The Maharaja in Hillingdon

Had our NYE meal at the Maharaja having not visited for some time. The restaurant is under new management now. The food was excellent and plentiful, whilst the service was great. A number of ‘on the house’ extras really made a difference and enhanced the experience for us. Would definitely recommend a visit to the Maharaja!!

Nice food and good service but if you go midweek the place is empty and has no atmosphere. Maybe they need to offer incentive to attract midweek customers. Maybe but on get one free or free bottle of wine or something?

Lovely staff, couldn’t have made us feel any more welcome. Gorgeous food too….will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

Used to eat at this place a few years back so for my birthday we thought we would revisit, what a disappointment, when this restaurant first opened the food was excellent, the food now is terrible, stale Popadums, my starter was inedible the worst king prawn purée I have ever had, people on next table were complaining about the food which never goes down well, we decided to not bother with our courses, verdict is to Avoid this place, bad service, terrible food don’t waste your money we won’t be going back

I ordered my food online for collection when I arrived to collect my order I was told they hadn’t received my order, I showed the manager my confirmation email with my food order and the fact I had paid and was told I had to contact ‘chef online’ as they hadn’t sent the order again I said I have placed my order and paid.. I sat there for 15mins on the phone to this company and while I was on the phone and customer came in and was told the same thing so clearly there is a technical fault. The manager refused to accept this and it was my fault, when trying to talk to the manager again he just walked away from me absolutely disgusting behaviour! The two gentlemen working the front of the house were amazing and I couldn’t fault them but again they were just following their managers words!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Hi i am sorry to say the manager was very rude and we went for a family dinner in the restaurant. The food was horrible and arrived very late and cold . Instead to go here better find Macdonald. Not going to recommend to any one

I visited the restaurant last night with my friends,and I am totally disappointed,the food was not great. Tikka masala tasted disgusting! It was full of red color and it tasted very sweet. Biriyani was tasteless.I wouldnt recommend this place.

Spent last evening with friends at the Maharaja Just to say the service was fabulous with very attentive staff. The restaurant was clean the food was very good Kind staff offering after dinner drinks on the house, with plenty After- eights . Very good value for money. Will go again happy to recommend.

The food is good the service is excellent. But every time me and my family visit the restaurant it is very very cold . I think they don't have any heating system in the restaurant but there is a heater in the hallway which is a joke but would come back fr the food

Not sure if we ate on the first day under new management (we are not local) but the food and service was very, very good. I choose a trout dish that was cooked to perfection. Would most certainly return when next in the area.

Picked up an order last night. Even on takeout the staff were extremely attentive. THE PORTIONS ARE HUGE. Ordered a massala and rice and honestly it's probably going to be my next three meals. Food is very highly flavored. Wouldn't recommend if you're on a diet. Lots of ghee used. But that just made it better.

The food just lacked any trace of spices, the pilau rice was wet & watery. Bad bad experience. Was a regular customer some years ago, until portion sizes started getting smaller (especially on a Friday or Saturday night) Although the food quality was very good, Just thought I would give it another try (as it is a Monday night and Mari Masala in Northwood hills are closed on Monday) I have never before been so dissatisfied with a meal that I have felt the need to leave a review

This Restaurant is going down hill every time we try it... tonight will be the last time we order from them.. probably the worst curry we’ve had!!! All the dishes were just full of water..

Went to the Maharaja last night for the 1st time and was thankful we did. The food was fantastic, possibly one of the best Indian Curries we have ever had, and we have had lots over the years both in the UK and in Asia, it was very fresh, hot both spicy and temperature and extremely flavoursome. The waiters were excellent, attentive without being overbearing and the interior was very good too.

I visited Maharajah last night with my daughter and her partner and thoroughly enjoyed the lamb Rezeelah Korai. It was absolutely succulent! The accompanying dry mixed vegetable curry, and plain basmati rice were perfect. And the raitha, lime pickle, chutney, and chopped onion was amazing. Please pay this fine establishment a visit. Superb food and wonderful service

We have been going to Maharaja for many years now and it is still our go to Indian restaurant! The service is fantastic, very friendly staff and and always offering extras on the house. The food is wonderful, both to eat in and as a take away, really fantastic selection and always tastes amazing. Would highly recommend Maharaja to anyone looking for a great Indian restaurant in the area.

The food was fantastic and delicious, service was friendly. The food was served fast as it was quiet busy. Complements to the chelf and staff for making use feel really welcome.

We Tried Maharaja Restaurant as a eat out government scheme, the food was great, freshly cooked, taste and well presented. The waiters were attentive and the service overall was excellent as the restaurant was busy. Would definitely come back.

