My partner and I visited on a Tuesday when most pubs in Margate were shut! The lady behind the bar was lovely to us and they had some good beers on tap. We really enjoyed the decor; it felt like we were in an old traditional seaside pub which is what I was searching for, worth a stop by!

We have been in The Lifeboat for previous holidays in Margate and it's a lovely place on the square in the Old Town. It serves beautifully kept German lagers and has a great selection of ciders. The landlord is very friendly and gave out free cider samplers to my wife. Can't go wrong with a pub that has a ready supply of Scampi Fires either.

Went there and by far out of the Pubs in the immediate area, this was the place which was the most friendliest: (the Bull / Wig and Pen nearby were clearly for the "Locals") more about that at the end! However at the Lifeboat, we were greeted with a friendly smile and there was a great selection of Beers, Ales and Ciders. Friendly Locals and decent conversations. Added to this, there happened to be a great Live Band, and as the Pub isn't massive, had a great view of this Band. WELL DONE to the Lifeboat! RE: The Bull / Wig and Pen (nearby so-called "Public" Houses): The Wig and Pen: we didn't get even an acknowledgement when waiting at the Bar (not busy). The Bull: we were rudely told by one of the "Patrons" that they were closed (much to the amusement of the packed Bar area) - noting this was around 8pm, and the Bar Staff stared us at blankly and said nothing! So I'd thoroughly recommend the Lifeboat (deserving of custom / business), and steer clear of the Bull / Wig and Pen!

This is a super little find with a really nice atmosphere. However toilets have not been cleaned for yonks absolutely filthy on ledges and floors. Bar staff not clearing tables of glasses just standing around talking, as was very quiet at this point, we were sat at a table with loads of empty glasses circa 8 or so eventually they were collected but table not cleaned with a cloth. Hygiene needs to improve and better training for staff who ‘just did what they had to’

Uninformative, disengaged staff. Filthy, including the bar staff’s serving style and especially the loos. I can’t recommend it. Says it’s a cider place but it’s all fruity; I wanted a range of decent cider, not cider as alcopop.

looked like a lovely little pub so went in there with some mates. went to the bar as you normally would to buy a pint, was told its table service only and that there would be a long wait. we respected that policy and patiently waited. it had been 20 mins of watching the 2 bartenders doing NOTHING behind the bar, so I walked over and politely said ‘excuse me’ to get his attention. the bartender with dreadlocks just imitated my female voice very rudely without even looking at me and after 2 mins of waiting for him to answer me he finally came over and shouted in my face just because i asked if i could just get 1 pint because i had been waiting on my table for quite some time. he said “there’s thousands of people waiting for a drink why the f** should i serve you” (there was only around 15-20 people, with nobody at the bar but me) and he got all up in my face swearing at me. i was shocked. I asked if since it was table service if he or his other colleague could please serve my table. he was mocking me and threatened his power of kicking me out of the pub against me, even though i had hardly argued? at that point i said thats fine I’ll just take myself out thanks. cos why should i be at a pub waiting for a bartender behind the bar to NOT pour out any drinks im willing to pay for? it was absurd. he also started giving me some sort of cringey rant about how he hates this job anyway and he’s quit but “still working here” which i didnt quite understand what that’s got to do with me as a customer but I think its disgusting how he is representing this nice pub in such a vile way by being destructive and “not giving a f***.” this person was not nice at all, had a stinking attitude. it wasn’t even like anyone had rubbed him up the wrong way - he was just generally a very rude, stuck up person. Will not be going here again. I hope the owner of this pub sees this review and bars him from this pub, not that he would probably even care about that anyway as he proudly hates his job so much, but it was an absolute disgrace.

Seemed like a great spot. Good range of drinks options and decent staff. Then the encounter with the conspiracy theorist anti vaxxer. Staff who had been fairly robust in enforcing mask wearing then totally switched off at some point. And then they both slipped into the gents together for 60 seconds at around 11:30. Left me feeling that Margate hasn’t up and come quite as it would like folk to think.

