What a great place to stay centre of the town. Arrive in the evening and park, which avoids all the early morning traffic jams on the streets. Great host and locals in the pub. We had our best time in wales staying here. Definitely recommending this all 5’s⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We stayed at Harlech house while on holiday to see north wales. honestly had one of the best times at this location. They have the friendliest staff, cleanest rooms, all extras are catered for. Safe and secure location with fantastic views. Would recommend people stay here it was great. Shops, train station, bus stop is on the doorstep. Breach is a bit further but well worth the visit. Harlech castle just 3 minutes away. Me and my partner would like to extend are thanks for a great, fun and relaxing time.

Great pub! Recently re-opened and refurbished, there's a nice selection of drinks, a lovely warm welcome and a fire in the grate in the winter. Josh the landlord is really friendly and helpful and they do a pub quiz on Sunday nights which is fun. Highly recommended!

Went for lunch with a group of 10. They weren't phased by everyone going up individually to pay and the food arrived promptly for all of us. Not the healthiest of menu choices, but everyone enjoyed their meals, which were tasty and good value. Just what was needed on a wet, cold day camping in Wales.

Called on with family of ten for quick Pint and headed for the signposted beer garden, OMG it's a dump, about 300 empty glasses on a piece of derelict ground so instead went inside for a drink, league of gentlemen sprung to mind it was an absolute dive and the barman was even better, after he walked out on serving us midway through pouring a pint, when we asked for a glass of water he told me that the pub has no water at all and no kitchen, as he said this a plate of food came out for a customer! All the soft drinks were flat and tasted awful, final point, thought it was illegal to serve food in a premises with no water?

Popped into Harlech on a Thursday evening for some food - ok so this wasn't my first choice but it was open and had chips.Really friendly guy behind the bar and although not busy the food was scrummy. We were here over the Christmas period. It was the only place really to gat a drink in Harlech. Yet they only open at times to suit their lazy selves. There is a board saying no food! The hotel I believe wasn't open. Inside had a nice open fire and dogs were welcome. However the owners weren't at all friendly. When asked if he was open Christmas Eve the reply was, il open as long as people behave and buy drinks. Once they stop buying and just stand chatting in closing! Wrong attitude I feel! They have their own South African pictures up ( which I liked) but we're not appropriate. Harlech is a small Welsh town, the locals and visitors want access to this pub for food and drink as there isn't others around. I believe if they can't cater for the need they should never have taken the pub on. I won't go again.

After visiting the castle we stopped here for one drink and after being begrudgingly served were thrilled to be treated to the truly surreal spectacle of a very unsteady woman in white stilettos chasing after a plastic muffin dog toy rolling down the steep hill to the front of the premises. We stayed here looking for a decent 3 star hotel to put us up while golfing in the Snowdonia area. Right in the middle of town, its comfortable and homely with friendly staff and our rooms were clean and well serviced. Food is perhaps more average than outstanding and I would have preferred not to have piped musak while eating breakfast. There's a well frequented bar which was pretty lively while we were there - the first night being full of Welshmen cheering on their national team to qualify for Euro 2016 - which they duly achieved thanks to Gareth Bale.Loved the 20 year old cat that sat on the hotel bar....

We come to Harlech every year, and never miss having a drink in the Red Lion. Although we've eaten there in the past, we didn't this year as we simply couldn't fit it in.However, it's a great place to go for a drink with a good selection of real ales if that's what floats your boat, and you can practice your Welsh in safety! (Beware of the landlady, though - after the first sentence out of my mouth, she told me exactly where in South Wales I'm from!!!)The only drawback for me is they don't sell my favourite wine. The pie was nearly all mashed potato topping and a bit disappointing, but the burger was made from goat cheese and walnuts and was probably a bought in commercial product, but that's no bad thing for a veggie burger (preferable to home made mashed vegetable patties anyway!). We ordered the special, steak and hobgoblin'ale pie and cod & chips on recommendation of the lady behind the bar. The pie was excellent but served with frozen chips and peas. The cod was disappointing, definitely frozen and again served with frozen chips and peas. Think Birds Eye frozen, not what we expected when the pub advertises home cooked food, home heated maybe but not home cooked. having said that, the locals were friendly although the whole place seems to be in a time warp - I guess that would apply to many small towns in Wales. It was all great. Lots of choice on the menu and super value for money. Also, the staff were really friendly and it was a proper, local pub where you could go for a drink and have a nice conversation - even though they had a big screen telly. Went for a family lunch today. I ordered a salad with beef. It was served with potato salad, curried rice salad and pasta with mayonnaise in addition to a normal mixed salad and pickled onions. The beef had been very well cooked, thickly sliced and had ample opportunity to dry out before being plated. The mixed salad was fresh and good. Beer excellent. My family had less unpleasant meals, but we all agreed that while the atmosphere was good (several friendly locals) the pub and so-called beer garden were jaded, needing considerable makeovers. Staff and customers friendly. Food average pub prices and reasonable quality. The first time we visited there was a sign outside explaining that the kitchen was closing early (5:30). We were told they weren't serving food because they had been so busy there wasn't any food left. After about 20 mins a local rang up wanting to book a table so they decided to open the kitchen after all and miraculously there was plenty of food! Everyone who came in got what they ordered. We only stayed because we were a bit limited for where else to eat. We did decide to give them a try on another occasion and everything was fine. Vi stannade tre nätter och jag kommer säkert att återvända dit. Det enda minus var att det inte fanns wifi på rummet, bara nere i receptionen, men det funkade.

