My twin brother Stephen and I dropped into The Little Oak Pub on a cold and blustery Wednesday afternoon ( March ,pre coronavirus lockdown ) ,its a pub I've been visiting for years,a pub I always look forward to visiting on any trip into Chester I take. I love the look of this pub, a traditional authentic interior, nice decor and furnishings including a cool looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, a nice pub to chill out in. We were greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff who served us a cider each, ciders were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and we just chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My cider was really good, a delicious dark fruit cider bursting with taste ,very easy to drink,a cider that certainly cut through the thirst. As we were pub and bar hopping we only stayed for the one cider each before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The Little Oak Pub is easy to locate along Boughton. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, Midday till 11pm. A great pub,one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.

Having been here umpteen times before didn't think I'd be writing this, but be warned, it could be you next. Last night visited with a friend (I'm 55, he's 62) who went to the loo as I queued for the beer. After people were served before me despite coming to the bar later I raised it with the staff (good bar etiquette normally notices the running order of visitors). The landlord/manager coming to the bar took exception & backed his staff, told me I was out of order rather forcibly! A bit stunned I asked why I was the one at the fault explaining the circumstances to no avail! No swearing, no shouting but I was then virtually frogmarched off the premises to my initial bemusement, but when I told him he was a "Big Brave Evertonian" he lost it. So pursuing me outside I had him in my face, literally, telling me "I know where you live". At this stage his wife had rushed out & got him back in, was apologetic (but on reflection quite clever not to say sorry or openly admit he was in the wrong) . By this time my friend was coming back from the loo & I could see him through the window looking for me, she thought I was going in & pleased "Don't go back in" (she appears to know his pattern of behaviour well I'd surmise?). Anyway this morning, after sleeping on it, I've reported it to the police for 2 reasons. 1) Whilst he doesn't know where I live, he knows people who do because as said I've been in there umpteen times with various friends previously, and he could find out inadvertently. I don't want a scratched car, broken window etc. so I wanted it on record with the police. 2) If I'd have done the same I'd expect to have had my collar felt by the police! But I never have & never would, it was about 9.30pm & I was stone cold sober. This guy is licensed & yet acts like this? So I'd be careful & I'd be happy to tell this true tale to anybody thinking of visiting there ahead.

The Little Oak is one of the best pubs in Chester. It doesn't serve food, it doesn't allow children or pets and it makes no apologies for this - it is a real throwback to when pubs were just that, places for adults to go and enjoy a few drinks in an adult atmosphere. The landlord and landlady are friendly to regulars and new customers alike and you get a genuine sense that they enjoy what they do as oppose to simply being there to pay the bills. If you are looking for a 'real' pub, with very reasonable prices I must add, where you can walk in with either a three piece suit or jeans and a t-shirt and no one will bat an eye lid either way then look no further. If you want to take your kids out for a meal - and there is nothing wrong with that either of course - then look somewhere else.

My boyfriend and I came into the pub for a quiet drink after a long day. As we approached the bar maid, she was very rude and un welcoming as were all the staff, when we paid for our drinks (bottled Budweiser and a pint of carling), she snatched the £20 and slammed the change in my boyfriend's hand. When we sat down outside, we felt very uncomfortable and un welcomed by other members of staff as they kept giving us dirty looks. My boyfriend and I left shortly after as we DID NOT feel welcome! Definitely will not be returning to this pub anytime soon.

The place has improved since this last landlord has been there. He is a scouse fella and very friendly to anyone who wants a chat, regulars or new faces. Prices are good compared to 300 yards up the road in the town centre itself. The layout is good with several small nooks to be private in if you don't want the rest of the pub to hear your business 😉 Pool and darts are played here and there is a good sized Beer Beer garden out back.

We decided to pop in this pub while down Chester, we were pleasantly surprised, lovely warm welcome by Chris the landlord, who had great banter with the locals, decided to go back after we had our evening meal and we weren't disappointed! The place was full as the match was on, but getting served wasn't a problem - and it was cheap! Locals were really friendly and we were made to feel included in conversation with them! Again we had a good laugh - and the banter was great! Will definitely come back!!

Recently re opened after a refurbishment (keeping the traditional pub style). Good value and friendly pub. Location is a bit weird (no good if you have a car). Good refuge for anyone to wait while the wife does a waitrose shop.
