eventually arrived the food was very bland, it’s such a shame as this pub is in a lovely position and could be so much nicer. We definitely wouldn’t go back.

We visited the pub today after being recommended by friends. The staff were really friendly but the food and the wait time let it down. We waited 50 Mins for our food to come out which considering most people were ordering pizza. The burger had hardly any salad in it and the cheese was tasteless. The lasagne was poor and the chips not good either. The location was good but that's not enough for us to return.

We have been lots of times before but always for Sunday lunch. We last came 8 months ago. Unfortunately we were disappointed with our Friday lunch time visit. It was fairly busy, lots of tables outside taken and a few indoors. We sat down at a big table (family of 5) and had to ask for it to be re-cleaned as there was left over food on it. My daughter had a 9" pizza which looked and she said tasted really good but for £9 thought it was quite expensive as nothing came with it. The other 2 children had kids sausage and mash which was a good portion for £6. My husband had the smokehouse burger which came presented very nicely. However my lasange was very plain looking. It came with 3 pieces of garlic bread which really is a bit much when eating pasta too. There was no salad and just looked very very average compared to other places locally that serve lasange. It was £12.50 too (I believe) so more expensive than other places too and it certainly wasn't worth it. So unfortunately we were disappointed and has left us unsure as to whether we will be back :(

This is a good pub that also has good food for a reasonable price with friendly service. In the outside area there is a pizza den they call it where you can order a pizza with your choice of topping, pool table and table football. Dogs are very welcome too.

Tried the new Pizza Den at the Malsters. Nice pizza, made and cooked fresh to order but with pre-prepared commercial bases. Would be better if made your own. Only complaint is the complicated payment system, you can open a tab behind the bar and pay for everything if you order food from the bar menu but if you have (which is advertised on the bar menu) you have to pay for this separately??? What makes it stranger is that due to their poor wi-fi you have to pay at the same place as if you had ordered bar food.

We really enjoyed our visits ti the Maltsters and had dinner each night. One night we were even entertained by an impromptu singing session which was great. The food is ok, probably average. They offer pizzas but they are presented in a cardboard takeaway box even if you eat it in the pub, seems a crazy waste of resources, surely a plate would be more environmentally friendly.

Stopped at Ranworth yesterday for dinner / tea as we stayed here last year and it was fantastic then. Surprised that the pub did not offer a Sunday Lunch and only offered standard menu but by no means a deal breaker. The bar manager and all the bar staff were all really helpful and the food was reasonably priced. Pizza bar is a nice touch but would have been much better to use handcooked dough and to have invested in a proper pizza oven and not the commercial electric ones. The main courses were disappointing and frozen chips and bland vegetables and could / should have been so much better. Food did not taste fresh at all and was like the mass produced meals that you find at cheap chain pubs. Such as shame as the location is fantastic and the desserts were really good (otherwise it would have been 1 star) - very well presented too but not cheap.I suspect this place survives because it is in a fantastic location. It could be amazing but isn't.

Stopped here for a quick bite in the evening whilst passing through. Limited menu, I had pie and chips. It was hot and tasty so no complaints. I sat at a small corner table and when I went to put my bag on the floor my elbow got caught up in a whole nest of cobwebs that ran floor to ceiling. Moved to a different table and when I looked at the carpet it was glistening with slug slime! Yes you read that right!! Trails and trails of slug slime all over the carpet. I went to put my bag on the chair next to me. The chairs are covered with faded pink felt like fabric that would have been all the rage in the 70s but it was thick with long hairs all trapped in the fabric. The window sills were covered with dead flies. The bar man - am I allowed to say man in these politically correct times?? The bar person / server was however very friendly, welcoming and polite. Very depressing place, definitely needs a clean and makeover.

We had a fantastic birthday lunch for my Mum. Staff members Poppy, Nicole, Carolyn and Abbie were very helpful and attentive, which made the visit very enjoyable! I had the signature burger with a side of halloumi fries; both were fantastic. My mum had the steak pie, which you can’t go wrong with, as it comes with a good portion of veg. My dad had the toad in the whole which was from the specials; it does lack veg, however he said it was great. For dessert, we had a sticky toffee pudding and a trio of dessert which we shared among us. They also made a board with a small bit of brownie that said Happy birthday on. Like i have said, the service was great and so was the food!!
