John, Callum and Sasha might actually be some of my favourite people. This is THE perfect pub to come to for a little countryside fare and chill. On at least a monthly basis I come up here to see my goddaughter and best friends - and we always end up at the Shep, because this is the best place around. Can’t get a better plate of nachos in this county, staff are second to none, you feel at home with plenty of locals AND there are veggie options. An excellent pub that deserves all of the love. So cosy and loads of events on too. Come down, meet new friends.

Agreed to meet a friend at this pub on a wet Saturday afternoon. It was quiet when I arrived but steadily built throughout the afternoon. Staff were friendly and modest range of good beers at standard prices. No blaring music was a plus for me although I did notice that pub quizzes and live music nights take place. I would certainly go there again and happy to recommend.

The beef burger I had was great! It came with a very nice dill sauce, the flavors were really well balanced. The fries were nice, salty and crisp, just the way they should be. And the coleslaw surprised me with some black sesame seeds and herbs, to give it more taste. The staff was welcoming and nice. Overall a very nice experience, a place I would recommend.

Lived locally for over two years and finally made it here for a drink early on a Saturday night. It’s clearly a locals/regulars pub. The landlord seemed to know everyone and goes out of his way to make them feel welcome. It’s very much a traditional village pub, on one edge of Chorleywood common. I was only there for a quick pint, but really enjoyed my first visit.

Living local to this pub we heard abut an event they were holding. BBQ and live music. We decided to go along as it was a lovely Saturday afternoon and the sun was shining. We arrived at about 3.30 and the atmosphere was happy and relaxing. The smell of the BBQ was mouth-watering. The live music was excellent with different musicians all afternoon. We totally loved the food and couldn't believe it was free !!Well done to the old shepherd. We will be back.

We received a leaflet advertising a 5th Anniversary Garden Party and BBQ. As it was my husbands bitthday on the same day, we arranged for a large family group to attend. The leaflet said the BBQ would start at 2pm, so we got there at 1pm to reserve a table. The pub garden was filthy and in prepared for the event. The staff were making a half hearted attempt at putting bunting up and hosing down a dirty, rusty BBQ. We politely enquirer at 2.15 what good might be on offer and what time it might be ready and was told aggressively “not now mate.”We ordered some drinks at the bar and politely enquired again about when the food might be served. Again we were told in a very in friendly manner “whenever Billy has it ready.” We decided to leave then.It was a shame, as the sun was shining and the musician tuning up, looked like he would be good. He apologised to us as we left, saying the owner had “the hump” and he had nothing to do with the BBQ only the music. A very disappointing visit, wouldn’t return again.

First visit ever was Saturday 5th May for the open mic. I looked at the menu and thought it was a bit basic, ordered food and found the quality to be excellent. (don't change it). The music started at 8 pm. There was only about 5 or 6 acts but each one was varied, a very high standard and most enjoyable. There were 7 in our group and we all felt the same. Sorry I missed this months open mic but I will definitely come again.Tim

My doubting Thomas comments to Mrs K when she booked Sunday lunch at the Shepherd were well and truly put back in their box. When we moved to Chorleywood in November the Old Shepherd was a traditional cosy pub with a decent beer garden that didn't do food. It's now a traditional cosy pub with a decent beer garden that does great food and has been smartened up to boot. The bar man Al does a great job and the pub is always welcoming. Having now eaten there we are very impressed that the collaboration with Gusto Deli (also Chorleywood) is doing so well. My chicken burger and skinny fries was perfect (chicken lightly breadcrumbed with a subtle cajun flavour, bun soft and white, and thankfully not following the trend of being a sweet brioche!) and my partner said his beef burger and sticky toffee pudding was lovely too. And he fish and chips we saw being delivered to the next table looked amazing. Keep up the good work!

I had booked lunch in the Lounges for my partners birthday. The booking was made 7 days in advance and confirmed by email. The Grove called to confirm the booking the day before, and confirmed we wanted Sushi, not Afternoon Tea. They also sent an email to confirm again the morning of the booking. They mentioned nothing of not being able to sit in the Lounges on any of the confirmations. On arrival we were told they had overbooked, and The Lounges were now only for Afternoon Tea and we could go to the bar if we wanted. The Bar had business people on laptops and children running round, not the setting you want for a birthday lunch. Its disappointing that they overbook, but also that they didn't mention this when they confirmed the booking so we could change our plans. Clearly money over service and we won't be returning.

Must admit the visit didn’t start well. The car park is scruffy with bins, rubbish and sundry old equipment piled up and it doesn’t create a good first impression. Inside the welcome was warm and friendly but the chairs at the table we were shown to were scruffy and very stained. My first beer (London Pride) was sour, probably the end of the barrel, but was changed when I pointed it out and The Scarecrow much better. Not good so far. However, the staff were great and the food very good. Fish and chips was plentiful and beautifully cooked. The Hoisin Belly Pork something different and really tasty. Overall we all enjoyed our visit and would go again.

After many years of great food and service, we were shocked and horrified by the appalling lack of customer service following a terrible JustEat experience..... Despite knowing, and being known by this business for countless years, I am speechless. As it stands they will get no more custom from us, and we will share our awful experience with all our friends....
