I guess reading the reviews, I should have been pre-warned that this was not to be the experience I was hoping for. I booked an afternoon tea for family coming over from America who had heard wonderful reports of our afternoon teas. How disappointing it was. I managed to get a 2 for 1 deal through the train tickets for this and I can only assume this was the reason we felt overlooked and underwhelmed as it was mentioned on several occasions by the waiting staff that I had booked a “discounted tea” in a disdainful tone. Our booking was for 4pm, yet we were told “ready in five minutes” at the desk at 4pm having already received the disdainful “oh, you’ve booked a discounted tea”. 15 minutes later we were finally called in when the snooty waiter on the desk saw me glaring and remembered me. At £50 per head - the full price tea charge - I was expecting something amazing as the afternoon tea at the OXO Tower I had recently had was cheaper with much more food, decent sized , warm scones and an amazing view. it’s just ridiculous and I’d have been furious to have paid full price . Dry sandwiches, tiddy little dr scones that weren’t even warm and we didn’t have a view as we were seated a long way from the window. Even for £25 per head it was overpriced. The service charge should have been £12.50, but it was £25 for a £100 bill which is actually 25% service as they don’t take into account the 2for1 deal. They have the cheek to leave space for a gratuity on the bill as well! Our American family were very polite about it, but were extremely disappointed and so were we as we had intended it to be a lovely treat for them. The hotel itself looks stunning, it’s a pity the afternoon tea does not live up to it. We have more family coming over later in the year who would like afternoon tea. We will be taking them elsewhere!

Thought I would treat my wife to a nice afternoon tea in London. Booked online and added a dietary requirement of no dairy ( not difficult to do in this day and age ) We arrived and were seated at our table, it took an eternity for someone to serve us. Once again I reemphasized I had requested a dairy free option. At this point it went horribly wrong. A pot of tea with soya milk arrived and so did the main event I had a fairly decent selection of sandwiches and pastries however my wife was given three finger sandwiches and a bowl of fruit ( I kid you not ) Not being funny but this is a high end hotel charging £50 per person plus service charge. By this point the moment had passed and we just wanted to leave, we spoke to the waitress Olena who in fairness was embarrassed for us and got us the bill. At this point the manager bought a dairy free chocolate soufflé out. What is going on !!!! I wanted afternoon tea not a fruit salad and a pudding In fairness after the total fiasco we were given the option to only pay the service charge which we did. This hotel lists vegetarian and vegan options on its menu, I dread to think what a vegan would get maybe a fruit salad or a chickpea dhal Overall disappointing and overshadowed what I had planned to be a treat for us both It's not difficult to cater for dietary requirements and if you can't don't list it on your menu and online booking In short.........don't ask for dietary reque

My partner has a weakness for afternoon tea and has been to a number of high profile hotel and restaurants in London and elsewhere. So to 'feed' her weakness booked afternoon tea in the Royal Horseguards Lounge. bBeautifully and impressive to say the least. More to the point were the staff who were very professional, efficient , polite and went to great lengths to cater for my partners request to alter the menu which we have to say was superb. A special mention goes to Tanya - a quiet polite efficient waitress who looked after us so well. Many thanks.

My friend and I was so looking forward to having afternoon tea at this hotel, but what a let down it was. We went on a Groupon voucher so didn't get seated in " the lounge" but escorted round to another room that seemed to cater for the "Groupon voucher " customers. There was no niceness about this section at all. The waitress however was lovely and very attentive. She got us a pimms each (as we didn't fancy the 3 cocktails they advertised), this was the best bit of the afternoon tea. The sandwiches were OK except the "orange" breaded one which was very dry. The scones where like bricks and crumbled on cutting and very dry, the cakes again not nice at all. We ended up leaving most of the cakes. Definitely will not be making another visit their. Very disappointing.

