Incredibly miserable barmaid. Quite rude to customers. Didnt eat anything as ‘kitchens closed’ was barked at us when she overheard us discussing lunch. Went down the road and had a much better experience in haveners!

The Lugger Inn is tucked away on the small harbour/slipway in Fowey. Some drivers might find theveh roads leading to it somewhat challenging (narrow, steep in parts, passing places and winding). However if like me you love those rural Cornish trails then you're in for a great stay. I think you probably would need a car to get around and be a fairly confident driver. The welcome at the Lugger was helpful showing us around the pub and restaurant and taking us to the adjacent rooms. (Some like ours are in the pub itself, some are in an adjacent building. There is parking at the site, but beware the entrance is quite narrow (particularly if you've one of the modern chest freezer style SUVs. I will deal with the restaurant in a separate review, but no issues when looking at this venue. Breakfast and evening meals were very good and if you get a chance to try the cream teas in the afternoon take it. The rooms in the pub are pretty well sized but even in September were very warm (some of the walls are a couple of feet thick in parts) . We had a fan in the room which we found on day two which was helpful at night. The room was well appointed and comfortable. The pub has WiFi which works in the bar areas but is patchy in the rooms (those thick walls again). If you're taller than 5'9 you're going to have to watch your head in the rooms and on the route to the bar and restaurant. There are some very low beams and brickwork - we counted three head clashes - none serious - but be warned. The bar area is welcoming and has a traditional pub feel with tables, seats to relax along with some books and board games. The view from the restaurant and bar is great overlooking the harbour and would be equally impressive in summer or winter storms. It's certainly a location you could happily squirrel yourself away for a period of time or it provides an excellent base to explore this port of Cornwall.

We have visited the Lugger for decades but not since the new management took over. I'm pleased to say it's just as lovely and the good just as good as it always was. It was so nice to see it hasn't changed and is still the same pub it always was. The guy running the show was absolutely brilliant. Kind to our disabled daughter and great fun to chat to. Our fish and chips were top notch and we had a great evening.

We have had some fantastic meals in the Lugger in the past. We were warned not to expect the large portion of fish stew. So my husband ordered it but the sauce tasted of tomato soup, which was so disappointing. My fish pie was fish flavoured potatoes. I found a few overcooked shrimp in among the potatoes. The lady was lovely and offered to take it back to he kitchen but I was in a hurry and didn’t have time for someone to cook a proper fish pie. The bowl was small so it would have been so easy to put a few bits of fish in the pie. Will not be going back.

We initially tried to go to the restaurant opposite, but were turned away as we hadn’t booked, even though it was empty. Luckily this turned out to be a good thing as we both had a tasty, good value meal. In the hour we were there, I saw no one enter the restaurant opposite. Their loss, our gain. We were so impressed we went back to the Lugger the next day. Once again, the food was well cooked and presented and the staff were friendly. This was a good find and we would happily return!

Have been coming here for years. The roast was always second to none. This time however when I visited on the 5th I was truly disappointed. Not up to the usual standards. Will never return. Meat over cooked. Gravy was like dish water. Potatoes not cooked properly. Far too many herbs and seasoning. Could have thrown the “Yorkshire” at a window and smashed it. The Lugger has always been one of our favourites in Fowey and we've been coming here for years, but we were a little concerned as it had changed hands since we were last here. It was nice to see the same cheerful lady serving behind the bar. We were pleased to see the interior hadn't changed. The menu was smaller than before but we've found that in a lot of places. I had the fish and chips which were delicious and hubby had the burger. He was upset that his favourite home-made curry with half rice/half chips wasn't offered any more (there is a masala on the menu but he's always a little anxious as he can't eat coconut!) Overall the food was still very nice and so far it'll remain on our 'favourite in Fowey' list. Please don't change this lovely old pub!

Sadly, in our opinion, the Basset Arms has gone downhill. The roast was not good, it took an age to get to us, the vegetables arrived a good 5 minutes after the main plates, the cauliflower/broccoli cheese was very crusty, the roast potatoes were like leather, the chicken portions were very small and the service was poor. It was very disappointing!

Just had a lovely lunch a very large portion . Great staff and nice wine. Views are lovely too. Sadly weather not good enough to sit outside.

Went in for food and drink, good selection of drinks, ordered the food, fish finger sandwich, fish & chips. & onion rings, fish and chips not great, batter was soggy inside and a salad had appeared on the plate which wasn’t advertised £14, fish finger sandwich was appalling, never order this as it was just fish fingers bought from Iceland in a box, could have made better myself £9 & onion rings which I asked if they were beer battered and they said yes and to my amazement they wasn’t £5, so overall it wasn’t a great lunch at all, won’t be going back.
