Just been here for breakfast with my other half and to be honest it wasn't the best experience. Booking was for 10am we arrived and was told there was no chef(athough he did arrive a few minutes later) Ordered 2 breakfasts that should of had Hollandaise sauce on them food arrived no Hollandaise so we raised this with the manager after we had finished and he did apologise blaming the chef for lack of prep.No reduction etc on the bill so we paid in full and left. Pretty poor as far as we are concerned and wont be going there again.

We didn't eat but went to have a couple of pints and a catch up. The guy behind the bar was THE most unwelcoming barman I've ever seen, not rude (just) but no conversation at all. Then it happened a group of lads and girls with an average age of about 17 came in, were drinking and screaming obscenities at each other. As you can imagine we didn't expect this at all and neither did chatty man behind the bar. He screamed back at them to stop swearing but to no avail. We were a bit stuck because there aren't many more pubs within easy walking distance, so we stayed but never again!! Nice looking pub ruined by idiots!!!!

The 3 of us really enjoyed the food. The lamb lasagne was impressively presented and had a nice rich ‘lamby’ taste. I had the ‘lobby’ which is essentially Irish Stew or Scouse. It was full of flavour and very enjoyable. My Mum’s fish and chips were plentiful and the fish crisp. The chips were homemade and very nice. However. they seemed to struggle on the basics of having enough glasses to serve the right drinks in which was a bit naff. There also never seemed to be any ice, apart from wet slivers. No good in a vodka & lemonade…which incidentally came served upon the second round with lemon cordial in because they were struggling for lemons! Finally, the landlord upon our arrival at the bar had a face like he didn’t want to be there. Not welcoming at all. He warmed up a bit as the night went on and we parted with £115 for our drinks & scran! His wife on the other side, was bubbly, effervescent and very friendly.

The food was absolutely awful I even got food poisoning the chicken was more pink than a Barbie dolls outfit it’s shocking I’m only 17 and decided to take my mum out for Mother’s Day since the new opening we wanted to see if the standards are just as high as they originally were I personally remember the owners as a child but they didn’t recognise me rob was rude and had no customer service how can you own a pub yet have no customer service and food that gave food poisoning like I said it was pinker than a bloody Barbie dolls outfit it’s disgraceful stay away and spend your money somewhere worth instead

Bit of a flop really. Went for Mother’s Day, expecting a nice meal with good atmosphere and good food. After checking out other reviews, it looked like a great place to go. First problem was that the ‘Mother’s Day menu’ was pretty boring. Nothing special that you might expect for the day. Then, after finally placing order after another long time for us to even get our menus, it took about 30-45 minutes for our starters to arrive. Starters were nice, but took a very long time to arrive compared to other places we’ve been to. Secondly, it took a total of 2 hours from us first arriving, to finally get our mains (kept an eye on the clock). Arrived about 1:10pm, got our mains at 3:07pm. Mains were mediocre. Fish had black bits on, chips were burnt, and mushy peas were sloppy. The kind of meal you’d expect at either a Weatherspoons or somewhere similar; for a lot cheaper. Not a highly rated village pub. Plus, my step-daughter’s chicken nuggets & chips were the same quality as frozen ones you can just knock up at home in the oven. Left her upset and just wanted to go home. You’d get better fish & chips from your local chippy; which is definitely better value for money. A couple of us had ordered a pudding but we just left after having only half of our mains cause we didn’t fancy waiting till the evening for finishing our visit to finish. To add to all this, it wasn’t even busy in terms of customers that came for a meal etc. So no idea why it took so long. Plus, a family who came in after us, got their food first. End of the day, it’s a huge shame because the pub is very nice and clean, and well decorated etc. Looks like a place that could do great food. But it’s clearly more a place where you just go to get drunk with your mates; that’s the main focus in my opinion. Food is just something on the side that’s there if you want something. Plus, someone was in there with a tablet on their table, watching a video on full blast. Which left us having to shout to talk to each other. All in all, definitely wouldn’t recommend the food there. But if you want to go get hammered, hope you enjoy. Receipt wasn’t even written properly. Listing items that we didn’t order in the first place. Very disappointed, and won’t be returning. My impression is that “They’ve paid for their food, doesn’t matter to me if it was s*** or not, we’ve been paid now so no longer my problem.”

I don't usually write reviews but this was the worst dining experience I have had in a VERY long time. I booked online and I also rung to confirm the booking and ask them if they had a menu to view online, they said they did but I couldn't find it anywhere. I then sent a message and email asking for a menu yet received no response. We had reasonable expectations as it seemed to get good reviews. We arrived for our reservation and 5 of us were squeezed onto a table for 4. It took ages for staff to bring us a menu and even longer to order our food. Our starters came after a long wait (they were nice enough) but our mains took nearly 2 hours. Needless to say they were not worth the wait and were terrible. Burnt chips, soggy fish, sloppy cous cous, dry meat and rock hard nuggets. Having worked in AND managed a kitchen before I honestly don't know how you can screw up such a basic menu. Do not trust a chef that can't even fry chips or a piece of fish. On an additional note, there was also two extremely rude men who sat opposite us, one with his tablet on full blast watching football the other swearing and talking loudly (this didn't seem to bother the staff) We decided to leave our meals and leave asap to get some proper food that was properly cooked and in a much nicer environment rather than listening to a bunch of chavs effing and blinding. When we reluctantly paid they even tried to charge us for a dessert we never had. I would steer clear of this place unless you want to get bladdered and don't care where you are or what you eat or are desperate for the toilet.