High tea in The Lounge was a perfectly relaxing experience. A bottomless amount of your choice of tea, a three-tier plating of savory to sweets and a staff that is very attentive. Olena and Tanya served us and gave every need the utmost attention. Both were very sweet and engaging. I highly recommend the experience. No rush to finish. Just an enjoyable afternoon.

We had a beautiful afternoon tea at the Royal Horseguards. We were greeted by a very smiley Olena who explained the choices and took our order for drinks etc. The food was incredible and just enough for two and the pomegranate tea was the best I have ever tasted, I would love to know where they source it. The whole hotel was decorated with Christmas trees and lights with a lovely cinnamon smell everywhere. The fires were burning and it felt really cosy. This is one of our favourite places to have afternoon tea and the festive menu did not disappoint. Thank you to Olena for making it so lovely.

Visited yesterday for The Kings Coronation afternoon tea which I'd brought for my neighbours 75th Birthday. We were servered by Tania who was very attentive. The food was delicious & we found the selection of sandwiches & cakes to be lovely. We opted for the strawberries & cream tea which is their signature tea, it was very pleasant not overly sweet & complimented the food nicely. I had the included sparkling wine & my friend the pimms cocktail which we both enjoyed. As it was a celebration, we were also given a complimentary birthday cake. All in all it was a great experience, great service & excellent value for money.

Started off well when we asked the lovely young American guy on reception where we needed to go. He was helpful and lovely. We were there for the afternoon tea experience which my friend had very kindly booked for my birthday as a surprise . my friend does not drink tea so asked for a coffee which, to be honest I expected to arrive in a cafetiere as per other afternoon teas I have been to . But when she then asked for another coffee she was told she would be charged for this “not my rules” the waitress said with shrug of shoulders and after that proceeded to ignore us did not make eye contact did not ask us if we were okay etc. Another couple of tables around us were complaining on the basis that they had asked for vegan and various alternative food for allergies and yet they were served exactly the same as us which obviously could be very dangerous in certain circumstances. Tables were not cleared, loads of people were hanging around waiting for a table. Lovely 5 star hotel and I would always have liked to have stayed here, but this experience has really put me off to be honest.

Very unimpressive afternoon tea. The lounge area was pleasant until we realised people were using it to walk through with their suitcases and also participants of an event going on. Music was not exactly background, too loud and 'tinny'. Staff were friendly enough but rather than having just one server, there were several coming and going who didn't appear to know who was doing what. Very hard to get anyone's attention. Food was average; sandwiches rather tasteless and one filling we had no idea at all. Obviously not made in house going by the patisserie van outside. We booked this using a voucher and my sister was subsequently charged extra for coffee instead of tea. On top of this they added a service charge which we only paid half of as not satisfactory service. Will not return.

Attended the Royal Horseguards Hotel for afternoon tea as a Christmas family gathering. I had booked for 8 of us to join as it was an opportunity for us all to get together and celebrate my mom's birthday. Unfortunately the overall experience left a lot to be desired. We suffered a catalogue of issues: - the carpets were filthy (see pictures) - the decor was old - we ordered some champagne and had to send the glasses back as they were clearly dirty - the Christmas lights above the table were dirty and broken - the service was OK but the main waiter was very junior and when I reminded him of my mom's surprise discreetly, he walked up to her and shook her hand then didn't even bring the surprise we had ordered - the cake and sandwiches were not the freshest and they were brought in even before our tea pot or the champagne being served - the scones were hot - our table cloth wasn't the cleanest and our table was place in the middle of a hallway When we try to speak to the manager of the restaurant, they had left. I tried to call them but reception didn't know who to put me through. The entire experience really left us short-changed despite the fact that at £48 this is the cheapest of afternoon tea. If you want something special I wouldn't recommend this hotel. This is a disappointment because it was my second visit there and previously it was a lovely one. In the words of the staff the entire needs to be refurbished. Shame that it is not being done and the manager takes notice.

