The Lighthouse Cafe in Waveney

Visited 4 times during my week in Lowestoft and was delicious, fast service everyday even though it’s constantly busy and a fantastic price to match. All the staff were brilliant with orders and service too I must add! Best cafe food I’ve ever had!

The good here is wonderful. You always know what you’re going to get. No fancy bits, no frills. Just honest to goodness local produce ( as far as possible), well cooked and simply served.

I had a great Big Breakfast at the Lighthouse Diner in Lowestoft in Suffolk. Very tasty, well cooked ingredients, 3 nice rashers of bacon, 2 good quality sausages...I expected cheap catering sausage - they weren't, they were really nice, mushrooms, beans, 2 fried eggs...cooked white and runny yolks, fried potatoes...hadn't had these for breakfast for over 30 years, crispy and not greasy, delicious, hash brown AND a slice of proper doorstep crusty toast for the princely sum of £9.50...I think that was great value for money

Fabulous breakfast and coffee here. Very good value for money. We had the half breakfast, a large bacon roll and four coffees for under £20. There was a queue at 1015 on a Sunday. It’s cash only. The staff are super friendly. Limited seating inside (benches outside) and some parking opposite.

Lovely, friendly and smiling staff. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful with everything cooked to perfection and the doorstep toast so soft it was like a pillow. All we need now is a blanket and a quiet corner to sleep it off. Would highly recommend and will be returning. Remember it is cash only and you will, I sure, be delighted.

We came for a late lunch, they are open until 2pm (google is wrong) Had a Half Breakfast and a Full Breakfast with additional black pudding, from the menu, with two teas, for £15.00 flat. The food was delicious, service good and friendly. During the short wait I was reading Highways and Byways of East Anglia from 1901, where they talked about the old red tiled herring drying sheds - one is directly outside the Lighthouse Diner carpark. Perfect. Highly recommended for a proper Breakfast Please note 1 slice of toast each (photo shows two) but only 1 is needed. More can be ordered of course.

OMG this is the best breakfast you will find in the town. Chunky doorstep slices of bread and all. Great atmosphere with friendly staff you won’t be disappointed! And situated in a lovely location to walk that breakfast off afterwards! Denise x

The breakfast is fantastic, proper Butchers sausages and Bacon and proper doorstep bread. You definitely won’t go hungry.

Absolutely amazing , refreshing, spacious and what a fantastic menu. Haven't Been here since renovation as was always a popular breakfast venue but now an all day food hub. Lovely gardens too for all types with dogs of just relaxing on beach location. Great value and huge dishes, cooked fresh to your order. Delicious

Another very popular cafe for breakfast with families and workers alike. Good portions cooked to order at a good price (cash only) always busy and parking can get difficult in the summer, well worth it though. Staff are excellent

Place was very busy, found a table then joined the queue to order - only to find that it was cash only. This wasn't made clear at all before entering the cafe. Unfortunately as it is 2023 we had assumed we would be able to pay on card, but I guess this place is still 30 years behind

I go to this cafe with my daughters you sometimes have a bit of a wait as food is freshly cooked well worth the wait reasonably priced

This cafe is a real gem. Food was tasty, arrived quickly and very reasonably priced. The whole cafe looked clean including the toilets. Happy to recommend.

This is a proper cafe. They do all manor of fried breakfast combo’s, rolls and hot and cold drinks The place is clean, no filthy cheap sauce bottles here! The friendly young waitresses look the part and are all efficient and smiley. The food is great and prices are reasonable. No, they don’t take cards, stop moaning and go tap your card in a mundane, faceless eaterie elsewhere!

This is a great cafe! I was amazed how low the prices are here but the food is gorgeous, they use Baker's bread and the spread they used on the toast was delicious and the bread is also delicious . It is located next to the seafront but it is easy to get to and there is loads of parking!

Excellent for breakfast or brunch Car parking at the back. Fried eggs are done so well they are like poached eggs in olive oil. The bread looks and tastes home made. Sea view from window tables.

They used spread on toast not real butter. Spoilt my breakfast didn't eat the toast. Shame as its uncut bread. Good sausages.

Standard breakfast, they really need to keep up with the times and offer contactless payment as its only cash. Also no variation on eggs. Fried only. However bread was good.

Come here twice within a few days. On both occasions food was quick. Food sizes are good. Bread / toast is great. Shame they do not do poached eggs

My wife and I were recommended to the Lighthouse by family members. The breakfast was very good but I did not like the coffee. It had no taste. A very clean cafe and well supported by local workmen and families. A good reasonably priced breakfast.

Food is great one of my fave breakfast places. Only thing I would change is that they only accept cash which is pretty ridiculous in these times. With covid and no one really ever carrying cash anymore.

