Visiting Beer on a Sunday & looking for somewhere for a light lunch (sandwich type lunch) Called into here, completely empty when we arrived, but looked to be newly decorated & quite nice, being dog friendly decided to give it a try. Drinks ordered, took a look at menu & realised as a Sunday they were only doing Sunday Roasts & proper lunches. We therefore just had some drinks & crisps. By the time we left a few people had received their orders & looking at plates of food, pleased we didn’t have food.

Not sure what has happened to the Dolphin in general but having been coming to Beer for 30 years, this place is on its knees. The food was quick to come out and the service was fine - but probably because there was no one in there, hardly ever and we're here in peak August. The place was filthy. And I do mean filthy. We had a table for 11 and we used a full pack of wet wipes to clean two tables and then the food was awful! A real shame as This used to be a jewel in the Beer crown!

As a family we tried the lounge bar at the Dolphin Hotel during the Beer regatta week. We arrived for a early evening dinner and the hotel was busy as to be expected at this time of the year. We managed to get a table easily enough and ordered our food with the very friendly and helpful staff. Our food then started to arrive. I had opted for the gammon which when it arrived was huge. It arrived whole, not cut in half maybe to make it more presentable, just a mass of gammon that took up the whole plate. I though that maybe other food could have been added to the plate to assist with presentability? Other things such as fries and veg were then served with our accompanying meals in smaller bowls that were bought to the table. Come to think of it the whole food experience was so average I could not even recall whilst writing this review what other members of our party had to eat as nothing mentally jumped out at me it was that average. Unfortunately this did not spoil our evening. The food on this particular night was nothing special, maybe it was just and off night for the kitchen and they were really busy, who knows?

Being a regular at Beer I recommend this restaurant/bar if your a lover of a good roast. It never fails. Most of the time you will find it on the menu. And of course other foods too.

We live locally and visit often. The food is excellent and the service prompt and friendly. We always bring our visitors and, without exception, they always want a return visit.

Came across this beach driving around the Padstow area. Big spacious car park with reasonable charges although tight road to get to it. Beach is mixture of sand and pebbles. Great place to walk along the estuary or watch the boats pass by.

Ate here as a party of eight. The variety on the menu was very good and the service was also good. The portions were huge and if we had known we would not have ordered starters. All in all it was a very good meal

We had our breakfasts in this bar area since we had our dog with us. A large proportion of the residents have dogs, so the Lounge Bar can be busy at breakfast! The food was fresh and well cooked. In the evening, it provided a smaller, quieter bar than the "Long Bar" next door. The staff were friendly and helpful (and all liked dogs!).

Just the place to relax and eat after a busy day out. The same meals are available here as in the restaurant and it is dog friendly.

After a stroll across the beach we were in need of some refreshment, so in we popped. What a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. We stayed for a couple of drinks and having seen some delicious food appearing from the kitchens we booked a table for dinner. We ate in the restaurant and were very glad we booked as it was very busy. Service was efficient but friendly and food arrived at a timely pace. My husband ordered the scallops which were cooked to perfection. I had the avocado and crab. I was a little apprehensive as I have sometimes found crab a little strong but wow, how fresh and delicious it was; I even enjoyed the brown crab meat. Sole and cod followed, accompanied by some beautifully cooked vegetables rightly al-dente. For dessert we had ice-cream and my goodness the 'rum and raisin' was delicious; glad I wasn't driving afterwards!! Overall a very enjoyable meal in warm and friendly surroundings.

Absolutely lovely atmosphere and a very dog friendly place! My family, boyfriend and I were extremely impressed by the food. My dad had the braised steak and onion and really enjoyed how supple it was. I had an omelette which turned out to be bigger than I expected but delicious! My boyfriend had the cajun chicken burger and my mum had a jacket potato. For dessert my mum had a spotted dick (her favourite dessert) while I had a lovely creme caramel. Highly recommend this place. Great food for excellent prices.

My experience was overall good - had some gorgeous crab and the chef's specialty scallops with bacon. Loved my crab and the scallops were very well cooked, but could have gone without the lumps of bacon that came with it. Very quick service, I must say!

The Dolphin looks like it should be a good place to eat and drink from the outside but it is a soulless joint and overpriced with poor service and unfriendly staff. Aside from its facade, the place is so out of kilter with the rest of this pretty and friendly viillage

We had a meal here on a wet evening. The food was great, we are vegetarians and I think they had one of the most varied veggie options I have seen in a long time. The service was first class and staff very friendly. Portion of food more than adequate for the average price.

What a delight to return to the Dolphin's lounge bar. We were made very welcome, we were only staying for a tea and coffee, but were coming back for lunch. As a disabled person with a walker stroller, I like the ease of access to the Dolphin's bar and lounge. Unfortunately, unless there is a hidden lift I would not be able to stay, as the stairs are narrow and steep. However, I digress, after a morning in sunshine and sea breeze, we headed back for lunch. The piece of Bream with sauted prawns, was succulent, and very tasty. The vegetables were hot and plentiful. We had no room for dessert, but had another tea and coffee and sat in the bar lounge, for a while unhustled, quite content. The staff at the Dolphin were wonderful, kind and very helpful. It is rare to be somewhere unfamiliar and recieve so much kindness and consideration, I can highly reccomend the Dolphin as a definate stopping off point, while exploring Devon.Ps I forgot to tell you about the magic mirrors great fun!

We returned here two years on from our last visit to eat the chef's signature dish: 'Diver caught Lyme Bay Scallops with bacon' and it did not disappoint! A very generous helping of scallops which were cooked to perfection - far too much vegetable accompaniment, though - not really necessary as the dish speaks for itself. Very good value for money, too.

I've known the Dolphin for over 20 years and it's always been a good pub. The food has been well cooked and with large helpings, it's a good place to go after a long walk and wind down. This year, we visited twice, in the evening and lunchtime and the price of the [same] drinks varied, which we wondered about. The barman wasn't exactly welcoming and it's clear he's just doing a job and doesn't get a buzz from what he does. The food's OK, though not quite as good as it used to be and they seem to be giving more weight to quantity than quality. On the second visit, we would all have ordered the salt beef sandwiches, which we know from previous visits, are excellent - trouble was, salt beef was off - not for the first time either.... This is annoying when you've been looking forward to it and you do look a muffin when you've been recommending it to the others. The sandwiches we had as a substitute were OK, but the kitchen staff think granary bread is 'brown' and a couple of our party really dislike granary. All they had to do was say "white or granary" and we'd have known and could have ordered white. I wouldn't say it's a bad pub, but a few years ago, I'd have been giving it five stars, now, there's just too many little things which combine to prevent it being anywhere special.

We visited the bar of the Dolphin Hotel around 12 noon on Saturday 18th May for a quick drink whilst we were waiting to be joined by 18 members of our extended family for more drinks and some lunch. Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy the experience as the drinks were quite pricey compared to other pubs in the area, our table was covered in crumbs and sticky spillages and the young woman behind the bar was miserable and rude - especially when we dared to ask for some coins in our change for the car park. Needless to say, we finished our drinks quickly and decided to meet our 18 family members for lunch (better service and a decent sea view) at the nearby Anchor Inn instead.

My wife and I have various food allergies, so it was so good to be told that they can adapt the meals to meet our needs. And they did, GF, veg instead of potatoes, you name it, it was done. The food itself was excellent, all four of us had brilliant meals. Well worth a visit

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.
