Had a lovely dinner with 2 friends. I was very impressed with how smoothly operated everything was, staff really knew how to do their job - credit to them. I decided to go for the small fish and chips, followed by some cocktails - and even made use of the beer garden! Would go back, and also recommend to others. Thanks!!

We showed up on an unusually quiet night, which was bonus for us. The staff were very nice and the service was great. The food was great, there are many superb Scottish/British classic dishes to choose from. The Cullen Skink was great, wish i had gotten the larger portion to start! The Lamb Shank was also very good and the meat fell off the bone. The sauce was okay it had little bit of a light taste, could of done with something a bit richer to cut through the gamey flavour of the lamb. The sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge pudding were both very nice.

Here for a 50th. Booking process intense: contacted 4 times to confirm our booking! Had to pre-order food. Food not up to much. In no particular order: Mixed grill - on the menu it says not got the faint hearted. On reflection this may be more a comment on the quantity of food Vs the price. A tough piece of rump steak. A slice of bacon masquerading as a gammon steak. Half a lamb chop. Two ?Richmond sausages. Chips. Arrabiata pasta - very poor. Made with economy pasta which had fragmented by service. Bitter sauce, presumably due to the prodigious use of green peppers. Macaroni cheese - £13! This dish had been made far in advance and rejuvenated for service by inclusion of cheese on the top. Fish cakes. Deep fried garbage. Served with some chaotically arranged leaves. Steak pie. Sky scraper of pastry atop a meagre filling that looked like dog food. Halloumi fries: not sure what the coating was but it was very spicy 🔥 All in all, very disappointed. Staff inattentive.

Both my partner and I were happy with our meals home fishcakes (although only 2 and a small salad and Cullen skink. The children’s meals were terrible, microwave incredibly doughy pizza and chips . It really annoys me how restaurants think it’s ok to feed children terrible food while the adult meals are good quality , homemade food.

1 saturday in Dunoon and we chose this bar on recommendation from our friends who are moving here soon. Great service and even though they had 2 parties scheduled thst evening it was never raucous or cramped. It remained well lit through the evening which was great as some places can be a bit dark. We had a great time chatting near the bar. I did notice that there were a few ladies in pairs or small groups just out for a few drinks so this must be known as a safe/comfortable place that likely doesnt get much trouble.

It is more than a decade since I visited Dunoon and time has not treated this once couthy resort town well. In the sixties, my granny would spend a couple of weeks there in the summer and visits to the town were frequent in the decade, when various family members were participating in running and jumping athletics events at the Cowal Highland games. The buildings on the once-marvellous Victorian pier have been allowed to fall into rack and ruin, giving you a very bad impression right from the off. Walking up Argyll Street is similarly depressing, with countless run-down and unoccupied shops adding to the impression that the town is really struggling for survival. Indeed, many of them have had a notice from the proprietor of a local enterprise almost pleading with the owners to do something about the sorry state of their property. Although I had been recommended to take lunch in the Lorne, the outside is, like much of the town, nothing to write home about. BUT..... The inside is a revelation. It really is extraordinary. From dilapidated to delightful, the contrast between the exterior and the interior is jaw-dropping. Everything about the Lorne is absolutely smashing, with well-trained, friendly and helpful staff, keen to make you feel at home. Although there is an extensive menu, I decided to opt for one of the specials on the blackboard, a soup and sandwiches combo for £9.95 plus a pot of tea for £2.90. The soup was home-made and extremely tasty; the minute steak toasted sandwich and fries served alongside it in hardly any time at all. The toilet, like the rest of the establishment was sparklingly clean. When the time came to return to the pier to catch a ferry across the Clyde, the staff were more than happy to summon a taxi to the door within minutes.

Visited the Lorne for dinner on a cold, wet Monday evening. We were warmly greeted on arrival and shown to a table where the serving staff explained what the soup of the day was and what specials were on that day. We ordered Cullen Skink and Haggis & black pudding bon bons as starters then the sirloin steak special for mains, which included a bottle of wine. The lady serving was cheerful, friendly and accommodating at all times and the food arrived promptly and was absolutely delicious. I have given 5 stars for food, service and atmosphere and if I could give 5 Michelin stars I would give them too. Overall it was a fantastic meal and I would highly recommend the Lorne to anyone looking for a restaurant in Dunoon.

Food was not what we were expecting, chips were obviously frozen chips, macaroni was from a tin and the battered chicken was also frozen. This was the special of the day. All tasted like it came from the frozen aisle of Iceland which is fine when at home but not from a restaurant and certainly not for the price..kids pizza was a microwave pizza which you can get from the shop for £1. Really disappointing from somewhere that has such a high rating.

Unfortunately it's a hit and miss with the prawn linguini as they are either a decent amount of prawns or something like spot the random prawn. I usually have this dish everytime but I will note that for the price you will need it to have a decent amount of prawns for the price.. obviously I will raise my concerns at my next visit as the food is very good and outstanding service and dedicated quality of food presented... just need consistency I think in the quality of quantity but the flavour is always very good..