Visited the Maharaja on 12 August which was an evening offering the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme. They were extremely busy and although we had to wait a little while for our food, they couldn’t do enough for us. Amazing, attentive and polite service, and the food was fantastic! We’ll definitely be visiting again.

We have been coming here for about 3 years and we have never been disappointed, the food is always so tasty and the staff can't do enough for you, we enjoy coming here as the atmosphere is really nice and you are always made to feel so welcome.

Had delivery, food so horrible, rice and chicken korma watery, huge chicken chunks disgusting and chewy, no flavour, korma sauce also full of coconut pieces, onion barji’s flat and hot, nan bread flat, skinny and tasteless. Main problem water all on plate half way through meal.

This is one of those Indian restaurants that caters for Westerners. The food isn't remotely authentic and is cooked without any finesse using the same stodgy base for every curry on the menu, but unless you're South Asian, you probably won't notice. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff are friendly. I'd love to have an authentic local curry house, but alas, the nearest such establishment is Taste of Lahore in Watford.

Food excellent, service very slow, mistakes with the bill over charged. Such a shame because the food was very good, wouldn't return.

After a couple of recent takeaways we decided to have a meal in the restaurant and we were not disappointed, the food was absolutely delicious, the staff were very friendly and overall it was an excellent meal and very reasonably priced.

The best Indian restaurant I've eaten in around northwood area.

As an Indian this is probably the worst Indian food I have tasted. Lots of oil, big garlic chunks in the food and sheek kebabs were extremely poor. If that was not enough we were overcharged by the waiter!

I been in this Restaurant few times over years and last time this month I believe was the last time ever. It was not impressive in the past but now it definitely not worth going. In comparison to many other Indian restaurants in Northwood area this is my least favourite. Portions are relatively small, food is very ordinary. Go somewhere else.

Visited for the first time in a little while. The ambience was awful, the music was a little too loud and the 'din' was playing on a loop, I usually love a bit of music in the background. The 'new' red LED lighting was a no,no...it makes the place look very dark and dingy, it was like being in a hothouse/or photolab. The front door was propped open with chairs so the small amount of day light streaming through just highlighted all the flies circling in the air. Couldn't even read the menu due to the poor lighting so left someone else to order.The drinks orders got muddled (for a party of three) had to send one back as it was flat, poppadums were late to the table and visibly burnt. The two waiters were a little clumsy at times getting in each others way, making assumptions over who had ordered which starter etc and we all ended up swapping dishes again after they had swapped them round.Food was overdone with garnish and everything seemed to be served with finely chopped raw onion, and lots of cooked cucumber. I don't like raw onion or hot cucumber, but couldn't see it until it was too late. The dishes were not to our liking and in our opinion the food has gone down hill drastically. It was an expensive meal given that we did not order too many dishes.Truthfully we couldn't wait to finish our meal and leave.All three of us were queuing for the bathroom within two-three hours and have up all through night. Not the birthday treat I was expecting..Overall disappointing, it is such a shame as it used to be a wonderful restaurant, friendly staff and lovely food.

Surprisingly empty ...as the food was delightful. Service and staff were excellent and we even had an extra dish to try as an on the house gesture. Cannot fault it, being recently back from India, trust me, the food is very good.

Only one visit, but impressed. The food was very well prepared and the place was well decorated. Vegetarians catered for, but it's mostly meat on the menu. This seemed to suit the English curry crowd present. The front of house staff were completely charming. Definitely somewhere we'll visit again. It's good value for a restaurant of this type - old-style India or Pakistani to British tastes. A bit more attention to some details. For example, some of the light switches needed a clean. Little things, but noticeable.

We have been coming here for 20 years and it is our go-to restaurant. The prices have gone up recently, and our favourite dishes have changed taste and presentation which is a shame. It was still good. We always go at 6pm when it’s empty as the tables are crammed in and it feels like you and sitting with the people on the next table and it’s too close for us! Still recommend it though

This long established local Indian restaurant has recently changed hands but not for the better. We have used the restaurant irregularly over the years but a recent visit was disappointing. The decor is tired and the staff though pleasant were not that interested in the customers. Not that the restaurant was busy. But the let down was the mediocre quality of the cooking. Even the Tandoori Chicken had little flavour and the Mains likewise. Not expensive but not good value, which is a pity.

As has been the case whenever we have visited, we had a wonderful time. All of the food was delicious, came in excellent portion sizes and is part of a large menu with plenty of choice.They were very gracious hosts, especially once it was known that we were there for my wife's birthday.

