A lunch stop after getting off the train (the station is nearby). The Lord John is more traditionally pub-like than most 'spoons, which is odd as it's a former Post Office. Lunch was a Small American Breakfast which was a sausage and pancakes and a fried egg - a strange combination - this is a recurring theme recently. The pub has a narrow frontage but goes back a long way to a glass-ceilinged back room. It's a Wetherspoons. Peculiar menu items and cheap beer (not tried).

Wetherspoons on a Sunday afternoon is a family hot spot, cheap food, cheap drinks, bit of sport on the TV. What you don’t need is a group of miserable old men moaning about the noise of happy children, 3 and 9 months, to the extent that they feel they can parent them for me. Telling my son to be quiet. They weren’t crying, they were causing no harm. If you want a quiet pint then pay double in then cocktail bar up the road. They didn’t even eat, just miserable old men taking up a table with their £1.79 pint. When confronted they soon shut up and left. Clearly not family folk. Expected more from a family public house.

Nice pub and great lady serving. Sunday February 11th. The male customers seem a bit dated in their attitudes. The big let down was the cleaner, who obviously was doing his job well, but the covert misogyny was not welcome. Firstly saying how much more important football was than his wife. If a wife spoke like that we'd be metaphorically burnt and the stake and called selfish lesbians. Then, he went on about how he didn't agree with female footballers as it's not our place and because of our hormones. Question, what about male hormones and their cycles that factually causes more harm. Loud conversations about football prove nothing, the real game matters. I don't see rugby enthusiasts having to act up like this.

Disappointed seeing as it is a Wetherspoon pub. Dirty inside and the upholstery on some of the chairs is in need of replacing. Carpet by the door to the patio was missing and could be a trip hazard ? Sat outside but unfortunately peace was shattered by who I presume were locals sat at table behind, being loud and ‘common’. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no snob but sometimes you just want a quiet drink.

? Cheese & Ham panini but cheese was missing, was offered the same Panini but after the last one decided not to take this offer up but would have excepted to be offered something different if this was a option, maybe I should have asked for something different? Weatherspoons is weatherspoons you usually get the same quality in all of them so you no what you’re going to get. Weatherspoons still great value for food and drink (if the food you ordered comes out as expected)

Really not a nice spot, of course I didn’t expect a red carpet being a Wetherspoons, just cheap and cheerful. It’s cheap but not cheerful, pretty rowdy (and suspiciously young) crowd, and my partner voiced his concerns to the manager (apparently she was) and she didn’t seem to care at all.

After getting off the train and a short walk to the Lord John ,we decided to have a traditional English breakfast each. Whilst waiting, we noted that there was a lot of possible regulars drinking, and it was only 9:15 am 😀. The inside is probably the worst Wetherspoons we have been in ,dirty old furniture, drab decor, dirty worn carpet, the only best thing were the toilets are very clean . Breakfast was OK for the price although it arrived late and not very hot.

We usually stop off at a Wetherspoons for breakfast after an early start on the way home from Devon. This one was so disappointing. After 20 minutes our coffee cups and food still had not arrived. Went to ask and was told there were no clean cups. After a while I went again and there was a basket of them on the bar so I helped myself. Some minutes later our food arrived and it was only the fact that this was the usual good standard that prevented me from giving a lower rating. Finished our meals and the coffee cups we ordered had still not arrived. Unlikely we will call here again

This place is ok for a quick drink but wouldn't want to have a meal here. The tables hasn't been wiped down, rubbish all over the floor and staff walking about not bothering to clean around. Sitting here now, it's a Sunday early evening and I'm enjoying my Large Mixed Grill and pint of diet Coke for £12.50, surrounded by information on local historical figures (Laurie Lee, The Lord John himself and many others). Very civilised. It's a very different place on Friday night after 10pm. Lively atmosphere, very busy, very loud, very Stroud. Rich, poor, old, young, teachers, students, neighbours, visitors, all enjoying one big party. It's quite an experience! It's certainly not the Ritz (and it's best not to look too closely at the furniture) but it is greater than the sum of it's parts.

