I visit on a regular basis, both as a rail traveler and when passing. The coffee lounge has recently undergone a redecoration, giving it a much brighter more cheerful appearance (not that anything was wrong before). It now also boasts a hot cupboard meaning hot pasties and sausage rolls are available. The cake display cabinet is a massive temptation, full of tasty delights. If you are catching a train from Moorthorpe, then allow some extra time for a coffee and a cake. Excellent value and service always with a smile. The cafe is a hub of the local community, with lots of regular customers and a walking group meeting there weekly.

If your catching a train from here or want a cuppa give yourself a extra 30 mins to have a bite to eat.£4.00p for a full breakfast with 1 toast and a cuppa a bargain. Egg over done and bacon but can't grumble for price.if these was done right it would of been 5stars Place was clean and not cluttered and daily papers

I got a train from Sheffield and stopped off to view the Flying Scotsman with friends. Whilst we were waiting for the Flying Scotsman to pass through, we decided to have a cup of tea and a sandwich at the Mallard cafe, we were bitterly disappointed with the service. The tea was cold, the sandwiches looked like they had seen better days, and the prices were SHOCKING. We WONT be going again that's for sure.

If you find yourself in South Elmsall, South Kirby or in the general area you will do well if you can find a better little cafe than this cafe in the station. It has a brilliant menu of wholesome home cooked food severed to you by the very pleasant staff. The food is all made to order and is great quality and amazing value for money. I found this cafe by accident while waiting for a train. It is a crying shame that it is hidden away like this. The whole world should be told about it. It is a restored former station building, once known as "The Mallard", there is ample parking and trains to watch. And in the summer there are steam trains to marvel at.

It had been a long day and we were travelling back to Doncaster in the early evening. We wanted to have something to eat as it was too late to start cooking and went here as it was near the station. It is a Hungry Horse pub - like a Wetherspoons - that has only opened in the last year.First thing to notice was the cleanliness. It was virtually spotless from the dining area, to the bar and toilets. We checked out the menu and there was a wide selection to suit every taste. Anyone who could not find something to their liking would not have gone out for a meal, just looking for something to complain about.Service at the bar, including ordering the meals was quick, efficient. and friendly. The barman was happy to spend time explaining to me the beers I was not familiar with. The meals arrived reasonably quickly and the waitress serving us was friendly, helpful and attentive without being in your face. The portion of coleslaw was very small, but she went and got some more without any hesitation.I had the Full Monty Mixed Grill. It was nicely cooked and there was plenty of it. Lovely sausages and the rest of the meat was pretty good. The steak was a little tough, but was cooked as ordered. It would have been nice to have more than just one mushroom (I do like mushrooms), but this did not detract from my overall enjoyment. My partner had the burrito. A lack of meat with most of the filling being rice and vegetable. But it was flavoursome and she was happy with it. I may not have been so generous in my opinion as I am basically a carnivore. But the important thing here is she liked it.The overall cost was just over £21, so less than £11 each including a drink. You cannot complain at that.Overall good value for money and we willcertainly return. And thanks to the waitress who looked after us. She was a credit to the place.

Very much a old style station café. Good honest food at reasonable prices and fairly decent coffee to boot. The staff are friendly and my mother always stops of here, on her way to visit us - that in itself speaks volumes as she is quite particular. Stop off on your way past and help support a local business.

This establishment is located in the old railway station buildings on the platform of Moorthorpe Station. Inside it has the clean, uncluttered feel of many modern station waiting rooms - not surprisingly. There is a glazed "gallery" overlooking the platform with 2 additional rooms with tables and seating.Only had a drink on this occasion, but the menu is large and inexpensive and I look forward to trying something soon.Staff were friendly and service quick, made for a pleasant experience.a little nostalgic for me as the former Mallard pub was where I met my wife on the evening we first went out, some years ago. Lots of change since.

This is a great cafe in a renovated building on Moorthorpe Railway Station which is on the Leeds to Sheffield, via Rotherham, line. The building was nearly derelict a few years ago but was taken over by the Town Council and renovated to a high specification. The cafe is on the Leeds bound side and is a great place for either a coffee or a meal. Breakfasts are £3.50 with either tea or coffee and are cooked on a griddle. Besides the usual ingredients you get four rounds of toast. Other meals are also available and there are specials for OAPs. The owner is friendly and approachable and makes everybody welcome.

Passed by here many times before but as the main part seemed a little run down we hadn't given it a second thought. This time however, We were in need of a break as our journey had been fraught with heavy traffic so we pulled in and were so glad that we did. A very pleasant refreshment stop, with helpful, friendly and smiling staff meant that we stayed a little longer than intended. We shall definitely call in again when travelling this route.

Wrong drinks served (and cold) then wrong food served, oh and we felt we're over charged! Won't go back.
