Great food, great service, welcoming staff. Highly recommend. Substantial portions so had to skip the dessert on this occasion.

Stopped here for lunch when staying at a local campsite. Lovely traditional pub, looks recently refurbish. The food was fantastic, friendly and helpful staff. Vegan and vegetarian options. And there's a play park for the kids just across the road. Highly recommended.

Visited today for lunch with my mum. From the moment we walked through the door it was an exceptional experience. The welcome was very warm from the staff with brilliant service. It is beautifully decorated and comfortable seating. We both had fish and chips (smaller portions) and it was more than enough. The fish was perfectly cooked and fresh with the the lightest batter I have ever tasted-definitely no stodge here! Tasty chips and fresh peas with homemade tartare sauce at the side made this a perfect meal. My mums little dog was made welcome too with a jar of gravy bones on offer too! We will be definitely returning again and whilst I like to try different things I am not sure I would be able to resist the fish and chips again!

We visited for an early tea while staying on site in the camping pod. The service here is outstanding - friendly without being encroaching and I would say that it’s what makes the atmosphere in the pub so lovely. My teens easily feel awkward if they don’t see other young diners and they were made to feel at ease straight away by the engaging staff. We ordered fish and chips , the curry of the day and the vegetarian burger (which was also available as a vegan option). Each dish was beautifully cooked and we all left clean plates. We couldn’t say no to the homemade desserts - again, all excellent and freshly prepared. I would happily drive 5 hours from Buckinghamshire to stay/eat here again!

Girls meet up for a birthday evening meal. None of us had been before, and we loved the ambience of the place. Beautifully decorated and comfortably furnished throughout. We sat in the back area which is light and airy, with lovely views towards the fells. Tom looked after us extremely well, and there was a lovely, relaxed feel. The food was tasty, well presented and arrived hot and all together for our group of 5. Nothing overly fancy, just honest pub grub. We will definitely return and hopefully it will be warm enough to use the beer garden.

We had a Birthday lunch. This is a smashing place to eat. It is clean and has a friendly atmosphere and the staff are great. The food was not too outlandish so we could choose from a varied menu. We will be going again. It's the nicest restaurant near Cockermouth.

We went her late Sunday afternoon for a bite to eat after reading so many 5 star reviews, not sure if there was another chef on or it was just an off day but I am struggling to see evidence of such high reviews. 3 of us had Chicken curry, getting what the menu said, 1)2 chips, 1/2 rice was the first obstacle, told at ordering one of the items weren't available only to have 1 meal come with chips, 1 with rice and 1 half n half, not sure if the front of house or the ordering system was faulty but clearly someone or something didn't have a scooby doo. The chips were ok, the rice boiled n plain, no issues, the chicken very dry and over cooked, can only think they cooked both the sauce and chicken separate, as I've yet to have dry chicken in a curry. The 4th meal was a crab salad, salad resembled leaves from a supermarket salad bag and not much imagination and garlic mayo....please if the chef makes no changes please realise not everyone like garlic. I think a community pub idea is great, however i hope the food is simply a side line and not the main idea, disappointed visit

Pleased to say that the pub continues to improve. Busy at lunch time on a Tuesday in February is always a good sign. And for very good reasons. The food was excellent, well prepared, good sized portions, a bit more variety than the usual menu and reasonably priced. Beer well kept, with two real ales on, including Loweswater Gold. The pub is not far out of the Lake District, just north of Maryport, between Allonby and Silloth. A dog friendly pub which would make a great place to stop over if you have a caravan or camper, with the beach looking over to Scotland a few hundred yards away. Good to see the community preserving the pub for all to enjoy.

Just back from Sunday lunch, and I have to say one of the best roast dinners I've ever had. I had the roast pork, 4 thick slices of pork, crackling, stuffing and a huge Yorkshire pudding, as well as all the usual roast accompaniments. Husband had the Vegetarian option which was a sweet potato roulade, which had cajun spices,( he said it was delicious ) as well as all of the roast dinner items too. Would highly recommend booking as it was very busy. Still great service though. We'll definitely be going back.