Went to lighthouse for a brunch, unfortunately due to them only accepting cash (yes cash only in these covid climate times) I never managed to eat a meal, will never go back here again as i was also made to feel awkward trying to pay...

Really enjoyed a brunch here. Even though it was cold and breezy - just inside the garden was lovely,warm as is quiet sheltered.I had a 1/2 brecky and hubby had scrambled egg on toast. Both were delicious and amazing value. The bread for the toast was proper crusty bread - DELICIOUS Highly recommend and will be back again one day hopefully Also dogs welcome in garden (not sure re inside are covid have to be outside at mo anyway!)

The cafe was busy, long queue to order.I went for the full English fry up, my friends went for the midi ones, there was a lot of inconsistency between their eggs, some overcooked some normal.Other than that, breakfast was good, fairly quick to come once served.

Ventured in on a wet Tuesday and not disappointed. But I’m not saying we’d ever go back again either? It’s a strange one? We had always been intrigued by the building, location and reviews but had never been there at the right time to try. It’s certainly Covid secure even though the tables are still pretty close together? A little uncomfortable if you were in a 4? We were also sat behind the front door which was NOT an entry point (unlocked as a fire exit we assumed) and twice we had people trying to crash in from the street!! That was interesting. The staff were all great. Very polite. The food was very good, full house breakfasts all cooked fresh and the toast as reported elsewhere, mega doorsteps. Coffee was pretty bland tbh hence only 4 stars. If it was pouring with rain and I was passing, I’d call again! But......?

Very pleasant coffee break, nice atmosphere and staff . Would have liked to take a lunch as it all looked so well run and as a coffee break it was very nice

Stopped off at this cafe for breakfast whilst visiting Lowestoft and have to say that it was one of the best breakfasts I had on my week away. Great value for money, generous portions and great service. Would recommend if you are visiting the area. It’s also situated near the seafront so perfect for a stop off. Cash only so make sure you have some on you.

My daughter and my self went in on the off chance to get a table after all that has happened with covid We got a table and the food was as good as always would recommend covid friendly

Been to the lighthouse on several occasions and each visit has been superb. Breakfast is amazing, freshly cooked even the smaller breakfasts are a feast, the toast is incredible doorstops! Service is excellent and the price is very good for the value. Recommend it to anyone looking for a friendly breakfast. Warning it is very very popular with workmen as well as holiday makers.

What a real gem of a cafe. The breakfasts are amazing and a child can get a hearty breakfast for £1.50!! The toast is a wedge!! Will be coming back again.

I recently went to the Lighthouse Cafe with my daughter and son. My son has autism and severe food phobia, only eating a small amount of things meaning we always have to take his food with us any time we go out.Upon arriving I popped in to the counter and spoke to a friendly, helpful lady, explaining that I was looking to order for myself and my daughter and, if we sat outside, would my son be able to eat his food that we had brought.She was incredibly accommodating saying of course he could and we didn't need to hide away outside, we were welcome to sit anywhere, which was greatly appreciated.The food arrived promptly, was nice and hot & delicious as you'd expect. As much as we enjoyed the food it was the way we were treated that was the highlight of the visit, not being made to feel unwelcome because my son needed to eat his own food, which has been the case in a lot of places (which the lighthouse were shocked about!)Excellent food, amazing service highly recommended.

A friend and I popped in here for breakfast. They have done an excellent job with their anti-Covid measures. The tables are distanced, with the inside ones having screens. There is a one way system in place to order and pay (note:cash only), and you are directed to write down your contact details for ‘track and trace’ . Food is brought to your table by the friendly staff. The breakfasts were lovely, with excellent quality sausage and bacon. The eggs were obviously very fresh and perfectly cooked for me, with the white cooked through but the yolk still runny. The toast is enormous doorsteps. All that and a mug of tea for less than £5? You’d be silly not to!

Our first time out to eat since March. Absolutely lovely food - full breakfast, £5.60 and a total bargain; such amazing quality! We felt very comfortable as tables are well spread out and a good one-way system is in operation. Hand sanitiser by the door. All very well thought through and respectful to those who might be a little nervous about eating out. Well done for a really brilliant experience from start to finish. We’ll be back very soon!

Outstanding food, fantastic menu with a great range would go again and again honestly the nicest meal I had the whole time I was in lowestoft definitely go for the breakfasts

We now know the Lighthouse Cafe as the best cafe in Lowestoft. The only problem is that a lot of other people know too. We regularly visit family in Lowestoft and unfortunately on every visit during the summer months we haven't been able to get in the Lighthouse Cafe on account of it being very busy. On our recent visit just before Christmas 2019 we were fortunate that the cafe was less busy and we were able to get a table. The usual high standard of food - whatever you have, make sure you have some toast too. Absolutely marvellous toast!

