Just by chance we came across the restaurant, and thankgod we did, food was that good we went back. Food is just amazing, the presentation, price and staff were brilliant.. pity we're on holiday as I'd love to come back every week.. 5*****

Was in for my daughter special birthday lunch. We could not fault it. Food was amazing staff very friendly and would recommend for any occasion.

Had a lovely lunch one day and sat in for dinner a few times. Food was excellent. Good portions and value for money

We visit regularly and cannot fault anything about it. My husband is wheelchair-bound and they go above and beyond to accommodate us. Never had a bad meal (handcut chips are absolutely the best!) Yes, sometimes it's busy and you might have a wee wait but it's well worth it

Visited this place on Sunday 15 November with my partner.Arrived there pretty early, it was raining and cold. We were given a table outside in the beer garden while waiting to have our dinner inside.I ordered a Pina Colada which is my signature cocktail and my partner chose a pint. 15 minutes after ordering I went to the to the ladies. I had to wait outside as the Covid guidelines apply to toilet services. On returning, I noticed that the drinks we ordered were out of site. My partner briefed me about how the waiter 'ignored him' numerous times when he 'shouted' on him (to follow-up on our order). Instead, the waiter went and served another couple that arrived well after us. My partner decided to go to the bar and he was pretty upset with the wait and the rudeness. No excuse as the place was barely full compared to the number of empty tables. After a while our drinks arrived, thank goodness after having to wait almost 45 minutes. My Pina Colada was terrible, awful and tasted like coconut milk. Sums it up, just coconut milk. I struggled to drink half of it. No ice, just milky. Decided to go for a gin and bottled tonic water. The beer garden is pretty warm and comfortable, with big gas heaters and a huge gazebo that helps retain the heat. The benches accommodate a large group of people. Bonus points for them!!After our second round of drinks we went inside for our dinner. We ordered steak and sides onion rings. My partner chose lamb dish. We did not have to wait that long, for food. the lady who served us inside was polite and very apologetic about the incident earlier on. Sadly, the presentation on the food was poor and not inspiring. (I have posted the pictures below). Again this was a let down.The food was superb in taste, but we can al agree that presentation sells half of the work. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my medium rare steak, and so did my partner enjoy his lamb. Would I come back here again? No. There's room for improvement regarding their services. The place prides on their beer garden, lovely fantastic that's great. But overlook other important things.Would I recommend the place? Yes, if you want to go out for a pint with your mates at the beer garden.

Visited here for the first time with my boyfriend, we enjoyed the food and would definitely recommend, staff were very friendly and the service was super fast

Great meal, staff were lovely and probably best sweet potato fries I have had. Only reason not a five star the whiskey sour should be dry shaken after shaken with ice but as a cocktail barman thats just me being fussy. Excellent nonetheless strongly recommend.

We have eaten at the Lorne Dunoon on a number of occasions (all be it midweek) and have found the food to be great and the staff excellent as reflected in Tripadvisor reviews.On Sunday the 7th November 2020 we called the restaurant by telephone to make a reservation for a late lunch and were advised that a table was available but for an hour only. In my opinion this was cutting things a bit fine but we agreed to the limitation.We arrived at the Lorne a little early because it was such a cold day (30 minutes) and this was where it all started to go dreadfully wrong.When confronted be the the Maitre D' Hotel (a young girl about 18/19) we explained that we were a little early for our reservation the game of 'NO' started.The conversation went pretty much like this and every "No" was sub fixed with the outrageously insincere word 'sorry :-"We are some what early for our reservation, is there any possibility that a table might be made available?"Answer "No.....sorry.""Ok, is it possible that we can sit in these two vacant seats at the bar until our reservation is available.Answer "No...... Covid regulations sorry"! "Perhaps we could stand out of the way in the corridor outside the Gents Toilet"?Yes, you guessed....."No....... not allowed sorry! but you can stand outside (in the cold for thirty minutes).Obviously this staff member was having a bad day and didn't want to be there but in fairness the restaurant was busy.Long and short of this story is that we asked the Lorne to give our three o'clock table to someone else and made our way back into town and found an alternative restaurant where we were made more than welcome and enjoyed a lovely lunch.The question is would we use the Lorne again and the answer is yes, but only mid week. The warning is if you choose to eat in this establishment be prepared for poor service and surly staff and have a plan B prepared.Finally, I noticed that a recent Tripadvisor review at this this restaurant also reported poor service.You would think that at a time when hospitality due to Covid is reporting difficult times that customer service might be a priority.

