Brilliant food, drinks and service plus half price pizza and cocktails on a Thursday!

We had a fantastic celebration at the bar a couple of weeks ago. Kevin and Fran went up and above to make our day as special as possible. Nothing was too much trouble and it was a pleasure booking with them. The venue itself is so unique and beautiful. We had a large lunch accommodated during the day with an amazing roast followed by a private party in the evening with a buffet. The food was fantastic and so many compliments came from our guests. So fairly priced and the quality was so impressive. Would always look to book with them in the future and would recommend them to anyone! Thank you to them and the staff it was a wonderful day ❤️

I expected much more. An excessively expensive place, I was going to eat with a friend, but most of the food is frozen food. We just drank two beers and left. We paid £18 for two draft beers. This is going to be my last time in this place

Once again a wonderful Sunday lunch was delivered to my parents by Kevin. Such fantastic food, there was so much and enjoyed with every fork full. THANK YOU. Highly recommended what a fabulous service with exceptional food.

Me and my friend attended the Wham Brunch and what a brunch it was 🥳 My glass was never empty, and the constant flow of cocktails and prosecco is how a brunch should be. Pizza was DELICIOUS and loved that they came out in pizza boxes so you can cover and save it for later if you wanted. The music was also fantastic and I loved the fact you can ask the DJ for requests and they actually play them unlike other brunches. The staff are absolutely LOVELY!!! Always topping up our drinks with a smile and want to ensure you are having the best time! 100% will be returning for another brunch 🥰

We had a large private family birthday meal for 40 people the staff was very accommodating with everyone’s needs and also very friendly, food was lovely and hot and full of flavours, pudding was amazing aswell we’d highly recommend for anyone wanting a private function that you won’t be disappointed

GREAT PLACE , LOVELY BAR , PERFECT LOCATION. We had a private party there and it was fantastic, nice food and drinks. Definitely will come back .

No ales, but they did have some Hoffmeister Weisse Beers on, which went down well. Was there for a jazz band, so the atmosphere was pretty cool.

Bought my mum along for some lunch, she is in a wheelchair and was very good to see there was easy access ramp available and once in the door lots of space to get her around, we ordered lunch, very relaxed atmosphere despite being busy, I had the best jacket potato ever and my mum really enjoyed her Chicken, Bacon and Mayo sandwich!! Couldn't stop raving about it! Christmas decs are amazing too!

We held my Husband’s 30th here last night, hiring Gabardine out. A gorgeous venue, amazing staff!!, great drinks and we also ordered sausage baps which were really tasty and great quality. We had an amazing time with the sound system and the disco ball! If you’re looking to hire Gabardine for a party we would fully recommend!

I came yesterday for the Abba bottomless prosecco and pizza/cocktails for 2 hours. Very slow start waited 20 mins for drinks. Pizzas were ok but looked anemic and it looked like 2 pizza ovens! There were no serviettes . The staff were very lovely but this event definitely was not well planned out and they were struggling to get drinks to people serving them by the glass and not by the bottle. Saying that we did have a dance and enjoy the music I don't think I would return to one of these as I have been to better. I just hope they re look at how they serve people in a timely manner and some more staff .

Perfect........just Perfect gabardine bar was for my wedding the location is just right if you're getting married in Basingstoke registry office ,100 yards down the road loads of parking near by The host's at the bar are fantastic and friendly you couldn't ask for better people to look after you and your Guests ,they will set the mood at the bar for whatever occasion you want or need being a wedding venue or a birthday celebration Food off all types are available just say what you want, we just had a buffet which was magic, lots of home made delights Beer's and wines were plentiful with champagne 🍾 popping too So pleased that they help make my wedding day unforgettable ❤ Thanks Kevin and Francis, perfect

We’d booked a table for a Sunday lunchtime slot. When booking on the phone, I did get the impression the person I spoke to wasn’t noting down the details, and so it wasn’t a surprise to find when we arrived on the day, Gaberdines didn’t have our booking. They were seriously understaffed with a polite but frantic lady run off her feet trying to tend to orders. It took a fair while to find out that our booking wasn’t registered, but she did find us a table. Half our party were running late but whilst we waited we just didn’t get the feeling it would be worth staying, the short staffed factor didn’t fill us with confidence and we felt the up market and glossy website didn’t match the ambience of the reality, which was more a noisy canteen / cafe. So sadly we made our excuses and left.

