Quality of food isn't a quality afternoon tea e.g. supermarket basic white bread, even though prices are quite high. Drinks were good. Friendly staff. Couldn't recommend for an afternoon tea experience.

This is a very small quirky tea shop. Very handily placed behind the Abbey. The afternoon tea was excellent, freshly made sandwiches to your choice of fillings, warm scones, with fresh fruit jam and cream, large slices of freshly baked cake. Bottomless pots of tea (various options) all served by very friendly staff. Thoroughly recommended.

Unfortunately we didn't like it at all. The afternoon tea costs quite a bit at £24.50 per person, but the taste was (almost) not convincing. The brie and cranberry sandwiches tasted very strange and there was a hair in one of them, the Biscoff cake was dry and the cream was too sweet. Only the scone convinced me. My friend's carrot cake was probably good. Both the fact that you could order unlimited hot drinks and the friendly service were positive.

Very cutely decorated tea shop, food was subpar in my opinion, pretty basic options. I got a sandwich which comes with crisps, but I asked for some fruit instead and they happily provided me with, but it seems the grapes were not washed before served. The strawberries however were cut up and plated nicely. Overall, good aesthetics and looks if you want a quirky fun place to eat, but the food/drinks are nothing special.

Food was lovely but unfortunately the staff let the place down. I got ignored at the counter and then she actually admitted to forgetting my order when my mum had to go in asking for it! Our food was sat on the side waiting. Kinda put a downer on the day but luckily we didn’t let it stop us. Please be nicer though hun, that experience was not fair on me or my mum 😊

A quirky, very small tea room with an Alice in Wonderland theme. It's situated at the back of The Abbey, a short stroll from Pulteney Bridge. There are a few outdoor tables but I would recommend booking a table as there are only 4 tables inside. We'd pre-booked a table for afternoon tea. Our birthday girl was appropriately sat on a red, velvet throne. The afternoon tea here costs £24.50 a head. It includes a selection of freshly made sandwiches (we had tuno mayo & cucumber, egg mayo & tomato & Brie & cranberry but you can pick & choose if you'd rather have a different choice. Then you have either a fruit or plain scone, which they offer to warm up, with jam & clotted cream. You finish with a big slice of cake which you choose from the daily selection. We had Biscoff, Victoria sandwich & carrot but, as we were so full, we asked them to box the cakes up to take away. Afternoon tea comes with unlimited hot drinks which is a great offering. If you can't manage an afternoon tea, you can have a cream tea for £6.99 or choose savoury sandwiches / toasties/ paninis/ jacket potatoes or just slice of cake. Our waitress was friendly & helpful. She wore gloves when handling our scones etc & was very attentive to our needs.

This is the cheapest afternoon tea ever. Good value for money and if you like the Mad Hatter theme you’d like this. It’s a high st side shop so has two tables inside and a couple outside. The menu is confusing so if you follow the waitress who served us you might end up with additional items to the afternoon tea’s selection and incur extra. Otherwise decent.

After a recent visit to Bath, I went to the Mad Hatter's Tea Party Cafe to buy an ice-cream with my family. The staff were very friendly, not realising that I had left my phone on the counter, it wasn't until later that day I realised that I had mislaid my phone. Panicking, I phoned my number in desperation when thankfully a young lady who served us at the shop, answered the phone. She was a lifesaver. It's great to know there are still honest people in this world.

The food was flawless, made fresh on site and completely unpretentious, it's a quirky little venue, expect to be cozy but also be assured of a friendly and genuine welcome, it's a family run venture and that makes it just that little bit special and very genuine. Yes it's a little pricy, but and it's a BIG but, that's only due to its location, it is smack bang in a tourist centre and prices anywhere in the world will always reflect this and I have no doubt rent and rates will be higher.

This cafe is tiny inside. I was alone thankfully, and squeezed on a small table. If I sat on the inside seat no one could get past the table. I had a slice of cake and pot of tea and was charged £8.45. The slice of cake was reasonable in size, but nothing out of the ordinary, but the price I felt was excessive. I was expecting to pay a little more, but not £1.45 over what I consider a Bath city centre price. Adding this cost to the cramped conditions, and the fact that there are many, much better cafes in Bath, I would give this one a miss, even if you're a fan of Lewis Carroll!!