We visited yesterday for lunch taking advantage of a rare dry day. We had booked in advance and may have secured the last table. Warmly welcomed and showed to a private table in gazebo with a heater and nice lighting. We ordered from a good selection of gins whilst we waited for our food.Between us we had nachos, cullen skink and the seafood platter. All of the food was very good with the seafood platter being brilliant. I had the small portion which was very filling and the ingredients were excellent quality.There were good social distancing measures in place and the toilets were spotless with a one way system in place. We are looking forward to our next visit to Dunoon to enjoy this restaurant again.

We enjoyed our first meal at the Lorne Bar. We had a table on their sunny balcony and the meal was great.The second time we visited my Daughter decided to order some Nachos which were OK but two weeks later we are still trying to come to terms with how they can charge almost £15 for a small portion with a bit of cheese on.

Went for what I thought was going to be a nice and relaxing and enjoyable lunch to have left feeling like I have just wasted an afternoon, can’t and won’t fault the food and half of the staff, our first waitress was beyond rude she never told us the soups or specials never asked if my child wanted a drink when we got our drinks my child still never got offered a drink we had to return our drinks as it was flat, after this we were ignored and left with with no drinks for half an hour and had to flag down other waiters.. the woman was beyond rude and carried on waiting on other tables knowing we were left without! The waiter Ben I think his name was couldn’t of been more helpful! I’m absolutely raging that I have just spent 45 pound oh rudeness and won’t be returning!!

Visited whilst on holiday in nearby Strone. Generous portions and very tasty food. Goat cheese starter was delicious Staff were friendly

We went to the Lorne today for lunch. I had macaroni with hand cut chips and I have to say it was the best that I had ever had. My husband had the seafood platter as he absolutely loves it and can’t see passed it. The smoked salmon pate with the platter is the best ever. The service is always excellent and very friendly. I would highly recommend The Lorne for food especially during COVID as they have done absolutely everything to protect their staff and customers.

Top notch food. Top notch service. 10/10. You won’t be disappointed. I was really impressed with The Lorne and I don’t write reviews but on this occasion I felt I had to.

What a great find. Food was excellent & service was super friendly. Suited my veggie husband down to the ground with what he classed as best med veg salad ever with freshly made sweet potato fries. My burger was really delish as we’re the hand cut chips!! Thought I would have mint aero cheesecake but so full Sadly I had to miss out but next time definitely!! The staff were so helpful & friendly & brought our wee dog a bowl of water which he enjoyed as it was a really sunny day. All in all one place we would be happy to recommend & look forward to going back. Should add very covid aware with all necessary precautions in place.

Stopped of for lunch, great menu with an excellent choice of food. Settled on the seafood platter and the chicken liver patty to share. The best smoked salmon and salmon patty ever, lovely prawns and mackerel. Excellent patty. Very classy restaurant with very down to earth prices. Attentive staff and excellent Covid policies in place.

Went here for lunch on Friday and sat in the bar area because we had our dog with us. The food was lovely and excellent value for money. The staff here are fantastic, really lovely, genuine people. Loved hearing about one of the ladies new puppy. We felt so welcome especially as we had to pop back in due to an issue with our holiday rental. They accommodated us no problem at all. Will make a point of visiting the Lorne every time we visit Dunoon!

In Dunoon during the COVID pandemic we met family for a socially distanced meal here. Despite the restrictions we had a warm and attentive welcome before enjoying an outstanding meal. The haggis starter was so big that I wondered what size the main course would be. I followed that with a marvellous mixed grill whilst my wife had a Cajun chicken burger which she said was equally good. Well worth a visit

stopped here for lunch on our way to argyleshire , we ate in the beer garden on a sunny day and we didn,t want to leave we found the food very tasty and well presented by very friendly staff the owners have put a lot of work into the beer garden during the lockdown and it shows, it,s a must stop the mext time we are passing through

Excellent food, well organised covid system. Attractive surroundings, friendly staff. Whats not to like? If you want a decent meal, its hard to beat. Also includes a beer garden if you want to eat outside.

Had Nachos in here £15 for a few crisps and a few chillis🤮I’m sure this dish could have had more effort put in to it to justify the price.

