The Legh Arms in Cheshire East

Coming home from the Lake District we dropped in on the off chance we could get a quick lunch, having forgotten it was Mother’s Day. The really lovely and helpful lady said they were fully booked but they managed to find us a table. The place was beautifully decorated with balloons and we got a Mother’s Day cracker, which was a lovely touch. My Mum ordered the leek and potato soup which she thoroughly enjoyed, especially the good amount of butter with the bread. My daughter had the vegetarian pie and said it was excellent. I had the grilled hake. I rate a place on how well they can cook fish and this was absolutely perfectly cooked through and deliciously moist, with a tasty sauce. Overall we had a superb time and we would certainly stop again.

Sorry guys. The food is really poor now. Very disappointing. We used to go regularly. Sunday lunch beef and turkey they are using packet sliced meats. Doesn't bode well when offered a steak knife for roast beef. Roast potatoes deep fried and solid. Fish is no longer cod but grey and slimy. 😞😞

Appreciate lunch can be busy but, food service didn’t look too busy and to wait 45 minutes on a lunch break isn’t ideal. If there was care, one look at the plate would ensure it would not end up on a paying customers table. A simple halloumi baguette was ordered but the halloumi was a few mozzarella sticks thrown onto a dry baguette with a very small amount of sliced pepper. A maple syrup sauce seemed to be missing making for a very dry effort missing the main ingredient

This is a clean comfortable dog friendly pub with a large garden and car parking. It has a decent menu and a good choice of drinks. We decided to stop here for some food on our way to the Lake District. The lady serving at the bar was very friendly and the place was quiet. We were there at about 1.30 pm. on a Friday afternoon. We did wait a while for our food but it was really nice. On our way home a week later we decided that we would go to the Legh again as we had been impressed with the place. Again we waited a while for our food. I had the mac and cheese served with salad and garlic bread. The garlic bread was very dry, but I would say the salad was really descent, with interesting ingredients. My husband had the fish and chips and that was good. It's in a fairly up market area but the prices were not inflated. We wish this was our local but we hail from Southampton so it's a bit far! LOL!

I said I would never set foot in this place again but as it was a spontaneous decision from friends I went along. It was no different from when I last visited last year. New management are rubbish, rude, uninterested in customers and very bad food. Will never go again and pleased my friends thought the same. Unless the brewery employ better staff this pub will go downhill rapidly.

Heard that the pub was under new management so went for a meal to try it out. Loved so much I booked for Christmas dinner and it was a lovely experience. Will be booking again for next year. Lovely staff lovely atmosphere and just all round great pub.

Brilliant friendly pub, good food, good wine. Jason, Paul and staff are working hard to rebuild this classic pub, just a pity the parents of Knutsford can't control there spoilt arrogant children and are quick to pass the blame onto others. Once again mass brawls in the streets, vehicles damaged and 3 police cars still outside. Every single night there are children fighting outside and people covered in blood. Residents are sick and tired of this and the damage being caused! The new management should hang their head in shame! This pub has become the hell hole of knutsford and the sooner its closed the better!

Came here for the first time Sunday eve for a few quiet pints with my cousins and loved it. A real British country pub, spacious and comfortable, timeless decor. I'm used to city pubs so was pleasantly surprised by how friendly and homely it was. Lovely chunky chips and a well-poured pint of Guinness. Not quite moving to Knutsford but will be visiting my cousins a lot more often.

The legh arms has always been a great little pub to go with the kids (due to the large outside area) to have drinks and food. We went last night with friends and the experience was not the best at all. Dogs were allowed to roam free and do their business all over the grass area at the back and although the owners cleared the poop up it wasn’t great viewing whilst eating our food! The wine was not a great wine and the food was a much lower standard that what we’d had before here. I had the chicken burger, the bacon was not cooked properly the chicken was hard and the brioche bun was burnt! I think this place say has gone down hill which is a shame as it used to be a great place for friends with families to meet on a Friday for tea after school.

I have been a frequent visitor to this pub for years. Such a shame that recently they have stopped allowing dogs in the carpeted area. I can understand the reasons for this as they said two dogs have recently been sick on the carpet but after letting dogs up there for years this seems a bit drastic. On my last visit I also found a young female member of staff very rude and not at all friendly, she spoke to us in a very abrupt manner and was not helpful when she told us the dish my friend had ordered was not available. Such a shame as I used to really enjoy my visits to this pub.