Save your time and go somewhere else. This place has very little seating and room inside which means you constantly feel in the way. Worse, despite the limited number of tables to serve, service is shambolic. I'd ordered cream tea and one of the servers took away my pot before I was even done with it saying she could always make me a fresh one later and it seemed it was because they didn't have enough pots and needed to serve someone else. Similarly my scone was delayed and arrived quite a bit later than the tea and when it came it was the wrong scone (plain when I'd asked for raisin.) Neither was it particularly fresh. Lastly, I suppose to go with their quirky decor, they serve tea in HUGE mugs which just makes the experience feel cheap and the tea get cold much faster. I'll not be stopping here again.

The best afternoon tea in Bath! 🫖 FOOD Everything is delicious — particularly the sandwiches, scones and carrot cake. Among these, the carrot cake surprised us, so moist and not overly sweet, the best we've had in the U.S. or Europe. 🍰 And for the sandwiches (we got basil pesto, ham & cheese, brie & grape), each was exquisite. Basil pesto was my favorite (you could taste the fresh basil) and ham & cheese was his (really good cheese in England, in general). 🥪 Drinks are standouts, too: excellent chai and cappuccino. Adding some fresh fruit was a nice touch to complement the sweets. 🍓 VALUE Great value for the price. 💷 This was our top pick due to the reviews anyway, but when we priced out other afternoon teas in Bath, all were over £25 per person. We took what we didn't finish and had a picnic in Royal Victoria Park that evening, so it served for two meals. Loved the bottomless hot drinks, too — you're not limited to tea. ☕ SERVICE Incredibly friendly. 😊 She checked in on us regularly to see what we might need, and even though we were just walk-ins, she seated us right away. They do accept reservations, which might be a good idea. 🗓️ AMBIANCE The Wonderland theming is charming and Instagramable. 📷 Have you ever seen a teacup the size of your head? This alone is pretty cool. The decor inside is lovely and so is the seating outdoors, where we dined in mellow late September with a view of the 16th-century abbey. It was relaxing and indulgent, exactly as vacation should be. To sum up, this was my top experience from our 4 days in Bath (except perhaps the Roman Baths themselves, but those got a two millennia head start). ❤️ Only wish I could do it all over again. Absolutely magical!! ✨

Where do I start I would love to give this amazing place 10 gold stars the hospitality is outstanding the food is out of this world the homemade lemonade is so refreshing I took my husband as a surprise for his birthday we had the afternoon tea, the sandwiches were so tasty and plenty of them you haven't tasted cakes like the ones at this wonderful quirky place it's only small but the quirkiness and homely feel make up for it , the owner Shamila and her staff cant do enough for you. Great value for money. I would highly recommend this place if you visit Bath but word of advice book a table if having afternoon tea and dont have much for breakfast beforehand.

Lovely place for a cream tea - called in on my way from Prior Park to do some shopping and it was the great pick me up - quite small inside - some seats outside on a nice day Close to centre of town

Had an extremely pleasant afternoon tea here! The food was delicious (absolutely LOVED the Biscoff cake and the scones!) and the presentation was lovely. We sat outside and were regularly checked on by extremely friendly, attentive staff to make sure we had everything we needed. As a Brit living in America for 8 years, it can sometimes feel like interactions with staff are unauthentic and purely influenced by the push for tips, so it's nice to visit locations like this where the kindness and attentive nature is genuine!

I visited The Mad Hatter's Tea Party recently when I had some friends visit from abroad. I'm so glad we went here instead of anywhere else as it was amazing! The portion sizes were huge, and everyone who worked there was so lovely. It didn't disappoint! 😍 So much better value for money than other spots which offer afternoon tea. Just make sure to pre book as there aren't so many tables.

This was our second visit and we absolutely love it. Gorgeous food in a quirky, themed atmosphere. Staff were amazing - inuding separate catering for one of our party who had a food intolerance. Would 100% recommend a visit.

Best value afternoon tea I've ever had. Husband and wife owners were amazing, and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back when I'm in Bath again.

Unbelievably good. The best afternoon tea we have ever had by far. It's a family business, and the owner's family also owns the adjoining shops. They are so nice, and their scones and cakes in particular are wonderful. Highly recommended!

Popped into their new location in the Ram this morning, with a friend. Amazing, great coffee, a secret sausage roll to die for, great staff...time to chat and a great atmosphere.

I visit Picnic Coffee every week for the delicious coffee and lemon drizzle cake. However, the staff just bring my order to the table and walk away without a word or a glance at me. Where are the staff other reviewers praise so highly?

Visited this cafe with my 2 children, we had a drink first the children done some colouring which they enjoyed, We then went into the soft play area cost £4 per child adult £1 , your in there for a hour, the children had a lovely time, my only complaint is they were not allowed to leave the soft play area for a drink as if they did they wouldn’t be allowed back in,
