Superb service very welcoming vibe. Perfect pub if you want a lovely day out with friends and sweetest people running it. Very friendly, and exceptional food.

Excellent pub. I had Lamb Vindaloo with rice and Paratha and it was fantastic; lamb was tender and Paratha was terrific. My wife had a burger and she said that was great as well. Decent pint of “Proper Job” to polish it off. Will go back when we are next caravanning in the area!

A lovely pub which by all accounts is popular with the locals especially on curry nights. Service with a smile and had a lovely chat with chef. We opted for the full Sunday lunch and I have to say, it was probably THE best Sunday lunch I have ever eaten out. The gravy was absolutely delicious, vegetables cooked perfectly and the beef was pink with no fat in sight, every bit edible. Would recommend and we would probably make a special trip just to come back for the superb Sunday lunch.

The best chips in salisbury if not wiltshire!! the rest of the plate was a credit to the chef too - get this place on your to do list or miss out. By the way the beers is decent too …

Went for Mother's Day lunch. Set lunch of 2 or 3 courses. Great choices including full roast dinner. Absolutely lovely with loads of veg and spoilt for choice on the puds. We have eaten here on many occasions for lunch, dinner and takeaway and we are never disappointed.

An amazing family and dog friendly local village pub. Food is amazing, cooked fresh to order and we have also had takeaways in the past. They don't have a kids menu but if you ask they will happily help. The land lady, land lord and staff are very friendly and warm welcoming.

Fantastic authentic Indian curry cooked fresh once ordered. First time we have eaten in this pub. We are staying locally for three weeks and we will definitely be returning here. We are going to try their Sunday roast next. I can’t recommend this pub highly enough. The staff from the moment we entered were attentive as if we were their best local customers. Friendly and on realising that we were staying locally invited us to come on a Friday evening if we wanted to experience a friendly warm local fun filled evening. It was so refreshing to walk into a pub that you are not local to and be treated in such a welcoming friendly inclusive manner.

What a hidden gem! They serve a beautiful Sunday roast. Worth going for the roast potatoes alone! We had such a lovely meal on Sunday, we returned the following Friday before our holiday ended and had a curry. For all curry lovers this is the place. Real authentic curry with all the side dishes to offer too. Try the Paratha, absolutely delicious. Staff very friendly. An absolute delight to find such good food in a great pub only a stones throw from where we were staying. Thank you

If you are looking for the best curry ever, look no further than The Lord Nelson pub in Winterslow. These are no ordinary pub curries but authentic delicious and great value. We haven’t had a better curry anywhere! You must try Ash’s tapas as well….chicken satay is very, very good, my favourite but everything else is tasty too. A lovely welcome awaits and if your experience is the same as ours then you are sure to enjoy your trip to The Lord Nelson.

We'd moved from our first choice because their menu was very vegan unfriendly. This was much better. Vegetable tart, onion bhajee, paratha, Brie wedges, margherita pizza, chicken bacon and leek pie. All good. The pub was very busy but we didn't have to wait too long. Service attentive. No time (or space) for pudding but, all in all, a good experience. Perhaps we'll avoid late Friday afternoon in the future but we are likely to return.

Well what a find , this is on the face of it a quiet village pub and as such could easily be passed by. If you enjoy a well kept pint and a good meal then i can recommend this place. I noted that quite a few people had mentioned the currys on here, and being a bit of a curry fan thought it sounded interesting , most pub currys are ok with some being better than others , so i thought we,d give it a go. Now i must admit that we visted on a Saturday lunchtime so some were not in curry mode at just gone 12 noon, so on to the menu. The starters feature quite a few indian treats so we thought we could test the water with these before committing to a full meal , cue onion bhajis, poppadoms and pickles , chicken tikka and salt and pepper squid ( yes i know the last ones a curve ball , but we like it) After that the order was for a chicken tikka madras , chicken tikka dopiaza, and two Guiness and steak pies. Now i guess you could argue that you can get better curry in a dedicated curry house and i am not going to dissagree with that , the point i am trying to get across here is that this was the best pub curry meal I have ever had in 40 + years ( trust me i,ve had a few in that time) As for the pies they were proper pies ,not a cassarole with a pastry lid and were served with well cooked chips and fresh veg , these again were descibed as being excellent. ( i know of a Dartmoor pub that sets the standard for pies and these were of a almost as good standard). Okay now for the not so good , I dont like to post negitive comments ( enough to go around as there is), but i will say that I could not run a pub or a kitchen that provides food and drink of this quality , so i am in no position to judge people on something i cannot do myself. But i can use a broom and a dustpan and these could be used to great effect in the garden . Overall yes a very good kind , will i go back ? Oh yes.

