Last Monday l was there and they have only 1 option of cake to offer, we decided to stay and had a coffee which was complementarity but the cake was awful. The guy who served me was very friendly though. Today early in the morning l met a big group of mum's and kids thinking we could have a hot or cook breakfast, but unfortunately they didn't offer any, just 3 option of cakes. I was very disappointed as it is a beautiful place, but sadly no many choices.

After spending the afternoon in the park with my Husband, two young children and niece we decided to go for a coffee and snack. We seen this place which looked lovely, so we left the pushchairs outside and went in. We decided to take the children to use the toilet to avoid the usual “I need the toilet” as soon as you sit down and take a sip of coffee. So I took the girls whilst my husband waited with our son. We then came outside to find a table whilst my husband was still inside with our son. Before we could even find a table I was told by a member of staff that in future the public toilets are further round the park!!! I was absolutely got smacked and apologised, before I could even say we were actually going to get a drink and snack she went back inside. My husband and son came out and after my husband told me that a member of staff inside was complaining about people using the toilet we decided not to stay and leave!!! Never in all my life have I been made to feel so un welcome and uncomfortable! Sad to say we left and won’t be returning!

Popped in here for coffee whilst on a cycle ride. Went in and there wasn’t a big queue.... 20 mins later I got served!! There was two young lads working and bless them they were trying their best but suffice to say they hadn’t been given any training. It seemed to take an age getting simple orders through. Anyway got the two coffees/hot water 😐finally I then had to queue back up again to tell them the coffee didn’t even taste like coffee it was that weak. Anyway they popped another shot in them and gotta say they didn’t taste great at all.

I have eaten here a few times before and have always enjoyed it, but I visited yesterday and found quality of food and service had sadly declined. I wonder if the café has changed hands. A kids lunch box is £4.25 and contains only one square of sandwich i.e. a quarter of a round. My 3 and 5 year old would normally eat 3-4 squares in one sitting. The remainder of the lunch box was a pick and mix affair. The fruit selection consisted of green bananas and some large oranges that would have needed to be cut up with a sharp knife. There was none of the advertised cheese sticks apparent, I did ask, and was advised that none were available and was told to choose cake, cookies or fruit instead. I explained that my son can't have cakes or cookies due to an allergy but the attitude I got was tough luck. I asked if there was any other fruit available and again was told no. It wouldn't have taken much trouble to cut up a bit of cheese for my son's lunch box. My friend chose a bacon sandwich, advertised on the board above the café counter as coming with vine tomatoes and salad. Instead she was presented with a few rashers of bacon on bread. When she queried why it did not match the description on the board she was told by the girl 'oh, we need to change all that' as she gestured to the boards above her head describing the different sandwiches. Basically the prices of the sandwiches stated on the boards are still being charged but the actual product you get is far more basic. The girl subsequently offered to put some salad on the sandwich for my friend. I got an egg mayo sandwich for £4.90ish that was literally just egg mayo on 2 slices of bread. As we were paying another customer was asking for a refund for a latte that hadn't appeared. Disappointing, will avoid in future.

came to Chester with my family and a couple of friends to enjoy doing the tourist thing, I had been here before in 2013, we were passing from the city to the river, decided to stop here so the kids could have a go on the steam train, bought sandwiches and drinks, not the quality of sandwiches that I remember from the last time I went there. Hopefully someone from this cafe is monitoring these and maybe pride and ownership

We got an english breakfast and a green tea and an earl grey tea! The food was tasty, staff were friendly. Only bad point was the wasps but everything else was excellent :D would come back and recommend

We happened upon this cafe and popped in for snacks which turned out to be cakes and bagels. Service was pleasant though not the most efficient you ever experienced. Cakes were not very fresh though nice flavours. A good selection of teas. Would visit again if in the area.

We went to the Lodge Café this lunch time. We had such a friendly welcoming that made us feel special. We ordered baked potatoes, which were delivered by lovely, friendly staff, who made a fuss of our great niece. As well as looking really appetising, the jacket potatoes tasted amazing, really fluffy. The staff brought our great niece a little bowl of ice cream – any little girls dream!Overall this café is well, well worth a visit. Welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing home cooked food.

