The Little Wine Shop & Social Wine Bar in Taunton Deane

We went for tapas but were seduced by the main menu and weren’t disappointed. The game terrine with apricot chutney was perfectly balanced. The beef bourginon marinated in red wine for three days was perfect. My husband thought the haddock fish cakes were excellent and he loved the Mediterranean cod with samphire (advertised as wilted greens!) was to die for. We both enjoyed our desserts and our decaf coffees with a great selection of whiskeys and liqueurs. We have loved this restaurant since it opened and it goes from strength to strength. We are now looking forward to the new tapas menu which will include some Japanese influences.

Popped in on off chance for some food, excellent service and food is lovely definitely recommend..great find.

We went here with friends last night after reading the reviews and had a very lovely evening. The food, wine, atmosphere and service was all brilliant, very please we found this place!

The choice of wines is amazing, the staff are always so friendly, attentive and knowledgeable! The food is INCREDIBLE, the mushroom croquettes and cheeses are some of the best I've ever tasted. We even had a cocktail last night and it was delicious and all very reasonably priced for what you get! We came to a private party here last night and the staff couldn't do enough for us all and our hosts. It was a great atmosphere and the food was just wonderful! Thank you so much, and see you soon!

We went for a wine tasting experience it was brilliant from start to finish. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff who explained all about the different wines we tried and the food that went with the wine. We would definitely recommend

A gem in Taunton! * Sorry to remove one star, but the food is below average and overly expensive for what it is... frozen microwaved dinner. I will keep visiting for the wine though.

Got the sharer platter and would not recommend. Very carb heavy. No sauce for the cauliflower wings BUT the ham and cheese croquettes were to die for. But with the fishcakes it was like battered everything with extra carbs. Slip some potatas bravos in and some sweet chorizo in red wine and next time I’d be more than happy to pay for the over priced wine.

This is such a lovely venue in Taunton, it helps to be walking distance from work and home! Great selection of wine - and knowledgeable advice from experts, all staff are friendly and efficient. The tapas is excellent as is the atmosphere. Will be back soon….

Amazing experience with lovely people

What's not to like about the Little Wine Shop, Social Wine Bar and Tapas. Our recent trip was alcohol free but still worth a visit for the tremendous tapas and cheese selection. Had many a visit wih delicious wines but still loved the ambience and friendly customer service without the wine! Thank you.

Only stopped off for drinks, but what a fab time, shout out to Charlie, great staff member, chatting to us and making sure anyone coming in was served just as well... Would highly recommend 😁 ... I don't know why it saved with only one star! I choose 5.. hopefully I have updated it now!

I wouldn't say traditional tapas the meals here were larger and more expensive so the menu was more limited. That being said everything was excellent

Dropped in for a quick lunch and was shocked at cost of Tapas and wine. 3strips of chicken breast with a dip for £12.95 Chirizo (maybe 1 sausage sliced)£9 glass 175ml of medoc £15 good medoc which I buy by the bottle for approx £20. Certainly will not be returning next time I am in Taunton. Could not be convinced it was value for money.

Wow what a find, we're not from the area but so lucky we came across this place. Accommodated us although we didn't have a booking. Super friendly male server, who recommended some dishes to us. We opted for the chimichuri steak, croquetas, calamari and bao buns, all dishes were amazing. Fab french glass of cold white and good beer selection made for a perfect night. Thank you

We went as a group of friends for wine tasting and tapas. Philippe hosted us at the table and shared his impressive sommelier knowledge of the wine he had chosen for us. It was a really nice evening and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something different. Only thing I would say is, if you are feeling very hungry it's probably worth eating a small meal before as it wasn't enough to fill me up. I'd definitely go back and try a meal from the actual menu.

Best cheese and charcuterie in town! Best wine selection as well ! Service is top of the top, friendly but mannered and professional. Terrace is so welcomed for the British summer times and inside is also cozy for the chilly night. Definitely coming back - favorite new place to eat in Taunton and by far !

