Located in the quiet village centre, just a minute’s drive (or 5 minute walk) off the main drag between Yelverton and Tavistock. Car park at rear, accessible before crossing the bridge next to the pub. Entrances at rear and front. Typical looking old-world village pub with outdoor seating and a few larger tables inside, so ideal for walkers, cyclists etc. First visit (pub in Yelverton gridlocked with cars so here we were). Staff kindly let us in early (chilly and wet weather) to keep warm but we strolled around the attractive village anyway. Sidenote: The other pub was shut, there’s a Spar and a chippy and the river looked splendid after the heavy rain. Community Christmas trees added some cheer. Back to the pub out of the rain: Quiet inside, no music, a few other customers, lower level area closed. Bit tired in the furnishings dept but historic building nonetheless. Toilets so-so. Friendly staff offered a tasting of the cider AND a bonus of the last glassful from the box (it was a Lilley’s still, 6.0% - v good) Beer offer was usual DoomJail so picked the still cider. I could imagine this as a proper beer-led establishment at some point. Probably not the footfall or demographic though. It’s the food that truly shone. Simple, non-pretentious and delicious. Sausage (meaty), mash (buttery), peas (loads) and a proper boat of hot gravy. Mate’s burger, chips and onion rings also well received and everything was cleared. Good portions all served hot and with a friendly smile. I’d be happy to have this as a local. Bravo. We’ll be back!

Good, varied menu, portions are on the large size and food is good old fashioned home cooked pub grub. The lamb shank was full of meat and fell off the bone. Also had the petit sole fillets in tempura batter, very nice. Nice beers (apart from Doombar, but that's a metter of choice). Avocet is a nice organic real ale. So they said it would be fine but an ex £1 to do so!?! My issue with this was on the menu it said and extra £0.75 for cheese! So I pointed this out and in response the none smiling lady said.... oh no it’s £1 and is what it is! Very rude and I will not be taking any further clients here.

She was friendly attentive and chatty with genuine engagement about thing which we coming up in the pub and you could tell she loved and enjoyed of her job. The food well.....WOW. I had a lamb shank which’s was very tender my partner and friend said how much they enjoyed it and even said it was best burger either had had in a very long time. The great thing about Trip Advisor is that it provides a platform for people to express their experiences in a strictly subjective fashion. So, although we visited this pub/eatery, we neither had a drink nor a meal. And here follows the reason why. We went in on a cold miserable day with the intention of having lunch. Inside proved worse than outside as not only was then interior cold and miserable but the welcome was as well. This gave a whole new meaning to the word, dank. We quote the greeting verbatim. Hi, we don't have any lamb or mussels. Silence. In one corner a staff member was sitting at a table dealing with a rep. She summonsed a man who could easily have been the owner who, without a greeting or a smile, walked past us and proceeded to discuss something with the rep. My wife gave me that,' not eating here' look and out we went to search for better. Now, possibly this is a fabulous eatery that serves excellent ales but alas we never found out simply because our experience was unpleasant. My final comment is simply common sense. You would have to be blind, stupid or a combination of both, not to know that the pub trade is falling apart and crumbling at the seams. On every corner and at every turn you can see the ghostly, boarded up remains of a once thriving pub. So how come a landlord allows his pub to be cold and unwelcoming? Beats me. Give it a try for yourself , we may be just unlucky.

A very friendly drinking Inn, where the locals seem all seemed to be famous? First of all there was a Liverpudlian chap who had round belly and grey tash. Then there was a large happy chap that talked about football a lot. He didn’t sound like he was from Holland but answered to the name Dutch, and a guy with a guitar with one leg. He had a strange band called Frank and the winketts or something like that?

One of two pubs in the village, the other is closed on Mondays so after walking the Drakes Trial, the London it was then for a spot of lunch. Menu limited to ciabattas with various fillings and comes with salad and crisps. Quite a pleasant surprise. The pub itself is quite dark inside but as it was a nice sunny day and warm on our visit we sat on the terrace out the back. It also has a “garden” area beyond that. I’m not sure there is the custom for two pubs in the village, the evenings and the food on offer at each is probably key, bar another couple who only stopped for a drink, we were the only ones there!

The London Inn was a favourite a few years back and I was excited to return. A good attribute to any pub is the atmosphere and character of the local people but we were made to feel really unwelcome by three locals. After looking up to find they were literally staring at us in quite an agressive way we decided to go into the corner of the pub to get away from the negative vibe - and we left soon after. Other members of my family have said similar things which is a shame because everything else about the pub is good.

I’m here once a month or so, usually to eat, sometimes for big family parties. It’s a locals pub that does decent pub food, usually has good beer (sometimes local real ale, well kept cellar). It’s not a wine bar - so the wine list is pretty limited, and it’s not a restaurant so don’t expect full restaurant service and fine dining, but the servings are generous, food hot, and they’ll try and get you what you want, sometimes after a little wait. Some of the locals are “characters” and will be served before strangers, and they might be loud, and they’re at home, you’re not. But that said said, if you need help then they’ll be good as gold. They did a really good family meal for 14 for us over Xmas, relaxed, good value, good food. Slightly chaotic menu/email/do we pre-order but I’d definitely do it again

Had lunch at the London Inn last Saturday. I had the steak and my hubby had the beef and ale pie. His words, "best pie he's ever had!" Really good sized portions and very pleasant staff. Looking forward to a return visit.

Stayed in Yelverton for 4 nights and decided to try a few locals offering food. We found The London Inn on our travels so decided to try the food. The food was lovely but please be aware the portions are not for the faint hearted . They know how to feed a person in their pub. Cottage pie was lovely. It came on an enormous plate accompanied by vegetables and a portion of chips. I managed the pie and veg but no way could I manage the chips. My wife ordered the ribs and fries. That would have done for both of us . Huge plate of fries and half a babrbequed cow on top . The staff are also second to none from the young lady who took our order ( think that was Sarah) to the young man who brought our food out. Well done to all. Will definitely be going back when we are down your way again x

A very friendly place to eat and to have a quiet drink. They stock a nice selection of Ale ,Cider and Larger.A nice wine list will complement your meal. I found the bar staff efficient and Friendly. The food was served piping hot and a good portion. The first time I ate I had the Fish and Chips, and I have to say ,(hand on heart.)it was the best I have had for a very long time. This venue must be very high on my recommenced list.I will be making the effort to go back today (Sunday ) for lunch.

A little gem of a spot right in the heart of the park. we popped in with family after taking a hike to check out the scenery. I told my son, who frequently uses the parks for hiking, that I would make