Fabulous old style pub, suffering a mix of Indian and classic pub dishes. Steak was good and at a reasonable price, The beer was superb as is the staff, highly recommended. They even offer takeaway!

Called in for lunch while out cycling on a Friday. Very friendly team, nice garden with individual booths as well as tables- so should be able to sit outside in poor weather. Plenty of space to lean bikes while eating, with easy access. Food (we had scampi/whitebait with chips) was excellent- in fact the chips were about the best I have ever had.

Stopped for lunch, a sunny Saturday. Sat in the garden in a pod. We both had chicken tikka curry and pilau rice with poppadums, and chutney tray! WOW SUPERB

Easy to find along the main road through Middle Winterslow. We came from Salisbury so about 15mins drive away. Glad we booked ahead for 7pm on a Saturday night as it soon filled up. We had the homemade beef burger and the homemade southern fried chicken burger - absolutely delicious and so filling! The staff were friendly and attentive. Jasmine and her front of house team made us feel welcome and Ash and the kitchen team obviously know what they're doing behind the scenes too! Prices were reasonable and reflected the good quality of the food. There's a decked area out front just off the road, and a beer garden with individual wooden huts. Inside is a pool table and there's seating either side of the bar, though the main dining is heading out towards the beer garden. Would definitely come again and would recommend.

We stopped in after walking the first leg of the Clarendon way. We were so surprised and delighted by the Indian curries that are on the menu. We had the best Indian meal we have had for such a long time it was excellent. And also the waitress was so lovely and friendly it was such a lovely welcome and a great experience and to top it all first class food. We are just telling all our friends and going to be returning soon. What a great find.

Visited Friday 21st October at 7pm, We were welcomed like family at the Lord Nelson and this was our first visit! The quaint village pub is a true Hidden Gem, We had a mixed Starter that was to die for and the selection of Main dishes and side covered every base. I have never had food so tasty and delicious at a pub. Service was great and the Guinness absolutely perfect. This place is very good value for money, welcoming, warm and friendly with tremendous Food and drink offering. A Wonderful experience.

Wow! We popped in with our dog at lunchtime last Monday and were shown to our own pod in the garden, complete with heater! It was so cosy and obviously Covid-19 safe.Our waitress Anoushka was totally brilliant....friendly, helpful, chatty and efficient. We are definitely planning to return. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed our meals at the Lord Nelson so much that we returned the next day, which was the last day of our holiday. We all chose different curries and Indian starters, that were freshly cooked to order. The curries were superb and we were blown away by the quality of the food and the level of service. The chef came out to ensure that he could tailor our curries to our tastes. Definitely the best curries that we have eaten! Lots to choose from on the menu, not just curry. Dogs welcome and very COVID safe. Thank you Lord Nelson for six lovely meals.

Arriving in the village we asked a couple of dog walkers to recommend somewhere for lunch nearby and were directed to this lovely place. We were met with a warm welcome and excellent food served in their pretty beer garden. Would definitely return.

Since the pub has changed hands again, the new owner has really turned it around. The food is amazing and the staff are very friendly. Every item on the menu is delicious and has us going back most weeks!

Had fantastic take away meal mixed kebab and wife had a cheeseburger, made welcome had nice drink whilst waiting for meal to be cooked. Jasmine and Ash are great hosts and locals are very friendly.

Landlord and landlady are both welcoming and eager to please. Food on offer is extensive and perfect for the time of year. Wide range of alcohol. Lovely atmosphere. Best village pub in a large radius. Typical village pub, clearly adored by the locals.

