Cart and Horses in Three Rivers

Must admit the visit didn’t start well. The car park is scruffy with bins, rubbish and sundry old equipment piled up and it doesn’t create a good first impression. Inside the welcome was warm and friendly but the chairs at the table we were shown to were scruffy and very stained. My first beer (London Pride) was sour, probably the end of the barrel, but was changed when I pointed it out and The Scarecrow much better. Not good so far. However, the staff were great and the food very good. Fish and chips was plentiful and beautifully cooked. The Hoisin Belly Pork something different and really tasty. Overall we all enjoyed our visit and would go again.

This is a typical country pub. Good car parking. It is not fancy. It's cozy and quirky. Good beer and wine choices along with your top shelf alcohol are good and our friend said his Carlsberg larger was the best he had had in years. The staff are lovely. Chatty and friendly. The place is welcoming for sure. Next...the food. OMG this place is a real find. I had a chicken strip with a curry sauce...it was huge . Could have been a main course as it was so big and oh so yummy. My hubby and our friend both had large pawn cocktails. If you like Tomahawk steak cooked to perfection..in this case medium rare, you will not be disappointed. I had sausage and mash...again huge portion and very tasty. Our friend had a hoisin pok belly dish which he also loved. Desserts are devilishly good. We struggled as we didn't think we had room for any more food..but once again the desserts were amazing. We ordered 2 crumbles and bread and butter pudding..we took our time and really enjoyed them. This place does amazing food so worth the road trip to find this quirky little place. Oh and another star in my case was coke in bottles...just perfect.

Absolutely class, the Sunday roast is fantastic and a must get is the bread and butter pudding :)

First visit yesterday. Went off fb posts and can honestly say not disappointed. Area not known to me so travelled half hour. Well worth the journey.

We had a family leg of lamb it was so delicious and just fell off the bone along with a selection of lovely fresh veg.The service was so good and definitely great value with no service charge. We will be going there again and would recommend it to anyone.

Came for the Saturday night steak night specials and had the tomahawk steak. We shared it. It was absolutely delicious. So so tasty. Onion rings and mushrooms were delicious. Puddings were great too. Would highly recommend.

Me and my fiance when there on sunday, the 22nd of September ,we had lunch and was very nice it was to .I have steak ,tomatoes, roast potatoes and peas ,it was delicious. He had chicken on skewers with chips ,coleslaw. He said it was very nice and tender the chicken. We had 2 pints each . Pudding well I never say nl,do t mi d if I do .I had bread and butter pudding with custard 😋.

The food is awesome. We initially went for Sunday lunch and my wife and I had the most incredible lamb we’ve tasted. We went back again the following week, and it wasn’t quite as good, but still excellent. It’s dog friendly, has a great range of drinks, a very nice beer garden and is fairly priced. The chicken shawarma and the nachos are absolute standouts.

Went with my incredibly big (pregnant) grandaughter, her mother and dad. They generously paid for me and the meal was lovely. The service was amazing and wednesday is pie night, and i love pies! Special thanks to Nicky, who was extra lovely, despite being so busy...

Lovely pub with a very nice landlord. He told me he has been there 32 years which doesn't happen these days.

best Sunday roast ever. Proper cuts of meat, you will need to ask for a doggy bag as the portions are large! Very friendly staff.

Lovely country pub in the lanes between Sarratt and Chipperfield with large garden, real ale and free bouncy castle i think. Popped in for a Tuesday evening drink to find it was Steak night. Tender steak and catered for my Veggie friend.

Me and my friend visited today , lovely outdoor seating area however no one came to our table to take our order so we resorted to the bar which was extremely chaotic with rude staff saying they were going to slap one of the bar staff. The bar is very small which didn’t help, staff trying to bring out food, serve drinks and children on the loose. We were told we would have to wait for our tap water that we ordered so we waited in the bar for 10mins in the toxic atmosphere and still no sign of the water . We decided to go and sit back at our table. My fish and chips came out (which was very nice) followed by our waters. 20mins passes and my friend still hasn’t got her food , I had finished my meal by the time she recieved garlic bread and chips which should take no longer than 10/15mins to make. I found all the staff to be very rude and disrespectful except for the young gentleman who served us was very apologetic and made sure we had everything we needed. We were told that they were very understaffed but that should not be taken out on the customers. Unfortunately I won’t be returning here

One hour to serve the starters. We went there for lunch. The pub was half full at the most and even though the service was very kind, it took an hour until the starters arrived and then, one we finished, another 15 minutes for the mains. Perhaps we had bad luck. The food was average. The beer garden is nice but the weather did not allow us to try it.

