The Lime Leaf in Basingstoke and Deane

Where do I start? All the food I ate was excellent! I started with The Sai Oua (Thai sausage with Thai salad & dressing - superb!), then had chicken Prik Prow (stir fry with chilli & basil) / egg rice & sweetcorn cakes for main course. The food was one of the best Thai meals I've had in the UK. The big problem was the awful service! When staff eventually got round to me they were friendly and knowledgeable, but it took forever! A group of 3 ladies sat near me commented the same! I could see the kitchen from where I was -and most of the food leaving was in plastic containers - i.e. it was for Deliveroo etc.!! When those of us in the restaurant (who pay more) have bothered to go in, why should we be kept waiting for takeaways? From the time my starter plate was collected to when my main course was sreved it was 22 minutes before I chased, and then another 10 before I got it!! I did ask for another beer as I was also thirsty waiting - I kind of hoped it would be complementary, but no... In summary - if you enjoy great Thai food and have a LOT of time, please go here - but if you're in a hurry then don't!!

Tasty food. Had one of the stir-fry's with tofu and it was very odd. When I cut into it, the cube was hollow. What kind of tofu is that. Service was fine. They didn't have one of the red wines on the list or the cider. Disappointing experience and I won't be returning

One of the best Thai food restaurants in UK. Closest to authentic Thai taste. Friendly customer service. Highly recommended if you’re in the area of Basingstoke.

Love this place. Quality food and service, portion sizes were really good for the appetizers and they mentioned that the chicken and lamb were halal! What a huge surprise!! Absolutely will be coming back here regularly.

Very disappointed in our lunch time visit yesterday. The restaurant was very cold, the food mediocre & the service very slow. My main complaint was being charged £3.95 for half a pint of sodawater & lime. The Gents downstairs toilet was disgusting, mould everywhere. Won't be back.

Not the merriest or most attentive service and the restaurant is a bit tired but don't let that put you off as the food is great and good value.

Amazing friendly staff not rushed on courses food was simply fabulous ! Maybe a bit of focus on the decor with peeling off wallpaper but all in all a stunning night there and will be back

Service was excellent and food was some of the best I’ve ever eaten! I got the holy basil stir fry with tofu and it was superb. Really cute spot with cozy dining area with lovely staff.

Dropped in yesterday for a snack and ordered the prawns and pork with crispy seaweed. Very nice, and friendly service. Also had the mixed ice cream (coconut, ginger, chocolate) plus the Thai coffee, which I enjoyed also...

I'm not normally a fan of Thai food, however, whenever I'm in Basingstoke for work, I always end up here! Reasonably priced, fantastic flavour and good sized portions. Excellent!

Great spot, not too expensive and decent Thai food. Easy bosh and decent option in Basingstoke. The chicken wings on the starter platter was very nice, so was the duck.

Really great food and service. Requested via booking to sit downstairs and didn't even have to mention when we arrived. As always, beautiful food (and really generous portions), awesome drinks and great service. All 3 of us were as jealous as eachother of one another's meals - absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavour.

We ordered a set menu for two priced at approx. £25/head. Drinks are expensive (£7.50 for a Singha beer & over £9 for a glass of white wine - Pinot Grigio). The starters were very greasy and the mains were OK but smothered in chillis, which is OK of you like a lot of heat. No waterbowls are provided and paper napkins are wholly inappropriate given the amount of oil on the starters. For the prices they charge, proper cloth napkins should be the norm. A 10% service charge automatically added at the end of the meal makes it very embarassing to ask to remove it. There are far better places to eat in the locality offering better value. We won't be going back and will not be recommending the Lime Leaf to friends.

Great tasting food, but took a long while to arrive. The radiators were pumping out heat which they couldn't turn down because I think the knob was broken, and the window being opened subsequently meant that there was a lot of sound from outside. Additionally, the Kor Moo Yang I had, was tasty, but not enough to justify the price at all. (See my photos I've posted on the main page)

We were very impressed with the customer service we received. About 30 minutes went by after ordering (we weren’t counting, we were just chatting away) an employee noticed we hadn’t received our starter sharing platter as yet, we weren’t too bothered but the next moment he came over with some prawn crackers and sweet chilli sauce and apologised profusely for the timing of the food. It was lovely to have such attentive staff. We had a set menu meal and it was out of this world. So tasty and flavoursome. We were pleasantly surprised with the portion sizes too. We would recommend the Lime leaf and look forward to taking our friends and family next time too.