Excellent breakfasts.I visit pretty much every weekend and I very rarely have anything to complain about. I always get the same breakfast which is the Full Breakfast with extra hash browns, black pudding, bubble and squeak and scrambled eggs instead of fried. I just don’t get bored of it - everything is fresh and well cooked, the service is great and it’s usually quick to the table depending on how busy it is (and it can get extremely busy, but that says it all).The thick, doorstep toast is one of the highlights of this cafe for sure. I’d happily go there and just order a few rounds of toast, it’s delicious.

We was staying local and looked up for somewhere to have breakfast. Was close by si tried it was very nice freshly cooked local sausages which were very nice. We liked it so much went again today on our way home once again was very nice. And I think their toast needs a rating of its own its very special . Good job we dont live locally or we would be very over weight.

Went here with mates from work a couple of weeks ago for a fry up before the pub and it was perfect. I had the midi breakfast with a few extras and all was cooked exactly as i asked, came out quick and was tasty as, best fry up I've had out in ages!! Deff going back!!

Just waited 10 minutes at the counter to get served, didn’t even get acknowledged by any of the staff. The place was like a sauna, with everyone crammed in like sardines and decided it’s not worth the hassle and we walked out. Won’t be going back here again

Lovely.. Food r not swimming in fats n grease.. Just needs to polish the cuttleries.. Empty the used tea bag thingy. Beautiful memorabillas. Fast n efficient service.

Good price for full breakfast but sorely dissapointed by the quality of the sausages and mushrooms blatantly dried out on hot plate. Eggs well cooked as was bacon bread n butter very nice all in all not bad just tasteless sausage spoiled it.

Have now visited here twice in the last couple of weeks after discovering it, the food it nice, and well priced. The only thing that holds it back it the hot drinks leave a lot to be desired, but definitely be returning on the regular

We were staying in a budget chain hotel in Lowestoft. Breakfast was available at extra cost in the hotel but on account of the price and it being busy, we decided to go in search of an alternative place for breakfast. 5 minutes drive from the hotel we found the Lighthouse Cafe "on the sea front". It opens at 8am on a Sunday, we arrived shortly after that and the cafe was nicely quiet. We both ordered the 1/2 breakfast which was plenty filling for us. I did notice afterwards that I could have asked for a veggie option which I probably will have next time. As the cafe filled we noticed one guy with what we assumed was the full breakfast - we would describe it best as a tray! Coffee was great. It did fill up as we were in there, I think by 9am most tables were taken. The local police seem to use it as their takeaway - if its good enough for them, it's good enought for us! We're back down Lowestoft in two weeks time and we'll bew taking breakfast in the Lighthouse Cafe both mornings.

Great place to go for English breakfast and a mug of tea or coffee. always friendly. Easy to park a car outside.

Brilliant breakfast lovely food lovely staff very friendly service lovely atmosphere😀would highly recommend this place for everyone best breakfast by miles . The tea was lovely as well which is unusual for most cafes all the food that I saw come out looked amazing .

Definitely the best breakfast around, good quality and you won’t leave hungry, very good value for money. Would recommend this place to anyone and many cafe / bistros could learn a lot from this place.

My wife, friends from abroad and I were staying at the Travelodge in Lowestoft and needed somewhere for a traditional cooked breakfast as the options next to the hotel rated poorly. The Lighthouse Cafe has excellent reviews and having eaten there I know why. We enjoyed our freshly cooked breakfast very much, each of us had chosen a different option from the extensive menu. If you eat at The Lighthouse Cafe I don't think you will be disappointed.

Great food at sensible prices for example breakfast starts at £3.40 for bacon, 2 sausages, egg, beans with door step toast or B&B;, children’s meals £1.00 ! Food is cooked to order ,Well worth a visit in my opinion.

Whilst visiting the lighthouse cafe in Lowestoft. I ordered the midi breakfast, and specifically asked for a sunny side down egg. Once I had received the breakfast, I realised a mistake , my egg hadn’t been cooked to how I had asked. And after being asked to pay an extra 50p for a hard egg I was very disappointed.

Now I'm not big on breakfast bit this place I can handle the portions are good the food tastes good the only bad thing is probably the service it's a wee bit slow but overall a good place to eat

I’ve been going to the lighthouse cafe for many years. The character has changed since the original owner died with his singing whilst cooking and larger than life character, but the food remains good and not greasy. The huge doorstep toast or bread and butter remains.

Second visit here for breakfast while in the area. Can highly recommend the place, brilliant choice from different levels of full English to small boxes of cereal. Coffee and tea very nice also. Staff and service very pleasant. If sun out you can sit outside.