I had the half lamb shoulder for dinner. It was unreal, it was huge!! Great staff, brilliant atmosphere, highly recommended

We made a very last minute visit to Horse and Cart about 4 weeks ago, we loved it so much we rebooked for today, and you didn’t let us down. Even tho you had run out of what I wanted you had a similar starter and made a mains up just for me, which was very appreciated. The staff were and are always very friendly and happy to help. The only bad point was, the food was so good and great portions, that we couldn’t fit in pudding 🤣

We had a family get together, 14 people for an evening meal and drinks. The food and the service was excellent and everyone had a really good time. Congratulations to the Cart and Horses and all their hardworking staff who made it a special occasion.

We had a variety of lunches 2 x Turkey Roasts, 2 x Giant Cod and Chips, 1 x Chicken Burger followed by a variety of desserts with coffees all washed down with a bottle of Prosecco and a beer and a red wine. Portion Quantity - Huge; Meal Quality - Excellent; Service - Impeccable; Price - Amazing Good Value. 10/10 for everything. Parking is a little tight but if you are prepared to walk 100m not a problem,

Taken me while to post lol. What can I say couple weekends ago I took my daughters there for Sunday lunch. Excellent,excellent. Great food and service. Plates are well full of good home cooked food in fact we all took them home in one of there takeaway containers (and it wasn't wasted)as we was so full .This is must try place for all especially family's. "Fish" Friday lunch with family. The car park was nearly full when we arrived, so we knew it would be good. The kitchen was under a bit of pressure, but our food arrived hot and was worth the wait. The staff were brilliant: 10/10! We will be back. Plenty of foot paths connecting the pub, so it's ideal for ramblers with empty bellies. 😀

It’s a little late but, Mothers Day and a table of 14. Children, 91 year old, parents and grand parents - we were a noisy bunch. The staff were totally wonderfully amazing. Treated us as we were royalty. Extremely attentive, with delicious food and a running chitchat with the little ones. There’s always one who changes their mind and, of course, we’re no exception and the staff just took it in their stride. I just wished we lived nearer.

We booked here for a birthday dinner prior to going to the Harry Potter tour. Thank god we booked as it was packed out. But the food was sensational. Some of the best food I have ever had in a pub. Great price as well.

Absolutely appalling service firstly they couldn’t find me a table that I had booked a week ago then we waited for fifteen minutes and was not even asked if we wanted a drink in this time another customer a friend of the bar maid was seated next to me and enjoying his nice cold pint to which we decided to get up and leave I would never go there again or recommend it to anyone appalling service very cramped and dirty premises

Perfect steaks for a meat eating family

MAN the food here was nice!! I had Rib eye steak and salad , and it was absolutely lovely!!! Rib eye can be hit and miss at times because of the fat content - but this was cooked perfectly medium rare and there was no gristle whatsoever - salad was fresh and crunchy, with nothing over the top and silly about it. It just complemented the steak and freshened the palate. Which was exactly what it was there to do. Job done. Loved it. My friend had beef nachos and chicken burger which he said was the best he’s had - it was huge too… Our lovely waitress was called Lauren (A Rock Chick out front! Always good to see!🤘🤘) and she absolutely smashed it! They all did to be fair. Knowledgable , attentive, helpful , funny and down to earth. They deserve 5 stars all day long So then … (out of 5 of course!) Food 5 Service 5 (and some!!) Ambience - 4 (depends if you like busy though!)