We stayed round the corner from the Lion and visited a couple of times. Its a traditional pub, can't comment on the food as we did not have anything but looked like traditional pub food. We joined in with the pub quiz and found the locals to be very welcoming and the land lady even bought out free sandwiches and crisps at half time.

We went there 3 times, the first time by chance & the other 2 times by intent! We loved the place - a typical country pub with log fire, fine ales, home-cooked food menu, lots of happy and warm people that make you feel at home as soon as you enter! Taz, the in-house jack russel is an instant hit with adults & children alike - my 2 year old went crazy over him. The staff is very warm & welcoming too. 3 evenings saw 3 different sets of people manning the bar & all of them, happy, jovial, warm & friendly....a small hidden gem which also happens to be fantastic value for money besides everything else said!

Called in to the Lion on the off-chance they were doing food as we didn't fancy the prices at nearby "Plas".Typical local pub with roaring log fire, dart board, and local rugby club in for a meeting!Wasn't too sure what to expect, but the meals were reasonably priced and the food was good too.

Soyons fou ! Nous avons commandé le "Roast of the day" (d'agneau bien sûr). Servi avec 3 légumes frais mais aussi de la purée...et une très bonne sauce. Super bon ! Super chaud ! Le top et pour moins de 7 livres. Allez y sans hésiter, ambiance assurée.

We had lunch in the Lion last Monday, we got a great welcome from the very excited landlady (whose son was about to return from three months in Australia!), Taz the dog is a great feature, Lord Harlech was really entertaining too! The food was great, I can especially recommend the home-cooked ham, egg and chips

This is a friendly old fashioned pub in the centre of Harlech. Good beer and a roaring fire. Haven't stayed there, so can't comment on accommodation.

We frequented this pub on three occasions whilst staying in Harlech in a cold, blustery week in February. The landlady was so very welcoming as we're the locals including us in their banter and pub games. The food is excellent homely fayre, the beer and wine exactly as it should be and I would not hesitate to recommend a visit. Dated and just as a village pub should be.

20 family members have just returned from a weeks holiday in Harlech. I pre-booked the Lion Hotel for a meal on the Sunday evening. Rhian and her staff were more than helpful. It was not easy to feed 20 people in one sitting but they did it very successfully. The atmosphere and food was brilliant, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The red wine is excellent. We returned on halloween night just for a drink - everyone was dressed up, the pub was decked out, the fire was roaring, another great night was had. The staff remembered us and made us very welcome.

Rhian and her staff are always welcoming to locals and visitors alike. Friendly warm atmosphere and great real ale. The B&B rooms are a little outdated but are clean, warm and the breakfast is great. The Lion is good value and we will be there next year for our golf weekend.

The Lion is a friendly local pub serving real ales and cheerful pub grub. The landlord and landlady are friendly and welcoming and the food is a broad variety of mainly traditional fayre cooked to a very good standard with a good and timely service. I had the steak and ale pie which was as tasty as any I've ever tried before and there was plenty of it. The atmosphere is lively, bustly and friendly and the log fire very welcoming after a wet walk in the hills behind Harlech. There were a couple of dogs in the bar but this is quite often the norm in a country pub in an area where people come to do hill walking. I must say I fail to see how anyone could call the beautiful Snowdonia coast "shabby" - Harlech is a charming friendly little town with the most stunning coastal and mountain views you could ask for, and the sunsets rival any I have seen anywhere in the world. We will certainly visit the area again and I am already looking forward to the warmth, hospitality and satisfying meal I know I will get in The Lion Hotel.