One of the best Thai restaurants around. Can recommend the pad Thai and the massaman curry. Have dined in and ordered take away meals from here

The food here is delicious! Eaten in and had a take away several times and the food never fails to disappoint - full of flavour and a large menu to choose from. The restaurant itself is very quirky and rustic, but I like it and the staff are all lovely. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Five stars based on food and affordability. Always good service, and the food is first class, considering the cost. This is not the Ritz, but certainly one of my favourite restaurants in Basingstoke.

Really enjoyable food, generous portions and reasonably priced. Always popular, with patrons and delivery drivers queuing even on a Monday/Tuesday night. That said, the service does suffer because of this, with the staff appearing always rushed off their feet and the service quite perfunctory. Last visit we were forgotten about for desserts and eventually just gave up and left after paying at the counter. The decor is a bit tired, and the interior is quite small and echoy, meaning it gets overly loud even with just a few people talking. Recommend for the food, and do love the place, but has its opportunities for improvement.

Was very busy. However, the food was excellent and lots of it. I have been here many times before and it just keeps living up to standard- would highly recommend it. I think it’s one of the best Thai restaurants that I’ve ever been to.

Disappointed. Portion sizes have reduced (rice & noodles) in particular which effectively doubles your cost. Paid 16.00 for 2 mixed starters and you get such a small portion. Paid 74.00 overall. I collected and they used to offer a discount on collection. Not now, only if you pay cash (bet that's not going through the books!). Don't think I'll be going back.

cancelled our reservation with no explanation the day before my dads birthday dinner. he's been wanting to try this place for ages and this was such a disappointment. really frustrating as we booked this in advance expecting a lovely special dinner - and without any reason! now it says online that the restaurant is closed on sundays but if thats the case why even have the option to book for that day?

I recently went there for my birthday which is close to Christmas. We had a table of 13 from kids up to oldiwonks and everyone loved it. The food was beautiful and the service great. Have been here many times with smaller parties - always great!

Food was okay but it’s not great having a table by the toilets ! I think they need to review their sitting plan !

I try not to be negative on Trip Advisor but felt compelled on this occasion. On Friday 10 November, we had a table booked for 6pm at The Lime Leaf in Basingstoke, for a pre-show meal (Legend - The Music of Bob Marley, go if you ever get the opportunity, he's brilliant!). We walked in the door, which is right by the bar. There was a table of about 10 Thais (presumably family) to the right, and a girl behind the bar (about six feet from us). She didn't acknowledge us, and we stood there in the entrance for over five minutes without being spoken to once. In fact the girl walked right past us on several occasions, it was as though we were invisible. Eventually we left and went to eat somewhere else. Terrible.

Beautiful, reasonably priced food and the serving staff were so friendly and polite

The place needs some asthetic attention but the food is superb. Had a green curry and it was made very authentically, spicy and tasty. Will go back often.

Love this place for take away and dinning in. Great vegan options. We had a new tofu dish, the sweetcorn cakes, green tofu curry and coconut rice. They also made the banana fritters vegan swapping ice cream for coconut milk. Tasty.

Haven't been in here since lock down. It would appear the kitchen is so busy with takeaway that the people eating in almost get forgotten. Although seated quickly we weren't able to order for 20 mins. The starter arrived and had to ask again about drinks. Mains didn't follow for 40 mins. The food quality is really good the decor could do with a refresh, shame about the service...

Amazing Tie food and great service Excellent value for money if you go for one of the set options

Hoping to have a nice meal out, and with 1 minute soon as drinks arrived asked for you want to order food, already too quick. We were put upstairs tiny room packed with other people who were so dam noisy they seam to shout talk. Rather than across the table you could not hear your own conversations, nearly a hour for mains to arrive having to listen to them idiots across the room. The duck I ordered mostly Fat. My other friend enjoyed her food tho. Not a good experience all round for me.