First time here! The missus noticed the pub had mentioned on social media that they were doing a 'slow cooked lamb' in a bun so as it was sort of local we drove up there and grabbed a cheeky shandy & bun then headed outside to the barn (heated) to munch said-bap. Winner! What great food and what fab friendly staff. Will be back for a 'proper' dinner ASAP, as the people in the pub being served looked on with glee at what the chef was bringing out for them. Been there a couple of times now and I love it. The homenade pies are truly amazing. It's true cooking as it once was and should still be IMHO. A log fire too. Great, really efficient team supporting a very friendly, happy owner who also happens to be the chef! Brilliant. Oh the Merlot is very quaffable! Thoroughly recommend.

Always a warm welcome here. A really nice cozy, country pub. Food portions are very generous and very well prepared. My sirloin steak was excellent and cooked just as I like it. All other meals reported as being excellent. All round enjoyment and great value for money. Highly recommended!

Sunday roast was fantastic as always and couldn't fault the service. Look forward to going again soon.

Just visited for a meal before Christmas with a large group of friends. From the point I booked, the service has been amazing. Nicki has been in touch with me to organise our table so we managed to pre order which was great. Service was superb when we got there despite messing around with numbers a few times (my mistake!). Food was really nice overall and reasonably priced.

Had a lovely evening, the staff were excellent very friendly and welcoming. Food was cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend. Would also pre book especially on a Sunday as there roasts are out of this world.

We had Sunday Lunch on a very busy afternoon, the staff were all very helpful and delivery of the food was very quick. I had chicken and my husband had beef, both very good and generous portions. Thanks to our waitress Lauren who was very professional 👏

We recently dined out at The Cart and Horses after hearing about their meals and the large portion sizes. So we definitely had to go there and try their steak specials on Saturdays. My husband had the T bone steak which he said was amazing. I had the ribeye....Omg! Mouth watering and sooo tender! Wow!! What a treat!! We definitely will be returning and have been recommending this hidden gem to all our family and friends.

We have been meaning to go here for ages as we moved locally more than 5 years ago. Unfortunately we won't be returning. The pub was dirty everywhere. The blinds were so dirty, dirty tissue hung in there, the chairs were filthy. Ordering was fine. Food arrived and looked ok. Basic pub fare. There was a problem in which we were covered in food as a result of the restaurant. New clothes were ruined, meal was ruined and my husband's jumper needs to be dry cleaned. The response wasn't great. We ate with splattered sauce still covering just about everything around us including our shoes and chairs even in my son's hair. I don't know even know what to say. We haven't had an experience like that anywhere else to even compare. Money is tight and it was a special day out but not so much now. We all left feeling disappointed.

We picked a very busy Sunday to visit for Sunday lunch here with friends. The food was plentiful and delicious. The price point was just right. The service was as good as it could be on such a busy day. The waitress was aware that our waiting times were long and she was very apologetic. No service charge is added to the bill here so please remember to tip the waitress as she works very hard. The wine and beer was very good and also well-priced. I would go again. Give it a try.

Delicious food! We went on a Wednesday, had the 🥧 turkey and leek, and peppered steak pies. Came with lots of lovely vegetable and lovely chips. Very filling! Worth the price! We will be back.

Great food, hanging skewers were on special which made choice easy. Friendly staff and fast service. All round great time especially after the stress of GCSE results day!

Pub itself and gardens lovely. First disappointment - no bitter apart from bottles !! Chose "Ham, eggs and chips with peas" and received two crunchy fried eggs with hard yolks, mediocre ham, thin dry oven chips and no peas. Far more expensive than similar more appetizing offerings at other pubs in the area. Won't be rushing back.

After a long absence ( don't know why) we visited on Tuesday evening and had a very pleasant meal, service and atmosphere all great and a great blue cheese burger

08/08- I wanted to update my review after receiving a lovely call today. In which the Cart & Horses apologised for our experience on sunday, gave me an update on action taken & offered us a free return meal on the house for the family. Good customer service 🙂. Such a shame, the food was amazing this afternoon. However our family Sunday lunch was disturbed with the domestic in the kitchen. The pub overheard, whilst eating their lunch. Not a good atmosphere &. no one apologised after the pub heard the row from the kitchen nor did anyone acknowledged what the whole pub had experienced/overheard. We spend most of our Sunday lunch explaining the behaviour of staff to our children & asking them not to repeat. We wont be back unfortunately, although we have always loved the food. The remaining staff, did what they could, but got orders wrong & forgot things.