Upon arrival, 5 of us sat at a booth. Not spotting a poorly placed sign, we moved a chair over to make room. A member of staff, young male with glasses, rudely informed us that we couldn't move the furniture, and more than 4 was not allowed at one table (which wasn't signposted). We moved elsewhere and split up across two tables. Said member of staff then delivered our drinks without a word to anyone. When complaining about the lack of welcome and rude service, he ignored us and walked away. Possibly the unfriendliest pub I've ever been to and we won't make the mistake of returning.

I'm retired. Spend my summers in the UK on my narrowboat Mister Pip, and winters in Canada. Born in Cheltenham and lived in Stroud to age 9. Then moved to Canada, and after university, travelled the world. But I still love coming back to Stroud. And the Lord John and other Wetherspoons are the pubs I look for whenever I hit a new town or city. The large breakfast with the all-day coffee is a super bargain. I've gone to about 50 of the Wetherspoons around the UK, and the breakfast is always consistent and of high quality. I'd recommend Wetherspoons to anybody who wants a great breakfast for a great price. I used to always order the Sunday Dinner (chicken, pork, or steak) but those unfortunately got discontinued several years ago. I do wish they could be brought back, and have written to CEO Tim Martin in that regard!!

I had even suggested we sit at the bar to drink the alcoholic ones and the girl wihout ID could then prove she didnt need it because they would see she wasnt drinking alcohol. however this was met with scorn and we were kicked our, despite having been nothing but polite and there being families with children still in the pub as it was before 18s only.

While visiting Stroud for the annual fringe festival each August bank holiday, we decided that a quick and easy bite to eat in the local Weatherspoon's would keep us going, and we were not disappointed with the food. We each picked something we had had had before, I had the chicken wrap, it says cold on the menu, but actually came out warm, which probably makes it taste nicer, as the chicken is still soft. The wife had the chicken skewers with rice, which was very tasty, and very filling. We both enjoyed our meals, and it will be interesting to visit another Wetherspoon's just to make the comparison against this one. I was a little disappointed with the lack of local real ales, not much of a choice, and as the Fringe Festival was on, with an increase in trade, it would seem ideal opportunity to have some local ales available.

This Wetherspoons is located fairly centrally and blends in with the other shops in the street well. Inside it is L-shaped and has a red interior and an unusual but effective glass roof which allows light to flood in to the central area. There are some interesting photos and prints adorning the walls and a rather loud painting high up- on a wall. In all it is a louder interior than one usually finds in this chain. The folk inside can diplomatically be called "characters", although perhaps others would entitle them as odd/quirky. As for the meal, well, the all-day breakfast was as expected, well-cooked, quickly served. Worth a visit, although it is a fair bit different to other Wetherspoons pubs.

Of all the Weatherspoons pubs this is probably the least solubricious but having said that it is good value for money and the prices of their beers is very competitive and the ales always seem to be fresh. In comparison to most pubs the Lord Lord as with many Weatherspoon pubs has a wide selection of ales. The food at the Lord John is very reasonably priced and the size of the meals is good. I don't usually review Wetherspoons pubs as they are generally much of a muchness. I make an exception here because of the excellence of the bar staff. Staying round the corner at the Imperial Hotel, I ate and drank here on the three days of my stay in Stroud. Instead of the usual lazy 'who's next?', the bar staff on duty made it their business to know who was next, and served them quickly too. I am old enough to remember when this was once standard practice, but I'd thought it was a lost art. Well done and keep it up!

Worst bar staff I've seen anywhere, will serve whoever is close to them not the next person, waited 15 minutes to get served then left, such a shame for a pub to have staff who all need better training.

What an absolute hell hole, service was atrocious, ordered 2 starters and they arrived alongside our mains, to which they were threw on the table, food was awful, chips were dry and onion rings had been fried for allot longer than they should of been, although cheap it's not worth it, avoid by all costs!!

Very friendly bar and waiting staff. Unfortunately the food let us down.My chicken in chicken & rib combo was half cold , felt like it had been defrosted and then warmed up in a microwave. 3 of us had chips and these appeared as though they had been refried . Only thing that made it pleasant was the nice lady serving.