Have enjoyed a couple of meals here with friends. We all had different things to eat off the menu and none of us was disappointed, enjoyable, freshly cooked food. Very pleasant, welcoming staff and I would highly recommend. We will be visiting again very soon.

Since the New owners took over The Lord Nelson they have transformed a neglected pub by a previous landlord that did not care, to a wonderful warm friendly pub with fantastic tasting food,

It was a quiet Friday lunchtime and the pub was empty however we were made to feel very welcome. We only wanted a snack, so had a couple of baguettes which were served with very nice chips and a salad. Good quality pub grub and pretty good value for money. They had a decent selection of beers and a big selection of Gin (which we unfortunately didn’t have time to sample!). A good example of the traditional English village pub.

Called in yesterday as it is local to us, were greeted immediately by a very nice member of staff, even though they were very busy. She showed us to a table, gave us menus and explained the specials board, then took our drinks order. There was plenty of choices in the menu, then saw some tapas being served, liked the look of it and decided to order when staff member returned, she said it would be a little longer as kitchen was busy, no problem for us but nice to be advised.

Popped in to see Ash (chef & owner) and his lovely wife Jasmine for an early evening meal. Once again, delicious food; spicy lamb burger & made to order lamb korma curry. Beer is kept well. Great, friendly service; always happy to go there. We sat inside, new tables & chairs and the garden area looked very inviting. See you soon.

Booked our food the day before by email as we were a table of 11 for midday lunch. The food was tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful and the evening Tapas menu which was hanging up looked interesting so I will definitely give it a go at some point.

Small, friendly pub with lovely food. The food was good, some traditional and some fantastic Asian, with Asian Tapas. This suited me as I have a small appetite but love tasty, well cooked food. We were made very welcome and the service was excellent.

Visiting Wiltshire for anniversary weekend and stumbled across this pub as the local pub in West Dean were not doing evening food and so glad we did, the atmosphere was amazing the staff very attentive and the food was delicious. Would certainly recommend.

Have eaten there a few times recently and have been extremely satisfied. The food is excellent, but this is not a gastro pub. It is small and family & friends seem to staff it. Everyone is friendly. A very sociable space.

Our group of 14 walkers lunched here and everyone enjoyed the food. The home-made pies were especially appreciated, as was the friendly service. On an earlier visit to arrange our walk my wife and I had chicken curry and samosas - both of which were delicious. Many of our walkers said they were keen to return in the future.

Nine of us (8 adults & one baby) visited the Lord Nelson for Sunday lunch on 3rd February.

We visited for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed! My husband said it was one of the best pub roasts he has tasted in a long while. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and the staff were helpful and attentive. Well worth a visit!

As it’s not the Thursday night for the fish and chip van, we decided to give the pub down the road a try. We’ve been in the village nearly three years now and the pub never seemed that inviting until recently we heard that new and well regarded owners have taken over. So we were delighted to say the pub has been spruced up and so has the food on offer. Game pie and a chicken curry were chosen and both meals were very tasty. Apparently, Ash the new owner is getting in a tandoori oven and offer more Indian food offerings can’t wait!!

We had a wonderful evening here for my husband's birthday dinner. Wonderful curries and excellent friendly service.

Un pub que nunca nos atrajo en todos los años que hemos vivido en la localidad, ¡pero ahora tenemos el pub que merece un pueblo como Winterslow! Lo probé la semana pasada y disfruté cada minuto. El pollo al curry no era un curry ordinario de pub, no, muy por encima de eso. Me atrevería a decir que fue el mejor curry indio que he tenido (bueno, nunca he estado en la India, ¡pero sí!) Es interesante que en este clima actual donde los publicanos dicen que los pubs de las aldeas no pueden prosperar o que solo es la comida lo que trae a los apostadores: el Nelson estaba lleno de bebedores felices la noche que fuimos y menos personas comían. este lugar era mi local hace muchos años cuando mi compañero vivía en el pueblo. Regresé la semana pasada para un partido de cribbbage, el lugar se ha iluminado y la nueva administración parece estar llena de entusiasmo, la sala de billar separada en un edificio de conservación es espacios pero el bar principal es de estilo tradicional, vigas de madera y acogedor. una buena selección de cervezas y la cerveza de jengibre fue genial (conducir). Buen menú con influencia asiática y probablemente las mejores fichas que he tenido para muchos perros.