First time visit at lunchtime. I had the steak for just over £12.00 and it was really nice. Plenty of it and very good quality meat.

Sunday dinner.... the meat was nice but everything else with it had been kept hot for hours or suffered from reheating and the condiments collection was reminiscent of a moth eaten service station in the mid west. The worst thing was the taste of rancid fat, the smell of which was overpowering. The staff seemed uncomfortable, there was a strange atmosphere.

They did us a nice takeaway of nachos. I think they only do takeaways from 5.30 for the fish and chips but they we're very accommodating in doing us a takeaway at 1ish. In the afternoon. It was full of meat. Slight criticism was they should have guacamole, salsa, sour cream.

Tonight we decided to support our local fish and chip take away from The Leigh Arms rather than go further afield. What a mistake. The menu options for take away fish and chips were small or large. I asked in detail how big the portions were and was advised the big was really quite huge and the small really a medium. I ordered 3 smalls. Service was good and quite quick.

My family and i ate in their beer garden on Sunday and very much enjoyed it. the food was delicious and the service was super quick and friendly. They made us feel very welcome indeed. The sweet potato fries were wonderful! will deffo be back when back in Knutsford!

Once a fantastic pub when run by Matt and Zoe, below average food and service, unbelievable how a brewery would allow this to happen. If you want to spend your money on a below average service this is the place for you. What a shame

Had a lovely gathering with our little ones in the beer garden (which I didn't even know existed). It's a large lawned area set back from the road so perfect for children to run about in and plenty of space for our pushchairs/prays. Staff were really friendly, wide range of fruit ciders & gin and I had the best chips I've had in a long time!

Do not be fooled by signs or google adverts, this pub has no intention of serving fish & chips or any food no matter what signs it displays. Staff are obviously challenged to place any further displays to state no food, they’d prefer you walk in, queue then order before stating they do not serve. A complete waste of my and families time due to lazy management and staff....

Heard that Paul returned to the helm at The Legh Arms. Glad to say that the food has returned to the high standards Paul set previously. Had Sunday roast with my wife which was quite delicious and probably the best value in the area. Will most definitely be calling in again soon.

First try of an early Friday evening takeaway and very disappointed - pre cooked chips, one fish undercooked the other probably over cooked & tired with a strange consistency. Used to highly recommend Eat-in F&C; last year but this missed the previous standards. Won’t be trying it again!

Listed on the menu as the "special". Tasteless and lumpy mashed potato with an unpleasant texture. Mixed veg of savoy cabbage, peas and carrots where what carrot there was was almost raw. Sausages low on meatiness and very pallid despite being "old Spot". Watery supposedly homemade gravy. I would be embarrassed to put such a mediocre meal on my table.

Frequent this place alot during summer. Great beer garden and usually, lovely, quality food in generous portions.

Four years ago I wrote a very scathing review of the Legh Arms, it was taken over for a short while by someone that clearly knew nothing about running a pub. Now it is managed by a young and vibrant team led by Matt, and has gone from no stars (it got one as that's the least you can give) to five stars.It is a very lively spot, especially after work and early evening, and does very decent pub grub. Since the demise of the local fish & chip shop, they even offer take away fish and chips. They are excellent though, IMHO, better eaten in the Legh. One of our friends says it's the only place to go for a steak or burger in Knutsford, I'm not going to argue.There's always at least two proper bitter's on offer with an excellent pint of Wainwright my favourite tipple.On bank holiday weekends, there's always something going on, in August they run LeghFest, promoting local bands. If you are there on a sunny day, get there early, whilst the beer garden is huge, it is the busiest spot in Knutsford.The Legh is back to its best.

Having booked a table for 3 for Sunday Lunch we ventured inside to the 'newly refurbished' pub.The staff were very friendly and attentive.After reading the menus we realised it was not waiter service so ordered 3 roasts at the bar.I was surprised to see hear it had been recently redecorated and refurbished but We came here for the food and as a last minute booking. Our problem was with the food...for £9.99 we expected a roast beef lunch with perhaps veggies that were hot and more tasty....sorry Legh Arms but the peas mixed in with the leeks/cabbage ( which isn't to everyone's liking) and the carrot mash was Luke warm. The Yorkshire pud flat as a pancake and potatoes had no taste....are all these frozen? However the beef was actually not bad. We asked for gravy to warm it all up a bit. After mentioning it to the young girl we were all feeling the same and could see we had left a fair bit we decided no to any pudding and coffee.I did however find the barman very attentive but felt the whole point of telling the waitress about the food fell to deaf ears. Won't be coming back....Sorry!