One of the less inspired Wetherspoons and can feel a bit rough at times but one we use occasionally for breakfast and is normally fine. Popped in for a coffee on Sunday afternoon only to be told by rather surly young woman behind bar that 'we don't do decaf anymore'. Oh dear :-( I'm sure she meant 'we've run out' but her apparent attitude seemed to suggest 'I can't be bothered'.

My friends and I came here for lunch. I wasn't expecting anything special, but everyone enjoyed their food and I found mine to be particularly tasty. This was all the more impressive given that I had a vegetarian option, which pubs often neglect.

We decided we needed a lunch out as a treat, and settled on the Lord John, which we'd not tried before. The pub is one of the J D Wetherspoons chain, so the menu is presumably the same as others, but in any case the food was well cooked, good value and tasty.

Run-of-the-mill Wetherspoon pub, good value for both drinks and food. However, it does appear to attract single local men of a certain age whose main pleasure in life seems to be cursing, and staring at 'strangers' as they walk past them. Toilets down a flight of stairs - OK if you're fit.

A nice smaller Wetherspoons. Friendly and efficient service. Meals arrived quickly and together despite three seperate orders. My chicken wrap was delicious and no problem asking for the unspicy mayo. Nice chips too.

For a chain as familiar to everyone as Weatherspoon's, one needs not detail the menu, drinks choices, or anything like that. The Lord John is a typical Weatherspoon's, the staff are friendly, and the clientele are generally not as rowdy as they would be in branches in larger towns.

Typical Wetherspoon offer in terms of pricing but leaves you feeling a little dirty to be honest. Not at all pleasant and very grubby generally.

We were driving through the Cotswolds, parked at Stroud (never been before) to find breakfast... streets looked deserted early Sunday morning - until I smelled bacon then spotted Wetherspoons!Warm welcome, traditional breakfast for two with as much filter coffee as we could drink, all for £8.70. Will definitely use again if in the area...

This pub is a must if you are in Stroud. It offers great food in terms of variety and quality! It's also cheap! We ate there twice in two days and both times food came out in less than 10 minutes from the time we ordered!

I called into this fine establishment on the 14/04/16 and order the buttermilk chicken and a pint of Pepsi with lots of lemons. 3 lemons to be exact, I downed this Pepsi very quickly because I was really thirsty because i had to run from camp Hudson to the base of operations in under 10 mins to proceed in my army training.. Anyways back to the pub, I ordered the chicken because I fancied something chickeny. The staff was very pleasant and the manager on shift was very swaggy with her dolla dolla chains. My food came out in 6 mins and 37 seconds and I ate in 5 mins and 17 seconds, I then went to the bar and ordered a choccy choccy fudge cake with Custard. This was very nice. I wanted another one but I had to say no because I knew it would be too cheeky for my liking. Will be back in soon for sure :) Kind regards Trevor

Four of us went to this Restaurant before going to the theatre. We arrived at The Lord John at around 6.30 pm.We selected our order for food, went to the bar to be told that there was no steak left. Back to the drawing board. We then selected fish and chips, only to be told there was no more fish.Another selection, we are down to ham egg and chips now, great they had it. My husband wanted the Lamb Curry (as it was curry night), but guess what they had run out of it.This is very poor for a Restaurant as it was only 6.30pm.Service was reasonable and the Manager seemed very nice.Come on Weatherspoons get your act together

Nice Spoons that starts off small and just gets bigger and bigger. A widescreen TV at the front showing football allows a quieter restaurant at the rear, which is where we sat. Had the Steak & Onion baguette each and the kitchen was very accommodating around requests with sauces, salads etc. More than happy to eat there again.

We sadly had to arrange a wake over Christmas so it was hard to find a venue and the Pilot Inn were one of the few to reply to our enquiry. How lucky for us they did. Communication was great, the buffet was excellent with plenty of choice, the pub has a lovely atmosphere and we had a spacious, comfortable area for our specific use. Staff were helpful but not intrusive in any way and everything was straight forward and easy. We couldn't have asked for more.

Had booked a table for 6 people for Saturday 4th March. Had confirmation email when booked as I queried the nenue option for gluten free items. We arrived just before the time our table was booked for only to find the place in darkness. It was closed. When I rang the number the call was immediately cut off. We had to go to sainsbury's for a curry. Not impressed and so disappointed. If this place ever opens again, avoid it.