After a rough few months in London, a mix of post pandemic and post surgery that just culminated kn me being a delightful ball of stress - I decided to come to Margate on a day off. Freddie, Johnny, and Jed took proper care of me, and made me feel right at home. Half of me writing this is because I have an awful feeling one of my cards messed up and that I didn't pay for a drink, because the aforementioned card vanished during the morning of my day trip, but I very much promise I will make it up to the gorgeous staff of the Lifeboat upon my return. Visited yesterday as part of a group. As i’d already had a couple of drinks I decided to give the 8% cider a miss and chose a rhubarb vodka and tonic instead which was delicious. We were an eclectic group and each found a drink we liked, even a hot chocolate for one of our party, which was described as amazing. There were plenty of ciders, ales and spirits to choose from and if we hadn’t been on a pub crawl we would have stayed to sample more of what was on offer.

Monday in Margate is fairly bleak with very little open. As one of the few places open we tried the lifeboat. This is a rather quaint place with some decent beer and cider although the cider is from a polypin which is at room temperature so you have to like that. The sitting options aren’t up to much in that you either sit at a large bench table or on a tiny plastic stool or near the fire if you’re first there and can just hog it to yourself . They had live music on a Monday in a tiny space which works if you’re up for that and the barman was friendly and helpful. Ideal for a nightcap if you’ve eaten elsewhere

My wife and I had a bit mixed experience at this place. The beer (Brewdog) was excellent; my wife is a stout lover whereas I love fruity ales and both of us really enjoyed every sip. On the other hand, the food experience was not great. Although it was just 8 pm, a lot of items from the menu were sold out. Eventually we ordered crabs, for which we ended up waiting for 50 minutes. The taste was not much, but I have to admit I am not a crab expert. We did not have pies but don't really regret this as they were largely microwaved stuff. Personally I think the owners should either improve the seafood they serve or do the same concept as Brewdog pubs in e.g. London and serve patty melts etc.

My wife and I visited this place after having had an excellent experience at its sister establishment, The Chapel, in Broadstairs so had high hopes. Although I had wanted to have a beer the pumps were being cleaned so I had to settle for a coffee which was not a problem. There was a sign saying cash only so I handed over a £20 note for our tea and coffee to be told by the barman in quite rude terms that he did not have change. Ok, so between us we managed to scrape together the correct money. As it was cold my (disabled) wife sat in front of the open fire only to be more or less pushed out of the way by the barman who said he could not get passed her. We therefore moved to the communal table. The tea was ok but when the barman gave the coffee to me he spilt some in the saucer. He made no effort to clear up the spillage or give me a tissue so I went back to the table with a pool of coffee under my cup. The coffee itself was very poor - nothing like a great handcrafted coffee that we had enjoyed in The Chapel. It was not a flat white at all just a badly made watery white coffee at a premium price. We sat at the end of the communal table right next to the bar and so I heard the barman ask a lady who I took to be the manager whether he could have an alcoholic drink and he was told he could not although he did take a can from the fridge to drink. Finally I went to the mens' toilet which were disgusting and flooded. For service this place was the polar opposite to the excellent experience we had in Broadstairs at their other establishment hence the 'terrible' rating which I rarely use.

We have visited what we've been told is the 'sister' pub The Chapel in Ramsgate and found it just as good with another loverleee person behind the bar... as someone who has worked bars and managed them, I can honestly say that all staff at both pubs were a delight, and this contributes massively to return visits, service is uber important to many of us. We went here for an evening drink last Monday night. The beer is excellent, and we settled in for an evening among the locals. Amazingly, who should walk in, carrying a large, odd shaped case, but our friend the pianist from the Britannia. He accepted a drink from us, then he opened up the odd-shaped case, and took out an absolutely beautiful saxophone, which he proceeded to warm up - we sat there with our mouths open as he played. I played the sax when I was at school, but by God! nowhere near like him. He should be at Ronnie Scotts' every night. Soon, another group of musicians walked in, set up, and played, and our friend with the tenor - who I found out is called Richard (same as me) had been invited to play with them. The band, drums, 2 guitars, an electric organ thing, bass and Richard, were incredible. We got a magnificent evening of jazz - free of charge. Highlight? Richard's improvisations on a track called St. Thomas. What a player - what a band. We said goodbye to Richard and the band, and we went home with a smile on our faces. GREAT!

