Worse fish and chips we've ever had. Large cod and chips were absolutely tiny and not value for money. Cod was awfull and chewy and the chips were pale, dry with no flavour. Just avoid

This used to be great, but now is terrible, the counter staff are rude and make you feel you are intruding, you are a nuisance, and the chips are all bits, been going for years, but wont be again, they have lost the plot.

The food was okay the customer service was bad staff swearing and in need of training the shop was dirty tables not cleaned and very unhygienic and they have a massive green wheely bin full of rubbish next to the table where u eat and no napkins.

What a fabulous experience we had here today. My daughter has food allergies and the lady serving us was so knowledgeable and made sure we found something she could eat safely. She was so kind. The food and service were excellent! Will definitely be back next time we’re in the area

Greasy fish and chips and could not eat it with the forks they gave us. I know shops are no longer allowed to give plastic forks but you do get large wooden forks, ended up giving my fish to my husband as could not cut it and with it being greasy did not want to eat it with my hands.

The fish and chips here are top-notch! The fish has a perfectly crispy coating on the outside and is beautifully tender inside. The chips are golden, hand-cut, and just right—crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The staff are super friendly and make you feel really welcome. If you're in Redcar and fancy a fish and chips that’ll make you smile wider than a seagull spotting a chip, The Little Chip is your place. I’ll definitely be back!

The fish and chips were greasy and could not eat the fish with the forks they gave us. I know they cannot give plastic forks but you can get large wooden ones. Overpriced. I gave up with them and gave my husband my fish.

Really disappointed with my food today. Large sausage and chips with curry sauce and a bottle of pop £9.80, and was the smallest portion of chips ever. Chips were tasteless and undercooked , sausage which was two small ones which I presume was so they fit in the tiny box had hardly any batter on. Curry sauce was also lacking taste and was just watery. I have to say in my opinion the worst and most overpriced chippy in Redcar. Definitely won’t be trying again. Looking round the rather small portions and anemic chips were a common occurrence. Very disappointing.

Me and my partner normally frequent this chippy but after tonight experience with them we will not be going back again the attitude from 2 of the ladies was disgusting this was about 7pm last night and it was the lady that was working on the fryer and the lady with the tattoos the other lady was lovely I asked for a box she asked if we was sitting in which we normally do but we sat out this evening and she said yes I’ll put your order in a box

Pretty rough fish and chips expensive and tasteless. Visit redcar all the time and never had a issue with any of the chippys, first time trying this one but this is way below par so definitely the last time. Portion sizes are ridiculous too for the price.

The cod and chips were quite greasy! Chips weren’t dry and crispy, but instead were soggy and greasy! Fairly small piece of cod. Not great value ant £9.95! Overall, it was ok, but there are far better places in Redcar. We won’t be returning. On the plus side, service was good and friendly.

The worst chip shop around. Ask for a large got what is the equivalent to a small but costs a large, the staff are rude and interrupt you from speaking while ordering and I never managed to get everything I wanted and shoved with “cash or card” The staff need to learn some manner and respect, I get that it’s miserable but it’s every time I’ve been (only when I have if the one I like is closed) the staff are always the same. Used to be a l okay chippy. Paid £7.20 for a “large” chips and sausage with curry, I wish I got a photo of how small it was!

Travelled from Richmond Yorks after a recommendation from a friend also from Richmond absolutely delicious fresh fish and hot definitely the best fish and chips and very reasonable have paid far more for less and the two ladies very pleasant Thank you will be back

I’m not one to put complaints up as I hate doing it but we went here recently , cost £20 for 3 regular sized meals , only to receive a cod and chips that was as small as a kids portion , sausage and chips was the same and the sausage was probably the size of a small kids portion . Food was nice , but definitely not worth the cost for the super small portion sizes . Think I’ll stick with saltburn chippy .

I usually go to this place whenever I'm down the seafront area, my usual is sea breeze and don't think it will be beaten. I went in and asked for patty and chips twice, said there was none available but it will take 15 mins, that's fine I still ordered, came back 15 mins later. When we got home to eat them, honestly it's the worst chippy I've ever had. The patty was burnt, the potato was rock hard and probably a mouthful of fish inside. The food was meant to be fresh as it had just been put in the fryer. My son also got fish cake, that was just like mush, all the chips were soggy too. Never again, crap.

Absolutely 👍 rubbish portion for £8.50 You would at least expect a better size portion than they are giving out.