We popped into this cafe after walking around the whole of Chester for the day and it had started raining so we decided on having a coffee. The entire building is a bit topsy turvy to be honest, you walk through a conservatory and into a kitchen which is also the till, this leads onto "drawing rooms" and "dining rooms" filled with staff being run off their feet by a lady with short dark hair who found it appropriate to shout at my partner for trying to find a seat. Upon ordering the drinks I asked if they had a minimum spend on card, as a lot of places do, the lady mentioned above was again very rude and responded "You what?" I explained again, asking the question and she tutted, rolled her eyes and said no. Then turned to the young girls being rushed off their feet and pretty much ordered them to do a better job. Again whilst paying for the drinks she stood next to my partner whilst he entered his pin, nice. Upon trying to find a seat in a packed little cafe full of staff flying everywhere we shuffled along a tiny, and pretty dirty corridor and found a room with another couple inside, this room was packed with documents and other tit tat that you would keep behind closed doors when running a business. Once we had sat down and started drinking we decided to leave pretty quickly, who wants to enjoy a coffee with staff knocking past you every few seconds? Upon leaving we decided to be a bit more helpful and take our empty cups to the till/counter rather than leave them for the young girls to pick up, we said our thankyous and left and AGAIN the dark, short haired woman decided to tut and roll her eyes at us once more. Drinks were okay, service was abysmal. Avoid this cafe, take a nice homemade sandwich from home with a bottle of water and have a picnic outdoors, save yourself the hassle of entering this building!

Attempted to buy children's lunch box. Two sandwich varieties present-tiny sandwiches. One variety not present, and staff not prepared to make it. Other items not as stated: fruit pot =jelly, no plain crisps. Hard to get attention at counter in chaotic kitchen (ignored by five people). Then unhelpful 'if it is not there you can't have it can you' attitude when someone did pay attention. Would advise bringing sandwiches from elsewhere and eating in lovely park.

We visited this cafe, set in a beautiful location yesterday with friends. We wanted jacket potatoes only to be advised (at noon) there weren't any left. Two of the party ordered smoked salmon then that had run out as well. We ended up with a combination of sandwiches and bagels. There were lots of staff who were all nice but it just seemed to be a little chaotic and for a simple order we waited too long. When the food arrived the second order, 4 sandwiches, arrived before the first, 2 sandwiches and 2 bagels. After we decided to treat ourselves so we went to the ice cream window but all the ice cream was in the sun so had melted! This is despite it being in a refridgerated cabinet. This cafe is in a beautiful setting and could be really lovely but I'm afraid our experience was disappointing.

This is a great cafe in a great part of Chester with friendly staff selling decent quality food. The best thing about it though is that it's a not for profit social enterprise so the money you hand over at the till is used to benefit the local community and not snaffled off to some tax dodging parent company in Luxembourg.

I am a Chester resident and thought that I would try the Lodge in the hope of finding another place for a drink on our frequent walks around the city. The building looks lovely and has a great position in the park. Unfortunately the teapots were so over filled with hot water that there was no chance of getting a decent cuppa. The cakes were served on slates or huge square plates and decorated with fruit coulees, but were dry and inedible. The cafe needs to concentrate on getting the basics right, decent drinks and fresh, simply presented cakes; until then I won't be back.

Decided to stop off for a cup of tea and latte during our walk around Chester and this looked lovely. Popped my head in to ask if I could sit outside with my dogs to find that not only could we do that, we could also sit in two of the rooms with them.Decided to sit outside as was a lovely day and when our drinks were brought another waitress brough a bowl of water for e dogs and some dog biscuits on a little plate. The drinks were really good, service perfect and doggy friendliness second to none.Thansk

The Woodland is close to Ellemere Port Hospital and serves for much of the day. Usual "Stonehouse" fayre. Very pleasant member of staff who checked for allergies and carried our drinks to our table as I am dodgy on my feet. We took advantage of the offer of two meals for £11.75 from a reduced menu. Pleasant food, but nothing special, except the price.

Birthday treat for afternoon tea. Put us in a room on our own so I asked to be moved to sit with everyone else dining...which they did. Sandwiches brought out on saucer sized plate then another plate with cakes and scones. I asked why not served on 3 tier cake stand as she gave some poor excuse as to cakes might melt so they don't use them hower other diners had them! They forgot to bring the strawberries and cream and champagne we ordered. Waitress was moody and unhelpful and we had to go into bar for a cocktail as they were now shutting!! Huge amount of money for poor food and service. Never been back!
