Without a doubt one of (probably THE) best dining experiences I have ever experienced. The staff were all friendly, helpful and not too formal. Helped create such a relaxed atmosphere for a very serious restaurant. We went for a couple of cocktails to start, both with really unique flavours. Followed by the three course tasting menu where each dish was fantastic. A must visit in Edinburgh, props to the team at the Little Chartroom.

Fantastic lunch here. Went for the three course lunch. All sublime, especially the mushroom agnolotti. Fab negroni too. Paired dessert wines also highly recommended. Beautiful space, very attentive and friendly waiting staff. Can't wait to visit again.

This was a truly exceptional gastronomical experience. Really exciting, creative and innovative Scottish cuisine. I had the best seat in the house and had the pleasure of watching the sous chefs fire all the dishes in the kitchen. The format is a 3 or 5 course menu, but not prix fixe. You have a choice among the courses. The oyster starter revealed one of the best and freshest oysters I’ve ever tasted. It didn’t need any dressing. My scallop was cooked perfectly with a silky texture, and again- didn’t need the help of any accompaniments. The seafood is of such high caliber that I think it can all stand on its own. My main course - the mushroom agnolotti was a tad salty, but cooked perfectly Al dente. The dessert course-bramble+ roast vanilla choux, was absolutely fantastic and a perfect end to a meal which is to be truly savored. Oh- the Negroni was excellent- the first truly craft cocktail I found in Scotland! All staff were very professional, knowledgeable and so friendly.

Exquisite experience from start to finish with amazing food and warm hosting. My husband and I have been recommended this place from a number of friends and got gifted a voucher as a wedding present. The wait was so worthwhile and the meal was wonderful. We had a nice view of the kitchen at our seats - such a calm and professional kitchen. The food was absolutely delicious and paired excellently with the drinks. The highlights for us were the desserts (chocolate/strawberry options), Negroni aperitif and Italian dessert wine. We will definitely be back; one of the nicest restaurants in Edinburgh.

Let’s start at the end…as it sets the context for everything else that follows… My wife and I were sat at the chef’s table where you have a view of the kitchen…the clean up at the end was as impressive as the food. I was in the army for ten years and appreciate a commitment to cleanliness and this kitchen is IMMACULATE. 🫡 The people that work here are awesome. Warm, personable and make you feel welcome in a way that isn’t contrived…the team makes for a really lovely, unpretentious atmosphere. The food is exceptional, really great. My wife and I both had the dark chocolate crème brûlée for pudding and both agreed it was the best pudding we’ve ever had. Wine and drinks were really awesome too. One of the best meals I’ve had in Edinburgh, hands down. Choosing to go somewhere else would be an act of culinary self harm.

One of the best dining experiences I have had. I made a last minute reservation with dietary requirements (no dairy + no nuts) and they created such an amazing tasting menu regardless. Every single course was extremely appetizing and well paired. Simply wonderful. Additionally, getting to watch the chefs prepare the dishes from the “chefs table” was the cherry on top of the cake. The Little Chartroom is a restaurant I would highly recommend, whether for a special occasion or just to treat yourself - you won’t be disappointed.

We spent a very nice evening. The food was very good, but the service was a bit chaotic. But very friendly. The only thing that still needs to be worked on is the ambience. It's a bit very spartan and therefore unfortunately very, very, very loud. I can really recommend the restaurant.

I’ve known Roberto and Shawn who own and created this lovely restaurant since their days at the now closed and,, as far as I’m concerned, much lamented Castle Terrace Restaurant. I’ve not managed to get to this Little Chartroom till this weekend but enjoyed the original very Little Chartroom often. So I was here in great anticipation and was not disappointed. Great good, wonderful service, pleasant and relaxing ambiance and a perfect flat white in their wine bar, Ardfern, next door to finish a most enjoyable lunch. Stand out for me was the venison, amazing flavours and so very tender a butter knife would cut it.

I visited this restaurant with a variety of complex food allergies and the restaurant created a whole menu for me to choose from. Everything was excellent, so delicious, perfect service too - attentive but not overbearing. It was such a treat for me to have choices and feel like I was able to have the same experience and level of food as the other diners in my party. They even made me my own bread roll to start! Would definitely recommend :) thank you so much. I also enjoyed the fact that they did the wine pairing suited to whichever dishes people chose. Many places only do a wine pairing if everyone is eating the same food but it was good that we could choose our own food and still get matched wines. We especially enjoyed the fennel oysters!