The first night out for a long time for a group of friends. A great night was had by all. The food was beautifully cooked. We had a selection of meals between us and each one of us were very happy with our food. Good pub type food but cooked with care and the chips were amazing. You don't normally notice chips with you meal unless they are cold but these chips stood out as probably the yummiest we had ever tried. The was a lovely friendly atmosphere and a pool table. Thank you very much!

Wow new landlords Jasmin and Ash have reopened and renovated this village pub.it was very run down and badly in need of some loving care and it certainly has got it

This is a friendly pub, serving a variety of good ales and wine. They have great live bands on various occasions, look out for posters. We had a great green thai curry for "darts food". Paul the landlord is very friendly. Dogs are welcome

Staff are very welcoming and absolutely fabulous nothing was too much trouble. Having see the food going to other tables decided to try the steak burger...would highly recommend it. Chips were great too. Good beer, hot food and lovely welcome.

The sandwiches were either ham or cheese or cheese and ham. The bread was ready sliced. They did arrive quickly but there were few other customers (on a sunny saturday lunchtime)

Viernes noche de curry de noche era absolutamente terrible. Had booked a table for lunch on New years day with the dog and my husband and daughter. Booking was taken successfully on the phone a few days earlier. Turned up at the pub after our walk, starving and ready for lunch, to be told that the pub was closed for an event until 6pm. No apologies for scrapping our booking or any attempt to phone us to say the pub was closed after all, just that the booking should not have been taken! would not try this one again!

Great food and friendly service, well done Roger for looking after us so well. The homemade steak pie and vegetables were really excellent.

My husband and I had been traveling the UK for 4 months. On our final days we came upon the BEST Pub! Friendly service brought us the best beef bourguignon and fish & chips, followed by the decadent "sticky toffee pudding". The atmosphere was clean, warm and cozy. The WIFI was a very pleasant surprise. Wish we were there right now! YUMMMM!

We were staying at Woodgate Farm B&B and, as it was a lovely evening, walked to the local pub - The Lord Nelson - for a meal. We both chose one of the specials - salmon and asparagus pie - which was really delicious. The landlord(?) who took our order was friendly and helpful. This is a really first class genuine village pub. I was caught short by the closure of another pub to use as lunch time stop for a pretty discerning walking group and visited the pub to look it over and have half a pint. The impression was ok so I booked the group of 13 for two days later. A good decision because the landlord, totally on the ball, looked after us perfectly. Well presented fresh food, very relaxed but efficient welcome and decent beer. Only reservation would be that the beer could have been colder - it was a very hot day- and there wasn't anything weaker than 4.8%. Am taking a second group there in a week's time.(Having to say whether it is one of the best meals ever is a bit daft but it was one of the best everyday pub lunches that I have had)

We were advised to call in this pub for a meal whilst staying nearby, exploring the many sites of archaeological interest in the Salisbury area. There are two pubs in Winterslow - this is the one at the top of the hill near the thriving village shop / post office. There is nothing fancy about this pub - it is fairly plain outside and the inside is comfortably but plainly furnished. Despite having never been here before, we were immediately made to feel very welcome by the staff and the locals and the samples of beer offered helped in the choice of the excellent local but unfamiliar brews. For those who think that life isn't difficult enough already, quirky puzzles were provided on the tables! Meals are served in the bar area and the menu is a bit more ambitious than your average pub food. The quality of the food, and the way it was cooked, was certainly better - we had a couple of very good meals at a reasonable price. The proprietor was interested enough to come and have a chat with us and seemed genuinely concerned that we should have enjoyed our meals (which, as I have said, we certainly did). We would have liked to eat here on the Sunday night as well but, beware, the pub is only open on Sunday lunchtime. We would certainly eat (and drink) here again. It is not a posh restaurant, but I have had worse food and paid more in a number of so-called restaurants. Recommended.