The Legh is by far the best local pub in Knutsford, great beers on tap & the food is brilliant value for money & fantastic sized portions, the steaks, burgers, fish & chips are a favourite, the staff & landlords are always welcoming, summer is great on the huge beer garden which is always so busy.

Stopped by at late notice on Sunday. Friendly enough and service was ok, but overall the food was average and the price not brilliant. 4 pub dinners and a round of soft drinks was £55. Not terrible but wouldn't rush back.

Always drink here with my friends and are always greeted with a smile from a fantastic team. the lines are clean and I've never had a bad pint, the prices are good especially for the good even if you just want something to tie you over until dinner. I'd recommend the mini fish and chips it's superb, whenever your in knutsford make sure you pop in have a look you won't be disappointed.

7 of us had lunch here on friday for a colleagues birthday. The food and service was fantastic. Especially the Sausage and Mash. Everyone really enjoyed it. Planning our next trip back.

A welcoming pub that coped with our orienteering club dinner requirements following our runs very well. Welcoming, seemed well organised, they did other food, but most of us opted for the chicken curry and chips special that was laid on for our club, and this was really tasty and totally delicious, a great meal for a fiver, though admittedly not as much in quantity as I would have liked. Nevetheless very good value. And the food was clearly home made and done very well, really spicy too. Plenty of room for us all to have a meal, and organise the registration and do the scoreing of the results afterwards too. The seating was not very comfortable though.

This is an absolute gem. A warm welcome awaits you on arrival, both management and staff are friendly, accommodating and will go above and beyond in the service they offer, nothing is too much trouble. We have eaten here many times you can be sure of really honest, good quality tasty food across the whole menu and its very reasonably priced too, you can easily pay more than double elsewhere and it isn't as good, so the question is why would you? The steaks are fantastic, seasoned well and cooked to perfection and I would recommend them all day long as I would any of their food. Lovely large grassed area to the rear, beer garden and additional covered and heated outdoor seating areas with tables, large car parks to side and rear and disabled access, baby changing facilities and high chairs are available. Inside there is a wide variety of shapes and sizes of tables and chairs, from traditional dining to armchairs and sofas not a one size fits all but you're sure to find your perfect comfy fit in there. Whether you've popped in on your own, as a couple, with friends/family or for a spot of business it is flexible enough to suit all your needs. A definite and very firm favourite.

It's not often I give five stars but the steak burger here puts bigger and more established restaurants to shame. Food that was not afraid to be seasoned and taste fantastic. Well done guys, I'll be coming back again and definitely recommending you to others. The pricing is spot on, I've paid twice this price for complete bland burgers. Don't take it off the menu! Oh and your chips are amazing. Credit where credits due.

If you are dining it's not a problem but if you want to relax in a comfy chair then you'll be unlucky. The armchairs may look the part but but are impossible to relax in, unless you're on the large size.The beer is ok but sadly I won't be rushing back.

The beer garden is a huge lawned area ( used to be a bowling green ) and beautiful.

Always pop in every few weeks, decent food and not too overpriced. Tasted most of the menu, the only thing I wouldn't recommend are the barbecue skewers, everything else bang on.

The relatively new owners have made many improvements to what was a very tired pub . It now is furnished well and has a good atmosphere. The food is good and the outside is lovely. Just a good place to spend several hours with friends for a couple of drinks and sometimes a meal.

We visited the legh arms today on the recommendation of a friend. There seemed to be lots of potential for this pub to be really nice with a huge beer garden and good menu, including options for children. However we had to wait nearly an hour for food much of which was clearly microwaved when it arrived. This was way too long to wait with a toddler and baby in tow and when we asked for an explanation (we saw other groups being served before us) we weren't offered one. The food when it did arrive was poor at best and I couldn't bring myself to eat the lasagne which was gloopy, tasteless and half-cold. Plus we still had to wait for my toddler's meal after we had been served ours which im sure those of u with children will understand didnt go down well when he was really hungry already! Don't want to sound like a winge pot (!) but this was really disappointing. We won't be back.
