I had booked lunch in the Lounges for my partners birthday. The booking was made 7 days in advance and confirmed by email. The Grove called to confirm the booking the day before, and confirmed we wanted Sushi, not Afternoon Tea. They also sent an email to confirm again the morning of the booking. They mentioned nothing of not being able to sit in the Lounges on any of the confirmations. On arrival we were told they had overbooked, and The Lounges were now only for Afternoon Tea and we could go to the bar if we wanted. The Bar had business people on laptops and children running round, not the setting you want for a birthday lunch. Its disappointing that they overbook, but also that they didn't mention this when they confirmed the booking so we could change our plans. Clearly money over service and we won't be returning.

We had a wonderful afternoon tea for two here at the hotel. Longer review under the hotel itself, but suffice to say - food was delicious - unlimited sandwiches and tea/coffee/soft drinks - staff were attentive - dietary requirements were easily accommodated - leftovers given to take home - wonderful relaxed quiet atmosphere Highly recommend, would definitely return.

What a great set up! Gorgeous rooms! And a lovely way to have a quiet drink, or a wind down, or a read of the paper or a good book...

Wonderful lunch for one. Great service and a truly lovely atmosphere. Most people are here having afternoon tea but i has a beautiful salad. I decided to have a dessert which was very large but tasty. Would certainly come again.

Vera was great as were all the staff. Felt very welcome without being overwhelmed. The food was great my partner is dairy intolerant and this was not a problem he did not feel his choices were limited at all. The knowledge if teas was impressive and not at all pushy. I would return in a heartbeat and if you are looking for a gift or special treat this is the place to come.

Perfect place to relax with a book or chill out over drinks. My friend and I had a wonderful salad, big portion. The cocktails however were bland and not particularly great, especially when one considers the price! Next time we’ll stick to tea...

An afternoon tea birthday treat, a wonderful selection of teas were offered, I could simply sit and sip tea all day long here. It was divine! A fine selection of cakes and nibbles, everything was superbly presented - simply exquisite!

Relaxed and beautiful surroundings. Stayed for hours just talking and relaxing. Cakes are amazing and the staff are wonderful. Scones were lovely and warm and very fresh. Can't wait to go back, excellent for a celebration.

The service was amazing! The staff could've done anymore for us and they were extremely attentive without being annoying. The staff kept replenishing the nibbles without any fuss and we felt relaxed and ready for our dinner date. Thanks (served at 7pm Saturday evening - sorry we didn't take note of names)

We visited The Lounges at about 2pm and we're shown to some very comfortable sofas. As always at The Grove all the staff are so polite and attentive, and the whole place is always well presented. We were offered a selection of different teas, and a member of staff explained about each individual tea. In addition we were offered a very good selection of sandwiches, and as many sandwiches as one wanted. After the sandwiches came the cakes which were lovely. Everything we tried was delicious, and we tried teas we'd never heard of thanks to the staff and their tempting explanations of those teas. I don't know much about the costs, because my wife and I were being treated by our family.

Great cocktails from the bar. Reasonably priced and lovely surroundings. Black Russian, Margarita, and a vodka martini. All well made and we were not pushed to have more. Lovely service.

Afternoon tea in the wonderful Lounges at the Grove Hotel with a friend and colleague. I adore this hotel and have had coffee and breakfast in The Lounges several times but this was my first afternoon tea. The Lounges are quite unique with superb decor, furnishings and art work. The rooms are interlinked and differ in style with several individual rooms and cosy corners. Amazing atmosphere and style - really hard to describe, it has to be experienced. Faultless service - we were very well looked after. The afternoon tea itself was amazing with a tea menu which was very interesting. The food is top quality and plentiful. Wonderful sandwiches with seconds offered. Scones served warm when you are ready for them with wonderful jam and lemon curd. Truly amazing cakes and you can take those you don't eat home in a box. My friend needed gluten free (and is also pregnant) and I am vegetarian - no problem at all and everything g was perfectly made to suit our requirements. Expensive but well worth it.

Had the most wonderful afternoon tea at the Lounge. You must pre book and although a little pricey it was well worth it! Superb service and great knowledge of the large variety of different teas with impeccable service, mainly by Peter! We were seated in an almost private lounge area overlooking beautiful gardens with spectacular views. Nothing was too much trouble and we definitely hope to have tea there again! There was so much to eat and we were offered a "doggy bag" with the remainder we couldn't manage! Perfect afternoon.