We arrived for our reservation at 1:15 we had to wait for ages to even get a menu and when we received it, it was very dull. If I'd have seen it before hand I wouldn't of booked a table at all. I did email the pub and sent a message to their fbk page asking for a menu but had no response. We didn't receive our starters till 30 minutes after we ordered them and our mains took nearly 2 hours. I am heavily pregnant and we also had a child with us. We eventually left at 3:30pm and left nearly all of our food as it was pretty awful. The chips were completely burnt the fish was soggy, my MIL said her food had no taste and her partner said his food was nothing special. When we enquired where our food was we got told its coming. 20mins later it eventually did. They even tried to charge us for a dessert we never had. Whilst in the dining room a pig ignorant man decided to watch football on full volume on his tablet and his friend was talking and swearing loudly. Yet it seemed perfectly acceptable to the staff. Just an absolute joke. Thank you for ruining our mothers day Lawton arms, we now ordering a takeaway for tea as we have barely eaten.

Arrived for breakfast on a Sunday morning and weren't sure at first if it was open. Went inside to a deserted pub. Chef came out, who was lovely and took order. No choice its full breakfast or nothing which was fine for us. No menu or price for it anywhere. Asked for orange juice with it but he said they don't have pure orange only J20. Bit odd but went with it. Coffee machine wasn't working properly and he did say check if its warm enough when he brought the coffee. It was cold and he was really pleasant and went to make another. Felt sorry for him as he was trying to cook our breakfast, prepare Sunday dinners and make drinks all by himself. Only us in there so he did turn the TV on for us. Eventually a man came and stood behind the bar but never spoke or acknowledged us in anyway. Sent beans back as they were cold where again the chef was very accommodating but the eggs were hard and the butter to hard to spread. Sausage had really thick skin and bacon was smoked. Cutlery given to us in Christmas serviettes in February. Just showed a lack of attention or care. Toilets had no paper in and the floors in both cubicles had big wet patches as if the toilet was leaking. Went to pay and didn't even get a goodbye from the man behind the bar. Shame as area really lacks anywhere good for breakfasts, especially on a Sunday morning but for us won't be back.

What a disappointing meal! My mum, 83, decided to treat me, my two daughters, my sister and nephew to Boxing Day lunch. My sister had checked that there would be varied menu … there wasn’t. She checked the price and was told it was £60 a head … on the board it said £30 each for three courses … not a good start. The waitresses were young and inexperienced…not their fault, but the wrong time of the year to be taking on new staff; they were simply not prepared properly, didn’t know the relevant information and couldn’t help. We just wanted a main course, and as said previously, despite having been told prior to booking that there would be a variety, there wasn’t …just a roast. So we all ordered a roast … with obvious leftovers from the day before; cold, hard roast potatoes, burnt reheated Yorkshire puddings and cold mash. My daughters and I had to get home to Cambridge so we ate lunch as we had a long drive home … so we didn’t complain. I’ve thought long and hard whether or not to write … but what good does it do to say nothing? We’d been looking forward to our meal and it wasn’t cheap! I know it was Boxing Day … but either do it right or not do it at all. We won’t be back.

Just called in with my wife on our way home today, Sunday 10th Dec. We weren't sure if the food was still being served. As we entered it was obvious there had been a change, ( all the lights were working ). We asked if the food was indeed still being served? Immediately we were presented with a warm welcome and an answer, of, yes of course I will get you two menu's. Would you like drinks while you are ordering. We sat at a table ordered our food and had our drinks brought to us. The food arrived, and we started to eat our meals, the food was the best we have had for a very long time, everything and I mean everything was cooked perfectly and the gravy was to die for. We were asked as we ate our meals " if the food was right, was anything wrong". There was nothing, nothing whatsoever wrong here! The food was plentiful, cooked and presented perfectly and the staff could not have been more helpful and courteous. Thank you All, we will call again. Alan and Linda

Went today for breakfast (usually go to Casters), had tried to book via telephone 3x yesterday but line had gone dead after a number of rings so we therefore arrived at 10am. The restaurant was empty with a few people in the bar area. I asked the server if we had needed to book and what had happened and she said she would speak tk her boss. The boss was the chef in the kitchen who shouted stating we would have to wait at least 20 minutes and I should have left a message , when I explained I didn't get that option he continued to shout that this was untrue, the phone was by the bar, he'd been on all day/night and if would have been answered. After this and bring made to feel a liar and very embarrassed in front of family and other customers we left and had a lovely breakfast elsewhere without sny wait time or booking!. With that lack of manners/customer service it is certainly one to avoid - so many other great choices in Alsager

