It was 5* but now with the table service takeaway materials it's 4* or 3*

Amazing view with delicious food! Tried Nachos, Curly fries. Having a great place to sit inside or outside with a good view to click pictures.

Great bar, fair prices and lots of students.

Can't go wrong with bar food. The environment and the servers/bartenders were where it was at. Loved sitting in an old style pub/library for a pint, a vegan burger and a chat. The vegan nachos were very good. Cheap and cheerful too! Relaxing at its best.

This used to be a good place to get a reasonably priced, tasty meal while out doing festival shows & events. Functional, not fancy. Went last night for 1st time this year, and the food has gone downhill big time. My Crispy Chicken was so overcooked, could not eat. Chip portion was tiny and my friends burger was just ok. Worst thing is that you do not get served on plates, now food comes in a cardboad box, which is difficult to eat from, and makes food like my friends nachos soggy by the time it arrives at the table Lesson learned for us, we will have to find another place to get our festival food, thats 10-15 meals they have lost. Maybe it will improve!!! P.S. Staff and service was good, so go for drinks, just avoid the food.

It's certainly not cheap but there's plenty of choice - drinks and food. The building is interesting architecturally, and there is an outdoor area with bench seating. LGBT friendly.

Loved this place. Have you ever been to a bar/pub in an actual library? This is so cool. The staff was professional and kind, and the atmosphere was really cozy. If you have the opportunity, take a seat at the tables at the second floor: you could go up for a wooden stair and enjoy your Todd and drinks amongst book shelves. Enjoy!

Nice bar with a great student atmosphere but the service is very bad.

Went in here for some food and drinks yesterday. They had screens advertising £5 pizza Tuesdays but when I tried to order that the girl at the bar said that that wasn't deal they did anymore. Why the hell you advertising it then? Got a pizza anyway and it was pathetic for the £7/8 I paid. It was small, very bland, and very disappointing. The drinks were okay priced and not too expensive but no cocktails.

Lovely venue, staff friendly and helpful - no cocktails (no proper). A bit loud if you're not a student, so at least it isn't a library atmosphere.

This is ab awesome concept on the University of Edinburgh campus. Dirt cheap drinks and food.

Today I stood at the bar and the guy behind the bar literally looked at me and served another queue. So I join the queue and he ignores me to go serve 2 girls with their cleavage out. He finished serving them, so I figure he'll serve me. Nope, looks at me again, skips me and serves someone who literally arrived. Bad service. Sad because the nachos are alright. Fire that guy please.

I've ate here before and the food sizes are always inconsistent. 2 for 1 nachos increased their price and reduced their size depending on the day. I went one day and it was big. I went literally the next and it was small.

27/8/22 - Saturday night drinks We three Middle aged London guys were meeting up with a local friend who recommended we meet in this bar after a Fringe Show. We found it busy but not packed on the last Saturday of the Festival/Fringe at around 8. We found a table at the side by a door which was too cold so luckily I found another on the mezzanine when it became vacated. It was a very convivial atmosphere and the good quality beers were ok priced considering the venue. We spent over an hour there in a relatively quiet pub atmosphere which was good as we had lots to catch up on. My partner used to work as an archivist in a library so appreciated the ambiance (but desisted to telling everyone to shhhhhh!). We left happy around 9.10 into the melée outside... onto our next venue Frankensteins....

Always a great wee hideaway during the Fringe!

Great during the Edinburgh Festival times order food and drinks most are reasonable priced.

Be warned if you aren't a student, during term time you feel as if you have walked into a crèche. The reason behind taking away stars is that the kegs are rarely in full service so better have a second or third choice ready to order. No casks, to be expected in a place like this, and sadly - what used to be a genuinely cheap pint has now ballooned to just like everywhere else so there's not a huge reason to pop in anymore.

Great during the festival, food is decent and reasonably priced.

We only called in, between Fringe shows. The table was dirty so I politely asked a member of the staff if it could be cleaned but no one came over and they weren’t busy at the time. Our drinks were served in small plastic cups even though we were sitting in the venue. Not a good experience. Won’t be back.

