The Magpie in Spelthorne

We held our Fathers wake here. Lovely bright function room with views of the river Thames. Helpful friendly staff and delicious food. We would not hesitate to use The Magpie again for future events.

Our business held a Sales Awards night at the Magpie in February. Organising the evening with Kat was so easy. She was very accommodating and had some great ideas to make the night amazing. The venue looked fantastic, the food was excellent and staff were great - a really wonderful night was enjoyed by over 40 members of our team. Thank you once again to everyone at The Magpie for a fab night, we will definitely be looking forward to returning for future drinks/meals/events!!

We had my husband’s 40th Birthday party at The Magpie. The venue was perfect upstairs. It’s lovely as the pub overlooks the river. The staff were amazing, helped me with the decorations, and were so helpful and welcoming, I couldn’t have asked for for!!! I love this pub and so pleased we chose it for his party.

We held an awards night for our company at the Magpie in February. The venue, food and staff were fantastic and a great night was enjoyed by all. Special thanks to Cat for all her help in organising everything with us. We had over 40 team members at the event and I'm sure you will have gained some new regulars from it. :-) Thank you once again, looking forward to hosting future events with you.

I had a lovely lunch with my family at the magpie, the food was amazing and well presented. The customer service was fantastic and will definitely be returning.

I hosted my sister in laws baby shower on Sunday and I am still overwhelmed by how amazing this venue is. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive, the views were incredible, the food was superb, the atmosphere was just stunning. Everyone had such a lovely day and especially the mummy to be. Can’t thank the magpie team enough for all their efforts and hospitality, I’m going to have every event here in future 5* !

As a regular I should probably mark The Magpie down so you don’t come here and ruin it for me. They keep the beer well, care about the choice and the food is very good. The people behind the bar are friendly and the service excellent. The garden by the river is a gem. Can’t fault it sadly…

A first time visitor to The Magpie due to their inaugural Vinyl Night. Lovely pub, good staff, nice atmosphere, spacious, and welcoming with a good selection of ales. The Vinyl Night DJs played a great variety of tracks in the upstairs room, creating a lively, feel-good vibe. While the downstairs bar provided a place to relax and chat away from the music, if preferred. Look forward to returning.

I came for the monthly Two for Joy vinyl night. Loved it. What I thought was an informal vinyl thing became an impromptu club night. Will be back next month. Great music, great DJs, great fun.

Turned up for a music night on Thursday was excellent. not only a great location and pub but the music was sublime a proper music night with lots of friendly faces loving their tunes. 5 star x

Afternoon party for about 20 after a christening. Lovely pub on the banks of the Thames and opposite Sunbury's beautiful Walled Garden (with public car park). We had a room with wonderful views over the pub's terrace to the river. Friendly and efficient staff. Katarzyna was great in helping us to organise the event. Really excellent food (sandwiches, finger food) to go with the very good and reasonably priced house champagne. Tremendous place for a small party. This spot is amazing for lunch, we have quick service and the staff were very welcoming , especially our waiter Kat she was very quick to get our drinks even when she was very busy and was very charismatic, our lunch was superb would recommend 100% !!

We've taken three groups of friends to lunch here, this year. All 3 trips were excellent. The staff are friendly and the service is very good. The food is good to very good, judged by a high standard, and it is always superbly presented. The garden overlooking the river is excellent and incredibly relaxing. The location is awesome but the food and service very disappointing. I ordered a burger and the side portion of the chips was aimed at a toddler rather than an adult. My friend ordered a sharer and it was definitely a one person's portion. We waited 30 min to order a dessert (ended up going to the bar as no one and coming around). We waited 45 min for it, never appeared, even though we asked 2 waiters. It was added to our bill though. Good vibe for drinks

Amazing place, incredibly dog friendly. This is our fourth visit and each time the food has been impeccable, we’ve tried half the dishes between us and our friends and both vegetarian and non vegetarian have been so tasty; and the service has been excellent. Very large servings of good quality British traditional foods presented in new ways. Very clean. Extremely friendly and warm service. Little slow in delivery but not too long. Felt a bit like home from home. Would be even better in daytime as it's situated by the River Thames.

