Had a fabulous few days at The Lion - both the accommodation & the food exceeding our expectations. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We had a room overlooking the river, which had everything we needed including an extremely comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious, as was our sandwiches at lunch and dinner in the evening. I cannot recommend The Lion enough - do yourself a favour & visit!

Group booking for a Shropshire MG club of 20 people. From Katy who dealt with my booking, to the manager & all the staff on the day, thank you. You were so helpful, efficient & friendly that it was a real pleasure to have our event lunch with you at The Lion. The food was excellent and so prompt. I was amazed not to have to pre book the choices but it made my life much easier! Thank you & we’ll be back.

Restaurant only. Don't be put off by the pic of a burger. Yes you can have a burger, but unlike what now seems the vast majority of British pub-restaurants, there is a lot more to choose from. The food is pretty decent, well cooked and presented and a good variety. The dining rooms are attractive and comfortable with well-spaced tables and the whole set in a pretty garden, with outside tables, next to the river Teme and the bridge, making a very pleasant spot to stop. There are bar and sitting areas too if you just want a drink or snack. Staff are very efficient, pleasant and numerous enough to make sure service is very good.

Food was lovely - we had an evening meal on the Friday - my steak was delicious and also breakfast Saturday and Sunday which set us up for the day. Highly recommend - and thanks to Jess and her team.

We decided at the last moment to stay here, and it didn't disappoint. Theresa and the ladies made a great job of welcoming us and the food, atmosphere, and fellow guests made for a lovely experience. Would not hesitate to recommend.

The Lion was recommended by the place we stayed, but we had not planned to go, just dropped in on the way back from a day out. A really friendly welcome and we were told they could fit us into the Top Bar for food. We loved it in there, really cosy. The food was great and the staff were really attentive and friendly.

A very disappointing experience on Mothers Day. The service was poor and some of the food was cold and had to be sent back. No response at all from the waiter. On my return, having apologised to my mother-in-law, for whom this should have been a treat, I emailed my thoughts to the restaurant. I received no acknowledgement. After another week went by and still having had no reply, I emailed again to ask if they had received them. I was told that they had been flagged for the manager to deal with but she was on holiday. Three weeks later, I still have had no reply. I have been to this restaurant before and had no complaints. I will not be going back.

We called here for a Sunday lunch with friends while visiting the area for the weekend, it was all a very average and slightly disappointing experience. The Sunday roast was very anaemic and lacking in any flavour, it just needed more love and care, the very pale chewy roast potatoes with no flavour were absolutely the worst part accompanied by a small chewy Yorkshire and a small portion of dry meat and very very greasy gravy with fat floating all over, it was all ok enough to not complain. However equally very poor value for £22 and most people would make better at home; so for a meal out it's not what you expect. As a side note we were seated in the 'top bar' and service was extremely slow and the vibe was certainly a little cold and forgotten about, the bar was equally cold given the very cold weather out.

Have eaten here three times. The first time my husband said it was the best fish and chips he had ever tasted. The following visit three people ordered the same fish dish to find it undercooked and soggy. We gave it another try just before Christmas, most of the meals were ok but the Camembert wreath was appalling. The dough balls were cold, the smoked garlic on top cold, didn’t see rosemary or cranberries but the worst part was the Camembert it was overripe. We each took a fair mouthful to be confronted with the overwhelming smell of ammonia. It took a good 48 hours to get the smell out of my nose. I explained to the waitress what happens to Camembert when it is past it’s use by date and also complained to the gentleman who took payment but we were still charged, incredible really. Maybe a stock control error meant we ended up with an out of date cheese or maybe we weren’t the only complaints.

Utterly disappointed! Service lacked personal touch. Xmas dinner looked like it had been literally thrown on the plate and sloshed with thin gravy-would preferred in separate jug. Minimal veg, small amount of overcooked cabbage found buried under roast potato. Sausage to pig in blanket pink. There was no care, love or attention invested into the preparation and delivery of this meal. Based on this experience I will not recommend to others!

Lovely atmosphere and staff. The meal was mostly enjoyable but ( although not a chef), My personal opinion the starter that I had, (potted crab and crayfish with brioche loaf),would have been much tastier if served with either crusty bread or toast. The brioche that it was served with tasted like cake and did nothing to enhance the flavours of crab and d crayfish . When I ate the rest of the starter without the brioche, oh what a difference. I chose the braised beef for my main. Again flavours were there but I felt it was let down by a lack of ( gravy, some sort of sauce?). Although it was served with what was described as sweet potato dauphinois there was certainly no creamy sauce in it. The meal was described as served with red wine gravy ( I think that may have been the little bit of ju that was around it). Unfortunately sucked up by everything around it as it was so dry ( when the waitress came to ask us if our meal was ok, I did say tasty but a little dry). I didn’t get a reaction.

Lovely, classic inn. Shame I didn’t get more time here. Great room with quality bedding and spacious bathroom with Arran Aromatics ‘After the Rain’ toiletries. Good evening meal delivered to my room as I was on my own but the pub itself looked fab.

Stayed two nights at this lovely restaurant with rooms in a comfortable and well appointed room with a view overlooking the River Teme. Shower was a bit cranky but that did not detract. Evening meal for six in the restaurant both nights was excellent, a good choice of dishes that pleased all tastes. Everything well prepared. Breakfast also very good although on Sunday morning the service was somwhat leisurely. Recommended for a short break with glorious countryside on the doorstep. Friendly and helpful staff.

I absolutely love being in this place and it has a beautifully calm feel. However I am totally astonished by the dolls-house size servings for lunch- at normal lunch prices. I almost asked them if they hadn’t accidentally given me a kiddie’s portion - for a cheaper price- as for over £9 I got two slices of delicious small rye toast, about 7 very small lettuce leaves, 4 olives and a small pot of delicious dip. All very tasty but absolutely not a main course. I know I these are locally sourced ingredients but this felt really wrong. I will definitely return for post lunch coffees but will make sure to eat somewhere else where I can fuel up for lunch before hand.

We were told by other hotel guest that this was the best curry they’d had. We are very experienced curry eaters and so was a little sceptical. We were wrong. I love dansak dishes and so I had the tandoori duck dansak. The dansak curry was the best dansak I had had. My wife had chicken merilan with melons, which was creative, beautifully tasty and well presented. Even the mushroom rice and onion bhajis were of top notch quality. Just wished the Taste of India was closer to our home.