Beautiful meal at The Little Chartroom. We went for the three courses, although in hindsight, I wish I’d gone for the five course so I could have sampled different courses. The cheddar and girolle quiche was lovely, although the truffle didn’t come through. In general, that’s how I would characterise the cooking. Very nice, but lacking in intense flavours. Similar with the sweetcorn and ricotta manti. Very lovely but lacking in an intensity of flavour. However, there were big bold flavours in the final course of Stilton and apricot which was beautiful. The wine pairings were excellent with some unusual and beautiful wines (the one from Georgia was standout). The service was great, efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. My only criticism was the acoustics. All the hard surfaces and being at a table in the middle of the room meant that I had the sensation of noise the whole time. When I go again, I’ll ask for a table at the edge of the room. Overall, a brilliant night.

Nice classy exterior with a blue grey exterior, modern interior, minimalistic with black tables and beech coloured wood chairs and black laminate floor and is air conditioned for summer. There is about 30+ seating with a chef table for about 5 persons with the view of the 6chefs prepping the food. Seating at the wall on a long chair with padding with cushions as back rest, was Slightly uncomfortable after 90minutes. Cutlery was paint brush handle designed ( thin!) Firstly the noise level for extremely high - lack of soft furnishings and there was the then a competition to talk louder and louder. The layer negroni, a take on the classic tasted very good. A combination of sourness from the grapefruit and sweatness of the orange apperitivo, shame about the headache afterwards. The bread with butter was excellent, was a cross between a brioche and sour dough The oysters from loch fyne again excellent- great taste but must say it over powers the oysters so good if one is somewhat squeamish of oysters Fermented carrot hot sauce had hints of Tabasco and fennel and green chilli ponzu Starters: Duck liver parfait Duck dish interesting as slightly on the livery side , a mousse of the liver pate, not quite foie gras with sliced cherries and crunchy puffs . The brioche bread was interesting as it had pulled duck meat in it . Then somewhat of a long pause to Mains , perhaps even 20mins. The cod on fregola with olives, heritage tomatoes, was a very well put together dish with a lovely sauce. The fish could have been slightly less undercooked. The fish dryness was helped with the sauce. Desert: Elderflower flavoured Panna Cotta at base with layer of sliced strawberries then a layer of crumble and sorbet on the top. Above average but not outstanding. Service was friendly. There was a 12.5% service charge which i disagree with, it’s the average London service charges and should be lower in Edinburgh.

This place is a gem! One instantly feels at ease when walking in. It’s a cozy, Scandinavian-type vibe. Service is excellent. Food was incredibly tasty. I particularly liked the courgette tart and cured halibut which had bold flavours that complimented each other. The main and the dessert were quite heavy, so I would have ended on a fresher note if it had been possible rather than a heavy chocolate mousse with banana ice cream. The other minor downside is that the quantity of wine in the wine pairing is a little too much. The sommelier did an excellent job picking the wine to compliment the food however! Would return again and again.

I have been wanting to dine here for a while, but as an irregular visitor to Edinburgh getting a reservation has, until now, proved impossible. It was worth the wait. The food is imaginative, with a strong emphasis on Scottish produce, and the execution was absolutely on point. The young staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the minimalist decor to my taste. My only (very minor) complaint was that the extraction system in the open kitchen didn't quite do its job, and there was a smell from the small deep fat fryer they use. We have in the past visited The Kitchin quite a few times, and I would say this is on a par for the quality of food, but in a smaller, more relaxed environment. Leith is firmly establishing itself as a culinary hotspot: long may it continue.

Leith is now on the Edinburgh tram route so is very accessible. We had beautifully presented and even better tasting food, cooked in front of us without drama by the hard working chefs. Some of the best combinations of flavours I have eaten in years, served by friendly and knowledgeable staff who took justifiable pride in what they were putting in front of us. Fantastic 5 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Every course was beautifully cooked and presented. Service was excellent. There was no pressure to hurry up and finish by a certain time. Definitely recommend and would come again.

Excellent service, atmosphere and above all: excellent food! We are not so much into fine dining but this place really made it worth it for us. We had the three course menu and it was delicious, generous amount of food and last but not least: great desserts. Would definitely come back.

I have never had such spectacular food and wine. It was presented like art work with flavors the are clean and compliment the mostly bio local products used. But the combinations are surprising and work so well. The sommelier knows EVERYTHING about the wine and the Chef is simply a master. The service were so elegant but kind and supportive of us with our 6 month old in tow. The atmosphere was relaxed and not overtly formal. The food is 5 star served elegantly and enjoyed in a calm and pleasant environment. I could never give this Restuarant a high enough recommendation. Go! Be amazed! Enjoy and relax. Prices are reasonable for the high quality of ingredients and preparation.

For gastronomic explorers in Edinburgh I recommend this discreet restaurant that offers a very interesting menu. I recommend the tasting of 3 courses paired with wines from excellent European cellars masterfully selected by the young sommelier. The Foie Grass Parfait is worth making a special distinction, a delight not to be missed and that undoubtedly paves the way for its first star.