Great little pub but really needs to update the website in terms of the lunch menu. Made a trip to the pub based on the website only to find that there is a single menu covering lunches and evenings. Not everyone wants a large lunch. Very disappointed as the lunch menu used to be good.

Lovely little pub, with a great garden. We just popped in for a drink but had the car, if only we had got a taxi I'd have stayed all night. The bouncy castle was up for the kids. Loved the little shed booths in the garden. Cosy inside and service was great. Would love to go back.

PIE NIIIITE!!! Do not eat all day, as this is an absolute feast! Wednesday's thing is a choice of proper pies with cases, not just puffcrust on a stew!! Huge meal... and my suet pudden was just comfort food heaven!

A nice dog friendly pub. You will not leave there hungry as portions are very tasty and large. Update We had not been there for a few years as the service was so slow every time we went there . We went today, they are still looking for staff and we could not get any food, as there was going to be a wedding party there later in the day. We did not even get offered a small dish or something simple. It's a shame they have not got their act together three years later.

Really lovely pub and garden area and friendly staff. We had Sunday roast here which was delicious but be warned the portions are big! Especially the shoulder of lamb! We probably shouldn't have had starters! Will definitely come again. Will be lovely for drinks in the garden on a summer evening.

Gone down hill. Ordered the lamb shoulder which I used to order a while back. Took people with me as I'd recommended it highly and both of us disappointed with the lamb. Gristly, fatty and cooked too fast that you couldn't cut it. Even with a steak knife. For some reason, Google wouldn't let me upload my photos of the pile of fat received on my plate

This place has gone downhill. Now seem to focus on crap quantity over quality. We ordered the lamb shoulder x 2 and it was inedible. Fatty, greasy and gristly. It had clearly been cooked so fast that it was too tough. Had the same experience a month or so ago but gave it the benefit of the doubt.

Always a friendly welcome awaits you at the pub. Nice setting and good range of drinks and a decent pub style food menu. Food is always good and I would recommend the chip shop platter complete with curry sauce!

One of the best places to have Sunday lunch. The portions are absolutely massive. The service is spot on a very friendly. It has outdoor space and a bouncing castle for the kids the summer.

Amazing service and delicious food. The atmosphere is quite unique and it really feels like being deep in the country side while at the same time the place being a short drive away from London.

Popped in on the off chance as we found ourselves without plans. Lovely traditional country pub with friendly staff and home cooked food. We both had the pepper steak pie which was delicious. Will definitely be going back to try more of the interesting looking menu.

This was a really nice country pub tucked away up a back Road off of a country lane. It was a large place with a big garden which I imagine could be used for its best advantage in the summer. The staff were really nice. Unfortunately my experience last night was only let down due to the fact that the chef was new, and head chef was not there to assist. My any of chicken on skewers took a while and was not fully cooked, then when it was sent back at came back slightly burnt. I’m a very understanding guy but to be honest I do believe honestly that the food shouldn’t have been sent out like that on either occasion, however, I’ll let it go and definitely would still recommend you to go to this pub when the head chef is in as I hear it usually does amazing food (otherwise ask for it to be well done) but not too well done 😂Also there was a flood in the men’s toilets which is also very unfortunate and I really don’t want to put the amazing place down and I’m sure it was just a one off and due to it being just before Christmas they were probably bit short on staffed in the kitchen.

Fantastic Food from Chef Will..and super service from excellent Tia, they helped organise a family Christmas lunch which with a dog and everyone we had a fantastic time, including the dog..who had a few dog treats from the bar!

No single thing that justifies 5*, but many things above average generous portions, moderately priced food, good selection of draft ciders and beers, excellent location for walking & dog friendly, adequate parking. This place is best week days, especially eating as the building is small and it is very popular. There is a large garden and a marquee, so it copes with week end crowding. It is a very different place summer weekends, compared to winter weekdays.