Came here with Mum and Sis for a naughty fry up and was not let down. The food is amazing quality and very tasty.

Tried the cafe for breakfast with friends this week. It offers a decent selection of cafe favourites at a very competitive price. The outside seating area is sunny and has plenty of shade too. Maybe not the place for coffee lovers unless you like your coffee quite weak....I know many people do but I did hanker for a strong coffee.

We have come to the lighthouse Cafe each year, for the past 10 years whilst visiting nearby on holiday and have never been disappointed.

Been a few times , Breckie very nice and so is the chunky toast , Price is good to . Only take CASH .

What a plateful the big breakfast is. It kept me going until later that evening. We came here with friends for an earlyish breakfast having had to get the car to the garage for an MOT. By the time we arrived there was a choice of tables and plenty of time to choose which of the breakfasts to have. We all chose different meals and when they were served they all looked excellent. Having worked our way through 2 large platefuls my wife and I agreed that the food tasted great particularly the locally produced butchers sausages. This place is a bit of a local institution and deservedly so. Service is efficient and you make your orders at the counter and help yourself to condiments and cutlery. I must remember to come here again without leaving such a big gap between visits.

The breakfast is ok/ nice bacon sausage nice toast nice. but the beans were cold mushrooms cold don’t go there much as I think it’s a bit expensive for what it is .. friendly waitress witch is always nice just better than average I would say . I think should get a cup of tea including your breakfast meal

Once again the Lighthouse Cafe served up an amazing breakfast this morning. Everything is freshly cooked and superb quality. The staff are efficient and friendly. Prices are so affordable and parking is easy. What a great start to the day!

Called in on our way back from leaving some blood at the local hospital, it was a fasting blood test so the first thing on the agenda was a hot drink, as directed, and breakfast. This was our first visit despite having been based a few hundred yards down the road for the last few years.

we come in every tuesday for breakfast, normally the service is slower than usual and we sit waiting for our food. the older lady who nornmally is working isn’t always as polite as i would expect her to be. when it arrives is good quality and tasty. we came in today and the young lady’s espically the one who took our order on the till who was short with brown hair was so polite. the young lady who bought my food out with blonde hair went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. please give these girls are thanks

Been coming for breakfasts for a couple of years after being recommended to us. A* service at all times. Food is always cooked just right. Fresh sausages locally sourced. Extras can be added onto meals. Will be back again soon

Had a lovely breakfast. The place was very busy. Always a good sign. Thick toast was delicious. Great selling point. Latte coffee was splendid. Only criticism was they only take cash. Had a long walk to find a cash point.they also had a lovely garden to sit in.

Had a breakfast for lunch, was ok nothing special, had better here a while back (a year or so ago). Better breakfasts else were for the money.

This has to be one of the best breakfasts I have had for a while, huge plate of fry up and thick chunky toast, what's not to like. The only negative is its very very busy and takes ages to get served at peak times. It is however reasonable value and worth waiting for. I would definitely go again.

We all had the half breakfast, 1 bacon, sausage, hash brown, fried egg and beans and mushrooms. Nicely cooked and tasted great all for £3.40 with toast too. Will definitely not leave it so long before coming back.

We have visited the lighthouse many times over the years and on each occasion the quality of the food has been absolutely superb! The ingredients are of the highest quality including delicious fat meaty sausages and thick cut bacon with ‘doorstop’ fresh cut crusty bread on the side ,all the food is well presented and cooked perfectly.

Best cooked breakfast in Lowestoft whether it's the traditional or the veggie version. It's always busy but you never have to wait too long to get served and it's always well worthwhile.

If your out looking for mega English breakfast look no further, this little cafe was rammed with customers and que at the door. Sometime to place order but once sat it wasn't long at all. Great price for a great breakfast.

Not the cheapest place for breakfast granted but lovely food and never had to wait too long, usually able to park nearby too which is an added bonus.

Been here a couple of times we take our two dogs for a walk along the sea wall and then call in for lunch you are allowed to sit outside with the dogs as ling as you keep them on leads. We had brunch consists of bacon sausage egg beans mushrooms food well cooked doorstep toast with butter .The surroundings are not brilliant right near birds eye factory but the meal is well worth it . It is good for family's as well Be aware they do only accept cash payments no debit credit cards .

Menu has a good selection espeically the breakfast one (only ever had breakfast's and take away rolls there).

Four of us came here for breakfast Sunday morning. Cafe was quite busy, weather was poor. Service was still quick considering the amount of people, no issues with the food. Will keep coming back

Best breakfast in Lowestoft, Seppings sausages which are awesome, proper bacon and doorstep bread. What else can you ask for.