A must-visit restaurant. We had a fantastic meal here, the whole experience was spot on. Really friendly welcome and service throughout accompanied by seriously top quality cooking. This must surely be worth a Michelin star? I have not reviewed anything for a long time but this deserves it. The menu is short, only three choices per course but they so well executed. We also were persuaded to share the starter that we hadn’t chosen and that was both delicious but also a service masterclass to upsell us! Highlights were the duck liver mousse starter - amazingly light by itself but supplemented with a delicious roll stuffed with the confit leg - and the venison (Sika deer), really tender. Also had one of the best cheese courses I have had anywhere, Cashel Blue with a peach tarte tatin, just fabulous. It is also not expensive for this quality of cooking. I would love to go back, wish it was in London!

Unbelievable flavors served in an unpretentious and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend the Duck Liver Parfait and Lamb Saddle. THE MEAL IS INCOMPLETE WITHOUT THE WINE PAIRING! A perfect compliment, expertly chosen.

Truly amazing. I have no more words to describe the food and experience. Recommend the “chef’s table” for seating. Get as much as you can and share it with someone special. Wine pairing is a must in my opinion

My husband is a chef in the RFA and has been listening to The Burnt Chef Project Podcasts when he's been away at sea. In one of these they interviewed Roberta Hall-McCarron and mentioned her restaurant The Little Chartroom. When I told him I was coming to Leith to visit him, he said he wanted to treat me to a special dinner and suggested The Little Chartroom. He hasn't long qualified and I am in a new job so with money a little tight, we naturally want to make sure we have the best experience when we dine out somewhere special so I checked the reviews here, and they made me a little nervous. I am absolutely thrilled to say not one of the less favourable reviews was in my opinion justified. Every dish we tried was superb. I had never had oysters before so gave them a go and I would definitely have them again. My husband had the crab starter, I had the duck and both were mouthwateringly beautiful in both presentation and taste. We both had the lamb, each item was delicious but for me what stood out was the main star which just melted in your mouth and the jus was excellent. We asked the very knowledgeable sommelier to recommend a wine for the lamb as my husband isn't a fan of red and I'm almost T total and he selected a beautiful chillian wine that was very soft on the pallet and went marvelously with the lamb. For desert my husband had the tart, I had the chocolate cherry hazelnut as it was sold to me in the beautiful picture I had seen on Instagram and honestly when I tasted my husband's I jokingly reached for his plate, my own sent me to heaven. The ambiance was just right, I envy chefs who can stay that calm, that clean and be so precise (all three I have yet to master as a home cook), and every aspect of our experience was even better than what we had hoped. It was genuinely all we could talk about on our return to the ship. We have already recommended this venue to more local friends (we live on the south coast of England) and have said that for a special occasion we would definitely be prepared to pay for a plane ticket and hotel for the night just to dine here once more. I turn 40 next year so I've already dropped some large hints in that regard. Thank you to everyone at The Little Chartroom who made my last night in Scotland a night I will never forget as it capped off a special weekend with my husband (Sans children) beautifly

I have been looking forward to have an opportunity to visit the Little Chartroom for years. We visited a few weeks ago for our wedding anniversary. We had such a lovely evening. We had the tasting menu and paired wines. The food was incredible. Amazingly, one of the biggest highlights was the bread. It was perfection. It was one of the most relaxed pleasant dining experiences. The waiters were so lovely and created a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Visited here on Wednesday for a coffee and cake/ roll. Waitress came for our order but we weren’t quite ready. We then waited for 20 minutes with no one coming over to offer service. Meanwhile we were watching one member of staff working flat out to make coffees whilst 4 others flirted, laughed and joked with each other behind the service counter. We tried to catch the attention of the non working group behind the counter by holding our arm up etc but were totally ignored. Eventually I went up to the counter to ask for service (sorry to spoil your fun guys) informing them that we were actually about to leave as we’d been ignored for so long. They then all separated and disappeared and someone else appeared for our order. This arrived quickly and was of a good standard. Before we’d quite finished one of the girls from the flirting group came over and whisked away a plate and cup. I was not finished and my friend had only just swallowed his last mouthful of coffee. She was definitely ‘in a huff’. Later we tried to get attention to pay the bill. Guess what- we just went up to the counter in the end. We won’t be back even though we are locals. 3 stars is for the food and coffee -0 stars for those particular staff.

We had lunch yesterday 19 October. We had a wonderful experience. Everything was perfect . The staff are amazing, one and all. The service is impeccable. The food is truly exceptional. If you get the chance to go here, do not hestitate. I cannot find fault with anything at all. We chose the Market Place menu and I was fortunate enough not to be driving , so chose the wine pairing with my menu. It was so worth it. I had an English wine for the first time and highly recommend it. My husband was driving and only had a sip of each of mine, but he agreed totally that the choices were perfect. We were both bowled over by the whole experience .I am looking forward to going back as soon as possible.