A genuinely lovely place to eat, great food and great service too. Only downside is the trek upstairs, so might not be ideal for those with mobility challenges

First arrived the restaurant was busy but the server says we could sit out side, I wish she would have said we’re full but ended up waiting a long time to get our starter, then waited another 30 minutes before the first mains turned up but then my partner had to wait another 5- 10 minutes to get hers, My dinner did not taste very nice the chicken tasted like it was frozen and heated up with no seasoning. The starters were not very nice and slightly cold . During our long wait we noticed a consistent supply of deliveroo cyclist turning up for online orders, I understand this might of helped a restaurant survive during covid but those times are gone and now the wait times have shot up because of this. Waste of money the quality has suffered compared to how it used to be run, what a shame the place used to be amazing

I stopped by on my way past during a very long car journey, was offered to sit outside almost immediately and the menu came quickly. I ordered a tofu green Thai curry made Thai hot, steamed rice and the sweetcorn fritters. It was one of the best Thai curries I've had and it actually had a good amount of chillies and heat, the lovely Thai waitress joked about how she herself can't handle the heat and we briefly chatted about when we had both last been to Thailand. Portions were generous and it was absolutely delicious and tasted very authentic. Amazing place.

Very poor service virtually forgotten about for a long time. Nearly full main finished waiting for more cutlery. Prawn crackers burnt though not charged for. Spring rolls were fine. Thai beer was good.

A fantastic place for Thai food and swift, considerate service!

Very good thai restaurant in Basingstoke town centre we do go there once every couple of months. Very reasonable prices compared to Thai terrace in Guildford or the likes in Henley. Their Tom yam soup is my all time favourite.

There are some lovely dishes available at this well established restaurant at the top of town in Basingstoke. Service is charming and the food is well cooked. Good for vegetarians.

I have been in this restaurant a 1,000 times but after going in there for the first time on a Saturday night on my own it standed out the most!! The food... as always it made me sweat but in a good way!! In comparison to the way a drug works, it makes you feel good in a way no-one can describe! My servant Tom made sure that I was happy after ever interaction and the respect and appreciation was top notch! It's funny to say I will be back again but that would only make it be my 1,001 visit 😂 best Thai ever and not even just in Basingstoke!!! Big shout out Tom 💪

Quirky layout with lots of individual rooms, which if you have noisy people nearby, can be a little annoying. However, makes up for it with absolutely superb Thai food

We visited based on personal recommendation and were not disappointed! Wow … the food was AMAZING! The best food I have eaten in a very long time… so fresh and tasty. We had a set menu and every dish was exquisite… a real treat for the tastebuds … the crispy duck salad was probably my favourite due to its intensely refreshing flavours of the salad against the heat and crispness of the duck… we will definitely be back!

WOW. My wife and I came here for dinner. I had the surf and turf .. Spicy but absolutely delicious and well worth the money.

Lovely place and food just small portions for what u pay

The food was delicious but sadly the service was really slow. We booked 1.5 hours before we were due to be somewhere and we had to end up getting our mains to takeaway as it took so long to arrive. A table sat after us were served first, they ate and left before we even got our mains. Our drinks came about 20 mins after we were sat. We had a really simple starter each, but our mains took about 45 mins to arrive after that so I think our order must have gotten lost. The atmosphere was a bit chaotic despite there being plenty of staff and it wasn't that busy. Would recommend and would likely go back, but was a disappointing first experience. Glad that basingtoke has an independent restaurant though and love Thai food! We had pad Thai and pineapple beef rice, really tasty. Chicken satay starter was really good too.

Went to the Lime Leaf Friday evening for the first time, been wanting to go for a while now. I wasn't disappointed the food was absolutely amazing the service was second to none and the prices are very reasonable too, will definitely be going again a massive 5 stars brilliant.

Came here on a couples night out. Initially we were a it apprehensive due to the business . However when the food came , it was the BEST Thai food I've had ...ever. if its all about the food then this is the place to go. Would highly recommend . We will definitely be back.

Friendly staff, good food and a nice location where you can converse and enjoy your meal, I like that the rooms are smallish and keep things more intimate.

Small and cosy restaurant in the middle of the town centre with extraordinary food and great staff, who were even advising you on ideas according to your preferences. As we finished late the guy from the staff was very kind and even showed and explained to us the way back to the hotel using the safes areas for two girls.

Went here for a birthday meal with the other half, the food was absolutely fantastic. The Pad Tai and green curry (mega hot fyi) and the salt and pepper prawn/squid starter especially!! The service was a little slow but I think that's because there was a few larger tables. Great value for money would highly recommend for an authentic meal!

Perfect evening, we attended as a group of 16 for a work meal and they were fantastic! We had our own room upstairs and couldn't of done more for us and the food was fantastic! We'll definitely be back! :)