Best place I have eaten in Taunton. The food was exceptional, we tried the tapas and the quality was very high. There are so many delicious options we will be back very soon! The waiter was also great, really friendly and knowledgeable and helped recommend tapas dishes.

Lunch with my son and daughter in law on Mother's Day. All staff we met were cheerful friendly and attentive. I've not had tapas before and was not disappointed. We had a selection of dishes and it was all full of flavour. All well presented and hot. The desserts looked and tasted great. Thank you for making my tapas first time such a good one. My children have been before and I'll be back as there are so many new things for me to taste! Imagine first calamari at the age of 70! Sheltered life😊

Can't fault the food, apart from the price. But Philippe, the owner, came over as being totally uninterested to the point of being rude. Having lived in France for 48 years we have seldom met a frenchman so arrogant and unfriendly.

We went for a work night out, we did wine tasting with tapas and would highly recommend and have already told my friends. It was good range of wines, great food, overall great evening.

We have made a reservation for two through the phone which was answered quite fast, when we arrived we were very well welcomed and all the staff were very polite and kept our coats on as soon as we walked in. Initially we were seated on a corner and it was quite a small table so we were in uncomfortable but requested to move to a different table and the waitress kindly helped us move without any hesitation, the tables are extremely small specially if you order tapas which are served in different plates and we were left out of space with the drinks and the food which was a bit unpleasant. The temperature it was quite cold inside and my partner ended up having to request his coat because he was uncomfortable, the atmosphere it was good but we were expecting much more as being a wine shop we thought it would be more cosy and as well the music could be improved with something like jazz that would definitely go much better than comercial music. They have an extensive menu and you can either choose a la carte or the tapas, they also have plenty of wines but we were a bit disappointed that there were no Spanish red wines at all but a lot of to choose from, we have ordered a French red wine which was divine. I was extremely disappointed with the tapas we ordered five tapas and even that I know tapas are small plates, the portions were too small and we ended up hungry without time to order more. The calamari were full of taste but the texture it wasn’t great as they were not crunchy, the supposedly Ali oil it was normal mayo and didn’t had any taste of garlic at all, the bravas were good but the sauce it was just a bit on top and none below, the house bread it was excellent we had the sourdough and came with olive oil and balsamic we have also had the meatballs which it was disappointing as well because of the meat flavour and they were also dry when they should be succulent as we were expecting, we had also croquets and requested them to be two of each so we had two of mushroom and other two of ham and cheese, the croquettes of mushrooms were nothing special but the ham and cheese ones were simply delicious it was what we enjoyed the most they were full of flavour and very creamy and full of texture from the ham, we also had the pintxos which were made with goats cheese and caramelised onions that were also divine and full of flavour. We had to add salt and pepper to all food to improve the taste, and we were left hungry and disappointed and unfortunately very unsatisfied as we were expecting more than we had, the prices are average and the service it was great, all the waiters were extremely attentive and friendly.

First time here been meaning to go for a while booked a table for a double birthday. Staff were lovely. The food was delicious! Ordered the tapas sharer for 4 it came on 2 identical boards there was enough food per person for a small lunch. The quality and presentation of the tapas was great! We also ordered the cheese fondue (must preorder) it was so yummy very rich! You got a lot of bread and salad with it we'd happily trade some of the bread and salad for something to cut through the richness of the delicious cheese fondue like pickles maybe? Great selection of wines to choose from with your food. No faults at all with the atmosphere food or staff thank you. There's also a small deli counter selling cheeses and cures meats as well and a very good selection of wines and premium spirits also Best of all it's dog friendly!