Ordered at midday for a 2pm collection. Arrived to collect at 2pm, staff were friendly and accommodating. The guys even advised warming it in the microwave (that's what you call customer service), but we didn't need to as it was still hot by the time we got home. We had the roast beef and it hit the spot. 3 very happy customers. Will definitely be using /visiting again!

Dropped by mid-week and got to try their sourdough pizza with goat’s cheese and caramelised onions. Bellissima! As was the service and banter. Their programme of events looks good and have got some dates earmarked. See you again soon !

I came here as it was dog friendly and it did not disappoint. Not only did my two Labradors enjoy a puppacino but they had a good DJ on (Daytime on a Sunday)! I didn't stay for food today but had a really lovely pot of tea and my daughter had a frappacino which was equally delicious.

Friday catch up with my daughter and Granddaughter over a fish finger sandwich and lemon drizzle cake. Served by a helpful Laura who gave us free drinks after a hiccup on a previous visit cake was included to thank you. Sat outside in a lovely breeze my Granddaughter loved the umberellas above her head. Great service a lovely cafe/bar

Had a nice Greek Meze and Haloumi Fries. Very quiet for a Friday which suited me. Staff were lovely and my daughter loved chatting with them.

Popped in after Elai on a Friday night. First visited a few years ago and thought it was fine, but thought it was pretty great other night. Great staff, super friendly which is so rare to find nowadays - reasonably priced drinks, nice decor - this place needs to be supported and busier than it is.

Great place for cozy drinks or nibbles. My mate Nick is always in there!!

Brilliant venue with changing entertainment.

The outside decor as well as the inside is very inviting. Love the green plant wall. The menu looks great and so is the drinks menu. When I went with a friend, it was really quiet (only 1 table on bank holiday monday). We ordered 2 burgers and was disappointed. Small, cheap frozen dry meat patty and cheap salsa. The cheddar cheese was still cold and hard (so was the meat) and really small amount of fries (I do better burgers at home). Paid £46 for 2 burgers and a bottle of wine. Will I return? I would rather go to 5 guys for a burger but I might come back for a sandwich or breakfast though. 3 stars for the decor and staff.

We went to the bar for drinks after a family meal out in town and had a fantastic evening. Was a great atmosphere and the bar staff couldn’t be friendlier. The cocktails were great as was the Hofmeister beer on draft! Highly recommended – big thanks to the team there, will be back very soon.

Very disappointing visit, childsize portions which were luke warm at best, flat coke, chaotic service. Generally not particularly clean. A real shame, we went to an independent place rather than a chain to support local business & expected better.

We met with friends and spent three hours here eating good food, served by really friendly staff, and the Tiramsu was out of this world. The best we’ve ever eaten. They never rushed us and had time to have friendly conversations, and we had the food on the table very quickly after ordering it! Thank you!

Came here with friends (8 of us), but were told that a large table was already reserved. This meant that we had to gather round a much smaller table. We looked on as the larger table (which was reserved for the owner), remained empty for well over an hour. It would be nice if there were more tables for larger sized groups, and if reservations had a time slot on them, rather than being held open for over an hour.

Had the charcuterie board for two people. It was amazing fresh grapes peppers and celery. Plentiful amount of crackers cold meats and a array of cheeses. Will definitely have this again

Visited by chance on Friday 17th March. Turned out to be a fun evening. The staff were very friendly, the service was good and we really enjoyed all three of the Tapas that we ordered along with a few drinks. The place had a nice casual atmosphere augmented by a singer/guitarist.