Size of these meals for the price is crazy! I ordered 4 children’s meals - only have a choice of sausage or 3 nuggets for £4.20 each. I paid £3.10 for ‘large’ chips which when they came were definitely small (not even regular) to which I was as told they are regular as they don’t do large - didn’t state this when I was paying! Please see photo of said chips. No fish bites are sold here, you can’t put on your own salt and vinegar and the staff are just rude. Will never go here again!

I don't often write poor reviews but unfortunately i feel i need to on this occasion, I ordered a large portion of chips with Gravy and paid £4:80 , went back to the car only to find the smallest portion of large chips i have ever seen, plus no gravy on them, having tasted a few they were cold and tasteless, I didn't finish them I just binned them not a great experience.

Food was average fish was very small but still nice chips seemed like been there a while, so overall just very average & did not get much for your money. I think more busy when seaside rush & people dnt concentrate on food because of kids families etc so dnt realise but we only went there other day.

Visited today.... walked in server kept the chat she was in with other staff ongoing.... fair enough ... stood at the counter..... a lad walks in and she takes his order and ignored me and to what appeared taking his order. I felt like a ghost other than that im 6ft4 wearing high vis. A wasted trip when this was the only chippy I would go to, and I travel from middlesbrough and further just to do so. I won't return unfortunately. This is edited as I was a bit unreasonable in my initial write up and a fair reply was made. I'll reiterate I'm not a mind reader though communication could have prevented it. A simple ill be with you in a moment I'm in the middle of dealing with someone who isn't in the shop, although personally I wouldn't ignore the customer infront of me and wait until someone else comes back before continuing on.... because the reality is I'm never coming back. Food is generally nice and fairly priced hence why I did come.

I had a terrible experience today and had the need to write a review.I go to the little chip probably once a week and I always find the older staff members very unfriendly today I got sausage and chips twice with salt and vinegar which the staff members put the items in a box and put so much vinegar on them which caused the box to leak with vinegar.I asked for a bit of paper to place on the underside of the box so it wouldn’t leak onto my car and my family member s clothes the lady replied no I can’t give you any.I was astounded by this response but walked out of the chip shop upset as the customer service was terrible.I got the chips to the car and as I passed them to my son all the vinegar leaked all over him and the car seat.I had to go back And plead with the staff member to give me a bit of paper the staff member still refused then a lady in the queue said to the staff member that she really should give me some paper as the box was leaking and soggy.The staff members really need customer service training also after reading other reviews and replies off the owner he does.

Food was lovely, staff didn't really listen to my order so ended up with Scraps on everything, (not wanted) But what I got was great. Good quality and very tasty. A little more attention to customers orders and this gets an easy 5 stars.

Only visit this chip shop when I see family up north (we call it the green fish shop) hands down this is he best on up there. Staff always helpful and lovely, prices are fair and food delicious. Husband always gets large fish and chips and is always happy with it, I always get mini cod (pictured) and chips and it's perfect, my favourite fish and chips. My old disappointment is that it's hard to get seating but we hang around long enough and we get one so win win. Well done and keep doing what you do.

Went here tonight and wow the portions are ridiculous it was so small I’d hate to see the mini fish n chips probably a fish finger , we got old burnt chips dry and cold and cod I use that loosely was so flat dry and tasteless I’d give no stars if i could probably best if you avoid this place not worth it all mostly went in the bin

We used to be regulars but I think I'm done with the place. Sick of paying a fortune for ridiculously small portions. It's very inconsistent- sometimes the food is fresh and sometimes it isn't. Why are Little Chip being so stingy? They are losing customers and need to take action.

Absolutely shocking customer service, The lady who served my partner was called Laura as my partner said her order she realised she didn’t want 1 thing off the order so she asked to remove it bearing in mind she hadn’t even paid yet and Laura huffed and rolled her eyes, portion sizes are shocking, honestly wouldn’t waste a penny here again it’s shocking. Oliver’s fish and chips is now my go to and wow they don’t disappoint.

DO NOT EAT FROM HERE ITS A MASSIVE WASTE OF MONEY!! Very over priced,scrappy chips tiny fish almost transparent, the portion sizes are like a child’s meal. Also got given the curry instead of peas and then the best part is when you phone to complain and tell them how rubbish it is the staff then tell you to F**K OFF!! and slam the phone down!!! If it wasn’t for it being a 20 minute drive I would of taken the lot back and asked for my money back.

The little chip in Redcar what can I say.. to us is faultless, the portion sizes are value for money, but if you’re only paying for a mini cod and chips what do you expect something that’s a size of a whale? Moreover mum and I go ever Friday and we think it’s worth every penny, the staff couldn’t be more attentive and are very helpful and friendly towards us and we have tried nearly every single fish and chip shop in Redcar and still this one beats the others by a single mile.

