We stayed here February 2023 for two nights. It was our third time and love it. The rooms are well clean and comfy. The food at dinner was wonderful, in fact exceptional l. Breakfast was good and plenty of it. Handy to stay if you want to visit Tintagel, Boscastle and other places

We were staying at the adjoining Arundell Arms Hotel but chose to eat here one night. The waitress/bar person was friendly but the meals get ordered via the hotel so you get served after their service. Hence the service is very slow, about 40-45 mins for one sticky toffee pudding and cream. The mains were slightly quicker but were again slow! The waitress did give us a discount saying it wasn't usual to wait quite that long. The meals were fairly average, we wouldn't bother going back. On Saturday night they had some live music which we usually love listening to, the group did seem good but the room being quite small was far too small for a five piece band and far too loud to enjoy. We left!

We arrived for a Christmas break at the Arundell Arms hotel and had our evening meal in the Courthouse Bar. Friendly welcome for us and our black Labrador. We enjoyed a lovely chicken Caesar salad and a sumptuous Hunter’s chicken washed down with Dartmoor Brewery Jail Ale.

Upon arrival the outside courtyard area was filthy. The tables inside and out were sticky and the condiment set on our table was smeared in ketchup and butter. The interior decor was shabby and music was playing so loudly I felt I was in a disco bar. I remember there used to be a juke box and sofas which used to make it feel more cosy. The food was mediocre. White wine is charged at £6.20 for a large glass! A completely inflated price in my view given the state of the establishment. Having said all this the waiting staff were polite, efficient and very friendly. It seems to have changed for the worse since I last visited and lacks the cosy atmosphere it used to have.

We are new to the area and wanted to look for local places to eat out and found the Courthouse in Lifton. All the staff were so polite and helpful and never stopped smiling! The food was delicious! We all ate soo much and left feel absolutely stuffed! Being a dog friendly pub is a massive plus as well and the atmosphere is cosy and friendly as well.

My family and I turned up at the Courthouse just after they’d finished serving food due to our own bad organisation! However, we were met with a very warm welcome and were accommodated beautifully with six tasty meals. I think we must have looked hungry! Lovely atmosphere in the pub and we all left full and happy. We’ve now popped round to the Arundell Arms hotel for a cream tea. A wonderful Sunday afternoon and a prime example of kind and generous customer service.

We ended up at the Courthouse bar after looking through Lifton for somewhere to eat for a late lunch. It was a Sunday at 3oclock so unfortunately the kitchen was closed, luckily for us Steve overheard us asking and offered to cook food for the six of us. We had jacket potatoes, lasagne, fish and chips and a ploughmans and it was all lovely. Fantastic service, thanks Steve!

Fantastic location and the entrance/garden is welcoming. Large car park. A bit dated inside and could probably do with a toilet refurb. But this is a nice friendly village pub, full of character. Menu not too large or fussy, simple honest food. I opted for a meal that was no longer on the menu and this was not an issue. Friendly bar staff and Finn our waiter couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely return when on business in the area again.

On a drive out we visited the Lifton farm shop, as it was so busy we decided to carry on into the village and have lunch at the Arundel arms after a recommendation. We were a bit confused when driving into the car park and ended up in the courthouse bar. In hindsight we should've left as it didn't look like the place we expected but thought the bar food must be good if it's the same premises as the renowned restaurant........Oh how wrong we were, very little on the menu so plumped for the chicken curry and the vegetable curry. Absolutely disgusting, watery overcooked broccoli, hard rubbery carrots, undercooked onion, old peas and slimy mushrooms in a yellow watery concoction, boil in the bag rice and half cooked poppadoms, none of us could eat it. Warm beer, flat drinks. As we sat and started looking around the place it became clear it was filthy. As we left I needed the toilet but was too afraid to venture in as the area they were in was disgusting...... I can't believe that a hotel with such a reputation would allow another area of the business to fall so low or that any self respecting chef, or cook would be happy to serve such slop....what an absolute rubbish ending to the day......

Came here for lunch as a change to a previous meal we had had in the hotel. Menu choice is fine and our meals were good too. Zero atmosphere as there not many in. Also it was quite cold as there was rain all day. The lovely looking fire should have been lit? Staff were nice.

We visited on a Wednesday night which was quiz night. We ordered a range of dishes from the menu which contained a range of standard pub dishes. The food was ok, but we found it very oily. The atmosphere was good and staff friendly.