Lots to choose on the menu but went for the steak which was stunning, vege and sauces also delicious. Cozy surroundings, sport on for those who wanted it but not loud and intrusive, there was also background music playing quietly. If the trains had been running we’d probably have been in London Birmingham or Manchester, However not a problem at all and I’d like to think the country’s wealth is being redistributed coz people are of course still spending just in other locations. Thanks all we’ll be back soon

We are local to this pub, but haven’t visited since new management took over. Every Christmas we cook our own Christmas meal, but this year we decided to give me a break from cooking and enjoy Christmas. My hubby walked over end of November to enquire about their festive menu and was told it will start from December. So at the beginning of December he rang up to book a table of 5 for the festive menu for 24th December for 1pm. A lady rang him a week or so before Christmas Eve and asked if the booking still stands to which he said yes, we’ll see you Christmas Eve at 1 pm. Christmas Eve came, we went and fetched my hubby’s elderly mother and walked over to Lawton Arms for our festive lunch. We were shown to our table, but I noticed the menus were everyday ones so I went to enquire about it at the bar, as there was just a vegetarian curry on offer for my vegetarian diabetic mother in law. My question was - do you happen to have the festive menus please? To which this man replies shouting - it’s bookings only, you haven’t booked, there’s no festive menu if you haven’t booked (or something to that effect). Taken aback, I said we have booked and I attempted to tell him the details but he carried on shouting over me. So I said, if you could just let me speak please… but he shouted “I am the manager and I am speaking now, and I’m telling you there’s nothing ready because you haven’t booked you have to book it!” I tried telling him but he was just horrible, it upset me. It dawned on me that we won’t be having our festive meal, I had nothing prepared at home. We left the pub massively disappointed, felt really cheated and let down and upset. Now, I would understand if they made a mistake and forgot about our booking or were supposed to tell us that we need to order the actual food in advance and forgot. Yes I would have been disappointed but to shout at us like we were some rats that just walked in expecting hod knows what, that was uncalled for. No apology, of course. I later messaged them and was told to “Call Ian”, which I did, but there was no answer. Luckily we have a car, so we managed to find somewhere else to eat. But we will never return to this pub and won’t recommend it to friends or neighbours while this unpleasant man is in charge. Well mister big manager, you’ve done yourself a disservice there!

I live locally but never been to this pub before. It was great that they served food all day , as most only do a lunch time slot. The pub is very welcoming with friendly staff and locals, one of who’m had a very friendly dog called Stan who greeted us at the bar. It was great that the bar area was showing the World Cup. In the dining area it was very cosy . I ordered the steak and Guinness pie, it was packed full of tender delicious steak with a puff pastry lid. The hand cut chips were so flavoursome and seasoned. I had a medley of vegetables, including sugar snap peas, carrots, tender stem broccoli, it was absolutely delicious and the best pub meal for a country mile, and I’ve travelled to many . I’ll certainly be going there again !

We used to like this pub and only a few months ago the food was lovely but sadly it seems to have gone downhill seemingly since they’ve had a new chef. He doesn’t dress like a chef, looks scruffy and unhygienic,, cooking food then walking into the bar, stroking a dog, does not look the part at all. The fish and potato wedges they served us today was greasy and undercooked (some wedges were raw) But when we told the lady behind the bar she looked angry and said “I don’t know what to say to that” strange attitude. She actually expected us to pay for it and When we quite rightly refused she threatened to get the manager onto us! Very unprofessional and rude .. we won’t be going again!

We went out for a midweek treat for our tea we ordered really early 4.15pm as we went with our toddler. We sat outside in the sun so he could enjoy the park area and we were told we could order food and they would bring it out to us well We were still waiting an hour later when my husband went to ask they apologised and said 5minutes by this point my little boy was moaning he was starving after another 15minutes he went back again the lady apologised again and said it was on its way. When we finally got our food it was clear it had been sat under the light in the kitchen a while but because my little boy was starving we had our tea. The food was nice warm not hot my husbands battered fish had gone soggy with being sat in the kitchen waiting for someone to bring it out. I had the special sandwich it was filled with grease again it contained melted cheese if had sat there a while and all the grease had oused out from the cheese. My little boys chicken nuggets were nice though he ate the lot so overall it was disappointing and we won't rush to return. They did offer us a round of drinks for how long we had waited but by this point we just wanted to eat and leave as we had our little boy with us. We understand that Everyone gets short staffed from time to time but atleast let your customers know there's a problem.

A lucky find....this quirky old style cafe at the top of an old warehouse stuffed with antiques.... Standards aren't high but pleasant enough

Stayed the night of Friday 8th November in room 6. The room, as with the bathroom, was truly disappointing, not so much tired as exhausted. Yes, the hotel is a magnificent graded one listed buliding, more than 400 years old, yet the room and its furnishings neither reflected that age or attempted to be of today. The water in the bathroom tap was too hot to touch, while the water in the bath was at best tepid. There was a remoteness and a lack of welcome to the service we received both at reception and in the restaurant. All in all, our visit was disappointing, while our visit to Nantwich was great.