Had a drink here on our staycation to Dunoon,found it very pleasant,didn’t have food but everything was set up with screens so felt safe

We came for dinner when visiting Dunoon after the restaurant had been recommended to us. On arriving the restaurant was lovely, warm and welcoming and our booth was ready for us. We were a party of 4 with a two year old. Drinks were ordered - a beer, a shandy, a pina colada and a non alcoholic mojito - all lovely. For food, three of us opted for the Cullen skink to start and were not disappointed! This was absolutely beautiful! Didn’t even need salt or pepper - just perfect. Would most definitely be back just for another bowl of this! There was also a bruschetta ordered which was beautifully presented and seasoned but could have done with more bread.For mains we ordered two lamb shanks, a lasagne and a double cheeseburger. Being completely honest, the starters were nicer than our mains. The lamb was seasoned beautifully and the gravy to die for, however when ordering a slow braised lamb shank you’d expect it to fall of the bone. It definitely wasn’t as tender as either of us would have liked and it also was a little more fatty than we would have liked. Still both enjoyed our plates - just wouldn’t order the same again.Burger was homemade and huge! Absolutely lovely. The lasagne was the most disappointing of the 4 main dishes. Very dry and loaded with strong cheddar cheese which took away from the pasta itself. Also it stated on the menu that it came with a side salad - it didn’t it came with a garnish of leaves which isn’t the same thing.Dessert was 3 galaxy caramel cheesecakes - the only things we never got photos of as they were gone so quickly! Absolutely gorgeous!All in all a great night was had, staff were friendly and attentive and not at all phased when my toddler smashed a glass as we were finishing up! We will most definitely be back to the Lorne - a great find in Dunoon and would highly recommend!

Booked a table for 3 adults and 4 children, when arriving the waitress seated us under the wrong name, made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. Food was faultless absolutely amazing however the staff made us feel really isolated and even made a cheeky remark when we asked to split the payment for the bill which was over £100. Shocking customer service will not be going back in future.

Was visiting Dunoon on a family holiday with my parents. Passed the Lorne on out first night (Fri) and decided we would have a meal their on the monday 24th August.All 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal, food was fantastic, service was excellent and staff were very friendly.I recommend the Mac and Cheese, its possibly the best I've ever had. My only complaint was that the Lorne was fully booked for the tues (our last night).If you're in Dunoon and looking for amazing food then this is your place.

Went yesterday for lunch, was told there was a 15/20minutes wait for food. Got seated and ordered our food. 45 minutes later, still nothing had arrived. Went to leave and was told sorry and free cups of tea that we had already had. Very disappointed at not getting our food after reading all the great reviews.

Visted the lorne bar while on hoilday and was really impressed, waitresses very helpfull and polite, the meals were very good and not over priced, the southern fried burgers were really good, lasagne could do with a bit of work but still good, wide range of drinks and desserts, everything presented well.

We visited here for a family meal whilst staying at Hunters Quay. Food was lovely, but I am fussy and got quite a few fatty bits in my steak, which is not ideal. Also I would say it is definitely over priced. We ordered the prawns for starter and 3 prawns with some lettuce was £7.95. Drink is also really pricey. Overall the staff were lovely and food was nice but due to being so overpriced, we are going to try other eateries on our return next month.

We visited Dunoon for a day trip and were looking for a dog friendly place to eat. I popped into the bar of The Lorne and enquired whether they had a beer garden and whether we could take our dog in. I was greeted by very friendly staff who directed us to the beer garden and made us and our dog feel very welcome.Our waitress explained that it was their first day open following the restrictions imposed by the government and that they were getting used to the new working systems. They were well set up to ensure that they and all their customers remained safe and had a good track and trace system in place.The food was delicious and very reasonably priced and they made sure that our dog had his own bowl with fresh water.They were a few teething problems for the staff but this did not negatively impact on our experience and they were quickly rectified.Overall and great meal and fantastic staff. Would recommend and return.

We visited The Lorne Bar with our dog and we were made to feel really welcome. Staff were very attentive and made sure our dog had a fresh bowl of water. There were lots to choose from on the lunch and main menu and the food was delicious. We sat in the beer garden which was extremely clean and tidy. It was the first day of reopening, so the staff were getting used to working with the new rules and guidelines and were very good at explaining the track and trace system in place. This was our first time going out for a meal since before lockdown, so we were a little cautious but felt safe the whole time while there. We will definitely return and can highly recommend a visit.

We arrived early on a Monday evening and the kitchen was open we had the smoked salmon pate followed by the chicken with haggis house special, both were really delicious and we would thoroughly recommend visiting if you are in Dunoon. We will definitely be back.