We stopped here by chance off the main road on Friday 5th August . The outside seats were all taken so we had to sit indoors .we chose to eat in this bar although a member of our party had looked at the other bar prior to coming inside .the lady behind the bar was very accommodating clearing and making room for us to sit together .along with the other two members of staff who were extremely busy in the kitchen . We had a selection of food with the special being a curry and pint for £8.45 The vegetable curry was scrumptious with crisp vegetables all with mango chutney and popadom . Some of us had desert . A really good meal much appreciated .just wish we oils have stayed a little longer and listened to the banter of the friendly locals and their pets

Would give 0 stars if I could. Booked for a special meal and left after 10 minutes so no idea what the food tastes like although the menu was limited with plenty of bog standard items available in any supermarket chillerUnbelievably noisy, the young lady serving (on her own) apologised as soon as we arrived. She had put us as close to the door as possible but that meant a close encounter with a giant TV screen one side and the dart board the other. Not exactly conducive to a relaxing evening. Even then and although conversation was impossible we might have stayed had the menu been better. I have eaten in the Arundel Arms for business and I assumed the Courthouse would be less formal but with a similar approach to food. I was wrong and having thought about booking the hotel for our 25 wedding anniversary later in the year I will now look elsewhere

We had dinner here when we stayed at Tinhay Mill guest house in the next village. We booked a table, as they were showing the opening match of the Rugby World Cup and we thought it might be busy - we were right! Busy as they were, the service was very prompt and the food was of a good standard. There was plenty to choose from on the menu, mainly traditional English fare, which suited us fine. A really enjoyable night.

My Wife and I, with elderly Cocker Spaniel, visited today and had a most enjoyable lunch-time stay. The service was very friendly and the menu choice was good and reasonably priced. We ordered and were served with two freshly cooked, well-presented and tasty meals. The quality was excellent and the portion size generous. Archie (our spaniel) was well received and welcomed - although his attention was mainly on our Scampi and chips!Although quiet, the surroundings were comfortable and relaxing - and I suspect a very good place for both food and drink in the village. If this way again we will definitely visit!

We happened to be passing through Lifton and stopped for a weekday lunch. The staff were friendly and welcoming and nothing seemed too much trouble. I wasn't sure whether the chicken curry might be too hot for me, so the kitchen manager offered to nip across to the hotel for a dish of yoghurt as an additional accompaniment. The curry was delicious and the yoghurt was just the job! The menu included a good range of standard pub fare (fish and chips, burgers) as well as some less standard twists (venison cottage pie with sweet potatoes). The portions were generous and our meals were tasty and good value. Glad we stopped by!

Came with family for lunch on Sunday as we were returning to Cornwall .The Bar was so warm and we were welcomed by the staff who told us that we could have small roast for our children . It was well presented and tasted just like a home roast not mass produced on lovely hot plates the children thought the yorkshires were something else . It was ideal that the vegetables were put in dishes on the side so we could choose which we liked. Although we like animals I wish that people would keep them under the table if they bring them into establishments but that is my personal opinion as I was watching the staff trying to get in and out the kitchen but some people eating on a table near to the kitchen had their dog lying beside the door and people standing near was making it difficult going in and out with food and dishes . Really enjoyed the visit and will definitely be back for more and to try the normal menu

Visited for Sunday lunch and the food was mediocre at best. Venue has good potential which was not realized when we were there. First contact was with bar attendant who was surly, unhelpful and no smile to offer us ..... this needs to be sorted out by the hotel management, as first impressions really do count with customers and for future recommendations! Sunday roast was of adequate quantity but lacked taste. Plates were greasy round the edges. More importantly, I was sitting next to the kitchen and witnessed two major breaches of food hygiene - the girl preparing the beef for serving was breaking off pieces of meat and feeding herself and the barmaid with her fingers, while still plating up. She was also preparing ice cream with a scoop and handling the ice cream balls repeatedly with her fingers. If you like the prospect of other peoples' saliva with your food, fine, but I don't! More supervision required in the kitchen by somebody who knows about food hygiene.

We were staying in the nearby cottage attached to the hotel. We came to the pub every evening for food and drinks. Good atmosphere and lovely food. Would recommend a visit if you are in the area. The pub was only 36 steps from our cottage so we were really pleased it was so good so no need to travel to eat out.

We visited here whilst in the area for a few days unfortunately we found the White Hart Inn not until our last evening and we wished we found it on our first. The staff were very welcoming and friendly we felt most welcome it kind of made our trip being here. The food was superb and we could not believe the devon prices so reasonable sort it out cornwall! Easy double the price back home half the taste. Plenty of parking, dog friendly, will leave with change. We speak often of going back

Highly recommend this traditional family run pub. The Landlady is the hardest working person I have ever met and always with a smile on her face. She made us so welcome as did the locals. Lots of locals (good sign) and excellent menu. Not too fussy - just good traditional pub food. I had the sausages & mash with onion gravy with freshly cooked vegetables. Great desserts. We stayed overnight on a Devon Coast to Coast bike ride. My room in the main building was clean, fresh sheets and a bath!!! Essential on a bike riding trip! Views from the pub are stunning when the sun is shining. There is a caravan park out the back. There is cottage accommodation as well which is basic. I encourage you to visit and support them.

First time visiting this restaurant after reading the lovely reviews. Expecting to have a lovely cooked breakfast in the restaurant to start our day only to be told restaurant not open due to no staff. Take away only Had 2 baps and 2 coffees £18 very disappointed the baps were small brioche buns. Won’t be returning..