It used to be a little gem, with beer straight from the barrel. OMG. Even the coffee machine didn't work today. Such a crying shame.

First used the Lifeboat when we needed a glass of wine for the BYO at the L'Olivio Italian restaurant next door. The landlady was lovely. We went back another day with three dogs and sat by the gorgeous open fire. Again the staff were brilliantly friendly and helpful. Looking forward too attending one of the music evenings

This little stunner has saw dust on the floor and a fire in the inglenook. Great position across from the 16th Century market Square and you can sea the sea if you sit out side. But it's true talent lies in being an indoor pub great for rainy days and bitter beers for bitter days. Child friendly and great staff. About 15 beers on tap all well loved. Heaven!

Been going in here since it opened, then it was one of the first small new pubs to open and give us real ale drinkers what we wanted..Real ale in a cosy setting, kinda how pubs used to be. Went in yesterday after being out of drinking for a while and its had a refurb. Its only my opinion but its been ruined as its now just one big room with a big bar. The bar has metal sheet around it which is totally out of character with the rest of pub. Only 3 real ales on but the bar was totally lined with beer from one supplier (Brewdog from Aberdeen???)..this is not real ale in my opinion and its £4.70 a pint NO REALLY.Alright for Londoners that i guess the place is aiming at now but us locals that got the place off the ground with our £3 beers. Yes there were a couple on but not the choice there used to be. Success breeds greed!

Popped in here on our Sunday walk with the dog by the beach. Super quaint no frills, sawdust ( literally) pub. Really warm welcome from the landlady. Great selection of brew dog beers. Had the jet black heart, oatmeal stout, delicious. Plus a selection of ciders. Landlady brought the dog a bowl of water, and when making my sausage buttie, also cooked to dog a sausage too. Great pub, we will be back.

Where I am from in London, they don't have pubs like this. Shame. The beer is excellent, and there is a nice atmosphere. Some of the people are rather eccentric, but that only adds to the colour. I'll be back!

There were three real ales on sale. We chose a a nice hoppy IPA; Otava by G2 and Coppernob from Tonbridge brewery. Delicious and well priced. They have a huge selection of Kentish ciders. Just off the Market Place.

Cute retro pub. Good selection of ciders and ales. Cool music. A couple of tables outside. We ate the Camembert and bread, with a couple of chutneys. Nice place to sit by the window. Lovely barman who was running the place solo.

Popped in for a pint on a short break to Margate and it was a lovely place. The choice of beer and cider was amazing and they welcomed dogs, so my French bulldog olive met a lovely young Bassett hound called Gladys and had a whale of a time. We were made to feel like locals and I would highly recommend it to lovers of beer, cider, dogs and pies.

Popped in here with some real ale loving friends and it was really worth it even though I only drink wine, I had a really nice Biddenden wine I do like to try something new, and they all had electric India ale (I think that's what it was called) anyway whatever it's name it went down very well. Everyone was friendly staff and customers alike which is just how it should be. A great success

Called in mid evening a couple of days ago. Very little feeling of comfort. I felt the 'Live music' was really far too loud in a nearly empty pub. [a fact that friends had said a little time ago]. A great surprise, they do not stock basic everyday spirits, we asked for a whisky only to be offered malts. We chose to have a glass of wine instead, ok taste but a tad pricey for what it was. Bar staff left a customer waiting a long time.

Always enjoy local cider here, a good selection of wines and cheeses. Great when the weathers cold, sitting by the open fire.

Traditional pub with lots of Brewdog beers on tap. Staff really friendly and place has a welcoming, laid back vibe. Old school or new school? Both!