What an amazing Xmas meal catering for a large group of people. The food was plentiful, freshly cooked, piping hot and delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, including catering for one gluten free customer. The young lady who served us was polite and professional. The pub was immaculately clean with up to the minute thoughtful decor, the spaces used to their best advantage. All of us enjoyed the laid back atmosphere without having to rush our meal. A great little community pub and definitely worth returning to.

Was a regular before the refurbishment and new managers. Feels like a lot of the soul has been ripped out of the pub, new decor feels cold. The pub is very clean and the bar person was very accommodating and friendly so no complaints there. Food was pretty mediocre and not as good as a lot of places in the area offering similar priced food. Overall clean, but not as appealing as before. Think they could have kept some of the character built in seating etc. food not as good as it was in our opinion.

Visited here again, for lunch. The staff were welcoming and prompt to take my order. The food yet again was extremely good, hot and plentiful, a real credit to the kitchen staff and chef. The ambience and decor of the pub is appealing and choice of beverage is more than ample, and a good selection of wines etc can be had. Definitely worth a return visit.

Food is fantastic , staff are professional and accommodating, nothing too much trouble , menu for pub food is ample in choice, and generous portions , decor is clean, inviting and original for country pub, butternut squash soup was the best I have come across anywhere, and a welcome change from the usual choices , food is freshly made from scratch and a credit to the chef. Well worth visiting, and am sure to return in the near future,to sample other items on the menu.

The pub has just had a makeover and the decor is lovely and the establishment is extremely clean throughout. It was nice to see a range of quality wines on offer and also a choice of local beers. ; menu was exactly what I would expect from a small village pub. We had scampi and the pie, both of which was really nice and freshly cooked and an ample sized portion. Overall, staff were very attentive and the ‘landlady’ was very welcoming. A lovely atmosphere and we will be back again soon.

I booked into the Fairydust pod in the camping field to the rear of the pub. A short walk through the Car Park. I was travelling with my 2 Norwich Terriers & we were given a warm welcome by everyone. The pod is very cosy with a double bed & bunk beds, small fridge, heater & electricity points. Attached to the pub is a "key only" private wet-room with wc, shower & sink - all very clean indeed & the dogs are allowed in with you too! Pub Food was fresh, wholesome & tasty with a varied choice for everyone at very reasonable prices indeed. There's an ample beer garden with plenty of tables & a small marquee. Whole place is really dog-friendly. There's a kids play area just across the lane. The camping field is small but you aren't squashed in & the pod has a firepit, kindling & wood. There was a campervan, motor home & trailer tent there when I was & everyone had plenty of space & privacy. Just 10mins leisurely walk through the village to the beach on the Solway Firth & you can walk for miles or just admire the beautiful views of Scotland's distant shores & mountains. It was a bit inclement so I didn't swim & I'd ask whether it's safe before I did go in although there were no Danger signs. I'll be going back for sure!

We stayed in a lovely cottage in Mawbray and visited this gem of a pub for lunch and evening meals. The staff were very friendly and welcoming especially for dogs who received a nice sausage treat. The food was delicious and plentiful with a nice selection of drinks and real ale. Be sure to book in advance as it can get busy in the evenings. Thank you to all involved especially Joanne for making our visits a real treat.

Our first visit to Rathlin Island and of course we availed of The Hungry Seal! The food was absolutely amazing, we were in chippy heaven. The chips are probably the best I've ever had and the battered sausages to die for! The other half had the haddock supper and claimed it was the best he's ever had. Decent portions, the price is up there but not much different than your average chippy to be fair. The girls were lovely and had the food ready in good time. We would take a trip back to the island just for another feed at the Hungry Seal lol 10/10 for us! (Not my picture, found in Google search)

... indeed they do! Imagine taking a rare 300+ mile journey to revisit your childhood memories, including that of the pub that you were born in. Imagine turning up at the said establishment, full of excitement and anticipation only to be shouted at "You can't park here, I'm expecting people for Sunday Lunch" - maybe the Landlord was psychic and knew we weren't his intended visitors, or he only serves his local clientele with charm? Imagine then trying to hold a conversation with said Landlord about the past, who clearly wasn't interested, simply citing "things change". Indeed they do... just not always for the better... as evidenced at The Bush (previous name, from back in (much) better times.