Myself and my family have been eating and drinking at this pub for years. Middle aged lady who works on the welcome desk was extremely rude and clearly doesn’t understand social distancing. I attended the pub with my brother, mum, mum’s fiancé and my grandparents. Upon entry, the lady was rude, snobby and made us feel like we had to be grateful to be there, despite the hospitality industry struggling to stay afloat due to the current circumstances. On numerous occasions, the customer service she delivered failed to meet even minimum standard expected. Twice, the lady came within 1 metre of my grandparents, even placing her hand on my Nan’s shoulder. Furthermore, at a later point, the lady came and stood right at our table with another customer who seemed like her friend. I politely asked her to move away from our table and her response was ‘we are talking about a booking tomorrow’. So what? Why do you have to stand at our table as if we aren’t there? Not acceptable. I said please do it over there and at a safe distance, but she wasn’t interested and continued to speak to us with a foul attitude. Despite spending over £145 that afternoon, the French manager wasn’t interested either. I simply couldn’t believe it. Upon speaking to other bar staff, I was informed that there had been other complaints about the lady previously and she has only been in the job two months! The lady is clearly new to this industry and is either not cut out for it, or needs extensive training on how to provide positive customer service. As a middle aged women, she should know how to behave better. She’s not exactly an 18 year old fresh out of college. Despite being a loyal customer, I will not be returning in future. Shame.

We were underwhelmed. The Sunday roast (beef) came out cold, and whilst the carrot (singular) and potatoes were overcooked they greens were undercooked. They forgot the horseradish and made mistakes in the drinks order (there were only two of us!).

Our first visit back since the beginning of the pandemic and just over the moon that the food is as incredible as always. I hope I will still get a table after writing this but I challenge anyone that this is the best beef roast dinner anywhere. If I could give the chefs 100 stars I would. The service and setting back it up even more. Two members of staff always go above and beyond, Donna and Dennis - Both a credit to your business. They could not do anymore for you if they tried and the welcome you get from Donna and the service you get from Dennis just makes this place even more special. Cant wait to start being regular guests again - so pleased you are back and better than ever :)

We’ve been coming to the Magpie for well over 20 years now and consider it to be our local despite the other pub options available in Sunbury of which, despite the village’s size, there are many.The location of the Magpie is superb being, as it is, directly situated on the river with a terrace overlooking the water’s edge. Obviously, the terrace really comes into its own during the warmer Summer months although there are covered areas (some with heaters) that make sitting outside an option even on cooler Spring or Autumn evenings.One of the Magpie’s greatest assets is its staff who are, without exception, friendly, welcoming and helpful. They go out of their way to look after you and have been especially attentive during the current times of imposed distancing and restricted movement. A ‘local’ is somewhere where you like to be recognised and welcomed as a friend and the staff at the Magpie don’t disappoint in this respect.Although current restrictions have had an impact on choice, the Magpie usually has a good selection of draught beers with Greene King staples being accompanied by a range of ever changing ‘guest’ beers. The Magpie also accepts the CAMRA card if you're a member.We’re probably not best qualified to comment on the food since we tend to use the pub as somewhere to meet up with friends/mates for a drink – not surprising really given that we grew up in the age of the traditional ‘boozer’ when food options were limited to a bag of pork scratchings or a packet of crisps! However, on the few occasions when we have been in for a bite to eat, the food has never failed to surpass expectations and if we were looking for somewhere local to have lunch, the Magpie would be at the top of the list. I would recommend booking, though, especially during the current (October 2020), more challenging, times.In summary, a great pub in a wonderful location with excellent staff.

My family and I pre booked the magpie for Sunday lunch. From the minute we walked through the door we were greeted by a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome! She very carefully explained the COVID safe procedures and what was expected from us.. we knew where we stood straight away and felt that we were in a very safe and clean place. We were given a choice in tables, we chose the upper deck bar area over looking the Thames. We were introduced to our server Dennis who was extremely attentive and the service was sharp and seamless. Now the only disappointment was the food for the price we paid we expected a higher standard. We have eaten there in previous years and it was outstanding. I’m giving the magpie full marks though because we have never felt so welcome and so safe in a place in such a long time! Thank you

As a local and regular customer, The Magpie is a quality pub. It has very good Covid measures in place, making the pub feel like a safe environment to socialise in. The garden offers beautiful views of the river, and the food is good, often quick to be served. The staff are great too, Donna is always very friendly and welcoming as a host.