Fantastic little bar. Reminds me off a swanky bar in Cannock Town (London). Great local Kent ciders and ales on offer!. Will defiantly revisit in the near future!

Lovely little bar with good staff with very good knowledge. Would have got 5 stars but there were two beers off at the time, which seems to be a little niggle across the board

We stopped by for a drink not knowing that they also have live music. There were a group of session musicians jamming for the evening and it was wonderful. It is quite a small venue so it was very cozy with a few people dancing. Very nice selection of ales and ciders. Very enjoyable evening.

over the last few years i have occasionally popped into this bar. Most recently i went yesterday 29th july 2016. The refurb is superb and really opens the place up, helps with natural light and makes it generally more accessible, a really good job well done. However the prices are astronomical.A pint of "India Electric" (or very similar name) was £4.70! For a pint of draft ale that really is steep, almost on a par with Scandinavian prices. I accept cheaper options were available and i could have left, it's just a shame because i got the feeling the refurb costs have been put entirely on the customer. The staff were perfectly pleasant but unfortunately the young lady was dreadfully slow even though there were only 6 people in the bar and the young lad seemed more interesting in chatting to one customer than actually serving. That said both were very friendly and despite the price this is still by far the best place for a proper beer in Thanet

From the outside and from other reviews I had high hopes. But with all but one of the brew dog pumps out, lemonade from a larger super market bottle clearly marked up at 49. That's about as high as I can go. Not impressed.

We visited this pub after spending a day on the beach. It was a lovely pub and the lady there allowed me to try all the different types of cider (of which there were many!) I settled for the ginger flavour in the end - delicious!

This used to be our favourite wetherspoons and we was here all the time, but sadly has gone down hill in 2024. It has got very dirty, the place is just not tidied up and toilets contantly flooded with piss. It never used to be like this but most of the staff have changed and they just dont seem to care and stand around on their phones. The WiFi stopped working in April and despite me contacting wetherspoons numerous times they have unfortunately ignored it. You can connect but no internet. Collectively we have tried 11 devices all with same issue. Every other spoons I have no problem. They now only use plastic cups every day even when no events are on at dreamland. They do not wash them before use and they make your drink taste funny because you are ingesting microplastics. The street out front is littered with hundreds of these platic cups. The manager told me the council put a restriction on them using glasses and nke they have to onpy use plastic, however after noticing no other pubs in Margate do it I contacted the council, who have said they are lying, there are no special restrictions related to mandating plastic cups at any venue in Margate. They also said they will investigate the use of single use plastics as these are restricted under local licensing in Thanet. I have written to the manager of the wetherspoons direct and he refused to comment. What has annoyed me is why does he feel thr need to lie? Just tell the truth. They wont let you drink out a bottle any more or let you pour your own. They glug it into a glass and spill half of it on the side or throw throw the last drop away. How is it so hard to pour a beer? Additionally it is hard to get a full pint now. They rush so much you have 2cm of head on every pint so you never get a full pint. I have reported the short measures to wetherspoons and trading standards with photos and videos. We got lots of apologies from wetherspoons when we complained and a few free drinks but sadly they are still getting worse so we just dont come any more. Most weeks they also kick everyone out before 10pm on a Friday or Saturday because they dont want to work late.

food is very bland and not too a high standard, we waited ages for something we could have thrown in the microwave

My daughter can't have dairy or soya, I saw they had 3 vegan flavours on display so then checked with a staff member about ingredients and she was very helpful. The ice cream was really nice and it was good to have a few choices. We'll definitely go there again.

Visited today for a late breakfast and we were not disappointed. There were tables spare and we were warned of a wait for hot food, but ours came within a reasonable time. Large All-Day Breakfast of sausage/.bacon/poached eggs/beans/large mushroom/hash browns and toast with butter. Quality excellent and served with two butter portions. My wife have chocolate cake, add on a coffee and a hot chocolate and the whole thing was just over £20, excellent value for the quality served!