We had the Christmas menu last night. I had 2 courses for £30. I thought the food I had was really lovely and well presented....however I contemplated the 3 course for £38 as I really wanted the goats cheese starter but I'm so glad I didnt. Others on our table did have this starter and they were disappointed... I really struggled to see the four slices of beetroot and the thumb sized amount of goats cheese in amongst the small handful of Rocket salad. To the owner.... I know the cost of living has gone up and you have your over heads, but your customers have to watch their pennies too. If you continue to make the portions this tiny for the money you are charging you won't have customers. Please don't let this be another Taunton restaurant with so much potential go down the swanny. It would be a real shame.

Fantastic relaxed venue in the heart of Taunton, beautifully located next to the river. Great staff, consistently excellent food and the wines are just out of this world. We’ve recently attended three of their wine tasting nights and they are not to be missed! We are truly lucky to have this gem in Taunton - we also highly recommend stopping in and buying some cheese to go with all the delicious wine to take home!

We have visited and eaten here on several occasions but we tried the food and wine pairing evening this time. What a great evening. Excellent food, great wine and fab service. Previously we have tried the spring menu and the tapas. Each time the food and wine has been delicious.

Last minute booking for tapas on a Saturday night , lovely selection of food and wine, service was speedy and attentive. Can’t fault the night really! Highly recommend, but do make sure to try to book as weekends seem to fill up quickly

Beautiful food, lovely setting and on a warm, summer evening, with the sun setting, the atmosphere would be perfect. The food was second to none, and the salami with the charcuterie melted in your mouth. And the lemon sillabub was out of this world. Really friendly staff, jazzy shirts to boot and the owner is a top fella. Highly recommend, even if it is a bit pricey, but worth it for a special treat. Price of meal for 2, including 3 ipa’s and a bottle of wine was under £100, so can’t complain.

Manager was very helpful and provided a sour dough brunch with marvellous scrambled eggs with ham . Absolutely excellent food and very reasonably priced

You know you’re in for a special experience when your hosts greet you as long lost friends. We were ridiculously early due to the weather but were shown to our table immediately and walked through the options for dining. We both opted for the tapas and honestly, what an excellent decision. To begin our evening we enjoyed cocktails which were crafted to perfection whilst we perused the menu. We opted for all of the fish selection with the tortilla and mushrooms for the table. Everything was utterly delicious. We could not find fault with a single item. The service was truly impeccable, every member of the team were entirely faultless, showing a level of attentiveness and professionalism that is seldom seen. We both had puddings, with mine being the vegan option, they were again, delicious. I’m rather picky with my wine selection but our sommelier was exceptional in finding us the perfect accompaniment. This small but perfectly formed team are a force to be reckoned with. Chef and his supporting staff deliver sheer perfection with the front of house team creating that wonderful magic that accompanies all great dining experiences. Thank you all so much, it was an absolute delight.

I have no idea why some people are in customer facing roles. The food and wine looks great but we have never managed to try anything...and never will now. On the first occasion walking past on a sunny Sunday saw 3 or 4 tables with people chatting. We walked in, before getting though the door the man who 'appears' to be in charge stated "we're closed" I looked at the tables out side with half bottles of wine on them looked at my watch 3:40 on a Sunday. I looked back at him and said "we're only after a quick beer", he got quite offended with my gesture to give him my money, stared at me and aggressively said "we close at 4" and walked off. I wouldn't normally give that sort of beligerant behaviour a second chance, but again walking past on a lovely Saturday evening thought we would see if we caught them on a bad day. Walked in and there he was... "have you booked" in a, your bothering me Kinda way, I replied "no we're just after a drink and happy to sit at the bar" there were 3 stools available and 4 tables unoccupied. This time without eye contact he walked straight past us into the dining room and loudly and aggressively said "I've got booking coming in, you can wait". No third strike for this place, spend your money where it is appreciated.

How lucky are we in Taunton to have this place. Four of us went for lunch today. Friendly and welcoming greeting, fabulous food, wine was perfect and we all left feeling very happy. The staff were attentive in a relaxed way. Can’t wait to go back for an evening meal or a coffee during the day. Outstanding

We had the tortilla, patatas bravas, croquetas, pig cheeks for mains. Tiramisu and iles fotantes as dessert. Patatas bravas were not amazing and croquetas lack bechamel but spanish tortilla was well made and pig cheeks mixed well with the mash potato. Surprisingly high quality of desserts especially the tiramisu. Highly recommended.