I'd asked if ther was anything special they could do for my friends 60th, they said they could write in icing Happy Birthday on a plate and put a cake with it. They bought it out and it looked fine, on closer in spection they had written 68 on the plate. They had aged my friend bu 8 years, we were not impressed.

After many visits for afternoon tea in the past we was very disappointed. We entered the hotel not to be greeted by anyone although many staff were around. We stood for a while waiting to be seated before being greeted. Without meaning to be rude it was a bit of a faulty towers experience. The service was dreadful and not worth the money when so many other places are offering such higher standards for a lot less. Two members of staff were having a disagreement the that we felt it should have been behind closed doors. It all felt a bit hectic and staff were unsure who to serve and when. Sorry to say it was not worth the money and the experience is a long way off what we have experienced in the past. Such a shame but needs a lot of improvement the atmosphere was Dreadful.

Service was very poor in general. Upon arrival, numerous staff walked past and ignored people in the queue for the afternoon tea. They came across as lazy and indifferent. Staff incredibly inattentive during service. We had to try and capture the attention of a waiter who then told us he worked in the dining room and couldn't help us with our request. When we did finally speak to a relevant staff member, the item never arrived and we had to ask again. The food was fine but not especially plentiful. Cakes and scones were very nice but the sandwiches had literally a scraping of filling, barely even visible. I've never seen such a pitiful attempt. Afternoon tea area was more like a lobby and no views. Would not recommend. There are far better afternoon teas in London for not much more.

Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. The food and service were both first class, so if you're thinking of a tea for two in central London this place is definitely worth visiting.

We chose this restaurant for Afternoon Tea specifically because they said they offer a gluten free version. The gluten free version tasted stale and store bought. Come to find out the items were purchased at the grocery store for 70 pence per item and there...

Lovely friendly hostess serving tea and champagne. Too much food for us so she packed the cakes in a box for us to take to the room and enjoy.

After being told I'd need to give up gluten and dairy two years ago, I thought I would never have afternoon tea again (one can DIY but it doesn't compare.) This experience was so delightful, it brought tears to my eyes. Lounge is lovely, sandwiches...

Just got back from the royal horse guard hotel for high tea. Was disappointed that people did not follow the dress code and most people there looked scruffy. People in dirty old trainers, over washed t-shirt and generally looking unkempt. It diminishes the opulent experience...

Afternoon tea is one of the gastronomic pleasures anyone can enjoy. The RH does it so well. Is never noisy, everything seems to slow down and help you relax and enjoy your treat. Everything is beautifully served and seems freshly made; love the entire thing.

We were given this afternoon tea as a present. The menu for the afternoon tea looks good... but fails to deliver. "Mini brioche and sandwiches Ham, cheddar and mustard Chicken and pesto Cucumber, crème fraiche and smoked salmon Egg mayonnaise and cress." What we actually got was four very small squares of sandwich each, consisting of just the smoked salmon and the egg mayonnaise. Some small cakes as described and a scone. Some of the bread was not the freshest we've ever had, not stale, just not as soft as fresh bread. We were only offered one cup of tea or coffee. Every other afternoon tea we've had at other venues at least offered us additional drinks. It's not as if the place was busy, there were only a few occupied tables. As for atmosphere and ambiance, there was none, especially as the cleaner was hoovering around us and then using a floor polisher.

Delicious breakfast that included the entire buffet. Dinner and drinks in the bar were also nice. Great service.

Service was horrible, menu was supposed to be set but everything was in the middle half the stuff on the menu was missing. Entertainment was horrible. Not fun at all. Drinks came 40 mins after ordering all the time. Not friendly staff or service. Do not go, not worth it at all. Food was not great and you don’t even get what is on the set menu. We were a big group so we had to opt in for the set menu but we all left hungry. Staff is not helpful either, they made 11 people sit on a small table we ended up squeezing and sharing chairs. Disgusting. Service needs to be improved and food quality also. Do not believe what is on social media. Disgusting place.