Had a fabulicious lunch with my partner and a friend, staff were very professional and explained what was on offer inc specials, we opted for the Cullen Skink, salmon & haddock fish cakes and the house burger, accompanied by a bottle of prosseco and a lager. All ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ we will be back on our next visit.

Really good food, drink and service from the last few visits. Only one downside, the venison special was quite a small meal.

Been to all the local restaurants in Dunoon and this place does the best food, by far! Obviously well ran and managed. Staff are pleasant and accommodating... The salmon and parma ham with beetroot mash was really lovely last time I visited. Great place to visit with friends or family. Always a warm welcome and an all-round great ambience and varied range on food and drinks menu This is now my first choice when in Dunoon.

Sunday lunch and the restaurant was very busy with groups and family meals. The food was very good and nicely presented if a little slow but they were particularly busy. The staff were efficient and kept their cool even chatting to customers too. Would certainly go back but perhaps at a less busy time.

Christmas dinner for 2 oldies. Food excellent and young staff so pleasant and able. Quite a few from village of Strachur there, emphasising the Lorne is the place for us to go.

My wife and I went to the Lorne for a meal on Friday evening, despite not having a booking we were accomadated by a very pleasant waitress. While we waited the table next to us was populated by a large and quite noisy group. Both the waiting staff came and offered us an alternative seat and expressed their concern. This was first class customer attention and I can praise them highly for their attention and care. The food was very good and a pleasant place to dine, although very busy.

I was recently at The Lorne for a family gathering. We all chose something different from the menu but the food arrived quickly, was well cooked and we all thought our choice delicious. staff were efficient and friendly. A pleasant evening was had by all.

I have been yearning for fish and chips, as we currently live outside of the UK - and these were the fish and chips I was looking for! Also, my husband’s venison meal was equally polished off very happily. Lovely, friendly staff also.

Wished was a little cozier, but I suppose that's not what they were aiming for... But more importantly, the food was delicious and the drinks were always filled quickly!

Have just returned home from a 4 night stay close to Dunoon and ate dinner here for half of those nights the place was very clean and tidy, decorated nicely, staff were all very friendly and the food was really really good, would not hesitate to recommend The Lorne Bar to anyone looking to eat in Dunoon.

After asking locals we were advised to go to the Lorne Bar for lunch. Thank you for sound advice. We had a delicious meal with the Cullen Skink soup a meal on its own. The staff were very attentive and good atmosphere. Something you don't see anymore is linen napkins the sign of an excellent place to eat. Will go back

Visited the Lorne with friends and our 8 year old sons this evening as we are on holiday and staying at Hunters Quay. The food was all amazing, so nice and fresh and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed all our food and can not wait until we visit again when we are back at caravan, def worth a visit.

My son and I had hamburgers which were delicious and massive. My wife had scampi. All meals were well prepared The downside was there was some time before it arrived. However, you could say it was freshly cooked! There did not seem much benefit in the special offer. The resturant is very comfortable and the waitress was very friendly and pleasant. I would certainly return.

Dropped in for dinner on a recent visit to the Dunoon area and pleasantly surprised by the choice and quality of the menu. We arrived on fish night and had the chefs special of sea bass with a roasted parsnip soup starter. Both were amazing in taste, quality, presentation and innovation. |Wonderful meal, wish we had discovered it sooner.

Fantastic meal in this place. Couldn’t recommend it enough. Great service and great food. Lovely atmosphere in the place. We went in for a main course and ended up having a three course meal and it was first class

good food and terrific service....one of the Towns premier places for lunch or dinner. Steak and Ale pie and an ice cold IPA made a long days journey terrific.

Looked nice, but as we entered we encountered a very rude barman who did not in any way make us feel welcome.

Dunoon is not over blessed with fine dining establishments so we were a little at a loss on our first night in Scotland. However the Lorne was an understated gem. Although listed as a bar it is really a modern restaurant with a small bar annexed to serve it.

Booked a meal here for our friends 80th birthday, lunchtime!

The large bald bouncer is nothing but a bully and an arganrant idiot he thinks he owns the places and should not have a job in the industry.

Had been here for a drink on Friday so headed here for lunch in their sunny beer garden. It’s really nice outside. There were about 14 of us. We waited quite long for food but it was nice. They forgot my onion rings but I was refunded. My mum ordered chicken mayo baked potato and after a while she was told they didn’t have any. That was suppose to be refunded from our bill but it wasn’t. I’m sure this was a genuine mistake. It was such a lovely day on Sat that it wasn’t much of a trial to sit waiting on our food. Everybody enjoyed what they had.