Very nice place and restaurant. We had few tapas like croquetas (very nice crust in the outside and flavour). The patatas bravas were really tasty and also the tortilla very original mixture and flavour. We had also pig cheeks that were tender. The place is really nice also the terrace and has a little corner for all the wines you can imagine. The variety of the menu is high and the staff was friendly and efficient. The desserts we had were a special tiramisu from the place, amazing and the iles flotante that was a very original and interesting dessert. Good place to have nice tapas and wine.

I can't believe we've only just discovered The Little Wine Shop! 6 of us went for lunch last Saturday and it was so good that we returned yesterday for tapas in the evening. On both occasions the food was exceptional including the tastiest, freshest, crispiest and lightest vegetable tempura ever. We've sampled just about every item on the tapas menu and they were all superb - the garlic prawns, ham cheek, ham and cheese croquets, tortilla, patatas bravas; all delicious and clearly freshly cooked. And the puddings are divine - we had the lime and ginger parfait which was beautifully and artfully presented with the most exquisite candied peel and my friend declared the tiramisu to be the best ever :)) The very well priced wine list is eclectic and the staff very knowledgeable, and happy to offer tastings. The ambience is just lovely and all of the staff are welcoming, friendly and attentive striking perfectly the balance between professionalism and good humour. We love it here and will be back many more times, maybe for breakfast next!

I entered the place by chance because the weather was good and I wanted to eat something and I saw the word "tapas", I asked for a table on the terrace and the attention was phenomenal. I had a wine with my partner, and we ordered ham and cheese croquettes and calamari and we loved it. I will definitely go again

Had an amazing dinner here last Saturday. Each dish is high quality and there is a great selection. Tapas portions are good. Service was even better. All the guys that served us knew the food and were super nice and helpful. Drink selection is great as well. Will definitely be going back.

Perfect pairing of cheese with a New Zealand Pinot noir. Followed by a light lunch of bean stew. We will return.

Just had an amazing breakfast. The smashed Avacado on sourdough bread with spinach and mushrooms topped with a perfect poached egg was superb. The smoked salmon was pretty good too and it was a delight to have a proper Buck’s Fizz made with freshly squeezed oranges. It was all so good that we stayed on and had lunch too!

Yes, just yes! What a gem. You definitely need to book unless you're just dropping in for drinks on the off chance. We popped in for a drink, and luckily there was a table free. Lovely helpful knowledgeable staff and owner is good fun and clearly passionate about what is delivered. The menu looked fab and saw lots of mouth-watering food being brought out. Will be booking dinner there for sure!

This is a great little tapas bar/restaurant, located within a wine shop. We regularly eat in tapas bars, and this is definitely one to return to. We received a warm welcome, lots of discussion over the wine and we had 6 dishes between two of us. All excellent. Looking forward to returning soon.

Just held my Mums 60th birthday celebrations here and wanted to thank them for being so great and creating the perfect evening. They catered for 35 of us and the food, service and setting were all amazing. The cocktails went down very nicely (a lot were drank!) and the tapas were amazing! They made the booking process and the event very easy - nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Everyone had the best time! Thank you.

This is by far our favourite restaurant in Taunton. Paul, Will and the team are so friendly and informative. Every time we try somethingnewandare never disappointed. They take something straight forward like figs wrapped with Parma ham and stuffed with goats cheese and turn it into something fantastic by using first class ingredients. The N‘Djua is not on many menus but so good. You must go!

Hidden Gem! We found this place by accident prior to attending the theatre nearby. I have difficult dietary needs due to having a stomach surgery recently and would usually call restaurants and book ahead to avoid awkward conversations. However, it was no problem at all...