The Grove Hotel is an impeccably looked after hotel and the service is first class. The gardens are stunning and the lounges are a wonderful place to take afternoon tea. The choice of tea is varied and the Grove is very accommodating on sandwich preferences. My only criticism was that the sandwiches and cake selection and scones were not to my taste. The sandwiches were a bit dry and the cakes/pastries were a pasty cornet, eclair, rhubarb tart, batten burg cake and creamy chocolate cake. I had the chocolate cake which was OK and tried the eclair but I'm not a pastry person and didn't enjoy that so didn't try the other pasty ones as I'm not really in to pastry. I thought they shouldn't have had so many pastries but a more varied cake selection. The scones were served warm but again they were quite tasteless, however, the homemade jam and lemon curd were good. The Grove is an amazing hotel and I love it there, the atmosphere is bliss but afternoon tea was very disappointing.

We stayed at the hotel and were lucky to find somewhere to sit down to eat. There is a strange policy at this hotel whereby non residents are allowed it seems to book everything, so that there is nowhere for residents to eat. This was the situation on our first night. There was literally nowhere we could go to eat, except to sit in our room and order room service! Not impressive. Especially bearing in mind the exorbitant rate we were being charged to stay over Easter. However, for lunch on the second day we found a free table and had the best hamburger ever. Even better than in America. Also gorgeous sorbet. The service was friendly too. Well done.

It seems you can no longer have a light lunch in the lounge as you have to make way for the afternoon tea bookings at lunchtime. Hover still a good place to meet and relax

In memory of a very special lady who loved visiting The Grove for afternoon tea and walking around it's gardens, five colleagues and I did the same.It was a delightful experience which began with a selection of different teas(or coffee) followed by lovely sandwiches of different fillings on different breads. Freshly baked hot scones served with clotted cream and a fruit preserve or home made lemon curd, followed by a beautiful selection of cakes and tartlets. As soon as we had finished the sandwiches, staff asked if we would like some more. The same with the scones and cakes. One of our group was vegetarian and another had a nut allergy which was dealt with great attention and thought. Staff were always on hand to make our experience special but not in an obtrusive way.I would highly recommend .Well done to The Grove for making this a lovely memory.

First visit. The whole place oozes special occasion: spacious, manicured grounds; elegant, characterful buildings; stunning internal decor; sumptuous lounges; friendly welcome; spotless WCs; etc, etc ...However, service was lackadaisical:- on booking, we were asked if it was a special occasion (it was, a birthday), but this was not acknowledged in any way on the actual visit;- we were given one cake stand between two, but it only contained one of everything!- we ordered champagne, but it was forgotten, so never served!!There were also quality/value issues:- tea was initially timed to perfection, but with no way of removing the leaves after steeping, stewed thereafter;- sandwiches were good but insufficient, so meal was unbalanced (ubiquitous complaint this), with insufficient savoury vs excessive sweet - like, I suspect, many guests, we left with some boxed cakes, but I bet no one's ever left with boxed sandwiches!!!Finding the place is needlessly difficult; they give two alternate postcodes, yet (stubbornly?) don't include the road of the main entrance in their address (once we finally had this, finding it was a breeze!)So, as an experience, just about OKish, but as a £30 meal, poor value.Might try the restaurant in future, but won't be having another afternoon tea

A voucher for Afternoon Tea was given to me for my birthday. On arrival there was huge debate about where we could sit. It was a very hot day. Eventually we were sat outside the Glasshouse where we were ignored for some time. My birthday treat was starting to feel like a bit of a disappointing day. Eventually someone came over and told us we had to move. The young girl who sat us there was new and shouldn't have done so. At this point I asked why every time I came to the Grove there was a problem!! The waiter could sense my disappointment and physically picked up a table and moved it on to the grass for us. At this point I was impressed. He was wonderful. More sandwiches and cakes that we could eat and a beautiful, sunny summer's day. A walk round the stunning grounds completed the afternoon.

Must admit the visit didn’t start well. The car park is scruffy with bins, rubbish and sundry old equipment piled up and it doesn’t create a good first impression. Inside the welcome was warm and friendly but the chairs at the table we were shown to were scruffy and very stained. My first beer (London Pride) was sour, probably the end of the barrel, but was changed when I pointed it out and The Scarecrow much better. Not good so far. However, the staff were great and the food very good. Fish and chips was plentiful and beautifully cooked. The Hoisin Belly Pork something different and really tasty. Overall we all enjoyed our visit and would go again.

After many years of great food and service, we were shocked and horrified by the appalling lack of customer service following a terrible JustEat experience..... Despite knowing, and being known by this business for countless years, I am speechless. As it stands they will get no more custom from us, and we will share our awful experience with all our friends....

Great pub just off the Common - nice warm interior and a good place to watch the rugby. Great selection of beers and friendly staff. Nice beer garden too.