It was hilarious- Fawlty Towers come to life. From the couple swearing and arguing loudly in the corner, to the food being late and then dropped on the floor. An unforgettable evening for all the wrong reasons.

Looks a bit tired from the outside and although it might not be the smartest place the menu is very creative and the food was just superb. The presentation, taste, quantity and quality of the food was excellent. The prices were most reasonable and we will go there again.

I’ve ordered takeout Friday evening. When I arrived to pick up the food, An old trick of “sorry card machine is not working”, cost me an inconvenient trip to cash machine. Food was very basic, I cook better Indian. This is a below average restaurant in Northwood.

I came to the Restuarent with my Family and was pleased with the service and the quality of the food was really good. Customer Service was friendly and provided excellent service to my family. The place was clearn and the food had a lot of flavour and taste. I would recommend the Indian restaurant to my friends.

We visited here on the way home at the end of a trip away, and although we had made a booking, it seemed to come as a surprise when we arrived. We were hastily ushered to the window table which was squeezed into the space and draughty. Add to this, there was a window just above the table which staff opened to let the smoke out from the kitchen. Service was erratic and at times was curt and all too much bother. Food varied from ok to over cooked. Overall, the place needs a refurb and staff need a training session! Not in a hurry to return.

We had what I thought was an exceptional mixed starter and our main was very nice We went on a Saturday evening we booked an early sitting it was quiet but as the evening went on it was getting busier

Really nice and friendly old fashioned Indian restaurant without any flashy contemporary bling. Chefs specials are best - Maharaja chicken special, and mustard chicken are excellent as is the king prawn patia. Value for money and authentic.

Used to go here for eat-in and takeaway. I hadn't been for about two years when I went on Sunday for takeaway. Very quiet but it was only 6:15pm so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Ordered and popped out for 20 minutes to pub across the road. When I got back my food was ready and bagged -up. I offered the waiter a credit card - he said it was cash only because they had 'cash problems'. I said I wanted to pay by credit card and he should have said it was cash only when I ordered. He changed his story and said the till and credit card machine weren't working. All very dodgy but I paid him £51 (if his boss reads this he might want to ask him about it) cash and took the food. The food was rubbish - nothing tasted fresh and the cooking was amateurish. A real shame that such a nice restaurant for over 20 years has sunk to such depths of poor service and dreadful food.

This restaurant has just been awarded 1 in hygiene cleanliness by the local council. Food is awful everything is just cooked in the same red sauce. Service not as good

Food was not bad but the service was appalling from particularly one person. Made us feel very unwelcome, which is a surprise for an Indian restaurant. The second waiter however was the complete opposite. Mixed feelings regarding my first time here!!!

What happened to this restaurant?! The food was awful - it tasted like it had been poured out of a jar, the service was slow and lacklustre and the staff had a bad attitude and dirty uniforms. I have NEVER experienced such a terrible evening at this restaurant. Such a shame, I haven't been this disappointed for a long time.

Disappointing. We have been many times over the years but this time the food was not hot (temperature), the papodoms were oily, the beer was sour.

Best Indian food I’ve had. So consistent too, always excellent.

The Maharaja is a standard on the list of places visited by those working or living in the Northwood area. The food is hot and reliably tasty; little changes, over the years though the service can be a little up and down.

This place accepts online orders via JustEat according to their website. On the last two occasions, we placed an order only for them to decline it half an hour later. We have now learned from JustEat that in fact the Maharaja has not been accepting orders from anyone for several days, but they haven't indicated that - so people like us have been making card payments and then having to wait days to get their money back. They are also not answering their phone (it's constantly engaged).

Amazing food and very warm and friendly stuff. There is no allergy menu and not all the stuff can assist but besides that a very good place!

A trip to the 1980's with everything in a gloopy red sauce. Service was quick and friendly. There are so many restaurants serving authentic tasty Indian food in a modern surroundings that this seems dated and out of touch.

We have been going to this restaurant on and off for over 15 years. Sadly, it's under new management and the food is now very average and the atmosphere is unfriendly. We went on a Thursday evening and it was empty, only people on one other table. At the end of our meal they tried to overcharge us by £25, it was so blatantly obvious they didn't expect us to check the accuracy of the bill. We won't be going back.

This place was recommended by a few people I know, and based on their recommendations I was looking forward to some great quality food. Because of that that I was a bit disapponted. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. My Jalfrezi looked exactly the same as my wife's Pathia. They did tast different, mainly because tere was so much sugar in the pathia and a lot (leally a lot) of whole chillis in the Jalfrezi. The side of tarka dahl was good though, and the starters and service were fine.