We had a very bad experience here myself and my sister took our parents out for lunch, when we arrived no v dirty table we was placed and we actually stuck to it as it was so dirty the cutlery was dirty no one came to take our orders until we asked, we put our food order in and well it came out in dribs and drabs, when it arrived we had to send half of it back as it was not well cooked and not edible, the wine list was very limited as they did not have half off what was on thier wine menu, so over all it was very disappointing indeed we will definitely not be returning, even paying a large bill

Just been here for breakfast and oh wow, stunning breakfast, lovely atmosphere, easy listening background music. Service really good. Nice friendly people. Definitely be back again as now our favourite destination.

Poor service and poor coffee. Went in for the first time for a coffee - the picture says it all, but the flat white I ordered was simply a white coffee. Service was also slow with others who ordered after us getting their drinks first. A waste of £7. We left and went to Willows.

Organised a Christmas drinks event for a client in December 2022 and hired the venue for about 70 people. Fran was really good helping us organise the event. The whole team on the night were excellent - helpful and responsive - and the evening flowed well. Food was also very popular. Really pleased we chose Gabardine Bar.

Very expensive for what they serve. Coffee was tasteless/cheap it had no body or creama. Won't be going back as that was second time we have tried them.

Wow, this is a fantastic place, top quality food, fast efficient service all set in a quirky but attractive environment. Beer on draft, Jukebox and live music in a comfortable environment. I am going to become a regular.

Average at best food & overpriced for what you get. We had, as the menu calls it a traditional Greek meze with Greek bread & we had a bottle of alcohol free sparkling wine & were charged £45! When we queried the bill we were told it’s because it’s a high end place! Really?! The meze had basic pita bread & Tesco looking breadsticks, olives with pimento that look like the cheap ones in a jar from Tesco (had better in the Waitrose wine bar) We were given no plates or serviettes & that cost £16 which means the alcohol free wine was £29 (which wasn’t chilled & was off the shelf) even though the bar staff said it was £25 when we queried it. I’m happy to pay for quality food & even paying for alcohol free drinks as I appreciate they’re not soft drinks, but that’s ridiculous! And if you’re going to market the place as high end & charge London prices, the quality has to be spot on! Very disappointing because I really like the place & it has so much potential but I won’t be going back, I’ve made allowances in the past for the average food to give them the benefit of the doubt but this has tipped it over the edge for me. And to use the excuse that it’s a high end place is a little insulting, I’ve been to a number of so called high end places & unfortunately this wasn’t one of them. Maybe I’m not the right market being a non drinker, I don’t have the alcohol to blur the edges

Shocking all round, food over priced and unimpressive

Update. They've changed the layout quite a bit which has helped. Also changed the choice and volume of the music. Also a good thing. Unfortunately, trying to be "trendy" have a hideous concrete bar that's not remotely smooth or sanitary, that you really don't want to lean on unless you're wearing overalls. The tables are "knocked up" out of scaffold boards and are uneven with gaps for drips to end up in your lap and the cosy area smells of feet. Good effort, but I still don't like it much. Went in for a drink in the early evening to see what it was like. Table was sticky (and wobbly) and had to ask for it to be wiped down. Nice living wall, but other than that the decor is a little confused. Music choice was odd too. Very bass heavy and didn't really fit with the atmosphere and clientele. Drinks arrived and margarita had sugar on the rim. They were just "following a recipe", they obviously don't have anyone who knows cocktails at the moment. Sent back and the one I got back was much better and I got an apology and money off. I was hoping for new "grown up" venue in town, but maybe not.

This bar is a jewel in Basingstoke. Different areas to eat, relax, read or chat and great events week in and out. Food is great, owners are very nice people. Staff seem to be a bit young and clueless, but they are nice and trying their best. Love this place.
