I stayed in room 2, which had a comfortable bed and is a spacious room with an en-suite bathroom. Lovely, friendly staff. Lovely cooked to order breakfast in the morning. As the room is above a pub, I knew it wouldn't be quiet till at least 23.30ish. I hadn't realised that, having the alleyway right outside the window, how noisy it would be. So sleep wasn't great as people can be very noisy walking by at all hours in the early hours of the morning.

Stayed here for a short break - had found it online and thought it looked good - what a gem! Traditional pub (with ancient wall found during restoration) in a quirky, eclectic style and rooms above in the same style. We really enjoyed the turntable and collection of vinyl - not often seen in a hotel room! The owner and staff were all great - very helpful and attentive and the breakfast was great. We would definitely recommend and revisit. Thank you.

The decor and ambiance are great and we went in two days running. Our second visit was cut short however, we ordered a last round at 10.40, at 10.55 the music and lights were turned off, chairs stacked around us, shutters loudly closed. We left our unfinished drinks as we felt so uncomfortable.

Just an overnight stay from our home in Llandudno to do the ghost tour. This is a proper pub, quirky, old and great character. We were made to feel very welcome from booking in. Loved the room, clean and comfortable. It's not 5 star so don't expect it! Criticism... Breakfast...the toast wasn't toasted, it was bread lol, I think two pieces had a tiny bit of colour! We didn't understand having leafy salad with the cooked breakfast, my coffee was cold, the jam and marmalade were in dishes whereas I'd personally prefer a single serve sealed pot/pack. But generally, we enjoyed our stay and would come back again.

I went to the Golden Eagle for Sunday lunch recently. I am still recovering. It was too big for a plate, they wheeled it in on a cart. Seriously. it was a smashing lunch with everything you can expect, I had the roast chicken, it was a half, but not a poor underfed chick, but the size of a swan. All was cooked to perfection. Service was friendly and fun. Only thing I would change perhaps is to give it a little creative edge, though then they would really need 2 waiters to carry the thing to the groaning table.A definite recommend.

Visited the bar Saturday pre-attending the race course. Busy as you'd expect but hellish expensive. One large Jack Daniels and Coke, one Gin and tonic - £ 11.90 !!!!!! I questioned the manager and he smiled saying a measured shot was £ 3.00 plus a fee for the coke / tonic. I looked around the bar area and found NO bar tariff displayed - which I thought was a legal requirement. I asked a couple of locals how they afforded the prices and they quipped " prices go up on race day for visitors ". So - it appears - a two tier tariff subject to where you live. If I was like minded I'd refer the bar to trading standards but I can't be bothered. Next time - visitors to Chester racecourse take heed - walk past the Golden Eagle, on the same street and further down - bars of similar quality at much cheaper prices !!!!!

If you prefer a place with a lot of history which caters for all ages and has a lovely ambience with great food, (steak night on Tuesday's always fab) then this is the one for you. Attended Saturday night quiz. Arrived at 7:00pm. Started with a glass of red wine and Mediterranean platter followed by a to die for cheesecake( all food freshly cooked by Jason ( chef ) and the team. Wolfed the cheese cake down and realised I hadn't took a picture. Had a few more vino's during the quiz along with some banter with Jason and the regular customers. All tables were booked and nice to see a full house. Made a change to the average Saturday night and will certainly do it again. Would recommend to call in prior for some brekky or lunch to book quiz any day before or on Saturday. Quiz moved on quicker than your normal pub quiz which was great with the light banter and no typical interruptions from pub scene. Didn't win the quiz but enjoyed trying.

Stumbled on this wonderful cafe as we were on our way home from a camping trip. The staff are incredibly friendly and were so welcoming and kind to my 5yo daughter. The food was amazing, we both had the breakfast and my daughter had a lunch box which she loved and I thought it was great value, when we went inside to pay we couldn't not buy one (or two) of the amazing cakes. So delicious. Thank you :)

Our favourite place to come for brunch after football. The team, as always, went above and beyond with the orders for our family (all with different dietary requirements). The boys had the classic big breakfast with local products at a great price. I tried the weekend special eggs Benedict and it was amazing. The boys filled their boots. The girls enjoyed new things. The doorstop toast alone is worth the visit. Sadly, no room for my favourite one the menu - parsnip cake, but the cake-away option meant I could enjoy it later. We brought a friend for their first visit and she was blown away.

Not religious at all but like other reviewers found this true OASIS when looking for refreshment in Chester Just great, lovely staff and clientele and great quality and value coffee and cakes... Interesting selection of books, gifts, cards etc Would use regularly if we lived locally Staff say they may have to relocate soon due to "commercial development of the site" Surely the Church which is not short of funds can provide an alternative venue for this wonderful place which probably does more for spreading the religious message than many more traditional churches etc...something in the Cathedral Precinct maybe?? Good luck to you all and God bless ( if it helps)