Amazing food and portion sizes! They accomodated our group of ten no problem at all, and the wait for food was very reasonable considering it is all freshly made.

Buchen einen Tag vorher war wegen der Highland Games nötig. Als Gericht des Tages gab es Langustinen, ein Festessen zum akzeptablen Preis. Angenehm war auch, dass es auch kleinere Portionen zur Auswahl gab.

This place started off strong but a recent visit with my wee girl for lunch resulted in a long wait to be served. frosty reception from staff and the food came out partially cooked. chips were raw and club sandwich had been sitting on the pass resulting in the bread being harder than an Egyptian crossword. disappointing given that it wasnt even busy.

The Lorne never fails to impress. I can throughly recommend the steak and ale pie, and most definitely the strawberry daiquiri, go for the non frozen version.

Never fails to please. Great food, service & cocktails in a comfortable environment. Best hot-wings this side of 'The World' & a pretty fabulous Espresso Martini makes The Lorne a pleasure to visit. Do not miss this on your way through Dunoon!

We met with friends for dinner and had the best meal of our stay in Dunoon. Everyone of us, adults and young adults alike, enjoyed our meal . Very reasonably priced for the quality of the meal. An additional 3 friends joined our party as we were finishing, joined us for a drink and were made to feel equally welcome. The atmosphere was great, it was a busy night but we never felt we were rushed or left waiting, The staff were very attentive and cheery. Highly recommend a visit and we will be back next year.

We visited The Lorne Bar whilst on a mini break at the beginning of August. They managed to fit us in without a reservation, and I’m so glad they did! Lovely food served piping hot and a great menu selection. Also enjoyed a cocktail and a pint for the husband! Very friendly staff and quick service - recommended!

Came in mid week for lunch. There was a burger special on the board. The waitress explained you could have any burger with any selection of fries and extra toppings plus a drink for £10. Seemed good. She also explained that you could have any soft drink or a glass of wine or a pint of beer all in the price. We ordered 2 burgers and 2 sparkling waters. When the bill came we were charged an extra £3 for the sparkling water. The waitress said sparkling water was not in the deal and walked off. We just left having been conned. Would have been cheaper to have ordered 2 pints of beer and left them on the table. Shocking customer service. Will not be back.

The Lorne has a super dog friendly beer garden but even better they have a table No 10 inside which you can book and is also dog friendly.

We're so glad we asked in a shop about where to get lunch. They suggested several places, but number one was the Lorne Hotel they called it. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was nice, comfortable, appealing. Waitress offered a taste of a bear I was considering. Definitely recommend.

On nous a recommandé ce restaurant par des locaux et ce fut une bonne suggestion. Nous avons très bien mangé. Il faut juste commander au bar. Les serveuses ne prennent pas les commandes. Nous avons mangé sur la terrasse et c’était agréable avec le prix des mouettes.

Excellent accueil, plats locaux succulents. Ne sachant quoi choisir, nous avons commandé plusieurs entrées pour découvrir la gastronomie locale. Quelle belle surprise !!! Haggis, pâté de saumon et surtout le Cullen Skink, une sorte de soupe de poisson crème, à tomber par terre !!!

We received a very warm welcome in The Lorne. My husband and I both had the steak pie and chips and we agreed it was one of the best we have had.

Every single thing we ordered was perfect. Cocktails at the bar, appetizers: prawn cocktail and haggis, main course: rack of lamb and lasagne. Great low key background music soundtrack unfortunately drowned out by the screaming infants at two separate tables. After 8pm I shouldn’t have to listen to someone else’s screaming babies. Again, food was amazing.

the food at this place is amazing, i had the best haddock and salmon fishcake i have ever ate in my life , lovely beer garden to eat in as well.

We were down visiting a friend and we came here for lunch. The food was excellent and the service we got from Marie and the staff was also excellent. The food and the drinks we had were good value and we liked the atmosphere. This was our first visit and we will definitely be back !

Myself and my husband visited tonight as it was fish night and we fancied seafood.

Myself, partner and our niece and nephew have just had our first visit to The Lorne. As we are not local we had turned to trip advisor and seen it was recommended by many. When we arrived we were greeted by really friendly staff and this pleasant service was maintained throughout. They have a kids menu which includes ice cream and the main menu has plenty to choose from. I would highly recommend the macaroni cheese and lasagne , yumm!!!

I had the fish&chips; very good! The Lorne Bar is very unassuming from the outside but be prepared to be wowed! This is a great spot and worth a visit!