Maar eenmaal geplaceerd en klaar om te bestellen, bleek veel op te zijn. Oke, kan gebeuren. Helaas hebben we vervolgens ruim een uur op ons eten gewacht, waarvan vervolgens twee gerechten niet werden opgediend. Na veel vragen, kwamen de laatste twee gerechten ook. Maar daar was ook niet over te spreken. Pizza was verre van gaar en de avocado toast was echt magertjes met een gebakken ei in plaats van gepocheerd zoals werd gezegd. Burgers waren droog, friet ongezouten en alles gewoon net niet goed. Het kost hier niet veel, maar dat is terug te zien aan de kwaliteit.

Nice location, good atmosphere, but do not order food. We had to wait over 1h for the first plates to arrive. Mostly cold. And just not good. Pizza wasnt even cooked. And it took another 20 minutes for the last plate to come in. Take a drink, enjoy the atmosphere, just do, not, order food.

We were playing mimes (guessing children's movies) when for no reason a staff person came up to tell us that he didn't find our game fun, we apologized and explained that it was just a game, but that we wouldn't do it anymore, to not bother In a matter of seconds the guard appears, and without further explanation he asks us to leave the place, in a very rude and impolite way. Without understanding much, we left the place. But very disappointed by the bad treatment (discrimination). I do not recommend it!

Cool environment and fair prices

Amazing design but... You have to use their app to order food, and the app is just a mistake, or to be more specified dramatic. Get an UX please.

For food and drink, library bar is a really good place! Truely recommend!

We were very hungry after touring Edinburgh by foot and landed in this unique Library Bar. Students have gone home for Christmas so the place was almost ours. We sat on the 2nd floor with a good view of the whole library. Ordering was via the bar and they serve them. Personnel were nice and young. We ordered different dishes including their Christmas Dinner which we really wanted to taste for reasonable student price. Food was in large portions so ok to share but Christmas Dinner was not available after all so we ended up with a tasty vegetarian aubergine dish. This was the hangout of our daughterwhile studying in the University, which we had experienced. All in all, ambiance was very good and food quite OK. Price very reasonable.

There must be Halal foods for international students. Even vegan options are not halal

A really nice student bar with amazing ambience of Teviot. You can get some standard pub food (nachos, burgers, pizzas) plus a selection of soft drinks and beers (bottle and tap). Best part is definitely the way it looks, with a balcony overlooking the bar and hundreds of books in cases on all walls. Definitely worth a visit if only for the visuals.

Stopped here while visiting Edinburgh. Drinks are reasonably priced, pool was free. Nice chilled atmosphere. Staff were friendly. Would definitely drink here again

The atmosphere is great, dimmed lights with candles at the tables, lots of students. Service was fairly quick and staff are nice enough, the one gripe I have is that the food was a bit lacklustre, my chicken was very dry and chewy and they didn’t have any vinegar for the chips. However since it was only £7 for a meal and a drink it’s really not that bad.

Drinks are reasonable and the food is too, especially with their constant deals. Staff is chatty and motivated and always very alert. The library bar is a great place for a cozy night with some good music, just don't get the stools because they are so uncomfortable.

Ordering breakfast, I requested if possible to have scrambled egg and was told no because didn't want to do it. I don't eat poached egg so had to not eat the egg altogether. Really disappointed at his attitude towards customers, To be told I'm not doing that. Also to be told by the bar staff that they are really lazy in the kitchen.

Why is the bar being kept for performers only, in the 2 hrs we were there yesterday, not a single person entered while we were stuck upstairs. I don't think anybody there realises social distancing is finished either , 90% of toilets taped up, one way systems etc etc. Not going back this year.

Nice student bar in the centre of town. Inside the Edinburgh University student union, so it is definitely mostly populated by students. Somewhat limited beer options, but the nice atmosphere makes up for it.

Ein nettes Studenten-Pub, wo man inmitten von Bücherregalen zu günstigen Preise essen oder ein Bier trinken kann. Dementsprechend jung ist auch das Publikum. Die Auswahl ist nicht überragend, beim Essen kann auch mal das eine oder andere Gericht aus sein. Alles in allem aber empfehlenswert.

Después de conocer varios lugares de Edimburgo para comer, éste fue un opción para tomar el almuerzo de forma distinta y acogedora, con una cocina buena, sin tirar cohetes pero bien y a muy buen precio. Ambiente estudiantil y confortable.