The portions are so small and the fish is about the size of a small adults fist i go nearly every week and the fish seems to get smaller and smaller every time, i am half expecting to pull the batter off one day and it have a fillet of Goldfish inside it and they call that a regular cod, i don't think they know other places do a large cod, for what they charge for a small cod and chips there you can get a massive cod and chips from next door, and don't get me started on their drinks they sell multi pack cans singularly (they say on the can not to be sold singularly) or they sell the ones with the foreign writing on them.

Overpriced, undercooked chips, sloppy fish cake that was absolutely tasteless, ( since when did a fish cake become ball shaped?) curry sauce was watery, all four of us were of the same opinion. Tea was like dish water at £1.80 a cup! Service with a smile does not exist & although we’re eating in the food was served in open wrapper with a wooden fork. I definitely could not recommend this fish & chip shop.

100% would not go back, was just charged almost £12 for two portions of white raw chips ,with watery tasteless curry, and the service needs major improvement, a smile goes a long way.

What has happened to this place? It used to be one if the best but twice I've been now and the chips were all bruised and scrappy, I thought it must hahe been a one off but visited again and they were again all bruised and scrappy. The homemade fishcake should be called a potato cake, it had no fish in it or if it did very little that you couldn't taste it, and it was very bland, the better however was good. Staff member very polite and friendly. Overall disappointed and won't be returning.

Visited yesterday, very disappointed, raw chips, raw potato in fish pattie. Poor helping of chips, fish was cooked well but very small, more batter than fish. £16 for cod and chips , small chips with fish pattie and a drink, not good value.

Friendly and helpful service even though it was busy when we visited. Managed to get seated and ordered food at the counter. Reasonably priced food. Chips looked pale but tasted great and the batter on the fish was lovely, light and crispy. Tasty meal as always, worth a visit when in Redcar

Smallest fish I've ever had. I paid £19.90 for a regular fish and chips, one chips, 2 bottles of coke and 2 curry sauces. Surely I was over charged. I've put a picture of the fish and chips.

It was alright nothing flash about this place the chips could have been a little bit better too many scrappy chips think we got the bottom of the pile but otherwise the fish was well cooked and tasted good.

This place is pleasant. It's great that they use cardboard trays instead of plastic ones. The staff was extremely friendly. Customers have the option to either dine in or take their food to go.

Staff didnt want to listen to my order and wouldn't cook what I wanted.... I was pretty much made to order scampy which when it came was burnt. Worst experience I've had but usually nice.

Called in today after a 9 mile coast walk. Most places were closed but as this is a long established business we thought they’d have to be good. We normally go to SeaBreeze in Redcar, as it was closed we popped in here. It was clean, we could have fish cooked to order, friendly service . Fish and chips twice with mushy peas. Fish was nice, homemade peas are good, but chips were not good at all, in the soggy, anaemic and yet some were undercooked. Very disappointed, as It’s not hard to do good crispy golden chips. We won’t be back.

Seabreeze was closed tonight, so we thought we would try little chip NEVER EVER AGAIN ordered fish for myself and fish and chips for my husband. unwrapping the paper to see a small shabby fish ( ment to be freshly cooked) looked like been sat under heat lamp for a while,until I tasted it, first taste I got was grease so I removed the horrid batter to taste the fish, tasteless utterly tasteless. That fish was not fresh at all I could not eat it. My husband's was the same said chips were nice, shame only received a few, but eat it as was hungry and we had spent 16 pounds on it, to what he wishes he hadn't Laid heavy on his stomach, blooded stomach and has give him the 💩 Would rather go without Disappointed, discussed

Visited on a quiet Sunday afternoon, staff were pleasant, ordered 2 fish and a small carton of peas. I did ask for a whale of cod, they said they didn't sell a whale of cod so ordered 2 normal size cod. However, they were tiny! Literally half the size of a normal fillet of cod. £11.60 was very over priced for some small fillets. I won't be going again.

Update: I was passing and decided to give them another go, portion sizes were gone this time and the food was great, review updated to reflect 👍 Little is the key word here. The fish and chips tasted great but the portion sizes are ridiculously small. I'm slim built, and this is the first time I've still been hungry after a large fish and chips, in fact I usually struggle to finish a large!! I would say the large is comparable to a small from most places. At nearly £20 for 2 effectively small fish n chips with 2 cans of fizz and a child's portion it's the most expensive fish and chip takeaway I've ever been to. Maybe I went on a bad day or something, but I won't be going back.
